Hello everyone.
I'm a newbie here.
I am about to flash my Mytouch with a ROM for the 1st time. Now Before I do this I would like to find out how to revert back to the stock ROM.
I've searched the web a little bit and couldn't find much. I only really found how to unroot.
Can someone point me in the right direction please

It depends how you root your phone...gfree method or root.sh via visionary but it shows you how to unroot in the bible section under android development. See link below and scroll down to "UNROOTING"

How would I go about finding/putting the stock ROM back?

Part of the unrooting process is that the stock rom is installed again. Just follow those steps listed in the guide above and you will have s-on again with stock rom. Nothing extra that you need to flash separately.
I have actually rooted with the gfree method, installed a custom rom, unrooted with the guide above (back to s-on and stock rom) and rooted again via root.sh/visionary so I know it works.
Hi,
I've seen that the recommended way to root the 9500 is to flash the Adam kernel, then install CWM to get the SU application only properly and working. Once CWM is on the phone, is it possible to restore the original kernel and still keep root? I'd like to be able to keep the ability to get OTA updates and stay as close to stock as possible (apart from root of course!).
Regards,
Ian

Chainfire root method is available u can use that below is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292615
[GT-I9500] CF-Auto-Root
I guess u need to have root to make CWM work
Also if u want to have OTA I guess u can try installing pre rooted firmware available some where in this forum itself

Thanks for that, I'll try it tonight when I get time.
Can you point me to pre-rooted firmware in this forum? I looked at every thread in the Dev and Original Dev forums and all of them seem customised in some way. All I want at the end of this process (if possible) is a stock, rooted phone. Maybe that might be a better way to go - I'll decide tonight - but I have to find the link first!

Ian

In this very subforum.. Did you even look?

i did a quick search and didnt dig too much. My apologies and thank you.
in the root thread, I didnt read any mention of adding recovery. Does it do that? Or is that a separate install?

TWRP's page has information. Admittedly, I did dig around for a day before I got my G2 to put stuff together to root it, so, there's no one-stop-shop for it all.
Just follow the instructions. After you root, you use the command on the page. Get the latest .img file, do not attempt to get the latest file, which is a zip, and unzip it or something. And of course, get the recovery for your phone.
And type carefully.

my phone keeps telling me that there is an update from att for the phone of 55mb or so. I've tried to download it several times, but it times out apparently after 10% or so.
Do I do that update BEFORE I root? Or can I do it after? I am currently on JB 4.2.2 build JDQ39B
EDIT - I found my answer in another thread. OTA after root = problems. I will retry the update and then root. Is there a way way push the update from the pc somehow?

Hi,
As above, how do i downgrade from 4.3 to 4.22 android? I was on 4.22 Honami rom. I then upgraded to 4.3 honami rom using recovery to flash the new firmware. I have realised that i have lost root access so i want to go back to 4.22 for the time being.
I have read about losing IMEI etc by downgrading so if someone can guide me to the safest method to get back on to 4.22.
This is my first post in a long while so be gentle. If this thread has been opened before than please advise me to it so i can close this one.
Thanks again and look forward to hearing from you lot.
Cheers

I have done it twice, with no issues. Take a nandroid type backup if you are concerned, so you can restore back as it was

not sure if you have reverted yet, but I have root on 4.3
Used SEUS to flash to latest stock FW. (4.3)
Then unlocked bootloader, and flashed CWM using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2588331
Then flashed the latest SuperSU via CWM, and successfully obtained root.

Hey there.
not sure what happened to the link, but yeah, this is the one I used as reference

Thanks to http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4707707 (ERIC-MOD) for guiding me, today I would like to share my experience on how to downgrade the SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 (GT-N8000) from the Samsung official firmware update Android 4.4.2 BACK TO Android 4.1.2
Requirements
-1. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000 (for models like N8010 or N8013 may work also) *NOT A BRICKED ONES
-2. Root access required (For those doesn't know how to root, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv8440QhHsw this guide will help you)
-3. [root] Mobile ODIN Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&hl=en
-4. Note 10.1 GT-N8000 ANDROID 4.1.2 Jellybean Firmware http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=gt-n8000 (If you're having N8010: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=gt-n8010 If you're having N8013: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N8013 ) Make sure to find your own country's firmware (Update: Here's a new link for firmwares: https://samsung-firmware.org/model/GT-N8000/ )
Optional
-Notebook or PC running Windows
-Samsung USB Cable (Use genuine if possible)
It is very good to hear that Samsung had published a new firmware update for Note 10.1, that is the newest Android version (KitKat 4.4.2 update), but it is also very annoying that all the functions we usually used are gone (Example: Screenshot button, S Pen Shortcut Toolbar, Multi Window and so on). It also became very laggy (don't know whether you experience such problem) and can't even multitask anymore. Some of you might not experience that because it depends on how you uses the tablet, but some of you may be regretting why did u update your device......you might be searching for a guide to downgrade it..... And you found this post!
I'm not responsible if you bricked your device or making your device even worse using this tutorial! If you don't think that you are experiencing any problem or actually you liked Android KITKAT more than JELLYBEAN, you have the rights not to downgrade it, I am not forcing you to downgrade your device, its your own choice. Also, YOU ARE TAKING YOUR OWN RISK TO DO THIS BECAUSE YOUR WARRANTY WILL BE VOID!
Let's Get Started
Preparation
1. Make sure your device is ROOTED.
2. Backup all your important data and all your apps, you may use Helium Backup for Android
3. Make sure you have [root] Mobile ODIN Pro installed on your device.
4. Make sure you downloaded the Android 4.1.2 firmware into your device's SD card or internal storage.
*Optional- or download it using PC and transfer to your device.
Main Instruction
1. Launch [root] Mobile ODIN Pro.
2. Grand access with superuser.
3. Mobile Odin Pro requires an add on, so DOWNLOAD IT.
4. Select "Open File... (Open file to archive .tar, .tar.md5, and separate files supported)"
5. Locate to where you downloaded your 4.1.2 firmware.
6. Everything will be automatically done, now just TICK the Wipe date and cache, TICK the Wipe Dalvik cache (as shown in the picture below)
7. Click Flash firmware (please keep in mind your device will factory reset it)
8. Wait for some time and it should be revert back to your BELOVED ANDROID 4.1.2 JELLYBEAN SYSTEM!
It's simple, but only the time matters. So this is how I Downgrade it (Again SUPER THANKS TO http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4707707 MR. ERIC-MOD, without his help, I wouldn't have my device getting downgraded).
This thread shows how he helped me out http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...how-to-downgrade-note10-1-n8000-to-4-t2807106
Hope you guys enjoy this~ If you have any question, or you find that I am wrong, reply me to let me know so that i can update the details~
If I've helped you, please give me a "Thanks" by pressing 'thanks button', or also say thanks to Eric-Mod
Q: Can I use Odin PC version?
A: Sorry, you can't. It might end up soft breaking your device.
Q: Can I downgrade my device to android 4.1.2 with a custom android 4.4.2 rom?
A: It's better not to downgrade using this method as it is used for downgrading from Samsung Official android 4.4.2 firmware to android 4.1.2 firmware, not a custom android 4.4.2 firmware.But...you can still try it if you want to take the risk. (AUG, 3rd, 2014, Tested by a junior member 'johnattas' from XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5092748 , was told that downgrading from a custom rom using this method was a success. More info on page 3, you can find it yourself)
*PS* 1. received a complaint that after downgrading, should not allow Samsung to update itself or else may cause brick.
2. received a complaint that after downgrading, cannot charge the device when it is turned off. Still can charge when turned on.
3. received a private message from andrewjcox telling that the above method had successfully downgraded his Note 10.1 N8020 model. Not sure how he did it on "N8020" device, message him for more info if you need help.
Note: I will keep updating this thread for more detailed tutorial. (Discontinued)
Note! 10th of June, 2016 I will no longer provide supports to this tutorial., Chances of worsening your device are low I would say, you can still use the tutorial but it is your own RISK to do that.

You want to update to the samsung official update kitkat? I recommend you don't update, it's laggy, some of key features has gone, and this is why i posted this thread for downgrading back to 4.1.2 jellybean.
Root also lets you to have more options to modify your tablet... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv8440QhHsw This is a very simple way to root it.
Please tell me if I had misunderstood what you have said and by the way it is not really possible to revert bootloader as i can't find any tutorial for this until now.

Well... I did not know there was a problem with downgrading from 4.4.2, so I casually flashed a custom 4.0.4 ROM and then a custom 4.1.2 ROM. So far, there has been nothing wrong with my N8000, but seeing this worried me a bit. Am I supposed to do anything else?

Same here. I was on official 4.1.2 with root and custom recovery and did a nandroid backup before I upgraded to official 4.4.2 the other day.
The custom recovery got replaced with stock recovery after the upgrade so I reflashed it (the custom recovery) in Odin 3.09. I then booted into custom recovery and restored the nandroid for my 4.1.2 backup.
Everything is working just fine, no charging issues with the screen on or off.

Hope you can help me. Thanks in advance

You can downgrade without rooting. There is one possibility to downgrade without rooting your note 10.1. The method involves downloading stock 4.1.2 rom from sammobile and then removing bootloader files from it then u can flash that modified file with pc odin easily.
