i was just reading articles (on korean news web site) and it was saying that
samsung will not introduce galaxy s3 in MWC but they might display Galaxy note S instead.
The article also stated that the Galaxy Note S will have ICS, better camera and quadcore CPU..
Now, I don't know if this source is regit and trustful.. but i am definitely interested in, and probably even consider, changing my note to the quadcore ICS Samsung galaxy note for sure
imo i dont think samsung will introduce another note before s3 also i dont think samsung is willing to put an alternative to its own product while it is sales are good.
That would be suicide in my personal opinion. They JUST released this device 3 months ago, and they're going to announce the next one? Do you know how many people would be pissed off, myself included. Especially after paying top dollar (in my case Euro) for a device that they would supposedly be phasing out for its new big brother Note S?
I count this as pure speculation, and it won't happen. I stand corrected if it does, and I would have also lost complete faith in Samsung if they do! That's just bad marketing!!!

+1, you are 100% correct. The Galaxy Note only just came out, only had mine a few months so it's very unlikely they will release another one.
In fact the Note hasn't even been released in the US yet! How can they bring out a newer version when the original is still to be released in America?
I'd say 2013 at the earliest for a Note replacement, not anytime soon...
It's most likely a fake rumour or the Galaxy S III...
Rumors make the world go round.
I don´t think that after the huge success of the S2 and the Note, are the Samsung Mobile managers in any hurry of releasing a next device. From the Note there are already over 1,5 Million devices sold and the phone is not even out in the US.
At the moment the market will stay stable for a while there is really no real competitor to Samsung. HTC is no where near at the moment with their products and LG just failed in my opinion giving the customers the support they deserve.
The strategy is pretty simple. The web will be filled with rumors and speculations for the S3 / possible Note2 just to build up momentum and discussions about it.
Samsung has placed its self as an Apple alternative nr1 at the moment. They will only release an S3 or a Note2 when Apple decides to release the Idumb5.
So expect both devices (Idumb5 and S3) at about the same time (estimate mid summer).
Customer support is the key to success. Give the customer the feeling he is valuable to the company and you will try to keep him satisfied. Especially if he has payed some 600€ for a fricking phone.
i totally agree with you, the new note s won't be in market anytime soon, but i was thinking that samsung might introduce note s in MWC and produce it in the 4th quarter? then again, i have no idea if the writer has regit sources.. but hey, quadcore note.. im totally buying it lol
From what I heard, the Samsung Galaxy Note S was the smaller version of the current Note. Although that's very doubtful because that sort of is the Galaxy S II.
Releasing this phone any time soon would simply mean less money for Samsung, as the Note is still being sold alot, and needs to be sold more in the US too.
I sure hope the Samsung Note S is just a rumour if it, indeed, is the bigger, quad core version of our Note. That'd devastate all the current Note users..
quit whining
Guys,
I am really surprised at the attitude here, why would anyone not want them to release a newer updated version of the Note, a product that is already good but like anything can be made even better.
Technology marches on, the note was announced early summer 2011 yes some of you have only just got them but there will still be people buying galaxy s2 even after the s3 is released or announced.
do you really want to stop progress, it would be like saying our parents saying i dont want anyone to invent CD's because I have just bought a nice tape deck.....
Grow up, quit whining and stop trying to fight the future.
I'll flog my note to some technological dullard and buy a quad core, super amoled plus hd ( non pentile ) rear plate cmos camera equipped G Note S the moment it comes out.
Now a real question is does anyone know if the S-pen will retain pressure sensitivity using the ICS native api or only running wacom drivers......
MG
I am not against the future or development of technology.
I just hope that Note S don't come out TOO SOON. Got it? NOT TOO SOON!
'Cause I don't want my beloved Note is soon defaced by a stupid-same-size-and-design thing!!!
I wrote about this few weeks back,GNote with its 5.3" screen has created a completely new class, and looks like its becoming a hit fast,so Samsung just cant sit back and watch some another company come up with same form factor but with better specs, they have to keep themselves in the lead by beeing few steps ahead of the compitition.
Hence my prediction that we will have a new GNote sometime in the 4th quarter, and ,of course, i will be there to get one ,which also means cutting back my beer consumption, since this thing doesnt come cheap!!.

The Note was first announced in September 2011 and released in October 2011 (black version). Most phones were delivered in November / December first time and the white devices were first in December there.
We are at the start of February the phone is at the hands of most owners for a maximum of two or three months.
I am one of the owners who frequently changes phone, mostly because its a hobby but I really like the note and I would like to stick to it longer than 3 months before I loose a huge amount of money just because a newer version is out.
I can see a successor to the note only in at aprox year from now as a bigger S3.
These could be a Galaxy Note S or Plus or whatever but I don't think it will be a replacement for Galaxy S2 but just another addition in Samsung product portfolio.
As I wouldn't be happy to get 5 something inch screen because it's too big for me if we speak about phone

there was an official announcement sometime back on sammobiles, or I should say maybe that was an unofficial news, but the Note S will be unveiled later this year in q4, They just started selling in usa and canada from feb, and invested millions in the super bowl ad, its impossible for note release.
plus its just announced that samsung isnt showing anything at mwc. cheers !

Hah! Funny people. Do your really think that Samsung is that stupid? They've invested A LOT of money into the Note, and it sells pretty well, and you think that Samsung will unveil a new model when the US version just got released, and they advertised at the freaking Super Bowl!?
"Yes, let's advertise this product and release a completely new model in a month and burn some serious money".
If they did that people would stop buying the Note and wait for the "Note S", and Samsung would have massive losses. Do you think it's cheap to build and design a phone? No. It costs millions upon millions of dollars.
The natural thing would be to unveil the next gen Note in september again; 12 month after the previous unveiling, like they're doing with the Galaxy S products.
And i'll end this post with a quote:
"When pushed, Ryan Bidan, director of product marketing at Samsung, said that while he wasn’t sure what the model count for his company would be in 2012, he agreed that phone makers should drive down the number of phones. “Sheer SKU proliferation is a problem,” he said."
Maybe it could be the rumored Samsung Galaxy Journal rumored to be coming on Verizon and Sprint (USA). Same 5.3" display and all that but CDMA w/LTE support.
Yup, that might be the case.
why fight the future

Firemaker please keep up.
There was plenty of articles and discussions about samsung note back in august last year and the note or smart-tab-phone ( translation) was allready shown at a number of trade shows in korea througout the summer ( Anyone could read about it ahead of the official release even in mass market blogs like engaget )
Its now february half a year later and I dont understand the alarm and negative comments this is causing.
1) most buyers of these devices dont even read these geek only sites and just buy what they see in the stores... they dont care what *might* be available on worldwide import or other geos
2) very few of the notes users pay 600 anythings £$€ as they just buy phones on contract so its no real loss for them if there is an update
3) Surely any reasonable individual would be pleased if sammy annouce an updated note taking advantage of refreshed technology, we are not talking revolution here, purely an evolution to the current state of the market for a premium device. ( how could any non luddite aurgue this isnt a good thing ?)
4) people are whining they are loosing money ....WTF you bought something its great, so chill out be pleased, something better will come out soon, who cares you havnt lost anything ...if you buy a dell pc and intel release a faster processor six months later will you get upset if dell include it in that model......
we should celibrate these refreshes and be pleased for constant innovation otherwise we would all be still walking around with wap speed data on our tft ipaqs and sony clies instead of hspa oled hd notes.....
maybe they announce TW5 and ICS
May be they will announce a Galaxy Note S with SuperAMOLED Plus?
All the 'S' phones have SuperAMOLED Plus display. YoU never know,

Possible Galaxy Tab WITHOUT mobile contract (phone)

GREAT NEWS. Would it be right to interpret his statement as saying that some versions of the Galaxy Tab will NOT have the mobile (aka cell phone) component in it? In other words, the device will be sold WITHOUT cellular contract?
As best we know, no. At the very least there hasn't been an official announcement of the Gtab without a 3G radio.
What this seems to be referring to is that you will be able to get one off contract from normal retailers. It will still have the radio and all it will need to get online is a SIM card. That's why so many people on these boards are sooo interested in the price off contract; because unlike the iPad you can chop and change between devices with one data contract as you fancy.

Galaxy Tab to have IPS TFT-LCD display
Hydis to supply IPS panel for Samsung tablet PC, says Digitimes Research
DIGITIMES ICT/FPD Report
Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES, Taipei [Wednesday 8 September 2010]
Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Tab 7-inch tablet PC is said to have received some of its IPS panels, which are of comparable grade as those of Apple's iPad, from Hydis, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based E Ink as well as from Samsung itself. The panel will feature fringe filed switching (FFS) technology, according to Digitimes Research senior analyst Mingchi Kuo.
Citing talks with upstream component makers, Kuo pointed out that the Galaxy Tab's CPU will have the same performance as its C110 processor, but memory will be upgraded from the original configuration of 256MB to 512MB.
Kuo also estimated that the Galaxy Tab's shipments will reach 2-2.2 million units in 2010, with a model adopting an AMOLED panel to be launched in 2011.
With both iPad and Galaxy Tab using IPS panels for their display, Kuo believes the trend will help speed up the penetration of IPS technology in tablet PCs.

then i'll definitely wait for the 2011 versions
to any logical person
no one would be crazy enough to carry a TAB as their main cell phone
i really would LOL if any cell phone provider will try to sell you one with a cell phone plan
Now Sam**** treats T-Mobile as ****, period!
I don't know how much of a difference it make to me for AMOLED over TFT. I mean, I sure as hell love the screen on my Galaxy, the gorgeous deep blacks and rich vibrant colours are just awesome, but it didn't effect my decision to buy. It was more of a 'Oh wow thats awesome' when I got it, but I'd have been happy either way. I think that since we'll be getting better pixel depth than the iPad (130 ppi against 170) the display will still look much better.
I guess if they said there was an AMOLED version coming in say January, then I'd wait, but since I suspect it won't be until a lot later, I'm still happy to get this generation of Tab device. Particularly if the only difference between the two devices is the screen then to me its sure as hell not worth the wait.
I will most likely get a Tab this year, and then the Tab2 (or whatever) Q3 2011 with AMOLED screen and a dual-core CPU and so forth.
in simple terms a TFT is way worse when compared to AMOLED
AMOLED is half as good as SAMOLED

yeah, i would love AMOLED but i do not want to wait. will get this tab as soon as it is available. if a tab2 comes out late next year i will just try to sell the tab and use what i get to buy the new version! people seem to be willing to pay a lot of money to not be attached to a contract
Although AMOLED is obviously better, and SAMOLED better still, its not like we're losing much. Yes certain things can certainly make the Tab better, but I imagine that the TFT is to keep price low and to avoid supply problems (isn't there still that shortage of AMOLED stuff ?) since samsung are trying to sell like a hundred billion of them. Ok maybe not that many, but they were saying they wanted to sell plural tens of millions and even if it not going to happen, they'll want to be able to scale production and give a consistent product, not have to change components like the HTC Desire.
I've seen the display on the iPad and its fine, and that same kind of quality is going to be just as good on the Tab. The main competitor (the archos) has a TFT too, so you aren't missing anything by getting a Tab.
We can always wish for better, but in my experience these things go generationally. Next generation of tablets we may well see sexier displays and so forth, and even 8MP cameras and USB Host and stuff, but it'll be a long time before that, and I genuinely can't see Samsung putting out a nearly invisible update to the device before the next gen.

[Q] US Samsung Galaxy Tab Voice Capabilities??
Assuming the Tab will still have a sim card slot, for the AT&T and T-mobile versions, what are the chances of hacking the voice functions to work on a rooted version of these models?? It says it will still have a mic for video calls, and it should still have bluetooth... so do you think these capabilities are just turned off, or have they been removed all together?? I would love to hear from you guys on how we can get around this horrible restriction that the US carriers are trying to lay down.
Anything is possible as long as they didnt physically taken out the 3G chip. I have high faith in the devs. And this is a hack that is definitely worth the effort.
http://www.phonebuff.com/2011/08/nexus-prime-samsung/
There has been a lot of rumors and speculation in regards to Google’s next Nexus phone: The Nexus Prime. Most rumors had it that Samsung was going to be manufacturing the device, like it did the Nexus S. Well, it seems that Samsung’s lawyers may have indirectly confirmed that Samsung will indeed manufacture the Nexus Prime. Here is an excerpt from a cease-and-desist letter Samsung’s lawyers sent to someone:
“It has come to our attention that you are wrongfully in possession of, and intend to release or otherwise publicly disclose without Samsung’s consent, firmware for the Nexus Prime,” the letter said. “By this letter, Samsung orders you to immediate cease, desist, and refrain from any and all such activities.”
So that pretty much says all we need to know. Samsung is making a phone called the Nexus Prime, and “Nexus” is used only for Google’s line of Nexus phones. So what will this baby look like? So far the rumors (which now seem to have more credibility) say:
4.5 (possibly 4.65) inch Super AMOLED display, with 1280×720 (720p) resolution
1.5 GHz dual-core processor
1 GB of RAM
5.0 megapixel advanced camera (remember its not all about the resolution)
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
In other words, this phone looks to be the best Android phone EVER. Will you be patient enough to hold out for it, or will you bite on a Galaxy S phone? I bit last time, getting the Vibrant (but I didn’t know at the time a Nexus S was coming). I loved the Vibrant and all, but I much rather of had the Nexus S (considering how long it takes manufacturers to push out updates). I won’t be making the same mistake twice.
Source: PCMag
ill wait for it to go on sprint by the end of december and if its not here or have a release date for sprint then ill hold off for a better phone..
I think I'll wait out for the Nexus Prime if it is made by Samsung and comes on Sprint. I'll be switching to the 900 minute plan so in roughly 3 months I should be eligible for the Sprint Gold (am I right?). Then I can get a Prime at a discount. Luckily my company pays for my bill up to $10/ month. With my company's Sprint discount of 20%, that gets me right under $100/month.
I'm getting Sprint's Galaxy S2... if the Nexus Prime is that good when it comes out, then I'll pay retail for it and sell the GS2 to recover a little. I keep my phones in immaculate condition anyway, so won't be that bad.
The FCC documents state it's 480x800, which makes it a 480p resolution. It'll still be great, just making sure everyone knows prior to their purchase. It'd suck if you ordered this phone just because it has a 720p screen then out of box it's the same as every other phone on the market.
I was "test driving" the GN in Samsung's flagship store in Sratford on a recent trip. I was very impressed with its abilities and my understanding is that an ICS upgrade is in the works.
Before I make the jump though I'm curious as to any rumours about a Galaxy Note II. It has been out for more than six months and considering Samsung's penchant for new models I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a new model release within a few weeks. Hence, was wondering if anyone here would recommend me to just a little patient?
doubt you will see or hear any rumours for at least 6 months
I wouldn't expect it until late fall. Looks like maybe they'll go S series spring, note series fall. However in the mobile market these is always something better around the corner. Many other makes have leaked info on note competitors that should be coming fall as well. If you can wait until Christmas I bet you'll have several 5"+ choices.
Hi folks,
My contract expires this month and I'm thinking the Galaxy Note is for me. However, I noticed recently that Samsung are hinting at a possible october (EU) release date for the Note 2. I also noticed that there is a good chance it will look similar to the S3, a design which I really do detest, it reminds me of a bar of soap, not to mention it will mean a fair amount of waiting time. But is it really that much different to the original note in terms of power?
I've probably already answered my question here, but what are your thoughts? Anyone else thinking the same?
Seeing there are no specs for a note 2 only assumptions based on the s3 at a larger size how can anyone answer your question.

that we don't know really what the Note 2 will look like or anything else until samsung leaks some infos. Your decision is one of the most easy - if you are eager to get a large screen phone and don't want to wait, go for the Note but if you want the most powerful phone in the Samsung lineup, go for the S3. Personally, the large screen of the Note is worth every money especially if you browse the internet a lot but the design of the S3 is also appealing and you will certainly look cool if you own a recently released device - people will think that this person has a lot of cash to be able to afford such expensive device...haha...lol
I recommend you to hold on, don't buy any Note and keep waiting for Note 4S+.
That will definitely far more advance than the GT-N7000 Note!

The Note is last year's tech. Hold off especially if you are getting locked in for 2 years.
Wait for it, use a dumb phone in the meantime.
The GNote is not maintained by Samsung anymore (LPY bug and Screen Issues).
Wow are we getting GN2?
When?
What is the spec?
However, if you want to wait for GN2 you might need to wait more than a year

I heard Oct 2012. Sorry to be lazy to quote any source, but try googling and see.
I vote to get the S3 Korean version which is Quad Core +2GB of RAM.
Anyway, I think you can sell the S3 without much loss. The resale value should be quite strong?
in your place i would take note and later get note 2, sell note 1 ;D
If they would bring out a note 2 that had the exact same design I'd do it, I really can't get on board with the S3 design though, hate those curves. It really is as if it was designed by their team of lawyers despite what they might say!
I'd get one if i were you. We don't even know for sure that there will be Note 2 - not to mention when.
Not to mention the fact that Note 2 - obviously - will be better, but Note 1 already has everything you would possibly need at the moment.
About Samsung not supporting Note anymore - no offense but that's quite "curious" opinion. We just had 4.0 update, how is that not supporting ? Ok, there are bugs and serious problems but give them time to fix them, don't expect updates after 2 weeks - this is not Apple ( 1 good thing about them i guess ).
Anyway, who cares about Samsung's support if there's CM9
"If they would bring out a note 2 that had the exact same design I'd do it, I really can't get on board with the S3 design though, hate those curves. It really is as if it was designed by their team of lawyers despite what they might say!"
I'm afraid Note 2 might share the "nature-pebblish" design of the S3...
Second good this about apple, and second reason why you OP should wait for GNote 2: http://techpp.com/2011/10/27/sorry-state-of-android-updates-support-infographic/
It's not for everyone but what I usually do (because I am an update freak) is to buy a second hand phone for a good price. Use it until the launch of the new note. And then sell it back for about the same price.
If you do it right you can always have the last technology without spending that much money. The secret is to sell before the new model comes. And to buy after all the first hype is over. It works...
I think if I would personally get the S3 then sells it when the Note2 is out. The S3 resale value will be much higher than the Note 1.
IMO go for the note. You can always trade it in for note 2 when it comes.. S3 isnt worth it. I prefer note to s3 anyday!!!
but if you have a lock in.. then better to wait it out!!
The Note is the most useful/useable phone right now, the Note2 is just an idea still. Get a Note and swap to Note2 later.

What about buying second-hand Note and resell it when Note2 out? That way you won't lose much money and by the mean time you'll know if the note fit you or not.
I'm gonna buy the phone outright from Amazon, so if I change my mind 4 months down the line, I could just return it for the full price I paid (say it's faulty or something, or I don't like it)and then put the rest towards a note 2, couldn't I?
I think Amazon does that just for 30 days .
It would be cool though, as I did buy mine from Amazon, as the price of it new was almost the same as the second hand devices were selling on eBay (crazy).
The price of a Note now is about 430 euros, and the new Note II should start at 650-750 euros, so maybe even if the Note II was out you would have to spend almost 50% more to get one.
If you are getting it for free by staying in a contract, than it might be worth the wait, but otherwise you need to do the calculations.
For me, after I got my Note, and I am with it for just a few weeks I can say that all the news about the bricks, horrible ICS update (slow and without some nice features like the widget preview) and the lack of Samsung to acknowledge that there is a problem and that they are working on it, is making me seriously consider the return of my new toy.
The screen and size are OK for me, but the fact that SG3 is all smooth and nice and G.Note users are left with a buggy and slow OS, when most of us spent way over 450 euros (over 560 USD) on it, is making me mad. Now with the new tool from Chainfire I have discovered that my eMMC chip has the bug that Samsung doesn't want to acknowledge.
Finally the bug that prevents my Note to go into deepsleep, and consumes the battery incredibly fast for idle (about 6%/h) is just unbelievable.
Well I'm sorry for this feedback, but if Samsung does not do something soon, I'll might be searching for a cheap 2nd hand smartphone to let me by until I make my mind on what to buy.
On my way to school today I noticed a Samsung booth in the middle of a prominent subway station in Montreal (Place Bonaventure). They had the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1 on display for people to try out and ask questions. Naturally I asked if they knew when the Jelly Bean update would be coming to Canada and the guy said the following "I think it's rolling out in the USA so it should be coming soon to Canada, but Canada usually gets it after everyone else". Take from that what you will, it's half right.
Hopefully sales of the Note 10.1 are good, encouraging further development from Samsung. I'd really like to see one with better build quality and better note syncing for viewing on a PC.
Marketing spend is typically a percentage of revenue. Based on their $7.4B in profits in Q3 I'd expect to see a lot more aggressive marketing. Their also supposed to be announcing a rebranding in Q1 2013 that's going to cost over $1B. It's purportedly designed to make them seem less "Korean" and more global while at the same time less cold and more approachable. It's good to be king.
It seems to me that the Note 10.1 marketing is falling off and they are focusing more on the Note 2 phablet.
They really need to get JB on the 10.1 to keep up with the market.
I doubt he had any actual info on that statement.
For me, as long as Samsung keeps its promise (JB before the end of the year), I will be happy. To be honest, I am happy with ICS right now and don't have to have JB.
If you observe Samsung marketing stratergy they will market a product very agresively for a month or two and then they movie on to new product, it happened to S3, Tab2, Note10.1 and then Note2 so that has been their market stratergy for all their products.
What is surprising is for the first time Samsung has rebranded its product that means they want to re market the product as they feel there more potential to it
