Um, Hi. I'm pretty new to this. So I just flashed the froyo rom 6.0.2.1 yesterday, and it worked perfectly fine. I'm just wondering if the wifi is one of the known bugs to it, or is it just me experiencing it. Well the thing is, I'm trying to connect to my wifi, but it only says "obtaining IP address from ___________" or" scanning" and it just stays like that. Is there any settings that I have to change or is it a bug? Thanks =]
I have the same issue, and I believe it is a known bug. Mine will connect every now and then, but mostly not. You may want to disable your wifi if your battery starts dying too quickly. I know this doesn't solve your problem, but hope it helps to know that you aren't alone in your wifi woes.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I got it fixed! Try looking up Hidden SSID Enabler from the Market, and first turn off your wifi. then the program on. then turn on the wifi. After that, put in your SSID. That should work.
Hopefully it works for everyone!

Can anyone direct to the latest wifi router cab. I installed the wifi cab i have attached on my sticky to a phone with the latest upgrades (tmo rom update) but it didn't work. I know I've had the same one stuck on there for some time, but thought it still worked. If anyone could provide with the link or cab that would be great. I tried a search on both the US and overseas forum but no solid leads. I even installed what I thought was the latest one but it could find it on the phone even after doing a search. Thanks in advance. I'll also be posting the cab in my sticky to others to use.
Hey man, here's the one I've been using all along. I could never get the one you had in your sticky to work right, but I thought others had been able to.
This one still works fine for me, but I admit I haven't yet tested it on the newer (2.13) stock ROM.

I think I tested this one out yesterday. It would say it was successfully installed but I couldn't find it. I searched almost every folder in the phone and couldn't find it. Then I installed my sticky wifi cab and it started up just fine and computer said it was connected to the phone. But, it would never connect to a page. I'll test it out again. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Thanks for the cab.

No prob! The link I have in my start menu for this is just called "Wifi Internet Sharing.lnk" (I don't remember exactly if I had to manually put it there or not), but the file it points to is actually "/Windows/CMInternetSharing.exe", so look for that if you don't find it anywhere else

Hmmm nope....I have it installed now and regular wifi still works great. Are you using the HTC wifi sharing cab, or kurniawan's CMinternet sharing cab?
Does wifi work before you run the wifi sharing app, but then not after? Or does it stop working as soon as you install the sharing cab?

Well here is how it goes. At both work and home I have a wifi router and typically if I feel like dl large files or streaming vids faster and better I connect to wifi. Well when I installed the HTC wifi sharing cab my friend with an iphone was able to connect to wifi signal and use it like that. but when I got home I hit the wifi quinklink and it was just spinning and spinning and never actually connects again. I unistalled three minutes later I was back on my home wifi router...It has always had the result not matter what Cab i tried.
I was using the HTC Wifi Sharing cab and having similar problems. I could do the Wifi Router thing, but then my normal Wifi wouldn't work. One thing that was happening was that my phone's MAC address was getting deleted from my router's MAC Filter permitted list. Another thing was that even after un-installing the CAB, my Wifi recognized itself as an available network, and tried to connect...
A hard reset eventually fixed that.
I've installed the 'K' version that Sir Phunkee recommended, and every works perfectly now...

Hey bud...sorry, I lost this thread for a bit
Actually, I do seem to remember that when I first installed the cab and ran the wifi sharing, my regular wifi wouldn't connect again until I soft-reset...but that's the most it would take to get working again. I haven't been around any other devices in the past 48 hours that I could use to test that again, but I'll do it as soon as I am and let you know (I think it doesn't happen like that anymore, but I want to check before I say that)

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows how to make Android open the ports necessary for incoming connections for server apps to work without having to ping the client first under su?
Or failing that, is there a way to run a script that will ping the client IP instead of having to run the command by hand in terminal?
Thanks!

Second that! Something's off in 99/100 ROMS, TCP doesn't seem to do anything. Only one Sense ROM by cotulla seems to work.
I disabled the adblocking hosts file to test if it had anything to do with it (e.g. SSHDroid doesn't work with it) but that didn't help anything either
Agreed, does not seem to work on any rom I've tried, only Cotulla's 'Stock Desire' Sense build seems to work (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620).
Too bad Sense's so completely dire, otherwise I'd use that. I want CyanogenMOD.
Having the same question. I am sure here must be someone who knows how to enable inbound connections....
Little update:
I noticed it is possible for me to ping and use all services when using the gateway to access everything, in my case the access point/wifi router.
So it looks like this is some kind of routing/firewall issue but I can't find anything about default blocking or firewalling on android...
Good news. I found out what is causing this on almost every build.
It has something to do with the stock wifi tethering. If you try and enable it in almost every rom it will fail, but now turn on your wifi again and everything works as it would normally do!
The build it does work on also has working stock wifi tethering, so that explains that...
For now it's good to have this workaround and I hop to have a proper fix in the future
im using RAFDROID 3.0 and i dont think i have this problem at all. I tried SwiFTP and it connected without any issues.
Try to update the busybox version mine is 1.15.2

It works for me, but it's not 100% foolproof. It seems to work for a while, but not permanently. However, it's still better than the ping method. The ping method would never work for me, since I use Wifi at least 4 different places a week. Even when done automatically, how would I know what to ping on what Wifi network?! Random DHCP on workstations notwithstanding...
This does it for me:
turn on normal Wifi
wait around 10 seconds (for Wifi to 'start')
turn on Wifi hotspot (normal wifi should turn it self off automatically)
wait around 20 seconds (the hotspot takes a while to 'start', it actually fails (error) for me, but still does the trick)
turn normal Wifi on again
At that point it "works" for me, at least for a while.
At the very least this seems to indicate that the broken Wifi hotspot and this problem are related -- on Cotulla's build (where stock Wifi hotspot WORKS), this problem is non-existent.
Unfortunatly your steps do not work for me :-(

That's unlucky. Those steps seem to "work" for me on CleanDroid 1.30. Maybe we can just hope it works again when the stock wifi hotspot is fixed.
Alternate "solution":
Get Cotulla's "Stock Desire" ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
It definitely works on that. Too bad sense is dog****, and your battery will last for a day max.

Just tried this and it worked. As soon as I started the wifi the second time my computer started pinging HD2.
My usual procedure for fixing this was to start wifi, see assigned IP address and then ping my computer from 'Net Ping' app. This can be faster sometimes.
Is there a way to port hotspot from Cotulla's build to a nonSense build? No way for me to come back to sense again

Don't know, it's probably in the kernel, so shouldn't be too difficult, but then again, I haven't really got a clue about building ROMs.

I just wanted to share a "fix" that i found recently to avoid this problem.
I use the app WiFi Static, this app sets several static ip profiles (you have to add them) and switches to the right one automatically, avoiding the obtaining ip address problem, while allowing you to connect to several networks using a static ip.
Sometimes it takes a little longer to make the switch (in busy hot spots) but still works. I've only done some tests but for me this app was a great solution.
I encourage you to try it since for me this was the major problem i had with my cell.
Hope this helps others,
Cheers.
Edit: I'm very thankful for the "Thank you" but if you guys could also leave a comment i think this thread would help more people. Thnks
Good thread!
I also suggested Wifi Static several times before.
It worked great on Android OS v2.1 and v2.2, but on v2.2.1 I had troubles to automatically change the IP address.
Now I'm using IP Manager, with this app you have to make a widget/icon on the home screen and manually change the IP by taping on a profile (static/dynamic).
For me this app is better than Wifi Static.
I had the WiFi "error" message problem upon switching WiFi on in some places.
If I want to connect to a public WiFi network (with a dynamic IP) I first need to select a static IP profile from the list (so the WiFi is turned on thru this app) and then the dynamic IP profile, else there is a great chance I could get the WiFi "error" message after trying to connect for several minutes.
Hope this helped anybody!
I (luckily) rarely get that error,
but thanks for leaving here another option,if anyone has your problem they know how to workaround it now.
Thanks for the reply.
thanks for ur fix
lulz - just make fix permmisions in advanced cwm menu =) if not i will hopefully find the thread where i mentioned the proper fix and paste it here

But still thanks for the link.

so stick to fix permissions in cwm advanced this should work also and does not include flashing
this bug does not apear on nonrooted phones so anyone having this issue must be rooted -> flashed something already so one way flash my file other way try with advanced menu
your workaround is worthless basicly, will make it connect but every time youll have to set the connection up its like buying a ferrari to push it down the streets coz you dont want the engine to be used =)
Ok, it's weird because this happens to me and my 2.2 rom it's completely stock, no root or flashing involved.
I'm sticking with my fix since it works without any problem so for me no need to do anything else.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
if it is stuck on "obtaining ip adress" its most likley the system files are 'messed up' like i like to say - in this case it is some permissions problem but hey free world stick to yours =) goodday sir ;d

FALSE. My phone has never been flashed before nor has it been rooted and I have the "Obtaining IP address" bug. After doing some google search, it looks to me that this is a known problem.
Right now I'm just using the AllShare workaround which has worked well for me so far.

Thanks for the support,
I also used allshare for a while (thanks for leaving that fix here) but it started to be annoying to turn on the app everytime i wanted to use the wifi.
This does everything automatically and I don't see any background service so it can't be using much mem.

what stock fw do you use that produces such problem?
This is a screen with my firmware specifications.
Hi guys.
I have an issue with WiFi in this WP7 ROM. They say that you can fix it by lowering the channel of your router, and there are 2 fixes (CAB packages) that are supposed to fix wifi or something.
My problem is that, even after applying the fixes and lowering my router channel I am STILL unable to enter my network. My problem before was that I cannot see the network at all, but lowering the channel seemed to fix that. However now I can see, but not Join my network. It is password secured and it is NOT mac filtered.
My router channel is 1
I have tried both fixes and neither have worked
I have hard reset countless times
I have run task 29 countless times and reflashed
WiFi works in neither 7004 or 7720
Funny thing is, that for a very short period of time I got the WiFi to Work and that was when I first lowered my channel to 1. I have tried several channels, but NONE worked. In the begining when I flashed the ROM for the first time ever WiFi worked, I upgraded to mango, and when I activated the Live services it stopped working (after a reboot). The next time I got it to work was when I lowered the channel of the router to 1.
This is weird and I don't know what to do. I could not find anyone with my problem anywhere!
P.S. The messege I get is something like: Your phone couldn't connect to the network Gratis Internett (my network) because there was no response from the network.
Same problem here.
My device don't detect Home Wi-FI, only the neighbors wi-fi.
Strange Think.
Sometimes, I Restarted de reuter... to detect and connect without problem. But if for any reason I turn wi-fi off... i've to restart... and restar again.
I apply the WI-FI fix EU. No difference

It might be that your wifi is faster than your phone. Don't know if it helps but if you install advanced config you can add a 3G toggle, and enable wifi n mode, but DO NOT try to prevent phone from relocking (you will lose all xaps)

Even if you said you have no mac filtiering, it seems to has something to do with the changing mac 'cause that's what changes after a hd2 reboot...
Does your router have an option that sets a maximum number of cennected clients? - 'cause it maybe calculates the number based on the mac...

Now that's a whole different thing. Since the router is our Home router, I don't have 100% control over it (I'm the 14 year old son ^^) and my dad knows that. I'll ask and tell you what I find out. Thanks for this suggestion.

Hmm, I'm sure you did it already but have you tried some other wifi devices? Or another OS on your phone (Android,WinMo)?
The issue is quite confusing... Anyway, the last option I can think of is to reflash wp7...

I have had and I currently do have Android on my Device. It's WP7 that makes the issue, not the device. It works like a charm on cyanogenmod7!
I found a solution for this.. the issue here is not the phone.. the issue was the router. the best way to end this issue is to reset the configuration of your router.
Hi everyone ive been having some issues with my wifi tethering on the passion rom v12 i saw somewhere to set the settings to the configuration of the nexus but i dont have a clue how to get this done any suggestions???
i pick up signal from the phone but i dont connect for some reason and this happens with the tethering app barnacle open garden and the built in tethering option on the rom
Deep sleep issue, i guess
check if your the "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" is still active.
I'm guessing that your processor went into "Deep Sleep" state and caused problem with the hotspot and disabled it. A reboot can fix the problem.
Yeah ive had ICS passion for a good month now ive gone through 3 versions and i cant seem to find a way to fix this issue reflashed v12 twice rebooted numerous times and it still doesnt work i have no idea what the problem is but i hope someone has an answer for cause im on the road alot
