Hey guys!
So I took your advice, bit the bullet, and rooted my phone despite potentially losing my warranty. One thing that I was hearing around these forums is that 2.3.4 solves a lot of issues, is that true? If so, I would really like to upgrade. Now that I have a rooted phone, is there anything different to go about doing that? Can I upgrade or would I also have to install a customer kernel again? AND if there is one, which one?
Thanks guys!
Shawn
Just flash to 2.3.4, then re-root again like you did before. No difference.
you don't have to root your phone to install official leaked 2.3.4 rom. Root is required only for cooked roms.

Since you have a rooted phone, just use CWM and load a 2.3.4 rom.
Sorry if i am off topic but new here and still confused with the famous root...
My phone is not root yet but thinking to flash to the 2.3.4 thru KIES, so my question is if i upgrade can i go back to 2.3.3 if i don't like it ???
Thanks in advance...

Yes you can downgrade... 2.3.4 is not so different than 2.3.3, however, you can't downgrade via KIES, you have to use Odin and old firmware.
So, now that I have rooted my phone, can I use KIES to upgrade, or do I have to use CWS? I really want that 2.3.4 upgrade after I heard how much better the battery life is with the upgrade.
You can, Kies won't recognize rooted/non-rooted device as long as you are on Stock ROM.
Hmmm, so KIES says that my version of the phone cannot be upgraded...
At this point, what do I do? I've been looking around and can't figure out a few things... Can someone recommend me to the exact ROM I will need to install to get this working? Once I update the ROM, will I have to do another root process? I imagine no, because from what I know, rooting just overrides the kernel, and a ROM comes with a kernel. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Make sure you type *#1234# in the keypad and record down the PDA, Phone and CSC versions before you update. Make sure you are able to find that exact version on Intratech's stock ROM thread. With this, you can flash back to 2.3.3 if you don't like 2.3.4 using Odin without losing any of your data.

You can upgrade either through KIES, CWM or Odin. Personally I prefer Odin because there are many no-wipe stock ROMs out there in a 1 file package suitable for flashing using ODIN.

Type *#1234# in the keypad and post what is written for PDA, Phone and CSC.
Then go to your settings, About phone page and post what your kernel version is.
I have rooted my phone using the same version kernel as my stock ROM and KIES could still update the phone.

Sure here is the info:
PDA: I9100MUGKG2

I rooted my a500 a couple months ago and want to unroot it. I did do a search first before posting and I saw that I can flash it back to stock using the downgrade tools listed in the forums. But a link wasn't provided in that thread and I'm not sure where to find the downgrade tools.
Can someone link me to the downgrade tools or a method to unroot my device?
I'm running android version 4.0.3.
Thanks for your help!

I found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
If i'm reading this correctly i can choose the correct firmware and reinstall it on my device and it will be unrooted in the process. Is that correct?
What about any apps i downloaded before i orignally rooted my device, will i be able redownload those? I dont think i have anything that i need to back up, i dont do much on my tablet except surf the web.
I'm having trouble finding the right root to use for my specific build and software, as well as which ROMs would work. The trouble is this odd BUO part of the software version, which I'm not finding any other mentions of here or elsewhere. So, if someone could point me in the right direction for the root and recommend a ROM I'd be really grateful. Thanks.
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build #: KOT491.D80220b
Software version: D80220b-BUO-xx
There is no root for 4.4.2 yet, only some workarounds involving going back to 4.2.2
You could flash back to 4.2.2 then re-flash with this method for 4.4.2 & root, Its fantastic!

Hey guys, just pulled my nexus 7 out. I want to update it to the latest, but it's been so long since I've used it, I don't know where to begin. Right now here's what it's running:
Android 4.3
Model ME370T
Build CleanROM 4.0.0
Kernel 3.1.10 leankernel grouper 43-2-0-+
Whatever I do, I don't want to lose root etc. I would like to update it to either the latest kitkat if available or Lollipop. Have all the bugs been worked out for the most part with the lollipop roms on this tablet? I've only briefed the threads so far.
Should I just use Wug's Nexus Rootkit to do everything? I just don't want to lose root. I know with my ATT s4 you can lock the bootloader with the later updates and just dont wanna make a mistake.
Trying to keep the tablet as close to stock look as possible, but some cosmetic changes aren't too big a deal to me. Cleanrom was pretty good, but I'll have to research some of the new ones now.
Thanks!

At your state you can't keep root without updating. Best way to upgrade is to get the latest factory image (Lollipop LMY47V) and flash that. After that flash latest trwp and flash supersu zip or flash a rom

Sounds good, thanks for the guidance. I'll follow that path then
Hey guys, here is what I have:
SGH-I337
I337UCUAMF3
Safestrap 4.2.2
I am trying to get one of the newer ROMs loaded onto safestrap but there is a whole new set of terminology and looks like the modules for the MF3 are no longer supported?
Here are a few I was eyeballing:
[ROM]【5.1】【JFLTE-GPE】 - 10 -21 -2015
|ROM|★GOLDENEYE★|►XXUHOD7 LOLLiPOP TW◄|5.1.15|★
[ROM][AOSP] Google Edition S4/ Pure Nexus Edition[SAFESTRAP] April 17th, 2015

Will any of these work if I load up the ROMs or am I S.O.L?

You'll have to update your bootloader and kernel first, but then you can move to either the second or third ROM on that list, though I don't believe either are being updated anymore. All information you should need for updating and even a complete list of ROMs you can run can be found in the General section under the [Index] thread.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I just got a smart watch and it requires an android version past 4.2.2. Do you know how I can go about removing safestrap altogether and going back to stock firmware (so I can upgrade it naturally)?

If you don't mind losing your userdata (be sure to back up anything you want on internal storage) just follow the guides in the index to go back to stock NB1. That's the easiest way, otherwise you'd have to restore any modified system files, unroot, and then try to OTA.
