I rooted my Tab using z4root by installing z4root from web. Once installed, run app and click root. phone will reset itself and when it boots back up, check apps for superuser app. If you see superuser app, Tab is rooted. and root doesn't go away with a system erase from SETTINGS/PRIVACY/ERASE ALL DATA. When you reset device, check apps and superuser app will install itself from root.
Put your tab in airplane mode and try again.
I used z4root successfully before, but since i updated to jmd z4root ist not working anymore. It just quits after a while and the tab runs super-slow afterwards. Rooting with super-one-click-root from a PC still works.
The exploit used by z4root doesn't work any more. For now, you can only root using rageagainstthecage exploit via adb (which is what the superoneclick does) or by flashing one of Roto's pre-rooted firmware images.
Super one click works on jmd

I am bumping this thread as i am facing issue with z4root. I have installed z4root from web, started app and clicked on root. Tab was rebooted but when i checked z4root again, it still shows only root option, no unroot and reroot.
However i already installed superuser from market.

Just installing superuser from the Market won't do anything if you're not rooted. The latest firmwares don't work with z4root - you need to use SuperOneClickRoot as suggested earlier in this thread.

Dave

Using Click One for root new Galaxy TAB frimwork
Dear All,
I just updated my Galaxy TAB to the new frimware Adroid Froyo P1000JPJM5
And i used LickOne to do rooting and it works.
I have one comment. i tried to use root directly but i failed, the foolowing step i did it then it works fine ! this step is connecting the Galaxt TAB first to Samsung Kies , then disconnect and enable the USB debugging , then connect to the PC and run ClickOne . and it will work.
My Regards and thanks for everyone.
I used Z4root (before I found this thread) and now my tab is super ridiculously slow. How can I get back to factory to start over? I tried the wipe but I still see files there. I'm new at this. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.
Thanks
I'm not sure why the Tab would be running slow. Try unrooting and rerooting and see if that helps. I've got a VZW GT that I rooted a couple weeks ago and it works great.
Problem: GingerBreak simply sits and churns forever trying to exploit and root my tablet but never succeeds, I have left it running for almost an hour once.
My notes
1. I started with a stock install of 3.0 on the tablet and rooted with GingerBreak no problem.
2. I tossed the recently leaked 3.1 update.zip onto my SDCard and flashed using the stock methods.
3. Checked if root was maintained through the update, and it was not.
4. Double checked that USB Debugging is enabled, even disabled and re-enabled to make sure.
5. I have a clean SDCard in the tablet and mounted with no issues.
6. I have removed and reinstalled GingerBreak to try and see if that would clear things up.
I have seen a few other posts on threads that people have had no issues using GingerBreak on 3.1 but for the life of me I cannot get it to successfuly root my device.
If it comes down to it, I will just return to stock and go about it another way. But, I thought I would inquire if anyone had any suggestions for the current situation.
Are you tried iconiaroot-1.0.apk special for HC3.1 ?
look for it in developement section
Ah, thankyou for pointing out that thread. This has allowed me to root on 3.1 stock.
I cant root my acer iconia a500 using gingerbreak help me please

Ginger break only works with the older version of android 3.01 the modified version . Iconiaroot for 3.1 .. for android 3.2 and above you MUST use one of the downgrade/flash to rooted 3.2.1 There are two threads on this Acer Forum to do this .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20680452&postcount=137
Go here and read this thread .. Understand what your doing before you start . then fallow instructions carefully . and you will be well on your way to ICONIA FREEDOM..
GOOD LUCK..
This worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539
No downgrade needed.
Timmydean:
Ok, after messing around with 3.2 I decided to fix the rooting issues without downgrading. The problem with downgrading is it requires a SDCard and requires you to install a couple of programs and then to install an update.zip from the sdcard. I could not get half my ACER's to read and mount a sdcard, and some ACER's I have located in a remote office and trying to walk someone through the process was too painful. I tweaked the the downgrade tool's images to install 3.2 with root instead of downgrading it and jumping through hoops. All I did to the stock image is to copy the ash shell over to /system/xbin/su and set the sticky bit. Everything else is stock.

Thanks

use the modified gingerbreak in the following link (remove spaces)
http: //www. addictivetips. com/mobile/how-to-root-acer-iconia-a500-honeycomb-tablet/
and follow the steps as it says
no you wont loose your files until you dont brick your device
but you may loose your app data if you do something wrong
so dont forget to backup
I'm not sure what the modified gingerbreak is, but I had the same version and I had to downgrade to 3.0.1 and root and installed custom recovery From there

First off be aware that ginger break has malware in the file. Otherwise I had great luck with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539. Good luck
Thank you all.
One suggestion, please be careful before using the Rooted 3.2.1 V4. It deletes all the apps and data. Its like resetting your device. I couldnt backup my apps because for some reason, some apps are protected and doesnt get backed up. I was trying to avoid gingerbreak.apk because as mentioned in this forum it has malware embedded, which is true, I got alert from a png file in the app.
Thanks again

using GingerBreak will be a lot easier
edit
my bad. if You want to use GingerBreak You should update your system to GingerBread (via motorola sofware for example (if You use Windows)).
