ICS PASSION V12 wifi tethering fix - Vibrant General

Hi everyone ive been having some issues with my wifi tethering on the passion rom v12 i saw somewhere to set the settings to the configuration of the nexus but i dont have a clue how to get this done any suggestions???
i pick up signal from the phone but i dont connect for some reason and this happens with the tethering app barnacle open garden and the built in tethering option on the rom

Deep sleep issue, i guess
check if your the "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" is still active.
I'm guessing that your processor went into "Deep Sleep" state and caused problem with the hotspot and disabled it. A reboot can fix the problem.

Yeah ive had ICS passion for a good month now ive gone through 3 versions and i cant seem to find a way to fix this issue reflashed v12 twice rebooted numerous times and it still doesnt work i have no idea what the problem is but i hope someone has an answer for cause im on the road alot

change the thread title to represent it as a question. Otherwise this is just link bait. While your at it through this in the q&a section.

I read somewhere that if you boot with wifi off, then run tethering app it will work.

[SOLVED] Wifi issues

Um, Hi. I'm pretty new to this. So I just flashed the froyo rom 6.0.2.1 yesterday, and it worked perfectly fine. I'm just wondering if the wifi is one of the known bugs to it, or is it just me experiencing it. Well the thing is, I'm trying to connect to my wifi, but it only says "obtaining IP address from ___________" or" scanning" and it just stays like that. Is there any settings that I have to change or is it a bug? Thanks =]
I have the same issue, and I believe it is a known bug. Mine will connect every now and then, but mostly not. You may want to disable your wifi if your battery starts dying too quickly. I know this doesn't solve your problem, but hope it helps to know that you aren't alone in your wifi woes.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I got it fixed! Try looking up Hidden SSID Enabler from the Market, and first turn off your wifi. then the program on. then turn on the wifi. After that, put in your SSID. That should work.
Hopefully it works for everyone!

'Cause he said he's new to this. Give him a break. YOu come on here just to say that. If you don't like it being here, well no one made you enter the thread.
As for the Hidden SSID, I can confirm it works.

[Q] How to allow incoming TCP connections (WebDroid, SSHDroid, etc.)?

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows how to make Android open the ports necessary for incoming connections for server apps to work without having to ping the client first under su?
Or failing that, is there a way to run a script that will ping the client IP instead of having to run the command by hand in terminal?
Thanks!

Second that! Something's off in 99/100 ROMS, TCP doesn't seem to do anything. Only one Sense ROM by cotulla seems to work.
I disabled the adblocking hosts file to test if it had anything to do with it (e.g. SSHDroid doesn't work with it) but that didn't help anything either
Agreed, does not seem to work on any rom I've tried, only Cotulla's 'Stock Desire' Sense build seems to work (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620).
Too bad Sense's so completely dire, otherwise I'd use that. I want CyanogenMOD.
Having the same question. I am sure here must be someone who knows how to enable inbound connections....
Little update:
I noticed it is possible for me to ping and use all services when using the gateway to access everything, in my case the access point/wifi router.
So it looks like this is some kind of routing/firewall issue but I can't find anything about default blocking or firewalling on android...
Good news. I found out what is causing this on almost every build.
It has something to do with the stock wifi tethering. If you try and enable it in almost every rom it will fail, but now turn on your wifi again and everything works as it would normally do!
The build it does work on also has working stock wifi tethering, so that explains that...
For now it's good to have this workaround and I hop to have a proper fix in the future
im using RAFDROID 3.0 and i dont think i have this problem at all. I tried SwiFTP and it connected without any issues.
Try to update the busybox version mine is 1.15.2

I tried this on Frankinstine's awesome ROM, but no cigar. There has to be a firewall rule or setting we can tweak to allow this kind of traffic...

It works for me, but it's not 100% foolproof. It seems to work for a while, but not permanently. However, it's still better than the ping method. The ping method would never work for me, since I use Wifi at least 4 different places a week. Even when done automatically, how would I know what to ping on what Wifi network?! Random DHCP on workstations notwithstanding...
This does it for me:
turn on normal Wifi
wait around 10 seconds (for Wifi to 'start')
turn on Wifi hotspot (normal wifi should turn it self off automatically)
wait around 20 seconds (the hotspot takes a while to 'start', it actually fails (error) for me, but still does the trick)
turn normal Wifi on again
At that point it "works" for me, at least for a while.
At the very least this seems to indicate that the broken Wifi hotspot and this problem are related -- on Cotulla's build (where stock Wifi hotspot WORKS), this problem is non-existent.
Unfortunatly your steps do not work for me :-(

That's unlucky. Those steps seem to "work" for me on CleanDroid 1.30. Maybe we can just hope it works again when the stock wifi hotspot is fixed.
Alternate "solution":
Get Cotulla's "Stock Desire" ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
It definitely works on that. Too bad sense is dog****, and your battery will last for a day max.

Just tried this and it worked. As soon as I started the wifi the second time my computer started pinging HD2.
My usual procedure for fixing this was to start wifi, see assigned IP address and then ping my computer from 'Net Ping' app. This can be faster sometimes.
Is there a way to port hotspot from Cotulla's build to a nonSense build? No way for me to come back to sense again

Don't know, it's probably in the kernel, so shouldn't be too difficult, but then again, I haven't really got a clue about building ROMs.

Hey guys,
I did a search and I even clicked on all five threads that came up when I typed in the title of my this thread. All the treads either did not get a reply like three of the five that popped up plus others I found, or they said do a restore from a old Nandroid backup or reflash the ROM. So I have tried both of these suggestions, which frankly I know to try these things myself, I have tried fix permissions in CWM also. Anyway i am still having my issue.
I am using HyperDroid -CM7-v2.0.1 with cLK as you can see in my sig. I have not had any trouble using the WiFi Tethering feature in the settings of the ROM until yesterday. My laptop will show connected but say no internet connection no matter what. I downloaded Barnacle WiFi Tether app from the Android Market and it works, I am using it right now. But the built in WiFi Tether works sooooooo much better then the Barnacle app does.
Is there some settings on my HD2 or my computer I should check into?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated, this is driving me crazy.
Thanks to all that respond.
Sincerely,
T-Macgnolia

Edit: I updated my Superuser app and my issue just disappeared completely. I know it was something I was not thinking about checking and never thought about the Superuser app being out dated or incompatible. You can also update your Superuser app by just looking it up in the Android Market.
Check out post #5 for more on what I did to solve my problem.

I don't know why it stopped since it was working before. Anyways, you could a different wireless tether app. I have wireless tether 2.0.8 pre1 and it works perfectly. In my opinion, it works far better than the Barnacle Wireless tether app.

Thanks for the response thenew. I don't really understand why it stopped working either. It shows connected but with no internet access. The Barniclewill give me internet access but even with my HD2 setting no more than two feet from my laptop it only has 1 to 2 bars on the WiFi signal strength indicator. I just downloaded and installed Wireless Tether v2.0.7 and I am going to try ig when I get home later. I have checked everything I can check on my HD2 and my laptop and nothing will get the built in hptspot to working again. I will post back here later when I test the Wireless Tether app.
Sorry double post.
Fixed my issue.
Ok guys Update time, and it is good news.
I got home and was going to try the WiFi Tether app and the first time I opened the app. It gave me a message saying that the app was for rooted devices only, and asked if my device was rooted. So this made me stop and think for a second, I said to myself....................
Hmmmmmmm, know i know my ROM is rooted. So there must be something wrong with my Superuser app like maybe out of date or incompatible for some weird reason. Maybe if I update my Superuser app it will fix it.

So I went straight to ROM Manager and opened it, selected Download ROM then selected Extras, and last I choose Superuser 2.3.6.1 ef and let it instal the app for me(sorry did not check the previous version number before insta0l. When my HD2 restarted from installing the updated Superuser app, I thought.................
You know I wonder if the superuser is what might be wrong with the built in Hot Spot function. I better try it out and see what it does.

[Q] Very slow wifi

Hi i have very slow wifi on my u8800. I use Aurora ICS 4.03 Version 1.6. I have wipe when I install the ROM. I tried to download wifianalyser from market and it isent finished after 10 min (500k file). If I send a 1 mb file with wifi file explore it takes 5-10 min. Anybody know what the problem is?
Having the same problem..
Tried to flash an older stock .35 kernel ROM, and then Aurora ICS, but did not help.. Wonder what the problem is.. Doe's not seem like other people have wifi issues..
Running Aurora ICS 1.11
Yeap, mine too extremely slow to a point that it says that the connection has timed out. Lets hope its an easy fix for dzo because I can understand the man works hard to keep the updates rolling day after day.
Testing wifi at my parents house, on a d-link DIR-615, and it works like a charm..
Wonder why it wont work on the other ones i have tried..
bcus our wifi card is a cheap piece of sheat
it doesnt work on all modems and even if it works its not fast at all
Slow wifi
Hi, is there any solution to the slow wifi problem yet? Also, my wifi doesnt always disconnect so its doesnt auto switch to 3G/HSPA when I leave the hostspot area. Its almost as if it stays conected even if the hotspot is not broadcasting. I read in on the forum somewhere there are files you can try restore too check if its better but I cant seem to find the post now.
Thanks

If you are talking about the CM10.1 that just had the wifi fixed then this issue needs to be reported to the developer. The developer needs to fix this issue.

but how to report? I can't able to post any comment on Android development
I just read your first post more carefully.
The wifi was fixed by dzo. He fixed the wifi the same way he fixed wifi in Aurora ICS. Your wifi problem is also in Aurora.
The best you can do is to flash the ROM (v5 with wifi) again (do a clean install). If it still doesn't fix that problem, then tell me and I will report the problem to developer.
Thanks.

Okay, I went back to Aurora V5U21 and flashed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24412002&postcount=3379
the patched WLAN configuration. Everything seems work great except I set the WiFi always on but when screen off still WiFi will off, but everytime it off it will autoconnect itself without reopen the WiFi.
And also I installed a clean CM10.1 V5, and used like 1 or 2hour then the WiFi icon remain blue but without updown arrow then awhile become grey and won't auto reconnect anymore, just stay grey there until I reopen WiFi. Is not a big problem but sometimes I open WiFi wait for Whatsapp or other social apps. I don't know when it disconnect.

Same here
I too experience wifi not comnnecting after sleep mode... and When connected to USB mode.. the transfer rate is around 170 kbps... Anyone hav this problem??
I have sent a message to the developer. Now, I am not sure if he will fix this problem or not. I think he will fix it because a lot of people on the development thread are talking about this issue as well.
Since we are talking about CM10.1 wifi issues, I'll state mine too.
I installed CM10.1 v7 on my U8800, everything looked ok, apart from the wifi. I could see all networks around me but the phone couldn't connect to anyone.
The same issue was present in aurora 5v20 but flashing the alt wpa supplicant fixes the problem.
I tried using the same file in CM10.1, the wifi connected but only my home's router was visible ( I should be able to see at least 5 more routers) I could not see nor connect to any other network.
Anyone know why does this happen?
