Universal motorola root method Discovered - Xoom General

So well known hacker, Dan Rosenberg has managed to root the Droid 4 and possibly discovered a universal motorola root method. He initially requested $200 so he could purchase the Droid 4 and then he would deliver the root method and has since released the necessary batch script as that goal was reached.
Now he is promised a universal motorola root method when $500 is donated. I'd like to believe this is legit.
Anyway, I'm posting this here because as far as I know, the Xyboard/Xoom 2 has still yet to be rooted and there is no forum for that device so I'm sure there are plenty xyboard/xoom 2 owners here anxiously hoping for a root method.
Here's the link to the story and within it a link to the donate page if you're interested.

Is xda gonna fix the prem app? No links work

Dan Rosenberg is legit, I believe him, and I'm donating. If this is for real then hopefully I can root my Xyboard right away.

I donated a bit myself as Xyboard development seems scarce and I'd really like to see motocast for tablets pulled from a rooted xyboard.

I just realized he already released the root method. I'm actually attempting it now.
edit: no luck

I thought he had only released the droid 4 root and the universal was separate?

No, the one he released is supposedly universal.

I don't know this guy or his work, but when you release something based on donations it is no longer donations. This guy selling root tools and nothing pisses me off more. I will not be helping with his cause.

No. Just no. $200 was to allow him to buy a Droid 4, $300 was to be donated directly to the Red Cross. Now all donations are being sent directly to the Red Cross. He's not even going to be getting the Droid 4.

Precisely this. He was trying to get people to donate money to a charitable thing.
TBH, I'm tired of Android users thinking that because the OS is open, everything should be. So many people that I know (or see on reddit) and one of the first questions: what are some FREE apps that I should get? Its probably one of the contributing factors to why iOS has so more apps: their users are actually willing to pay for quality.

He was shocked when people reacted negatively to his $500 "ransom" demands. He does, of course, have the right to sell his work if he chooses. And that attitude may dramatically alter others' opinions of him.
He then very quickly backed down from the $500 demand, and released the unlocker.
He still hit hit his target of $500 very fast - he stopped accepting $ at $575.

Actually - the $500 hard ransom was correct. He changed the rules after getting some pushback.
My $.02 (and you get change back from the 2 cents) is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22433305&postcount=10
I do believe if he'd started with
- the unlocker is released
- donations are voluntary
- first 200 is mine for a tool I'll buy that will help you
- next 100 / 200 is dinner for my family
- remainder goes to charity (or keep it all)
That he'd have over 1,000 by now.

I hate when people throw a hissy fit over something like asking for a donation. Dan should be compensated for his work and time spent finding this exploit. I literally found out about this 10 minutes ago after checking android police (haven't been on there in a few days). I wish I would of known sooner. I would of gladly donated. Keep up the good work Dan and don't let a few idiots discourage you. Thank you for your hard work and time.

Serious Idea for Getting Moto to unlock Bootloader or work with devs.

So. It's just an idea... but how about a coordinated return?
I'd bring mine back and show them who they REALLY sold the phone to.
It's not like a bunch of soccer moms are running out to get this phone.
We should cram used merch. back down their stupid f'ing throats if they're not willing to work with us.
On top of that I'm pretty sure you could just turn around and repurchase the same phone... thereby dumping TONS of phones they have no choice but to refurb and sell at a loss.

yes, it is confirmed that it is SIGNED, not encrypted.
and really? you think you'll get a massive amount of people to return the phone? Good luck, i bet you couldn't get 0.5% of owners to follow through on that.
Seriously. Just be patient, devs will work this out. While it'll be tough to work around the signatures, it's nothing compared to 1024-bit AES encryption.
The phone was literally (officially) released today. Let's work through this one day at a time. I'd be surprised if we haven't made some great headway on this phone in a couple of weeks.

Agreed. They already have a promising workaround for the bootloader on the Droid X using kexec, they just need drivers. Instead of returning your phone in protest, donate to the Atrix devs so they can provide you with the means to get around the bootloader.

Returning my Galaxy SIII (Verizon)

it is with a very sad and heavy heart that i've decided to return my samsung galaxy s3 to Verizon today. it's by far the greatest cellphone i've seen.
i had shattered my Thunderbolt a couple weeks back, and wanting to keep my unlimited data plan, i was more than glad to pay full price for this device. it's really that incredible.
unfortunately, upon receiving the device, i learned of +Verizon Wireless' locking of the bootloader. they were the only carrier to do such. this has soured the taste in my mouth so greatly, that i am forced to send this incredible machine back to Verizon.
a truly sad day to be a geek.

i am, when i preordered the device there was no 'developer version' (and there's yet one to be for sale on Samsung's developer page)
when it goes live, i'll pick up one, though it makes me wonder just how much Android developer support will be on the Verizon model. not too many devs are willing to pay full price, the community is likely to be very small.
Imo your better off sticking around and waiting for Adam Outleter to finish unlocking the bootloader. I doubt too many will be getting the dev gs3. Dont see much point in a developer edition when there wont be much development on it...

The locked version will have 10x the dev support Imo. I wouldn't get the dev device. That and you can already flash aosp roms on the locked version using kexec. I think you are making a mistake.

Risky flash process is off-putting. I expect we'll see much more activity once it is possible to flash a recovery with less risk of ending up with a hundred dollar paperweight. Plus the OUYA people promised an open console and many people have been disgusted enough to have avoided the console altogether due to the horror that customer relations have proven to be.

I am definitely pissed about certain things that could have been handled alot better (Like right now I'm forcing myself to not go into examples). But I think we need to move on. I don't think any device has ever really had a lot of things going on when you first get them. Really if I would have read some of this stuff before hand I would have still got it but the average person might not and there could be a bad ass developer right now weighing out whether or not he should get this thing and it's not looking good. Nope. Not going to happen. The OUYA was billed as an open console and what has been delivered to us paying customers has been anything but open. I will not be quiet, I will not get over it, nor will I go away.
If the OUYA fails it will be because of bitterness by early adopters like myself who discovered we had been sold a bill of goods and are educating everyone else we know on what a horrible deal the OUYA is as a result.

This one could have. It was going to be different--"So begins the revolution", remember? If the OUYA team had actually delivered something open they could have had an instant community of developers and users springing up around the device--instead people are getting increasingly vocal about bugs, the lack of transparency and a lack of a true open console. These people are not going to go away.
At the current rate things are going I highly doubt the OUYA will see its third hardware revision. There might be a poorly sold second edition but there will be no third version because the poor sales of the second release will kill the company. If it happens it will be their own fault for not fulfilling their promises to their customers.

Let me make it easy for any developers looking in. I have already bought three OUYA games and have been adding several others to a mental list of games I'd like to purchase in the near future, but I absolutely refuse to buy any more games until the OUYA team fixes the USB storage bugs. I will not buy a single game from this time forward until things change.

I loved my Ouya at first, rooted , cmw, emulators, side loading. But overscan killed me to death. I don't want to use this on my 42 inch I want It on my 32 inch Samsung gaming tv. lets face it the nexus 7 delivers what ouya can't, hdmi out open source and the ability to take it on the go as a fabulous tablet to. but it's double the price. I returned mine and if ouya doesn't get it's stuff in order this thing will be a dud.I have Roku, Chromecast, 2 Nexus 7's and every current gen console. we have steambox on the way, Xbox one, Ps4 and more coming. Ouya is going to be eaten alive if it doesn't open up the pandoras box and let the fun out.

[Q] Verizon version capable of root?

So I've started researching the Note 3 as of recently as a replacement to my S4. What's got me worried is all the talk about how Verizon has taken extra steps to lock down the Note 3. I know the talk isn't anything new since Verizon has consistently tried locking down our phones without success, however is there anything new to cause concern over this phone in particular? Are we confident that the Note on Verizon will receive root with s-off? Not having root would definitely be a deal breaker so I'd like to nail down the facts before I pull the trigger. Also another side question, what is the version number for the Verizon version? Thanks for any help provided!
Found the answer to my second question. The Verizon version model number will be model SM-N9005
That's the same lte model that they are already rooting overseas. The criteria being the bootloader is unlocked. I'll be around to supply cheer and encouragement

This is what pisses me off Suzook, I agree we have all been trolled and we all was hoping the 29th was the ship date. One of my best friends is a Verizon Corp manager and told me that Verizon was going to ship the phone out early so they wouldn't lose business to other carriers but there was some legal concerns about charging people cards earlier then what's posted on Verizon website. So they didn't sale early....
As for the guy saying he is going to unlock the bootloader he might be full of it and he might be telling the truth!!! There's 7+ billion people in this world, I'm sure it's possible that someone is either smart enough to crack it or has inside connections. Think about the S3, that was unlocked because someone leak an unlocked bootloader... Note 2 never received that leak, it was unlocked because Adam and Relake (I misspelled his name).
It's okay to be pessimistic, but lets see how this thing plays out instead of making rude comments. The rude comments serve no point and does nothing for the xda community.
If you would stop and reflect and compare your post vs your thanks, now look at my post vs thanks, you will see I have half the post but twice as many thanks as you... Why?? because I try to post comments with a purpose and not judge or say negative comments.

Im not a pessimist, but a realist. Everyone needs to accept there is NO BL unlock. Why start rumors? Thats all they are without PROOF. All it does it make pointless threads.

All I'm saying is you can't see the future, until the phones are released and we give him a chance we can't say if his post was pointless :highfive: lets be friends

Verizon rep is full of it. All it takes is a simple email saying you are going to be charged a week early or whatever and if you wish to wait till 10/10 please call such and such and boom done. It was never early everybody speculated there was no proof of early release. Let me go back to bestbuy where I was yesterday talking to inventory guys and Samsung rep with road map and had 10/10 so anybody saying before is a straight up liar.
And the rude posts!?!? Are you kidding? Dude posts for sure they are shipping 9/29 & unlocked bootloader & then closes thread before he "talks" to Verizon. Yeah right. Now this unlocked crap he is full of it.

Suzook and I found a common ground, I understand where he's coming from and he understood my point. We can not predict the future.... EZ closed his thread because he was tired of you guys treating him like Sh.. for no reason.. If sockmonkey posted right now he has a unsecure bootloader for the note 3 you would call b.s.... but he is the same guy who released the bootloader for the s3... my point is until the guy proves he's full of it, give him a break...

PSA: USA Bootloaders WILL be LOCKED!!!

My DM with a T-Mobile rep.
Any chance you can ask them to list the actual bands the phone supports?
I'm glad I'll be the recipient of the Exynos (unlocked) version. However i can get with the whole security aspect in regards to Google wallet & Samsung Pay/android pay. Like you mentioned though i NEVER and will EVER use this service, it gets disabled from the moment i get the phone (plus my bank doesn't support it anyway lol).
You pay a premium it should be up to the user as to what he does and yes what he/she risks.
I am very much against taking away the option of root and custom ROMs because of a service being forced upon us.

I second being against them taking away root and ROMs and forcing services upon us. If there was less or no fragmentation in android with regards to updates, I could perhaps stay stock..

LOL! Sorry but, how old are you? I'm as disappointed as anyone, but you're acting like a child. You think that because YOU'VE been with T-Mobile "since VoiceStream" T-Mobile should change their decision? Ridiculous. The guy you were talking to can't help you, cannot make any executive decisions and sure as hell isn't passing along your "concerns" to Legere. He also doesn't give a damn that you're cancelling a whopping THREE (3!!!) device orders. Did you think he was going to crumble to his knees, beg you to keep your orders and run tell boss, "we must change our bootloader plans because Mr. VoiceStream is simply NOT having it?"
You were just whining to yourself while he typed, "I understand how you feel" and rubbed your shoulders a bit.
Agreed, complaining to a underpaid rep that probably hates listening to people complain all day everyday is not going to get bootloaders unlocked.

Yet people still complain lol.
You know the bootloader is locked before you buy the device. Deal with it and move on.
Edit: not aimed towards you. Just saying in general of the complainers lol

LMAO...Yea, sure he did.
Useless thread. This is not a surprise and is something we already knew.
I ordered two from TMo and I'm sure that a root method will pop up soon after release.
Motorola had bootlocks on the Bionic and it was still able to be rooted. I bet within a month we'll be rooting with the rest of them.:good::good:

Samsung has officially lost by business. Been a samsung guy since the S3 and I've stuck with them in the years since. It's such a shame that they choose to do this. I don't need Samsung pay, as I have a wallet. Awful that they force these programs down our throats as they're nice to have but are completely unnecessary.

The Galaxy S7 came out in March and it took three months to even figure out how to root it. We don't even have a bootloader unlock for the GS7, and it's been a year since it's release. Might want to lower your expectations as devs are moving away from locked down devices like the Galaxy series in the U.S.
Wow this is like posting water is wet.
I stopped rooting my phones, but I'm still against taking away the option. I just never could pull the trigger on losing Samsung Pay permanently.

I'm in the same boat as you. Unsure of what to do for the foreseeable future. Also KNOX. I actually do care about tripping it. The email app my company uses breaks if KNOX is tripped....
