So I had to send my phone in to HTC to get it repaired. Ended up being told it was an issue with the motherboard, so they had to replace that. In another thread I was told the motherboard would also replace my eMMC chip.
I don't have a warranty through T-Mobile, so I can't get that, and I was told HTC extends the warranty for another 90 days.
If I do end up getting the bad eMMC, will HTC replace the phone for free (if it fails)?
Thanks
They should, but be wary as they charge like a 30$ fee if they just receive it then send it back

Quick question, my phone yesterday started to get ghost pixels richy in the middle of the screen, so I called tmobile to get a new phone but my question is should I unroot it or keep it the rooted?
I know the law was passed to were you can legally root your phone but I want sure if I returned my phone to tmobile and they saw s-off that they would charge me 400 bucks to pay for the phone cause it wasn't stock. Thanks for your help.

Unroot just to be safe. It might cost you $400 for something that takes 10 mins max to do. I would if I was sending it in.
There's a law allowing rooting? Really?
Take the time and return it stock. I have sent some back rooted and custom rom but luck does run out.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Its not illegal to root, however its also not illegal for them to void your warranty for it. And it shouldn't be 400 more like 200.

So I'm confused as to how the warranty works for the mytouch. I've read a few things about the t mobile warranty but looked in the handbook that came with the phone and it said that there was no such warranty. How long are the htc and tmobile warranties and which do you think is easier to claim? I read that the t mobile one allowed you to keep your phone which would be preferable. Btw I'm trying to replace my phone because there is dust under the screen. Thanks for any information.

HTC charges freight one way and turns warenty work in a week or so. T-Mobile is an online claim Co. They charge 75 if you don't return the phone, least that's what they told me when I swapped out my wife's g1 for a g2 after she dropped it and broke the screen. There was also s 100 dollar deductible for the swap but it beats a new contract ...

Hello, I traded my vibrant for a mytouch 4g on craigslist this week and I noticed the colors seemed really dull compared to my vibrant. Although I realize the vibrant has a much better screen, I have become aware of the bad displays that a lot of mytouchs have. My question is can i get a replacement from tmobile or am i stuck with this screen?
Since you didnt buy the phone from tmobile, you'll be able to replace it but not for free. You will have to pay a deductable.

The only phone u can replace or even talk to T-Mobile about is the one u purchased from them...phones bought on eBay/Craigslist/anything else won't work....its the phone u put insurance on

What I think that couptastic was referring to was that HTC provides warranty service on their products. They're easy to deal with and straight forward with you.

Hey guys... I'm rooted but my charging port happen to break... Should I unroot my evo before taking it in for insurance replacement? I was thinking of just dropping it in water? What should I do?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Yes you should unroot just to be smart about it.
Why would you drop it in water?
So you have to pay the $100 deductible?!?
Either way I think I will pay the 100 dollars... I don't believe I have factory warranty....

You pay the $8 a month right?
That covers manufacturer defects.
Unless they see physical damage, they will cover it.

If you did not physically break the soldering pads off of the board then a sprint repair center will replace your phone for free. If you did then they will tell you to file a claim.

it's not a short term fix, but buy an external charger with a couple of extra batteries from China for $20. It will take a few weeks to get, but I never charge my phone, just switch batteries.
I do pay the insurance fee a month.... Now I'm looking to see where I can find the link to unroot my phone.... does anyone have it handy.... I used unrevoked... I think that was the name of it....

Can't you just open the phone and carefully solder the charging port back on? It should not be too difficult and you'll save a lot of time.

It's not that easy with the tiny boards on cell phones. You would have to be an expert at soldering and have specialized soldering equipment.
Charging port broke on mine also... Called Sprint to ask to replace it. You need to be stern when talking with the rep, this is a known defect of the EVO. And they will replace it at no charge as they did for me. I unrooted and had a replacement within 3 days. Hope this helps.

Sprint changed their service thing, They will service rooted phones.
Just don't expect them to still be rooted.

Unfortunately everyone's experience varies based on the store...even since the policy change.
Since unrooting takes only a few minutes its worth doing.

The port will move reguardless of which condition your port is in. The only way to know for sure is to open up the phone. Which a sprint repair center will do for free for you since you have tep.

When I had my evo I had the same problem I called it in and had them send me one.

I returned 2 phones to a repair center and all I did was flash a rooted stock rom and they replaced two phones due to a charging port no questions asked
My charging port broke, unfortunately my battery was so low I couldn't unroot. Luckily the guy at the sprint store was nice enough to work with me on it anyway and replaced free. He said that they weren't supposed to repair rooted HTC phones (for whatever reason). So hope that you're able to unroot and avoid the hassle.
My charging port also broke. So I took it to my local sprint store and they told me to return it to stock condition and come back. So I hopped on xda and downloaded a couple of things and unrooted it right in front of him on the spot.
I suspected the guy behind the counter didn't mind too much since he was showing me his rooted EVO running CM7. I should have my new phone in a couple of days.

I've recently notice dust under my screen and at first I just ignored it but it has gotten worst over time. Now I've had this phone since July (2011) that makes it under a year so I can still have a warranty exchange right? Now would they replace it with a mytouch 4g or would they offer me other types of phones like a mytouch 4g slide? My other question is if they offer me a different types of phones which ones should I not fall for and which ones should I think about I really like the mytouch 4g cause of development so I hope they just replace it and is it better to call or go straight to the store what would be faster? Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
I'm not sure that dust under the screen would warrant for a warranty exchange. Anyways, warranty exchanges are for same phone only. I've tried asking for a different phone when I had a Blackberry since I had so many problems. I think I had a good 4 or 5 exchanges in the first year I had it.
nope, actually, a lot of times they offer you a different phone, saying that their MT4G's are "out of stock".
this is just my opinion but,
MT4G Slide: good
LG G2X: eh good enough, your choice if you want a duo core, then choose that
Samsung Sidekick: DEF no way
Samsung Galaxy S: NO WAY, MT4G OWNS THE GALAXY S
HTC Sensation: if you're lucky, then of course, TAKE IT!
hope this helps... those are the phones i've heard of before being a replacement for the MT4G.
Thanks! now I have an idea. Also would it be free for a warrenty exchange?

Yes, warranty exchange is free, BUT you have to pay for the shipping and handling. If I remember correctly, it's $9.99 for 5-7 business days -or- $19.99 for 2-3 business days.
They can be jerks at customer service so be mindful.
They told me that they'd waive the shipping fee because my phone broke within 30 days of buying it.
I've only had the phone for 4 total months now since the original purchase and I'm on my 4th one because the warranty phones are all refurbished junk that someone else sent back. And they are still trying to charge me the $20 shipping fee on each one, after saying they've waived it.
The last one I got was broken out of the box. Had to do a factory reset just to get it to power on. I sent it back, and now they want to add another fee for not accepting it.
When you ask to speak to a customer service supervisor, don't believe their BS story about how their manager just walked into a meeting and they'll call you back. It's a lie. I've asked for supervisors 3 times in this process at various times of the day and amazingly....each time the supervisor had 'just walked into a meeting' like it was being read off a script.
None of them ever called me back.
So they will lie to your face. Don't take any of the BS from the customer service reps. Tell them your phone is unusable because of poor manufacturing and that you're not going to accept anything other than a replacement. Then be aware that you will NOT get a new MT4G. If you stick with the MT4G you WILL get a refurbished POS.
Wow thanks now I'm having second thoughts. I went to the t mobile store instead and they where nice about they said they would replace with a other my4g and said it would be new but I know that's bs now.
Also do you really need to unroot your phone? I just have the stock Rom with non apps that require root permissions? I've heard of people just returning it like that with no problem just want verify. Thanks
