[Q] A request for help making Kindle more accessible... - Kindle Fire General

Hello there,
I just got the Kindle Fire and although I do really like it, I have some problems with it. I got it for my dad as a tablet to surf the web with and read books from Amazon and purchase these books on the official Amazon store too but I have some problems with that.
Firstly, I live in Austria and there is no Amazon App-Market support here nor is there a Kindle Store App. There might be one in the Android Market, which I have not tried , but this is would be crucial, so that he can easily purchase books from the device itself without having to use a computer.
Another thing that's bothered me is that it seems there is no way to bypass the Amazon Appstore restrictions and get GApps while maintaining the original ROM or Interface. Personally, I think that the Carousel Interface is very intuitive and nice , however I hate that you cannot change the language to German, because my dad does not speak English and that if you decide to get another ROM, there is no way to get this Kindle Carousel Interface (that I know of atleast).
So I'm asking you: is there a modified version of the ROM that is currently on the Kindle Fire, maybe with multilanguage support and support for Android Market and if there is not, which custom ROM would you recommend and is there a Kindle App for Android that allows you to access the Store?
I don't care about the video service, I don't really need it nor does my dad but I would really need to have the Kindle book-store support.
If you guys could help me out, I'd be very grateful.

I have a stock Rom that is rooted with multi-language keyboards. I use otaroot keeper to unroot and have full access to the amazon video. I also have all gapps installed since it is rooted. You have install each ime keyboard seperately. I have posted in a thread how I got it to work. All rooting info is available on the forums.

you don't need an other rom - read this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382360
mine is nearly complete in german with the stock rom and have the german book & mp3 store ...

Thanks for the help guys, I was just wondering whether some of you knew if the Kindle Store that is available in the Android Market works with the Fire. Also, if I root the Fire , can I just install the regular Market and then get the Apps?

you can install android market and use this one for apps
little hint: never update the kindle app - your original app on the kf will not work anymore ...
if you change the region as described in the link you get redirected to the german kindle book store
just read it and do exactly as described

It will work. Last update amazon disabled root and keyboards. Just reroot and fix the errors.

[Q] Getting newest android market/downloading

Okay, so I rooted my kindle fire with no problem and I got "Android Market" installed but it is an older version that looks kind of funny and it is not letting me install any of my apps (or any apps from the store). I want the newest one because I have two different Google Accounts with different purchased apps on them. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Where did you download the Android Market?
Check what version your Android Market is:
1. Go to Settings-->Applications-->Third Party Applications
2. Scroll down and select "Market"
The version should be 3.3.11

Also note that there seems to be a filter on the market that doesn't allow all applications to be downloaded on the Fire
You can sideload those apps though, as long as they are compatible with the Kindle Fire

Vending.apk is the problem. All the tutorials had that as the app to use. For me, it was never starting any downloads and yes it was the old market version.
Try com.amarket.apk from the gapps.zip, that worked for me first try.
Use the vending.apk on this post. It is the one that got market fully functional for me.

How did you install?
I installed vending.apk, got same starting download issue. I copied the gapps market apk to sys, chmod to 644 and tried to install. Starts install and then just says Application Not Installed.

This is a good choice. I was using it for a bit on my HTC flyer before I rooted and installed on my Fire.

[Q] Dexter Mod for Google Play on Firmware 2.2?

Can't seem to find an answer to this question.
Looks like the mod Dexter did for adding Google Play to the A7 was for an older version of the A7 firmware (1.4x).
Will this mod work on 2.2 or am I out of luck?
I just inherited this tablet from my 94 year-old mother and the only app I want to put on it is sold only on Google Play.
Thanks
is yours an a7 or a7+ ????

Sorry, mine's a 7.
Any advice from anyone?
Thanks.
OK, I am editing this last post. After a couple of PMs with Dexter, I decided to run the mod on my Elocity. I did discover that the Android Version is 2.2 and not the firmware.
The firmware version is the latest which is 2.01.
Anyway, the mod worked perfectly and now my A7 has access to the Android Marketplace and Google Play.
So all is calm in the universe. The only issue on Marketplace is that it reads the original device model, so if an app was incompatible with your device before the mod, it probably still is afterward. I have an astronomy app I want that lists the Elocity (T-Mobile Compal A7-040) as "incompatible" by the maker of the software because of it's inability to gain access to the Google Marketplace. Every other requirement for the software is met (Android 2.2 and a 1 Ghz processor), but Google still sees the device as imcompatible and won't let me buy it. Bummer!
Where can I find the files for Dexter Mods?
Just bought one of those old A7-004s from Brad Deals.
I want to have Google Play (Market) on the unit. Ready to burn new rom, but where are the Dexter Files? His website is dead.
Thanks

i have google play on mine and its stock with a few changes but because its under warranty i refuse to put a full mod on it till the warranty runs out.. but anyway go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431967 and use the dropbox download and use the z4root app to root your device, if its already rooted then proceed to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582422 and get the latest play market.
note i tried the modded market but it wouldnt let me download anything so i went with the non mod google play market and everything seems to work fine.. just the normal google crap saying some apps are not compatible with your device.. but theres a workaround for that if you edit the build.prop to have it say its a different device(not sure exactly how to do it but ive seen a few threads where people have done this but i havent).

What is the best build.prop for the Kindle Fire that opens up the most apps ...

... and are Kindle compatible? Right now I am doing a DROID3 but that is a phone not a tablet. What build.prop should I do so that it is most compatible with the Kindle and allows me the most apps?
Here's the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727645
No I want it to list all the compatible ones. For example both bTunes and Order & Chaos work with a Kindle Fire from the Kindle Fire App Store. Once rooted the Play Store told me bTunes wasn't compatible at the Store and wouldn't let me download and Order & Chaos would download the original file and when launched would say they couldn't verify my phone so it wouldn't download the additional data. Both programs are compatible with the Kindle Fire yet they are not when rooted and attempting to install from the Play Store. I was able to edit my build.prop to think it was a DROID3 and both installed and downloaded additional data but wouldn't launch. Changed back to Kindle build.prop and both work perfect now. I want to leave a compatible build.prop on but don't know which one will only show what is compatible with my Kindle and then work like it should.
Jandycane and build.prop
Anyone running Jandycane have any luck with a build.prop edit that opens up more apps?
I tried setting it to samsung as posted in other thread, but the kindle didn't like it much. Assuming since it is basically ASOP.
Here's what I altered and no go.
ro.product.model=GT-I9100
ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.name=GT-I9100
ro.product.device=GT-I9100
ro.product.board=GT-I9100
(a few more rows down)
ro.product.manufacturer:samsung
Any other ideas? I'm considering going to CM, but it's running so good....
Thanks
The build.prop that seemed to work very well for me was the one in MoDaCo. I didn't have any problems with incompatible apps but maybe that was because it was mostly a stock ROM.

I'm using CM10 ROM Linaro and after I edited my KF as a GT-I9100, it lost sound and brightness control.
Is there anyone having the same problem ?

how can I spoof my device type?

I am trying to install an app from my TV provider that will let me watch tv, control my dvr ect. They have a Kindle fire version and an android version that works on select devices. The problem I am having is that once I install a rom, the app states that the device is not compatible. Im assuming this is because, the android app wont have the KF on its list of devices since it has its own separate app. Is there any way I can change what my KF is identified as in order to use this app?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

The post above you has a fix in his signature that is this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42181794&postcount=75 give that a try.
You won't be able to install TWRP until you install a 2nd bootloader. Once you do that, you flash the ROM from there.
