[Q] BOOT LOOP CM7.1 please help me. what shall i do? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

please help me.. im using CM7, i wanted to have an android market app, savad anjillath from facebook gave me this site "goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-hdpi-20100817-signed.zip" i installed it and rebooted my phone... now it is in boot loop at the cyanogen 7 logo.. i dont know what to do now.. please help me....

That's a gapps zip from 2010... It's like 1.5 year old. That's 20 in Android years ^^. I think it was meant for CM6.
Things you could do:
Go to custom recovery, Wipe data/cache, Install latest CM7 rom(not necessary but recommended => latest changes are kind-a cool), Install the gapps for gb(gingerbread): http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Another thing is to install adb, learn to use it a bit, and try to delete all the files from the zip. That way you don't lose your apps/data. Or make a script in the zip that deletes all these files. It's just listing everything.
Or make a nand-backup fist, buy the paid titanium backup app. The latest version can recover apps from a nand backup (I tought)
But it you don't necessary need any data, just go with option one.

u can try to enter the customer Recovery, execute wipe, and then reflash your rom

first just try to restart ur phone after pulling off ur battery .. happens to me all the time .. 2nd time always works

Thats what everyone does next after rooting.
Everytime you flash a custom rom do a full wipe then install the fresh rom. you can use either rom manager or quickboot then go to recovery mode. i use quickboot coz its easy give you 3 options reboot, recovery and bootloader. if you did a full root backup your nandroid first before installing a fresh rom

Help wildfire cm7

Good morning i've a problem with my wildfire, i've root my device with revolutionary and install clockworkmod, after i install cyanogenmod, i try with7.0.3,7.0.2 and 7.0.1.. and i've the same problem, it reboot in loop and they stop on the screen change language...
help me please!!
ciao
try to wipe and factory reset before you flash the rom
i forget to tell that i do every wipe before every flash..
i have heared of a bootloop bug when you flash the wrong gapps
try to flash the latest gapps if you havent already
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
i don't know what appen, but i leave the phone without battery for a while, and it boot up correctly... now try to restart with finger crossed
Let it reboot if it happens, and, skip all the Google Setup. (i.e. - do it later, once the ROM boots up fully) It happens on some of the builds.
it reboot correctly and i skip the setup..i hope that i don't need to flash again..thanks
No, you don't need to reflash. Now, simply open Android Market, and you will be able to enter your Google ID again, and this time, it will not reboot,.

[Q] Defy restoring itself to old ROM automatically!!!

Hi All,
I am new here and this is my first post. But i have been reading this forum for quite sometime and know that u guys are now my final stone. I am a proud owner of a Motorola Defy. And I am having this strange behavior, which is effectively rendered the phone almost useless. The phone is acting like its got a restore point in itself, and every time i restart.. it gets back to that point in time.
This includes app installs, uninstalls, stuff placed in system through adb push, theme, everything in the OS. I tried installing a different ROm through clockworkmod, but its not taking effect. Its saying install success but as soon as it restarts, its going back to the old ROM. (takes time to load, so i guess it reinstall back/restored the old version)
Details of device : I am from India and the phone was manufactured in India in around April/May 2011. Its a red lens Defy and and came with Eclair. I updated it officially to the first Froyo release for SEA region. After that i rooted the phone with superone click, and installed WIUI rom. I have been updating the ROM with newer versions around each month. The last one was 1.11.18 though as i waiting for a good ICS version to flash.
The problem occurred after i started installing some gold apps from getJar. It restated in between and install... and that point is kind of acting like a restore point even now.
Things I did: Tried installing different rom by CWM method. Reinstalling second init and CM, both old and new version. Tried restoring nandroid backup of my official ROM. Tried fixed and full sbf flash through rsdlite 4.9.5.2 and now 5.6. First 3 things reset as soon as i restart. For RSDLite, it gives checksum error for each and every ROM i tried. I tried all SEA releases, JORDN_U3_97.21.51, Defy Plus Rom 2.3.6, 2.21 first eclair rom, everything gives the same error. From the RSDLite logs, i could see that there is something wrong as.. say the last successful CG was 33, and the error came for 34, the log says its expecting the checksum on the sbf to be equal to that of CG 33. Its taking the last successful checksum validation and expecting that for all the CGs henceforth. its not showing what the device actually has.
I atlast could somehow, but trial and error, removed all the CGs which were throwing error, and recompiled the sbf to make it pass the RSDLite flash. The CGs present in the ROM (JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-36-1.7) were 32, 34, 42, 53, 61, 64, 65. And as soon as it booted, it restored back to the checkpoint. Even after i formatted by card and put it in, the app shortcuts remained on the home screen, but as the apps on the card were gone, they are just junk and doesnt open anything.
Thanks in advance. Please let me know what you need from me to help me resolve this issue.
Any help... Anyone?
Can someone please suggest something?
This is what i got from some people. I am not sure how far this is possible, but somehow the theme i installed just before this all happened, from MIUI market.. somehow managed to change something inside phone's kernel, past the locked bootloader? I am totally a noob in this and just a wild imagination?
Or may be some sort of cache wipe is happening everytime the phone boots up, So even when i install the ROM, when it boots up, it gets back the old ROM.. like what would probably happen if i do a factory reset soon after i instal a rom before the restart..?
I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out with this...
Checksum errors were for me also.
I tried my office computer for flashing and instantly flash was done. The checksum error occurred 7 times on my good computer before that.
Reflashing froyo must take care of all errors happening
Thanks Kapil fr the response. Are you from india? Which sbf did u flash? And waht all did u install in the office pc? I have a pc of my friend where i can try to reflash if you tell me the exact steps that u took in the fresh pc.
Also, can anybody tell me how to use adb commands in CWM mode? Its recognizing my phone in normal mode but as soon as it boots in Moto recovery of CWM, its not recognizing anymore. Want to use adb format commands from recovery.
Hi I was able to use adb in CWM, but format commands were not working. How can i format the system partition? please help me with this.
Is there anyone here who know how to restore a nandroid backup manually using adb commands for MB525???!!!!!
Sounds weird and impossible. Try this. Wipe everything though cwm and flash new rom. Try ms2ginger.
Thanks darshanonline for the suggestion. I tried to wipe everything.. factory reset+cache+dalvik cache wipe. And then tried to install cyanogenmod 7.1 as well as 3 different wiui builds. Everytime it shows that the install was successful, ut as soon as i restart, it would go back to the old ROM.
Is there any checkpoint system in android, seeing the init.rc, i can see comments on something about saving a checkpoint. Is there any particular condition under which this checkpoint may be getting used on very restart?
Also.. is there any way for RSDLite to skip the chksum validations and get the install anyways?.. Some sort of a hack into it?
Ok.. Found something else thats happening. I dont need to shutdown for the system to revert back. Say i install a few things new after a reboot.. After some time.. 1 day at max, i am not able to open them, and neither am i able to open manage applications or market. Everything force closes. I have Ti Backup installed, and i opened it, and i didnt find the new apps to back up. I connected the device and checked through adb, and they were not present in the app folder. They just vanished... So basically after a certain point of tiime, the new stuff just gets deleted on its own.
Guys i know i may sound dumb and stupid with my questions, but i really couldnt find any solution on the net for this. Please tell me waht i should do, and i'll do it. But tell me something. Dont ignore please!
and you did wipe data from within stock recovery (vol down+power etc.), i presume..

Yes i did that too.
wiped data and cache. Restarted to cwm and installed update.zip (renamed cm 7.1 stable) and by selecting zip from sd card. Same results. Installs successfully but reverts back as soon as i restart.

DL WIUI 1.12.16 ICS > copy to SD card > Boot in CWM > select zip to install > Install WIUI 1.12.16
Hopefully your problem should be solved.
I found 1.12.16 ICS with lesser FC than the 2.21

Thanks for the link. Now i know that i am not the only one having this issue. But even there its not resolved yet.
@ headers.chennai - Thanks. I will try that ROM, along with Pikachu ROM with Aroma installer, might be a different installer can try fix it?!
BTW.. does anyone have the TI OMAP board utility? Any chance that it can be available outsite here?
I tried the arora installer and it supposedly formatted the system partition and remade it.. but as soon as it finishes and i restart.. I get back the same ROM.
Is it some way that the files are not getting deleted, like some hardware lock or fault?

Hi, bro! What is "arora"? I should try it asap, and all other chance.
My trouble here, same as your.
Hey man.. looks like we are having same problem...
Sorry abt the typo... its Aroma Installer. Its with the Pikachu ROM in this link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498843
Its a new installer that launches from cwm when u try and install this ROM. u got some options to select and on selecting the complete install option,, the log shows that it formats the system partition and then creates it. I saved the log file, but for some reason the file shows up blank now. Might be problem with the launcher.. or my phone.. dont know.

[Q] First time ever that im going to use a custom rom

Allright.. i decided to start using a custom rom, which will be CM9. but because of soo mutch information on this website i dont fully understand anymore what to do, and because im still a noob, i cant post in the original thread of CM9.
I have a Red lens Motorola Defy MB525, found out with catlog that i got the bayer camera module , non branded, stock froyo.
Rooted my defy
nandroid backup with 2nd init , made a copy to my laptop to be completely save.
did backup the apps with titanium backup
also have the app battery calibration so i can fix my battery after the custom rom.
i will write the custom rom when my battery is on atleast 50 percent, so it will not die.
So what do i have to do next?
download the correct ROM, it will come as a .zip
copy it to your sdcard, reboot to 2nd init recovery,
factory reset, and wipe dalvik cache from advanced menu.
then in recovery choose install zip from sdcard, choose your ROM.zip, install,
reboot, it will take pretty long until it boots first time because system is rebuilding the dalvik. (~5min)
Wow , thats sounds way more simple then i can find on this site.
Ill try it tommorow night! any further suggestions?
Maybe you should try multiboot first just to be on the safe side.
what is multiboot and how can i do that?
Multiboot is basically the possibility to have two or more different ROMs (e.g. CM7 and CM9) installed at the same time and when you boot up you can choose which ROM you want to use. But it is a bit complicated and it wouldn't work with stock Froyo as one of the ROMs I think.
More suggestions? You should also download the latest gapps from http://goo.im/gapps and put the zip on your sd card as well. After wiping and installing the CM9 Nightly from sd go to install zip from sd again and choose the gapps .zip. After that you can reboot the system.
The gapps are the Google Apps (i.e. Play Store and some more) and without them you can't even setup your Google Account, download apps, use Gmail etc.
Ah thanks for that! downloaded it and saved it to my desktop for now.
Still need to figure out which rom i need to choose.. the epsylon?

That would be good. Try it out and see if it suits your requirements..There are many ROM's for froyo kernel. You can try those and see which suits you best.
Happy Modding.
yeaaay! Thanks for all the great help, it worked perfect and was really easy to do!
Cant wait till all the apps are back on my phone from the backups that i made and then let the modding begin! haha
- running Epsylon CM9!

Problems after flashing EliteMod Kernel ICS 120704

Hi all,
first of all sorry for posting here and not in the EliteMod Thread. But i have to post 10 times and then ........
After flashing the new kernel i´m missing a lot of apps?!?!?!
No matter how i flash (wipe data/dalvik or wipe nothing) the apps are missing. I use dataswap (64mb) if necessary.
The apps i miss are Titianium Backup, Terminal, Gentle Alarm and so on.
I dont know why this is happens. Until now every new kernel or Elitemod Rom was fine.
I normally flash via 4ext recovery, but same via RomManager.
Any tipps or help??
BTW: I really love the work from Nikr. His EliteMod Rom and tweaks are really the best i´ve seen so long.
thx for help and keep flashing :fingers-crossed:
If you did a full wipe and installed a fresh new Rom then course you're going to be missing apps until you re-install them. Or at the very least install the titanium backup app then running a restore for the apps.
Though with a kernel-only flash (i.e.: that new one the other day) you shouldn't be wiping data/etc to flash it.
Maybe a little more details on your problem?
Hi,
thx for the quick respond.
I downloaded kernel zip and put it on the sdcard. After that boot into recovery and choose install zip from sdcard.
Thats was the normal way for kernels. But if i do this now i miss a lot of apps.
I tried to wipe only dalvik and flash, same result. I tried to wipe dalvik/data and flash, same result.
Only changes till the last rom flash i did, was to pull down the LCD destiny from 240 to 210 via Rom Toolbox.
It wouldn´t be such a big deal, but the apps i miss i also couldn´t find in the market. If i search for Titanium Backup nothing appears. Same for Gentle Alarm and so on.
I flash Roms for over 1 year now, but something like that never happend
the change in dpi will affect some apps as "not avalaible" as the are only able to work with certain densities. maybe change this and see what happens
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Today was a new Kernel Version released and everything is fine now.
Looks like there was a kernel problem with apps on stored on the sd card.
thx for help anyway
