is there any way on how to root the vibrant on android 2.2?? im trying to root it to put stock android
As far as I know you don't need to root your device to flash rom, just use stock rom .tar file and flash it with Odin; works for me while changing from stock 2.1 to stock 2.2.
And if you want to root your Vibrant anyway, use One Click Root.
That would definitely be the easiest way is to odin back to 2.1, and then root using one click root/unroot program. That's what I done. Took all the guess work out of it all, and I'm currently running Bionix 1.2......sooooooo much better than stock 2.2
is there a video on how to use odin??
MIght want to start here.
http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...ome&ie=UTF-8&q=how+to+flash+vibrant+with+odin
i did this, but im not sure if they are showing how to flash it back to 2.1 or not

Click on Superuser in my signature and download it. Put it as update.zip on your internal SD card and boot into recovery. Hit reinstall packages, let it cycle through and hit is again. Reboot and check for Superuser.apk in your app drawer. Go to market and update it. Might have to user the update fixer too.
See the Noob Guide stickied in the Q&A section for more info.

You can't root 2.2 on Vibrant by using the normal update.zip method. I forget exactly why, but it has something to do with Samsung changing the recovery verision from 2e to 3e or something like that.
A lot of the new people in the Vibrant forum don't know everything the original vibrant owners did, and a lot of the original Vibrant owners are no longer in this forum. Moved on to new phones.
Anyway, if you want to root 2.2 you can just make life easy and go into the dev section and find "rooted deodexed stock 2.2 kb5." Install that if you want a stock rooted 2.2.
However, to go back to 2.1 eclair, you don't need to be rooted. Just use odin to go back to 2.1. Just make sure if you have voodoo installed that you disable it first.
odin is easy and safe to use, as long as you put the pit file in the pit section, the tar file in the tar section, and you don't mess with anything else that is unnecessary.

I rooted on a 2.2 but now that I think of it, my ROM was from Cincinnati Bell and not T-Mobile.
Superoneclick has never worked for me on any phone but has worked for many others. YMMV Best bet though is to get the ROM Samsungvibrant mentioned above and use that, or flash any number of other ROMs out there.
t959uvkb5 froyo 2.2 rooted sucessfully
in November 2011 i updated my t959 via kies and it was update to uvkb5 . since then i look for some how to root this. i read somewhere on net superoneclick 1.9.1 will root froyo 2.2. so i download it.
after 3 tries with superoneclick 1.9.1 . it will ask you for something is your software 2.0 or higher . click yes. it is done sucessfully on 3/11/12.

True. Unless you don't do your research, you can brick your phone. And even if you do, you can still unbrick. I did this every once in a while for fun (I know, bad idea, but I wanted to test it).

You can't always unbrick, trust me. I've bricked a Vibrant, and a SGSII.. there are things you can do with odin that are only recovery by HARDWARE jtaging your device (because it's hard bricked).
thanks.i was searching for this.. i am using custom rom and i know that one day i will want to turn to stock rom
I wanted to root my Vibrant (SGH-T959), which was on FROYO.UVKB5 as updated via Samsung Kies.
The latest versions of Superuser wouldnt root it, but the older version Superuser 1.9.1 would (you will get an error the first time. Retry and the root will complete).
Is this going to be possible and if so are any devs looking into it at the moment.want to root but will wait rather than have to rollback first

The OP is asking for a way to root his/her TF if they're on 3.1 and is not yet rooted.
As of now I think the only way is to revert back to 3.0.1, root than flash a rooted rom such as Primordial 3.1

AFAIK this is absolutely correct. The last rootable stock rom on the TF so far is 8.2.3.9
The exploit used for gingerbreak has been patched in 8.2.3.12 forward.

there should be a stock .zip file that you can flash, just like the one you would use to update to 3.1 (if you didn't do ota update), will just put .zip on an sd card put card in slot on tf and turn tf off then back on while holding vol down till you see prompt to hit vol up to flash. hit vol uup...voila.
If anyone has a link to download the stock 8.2.3.9 please post it!! I need this as well
I would also love the stock update, realized you couldn't root when updated to 3.1 too late.

Thanks guys.. did it... rooting now... then 3.1!!!
Can we downgrade, root, and upgrade, all without losing data? I read that you have to do a full wipe when downgrading.

meh...if anyone was having trouble with the 8.2.3.9 working, don't forget to extract the Asus folder within the .zip you downloaded to the root of sd card...if that makes any sense. Stupid mistake on my part but hopefully saves some trouble on somebody else's part.
UPDATE: Ok seems that no matter what I do, I cannot get the upgrade to load. Android bot comes up and seems like it's loading then stops and android bot with yellow triangle and exclamation point comes up on screen. Anyone have any ideas?

here are the changes.. seems like there are probably a few missing asus changes..
CONFIG_TEGRA_MEDIASERVER is strange.. can't find a description.. and here I was thinking it could 'possibly' be just a ramdisk change.
thanks for the config file..

Yes, you can downgrade to 8.2.3.9 by placing it on the root of your SD card. If you plan on rooting and would like to save time, you could just downgrade now, root, and then flash to Prime's newest rom. Doing so would obviously give you 3.1, but with root.

would probably root if you're going to...downgrading isn't always that easy as I am currently finding... . So if you're going to root I would do it before you upgrade, besides there isn't a ton of difference when upgrading to 3.1 stock.

Hello, I am new to all this and i have consistently searched all over the forum for my answer. I have the acer a500 Iconia and I want to root it so i have the capabilities of tethering it. But I want to have the posiiblity of unrooting if i need to. Can anyone point me in the direction. Thanks Alot!
i'm not sure what benefits you would gain by unrooting other then the movie rental center in market, but i believe it's covered in one of the tutorials under the development section, theres a few tutorials on the first page just go take a gander and see what you find
I would want to unroot because of warranty reasons....
also i havnt found any tutorials about unrooting
Before you make any changes on your device make a backup.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121543
Use the manual method (Step 1-4). To unroot your device use the manual method again and change IF= and OF= (For example: dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p1 to dd if=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p1 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1).
P.S.: You need the adb from google and the Acer Iconia A500 driver from the acer website.

Edit: Now, I've found the detailed thread.

Sorry, you are right!
I can't help you with the sdk, cause I have no Windows. I'm a Linux user.
The only way I know to unroot a HC3.2 is an over the air update. This will overwrite your root access.
Flash an old Stock ROM e.g 3.0.1 and update it to HC3.2.

In my experience, if you have to send In for repair, it doesn't matter if you're rooted. I sent mine In for a broken power button, rooted and custom rom, and they fixed it for free. when I got it back, it was changed back to stock 3.2.

I can attest to this. Just sent mine out rooted for repair and had no issues whatsoever.
Also, you looked all over and couldn't find an answer to your question? Really? I did a simple search w/"return to stock" and got a butt load of posts.

use the modified gingerbreak in the following link (remove spaces)
http: //www. addictivetips. com/mobile/how-to-root-acer-iconia-a500-honeycomb-tablet/
and follow the steps as it says
no you wont loose your files until you dont brick your device
but you may loose your app data if you do something wrong
so dont forget to backup
I'm not sure what the modified gingerbreak is, but I had the same version and I had to downgrade to 3.0.1 and root and installed custom recovery From there

First off be aware that ginger break has malware in the file. Otherwise I had great luck with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539. Good luck
Thank you all.
One suggestion, please be careful before using the Rooted 3.2.1 V4. It deletes all the apps and data. Its like resetting your device. I couldnt backup my apps because for some reason, some apps are protected and doesnt get backed up. I was trying to avoid gingerbreak.apk because as mentioned in this forum it has malware embedded, which is true, I got alert from a png file in the app.
Thanks again
