Can anyone direct to the latest wifi router cab. I installed the wifi cab i have attached on my sticky to a phone with the latest upgrades (tmo rom update) but it didn't work. I know I've had the same one stuck on there for some time, but thought it still worked. If anyone could provide with the link or cab that would be great. I tried a search on both the US and overseas forum but no solid leads. I even installed what I thought was the latest one but it could find it on the phone even after doing a search. Thanks in advance. I'll also be posting the cab in my sticky to others to use.
Hey man, here's the one I've been using all along. I could never get the one you had in your sticky to work right, but I thought others had been able to.
This one still works fine for me, but I admit I haven't yet tested it on the newer (2.13) stock ROM.

I think I tested this one out yesterday. It would say it was successfully installed but I couldn't find it. I searched almost every folder in the phone and couldn't find it. Then I installed my sticky wifi cab and it started up just fine and computer said it was connected to the phone. But, it would never connect to a page. I'll test it out again. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Thanks for the cab.

No prob! The link I have in my start menu for this is just called "Wifi Internet Sharing.lnk" (I don't remember exactly if I had to manually put it there or not), but the file it points to is actually "/Windows/CMInternetSharing.exe", so look for that if you don't find it anywhere else

Hmmm nope....I have it installed now and regular wifi still works great. Are you using the HTC wifi sharing cab, or kurniawan's CMinternet sharing cab?
Does wifi work before you run the wifi sharing app, but then not after? Or does it stop working as soon as you install the sharing cab?

Well here is how it goes. At both work and home I have a wifi router and typically if I feel like dl large files or streaming vids faster and better I connect to wifi. Well when I installed the HTC wifi sharing cab my friend with an iphone was able to connect to wifi signal and use it like that. but when I got home I hit the wifi quinklink and it was just spinning and spinning and never actually connects again. I unistalled three minutes later I was back on my home wifi router...It has always had the result not matter what Cab i tried.
I was using the HTC Wifi Sharing cab and having similar problems. I could do the Wifi Router thing, but then my normal Wifi wouldn't work. One thing that was happening was that my phone's MAC address was getting deleted from my router's MAC Filter permitted list. Another thing was that even after un-installing the CAB, my Wifi recognized itself as an available network, and tried to connect...
A hard reset eventually fixed that.
I've installed the 'K' version that Sir Phunkee recommended, and every works perfectly now...

Hey bud...sorry, I lost this thread for a bit
Actually, I do seem to remember that when I first installed the cab and ran the wifi sharing, my regular wifi wouldn't connect again until I soft-reset...but that's the most it would take to get working again. I haven't been around any other devices in the past 48 hours that I could use to test that again, but I'll do it as soon as I am and let you know (I think it doesn't happen like that anymore, but I want to check before I say that)

Hmm. Perhaps there is a reason T-Mo didn't include it. I was thinking of installing it, but now I think I won't.
One can after all, tether with USB and BT.

Anybody used the wi-fi router option on the hd2 to connect their pc to internet? I have startet the application and it says running, but no wi-fi router is found on mine or my colleagues computers. I tried the same thing with the wifi hotspot app for iphone, and that worked as a charm.
Just wondering if anyone else has got it working at all?

I've connected 2 notebook without problems!
Well, now it works like a dream! Dont know what was wrong earlier today, but a couple soft restarts seems to have made it work!
thanks for all replies
Mine's an O2 phone that came without the WiFi Router app installed on the ROM. I downloaded and installed Tom Condon's HTC WiFi cab from and it works well. The only thing that I don't have (yet) is the shortcut to the WiFi Router app from the Comm Manager interface.

Is this the one from the Bowman Pack? I have installed this and it doesn't work. Can you give a link to the cab you installed? Ta!
*Edit....this *does* work but the range is abysmal, the HD2 has to be sat on top of my laptop in order for it to work.

I heard O2 ripped the wifi app and drivers out of their ROM (not 100% sure). If thats the case you could always flash the Official HTC ROM which will restore wifi, clear a load of horrible O2 branding and add Youtube app Check out this Tutorial on how to do it.
By the way I've use the Wifi app and my Linux and Windows PC/laptops can all detect and connect to the phone. Handy if your out of cable...but unsecure due to WEP.

I had the YouTube app on my O2 ROM. I've now flashed with the latest official HTC ROM and WiFi Router is now fully installed.
I've found that name of Wi-Fi router needs no space !!! so, my computer could found it now...
been using wifi tethering with win7 64bit laptop no probs - nice function to have.
I tried to use, but can't see it neither in a XP nor a Vista!!!
my computer could'nt see it too
I could see and connect but no connectivity to the internet
Assigning IP took about 1 min
I can confirm it works fine for me, on an unbranded device.
It worked for me but only when I switched off my home broadband wifi router.

They may have been using the same channel, which would mean that the stronger signal would drown out the weaker one. I'd expect a home router to have a stronger signal so that would make sense. You can change the channel that your home wifi router uses, if this is an issue for you.
I've successfully installed and used the WiFi sharing app but have found a few things that would be useful such as:
Variable length, alpha and/or numeric Key for access.
Ability to turn ON/OFF the SSID broadcast.
MAC Address Filtering (limit access to certain MAC addresses).
Ability to support WEP and WPA (one or the other).
Anyone have any thoughts on this or registry mods that may implement the above? I just don't feel very secure with broadcasting the SSID and not having a more robust key or encryption.
how did you get the wifi sharing to work? i have tried numerous avenues, and two different cab. files, but i cannot get it to work. here is the short thread i started to get some help, but i still cant get it to work. any suggesttions you have? thanks i really need this to work.

I just installed the .cab file, re-booted the HTC HD2, and when I turned on sharing I just entered the desired SSID and a 10 digit numeric key for my PC to use when logging into the HTC. That's it, nothing special.
I'm just looking for alternatives that do NOT broadcast the SSID and have better encription and key alternatives.

I honestly haven't seen any solutions that incorporate all that, though I have seen the same question asked several times. It's not really an perfect solution (mainly the fact it only does ad-hoc connections), just gets the job done in a pinch.

the xda wifi sharing is working great on my TMOUS HD2, but I dont understand the different options under "internet connection" heading. wap.voicestream...., internet2.voicestream....,etc.
currently using internet3.voicestream and all is fine. But it seems to only allow a tethered connection when I have my wifi toggled 'on'. what if Im out of wifi range?
uhm i use Tom Codon's CMinternetsharing but i wish i could pair to more devices. i want it to be a wifi router not wireless tether. help?

In my experience, if you use the epc.tmobile.com or wap.voicestream.com, you may possibly run into 2 issues. Both of those can be throttled, and if you use wifi sharing while roaming, it may deny access and all you get is a white page telling you your roaming, internet plan not appliable or some crap.
On my hd2, if i use internet2.voicestream.com, i can both roam with it while wifi sharing and i don't get throttled. Have not messed with internet3 but that apn is for vpn users, you get a direct ip vs. a kinda nat ip on the rest. Again, this is my experience. Your milage may vary
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows how to make Android open the ports necessary for incoming connections for server apps to work without having to ping the client first under su?
Or failing that, is there a way to run a script that will ping the client IP instead of having to run the command by hand in terminal?
Thanks!

Second that! Something's off in 99/100 ROMS, TCP doesn't seem to do anything. Only one Sense ROM by cotulla seems to work.
I disabled the adblocking hosts file to test if it had anything to do with it (e.g. SSHDroid doesn't work with it) but that didn't help anything either
Agreed, does not seem to work on any rom I've tried, only Cotulla's 'Stock Desire' Sense build seems to work (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620).
Too bad Sense's so completely dire, otherwise I'd use that. I want CyanogenMOD.
Having the same question. I am sure here must be someone who knows how to enable inbound connections....
Little update:
I noticed it is possible for me to ping and use all services when using the gateway to access everything, in my case the access point/wifi router.
So it looks like this is some kind of routing/firewall issue but I can't find anything about default blocking or firewalling on android...
Good news. I found out what is causing this on almost every build.
It has something to do with the stock wifi tethering. If you try and enable it in almost every rom it will fail, but now turn on your wifi again and everything works as it would normally do!
The build it does work on also has working stock wifi tethering, so that explains that...
For now it's good to have this workaround and I hop to have a proper fix in the future
im using RAFDROID 3.0 and i dont think i have this problem at all. I tried SwiFTP and it connected without any issues.
Try to update the busybox version mine is 1.15.2

It works for me, but it's not 100% foolproof. It seems to work for a while, but not permanently. However, it's still better than the ping method. The ping method would never work for me, since I use Wifi at least 4 different places a week. Even when done automatically, how would I know what to ping on what Wifi network?! Random DHCP on workstations notwithstanding...
This does it for me:
turn on normal Wifi
wait around 10 seconds (for Wifi to 'start')
turn on Wifi hotspot (normal wifi should turn it self off automatically)
wait around 20 seconds (the hotspot takes a while to 'start', it actually fails (error) for me, but still does the trick)
turn normal Wifi on again
At that point it "works" for me, at least for a while.
At the very least this seems to indicate that the broken Wifi hotspot and this problem are related -- on Cotulla's build (where stock Wifi hotspot WORKS), this problem is non-existent.
Unfortunatly your steps do not work for me :-(

That's unlucky. Those steps seem to "work" for me on CleanDroid 1.30. Maybe we can just hope it works again when the stock wifi hotspot is fixed.
Alternate "solution":
Get Cotulla's "Stock Desire" ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
It definitely works on that. Too bad sense is dog****, and your battery will last for a day max.

Just tried this and it worked. As soon as I started the wifi the second time my computer started pinging HD2.
My usual procedure for fixing this was to start wifi, see assigned IP address and then ping my computer from 'Net Ping' app. This can be faster sometimes.
Is there a way to port hotspot from Cotulla's build to a nonSense build? No way for me to come back to sense again

Hey guys,
I did a search and I even clicked on all five threads that came up when I typed in the title of my this thread. All the treads either did not get a reply like three of the five that popped up plus others I found, or they said do a restore from a old Nandroid backup or reflash the ROM. So I have tried both of these suggestions, which frankly I know to try these things myself, I have tried fix permissions in CWM also. Anyway i am still having my issue.
I am using HyperDroid -CM7-v2.0.1 with cLK as you can see in my sig. I have not had any trouble using the WiFi Tethering feature in the settings of the ROM until yesterday. My laptop will show connected but say no internet connection no matter what. I downloaded Barnacle WiFi Tether app from the Android Market and it works, I am using it right now. But the built in WiFi Tether works sooooooo much better then the Barnacle app does.
Is there some settings on my HD2 or my computer I should check into?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated, this is driving me crazy.

Thanks for the response thenew. I don't really understand why it stopped working either. It shows connected but with no internet access. The Barniclewill give me internet access but even with my HD2 setting no more than two feet from my laptop it only has 1 to 2 bars on the WiFi signal strength indicator. Hmmmmmmm, know i know my ROM is rooted. So there must be something wrong with my Superuser app like maybe out of date or incompatible for some weird reason. Maybe if I update my Superuser app it will fix it.

I had issue with bluetooth as well, but I installed the bluetooth 4.0 software from the lenovo site and so far it seems to have fixed everything for me. (Even the wheel on my bluetooth mouse is now working as it didn't with the default load)
NB I have broadcom bluetooth in my laptop.
so i just tried sending a zip file. after pairing my lappy and phone i opened root explorer, chose send file, then chose my computer. it failed.
i then right clicked on the bluetooth icon in the notification area, choose receive a file. a window popped up, then I chose retry on my phone, and it worked perfectly. not sure if that helps, I don't typically use bluetooth...
i don't have time to test the wifi direct function right now...maybe later..
addition:
this is the wireless/bluetooth card i have...
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-wireless-n-2230.html
the laptop i use is MSI GT60 0NCR-002US
If you can tell us the make of your Bluetooth device connected to your pc or the laptop model number maybe we can find the right driver for it.

Thanks guys
That is the solution "receive a file" :good:
I have a nice ASUS UX31A, it used Intel drivers that dont support W8, they where deleted during installation, anyway I am happy enough with this solution

cool, glad that worked.
by the way, I got wifi direct working, I installed both the wifi drivers + software...then also the intel my wifi dashboard...and in intel my wifi dashboard I can access my wifi direct settings for my laptop...
i remembered it uninstalled all that stuff when it updated...it said it wasn't compatible...but they have updated versions on their website to download...
i took a really really quick look but didn't see the type of wireless card in use (didn't check drivers page though ) but i would guess your card supports this too, it might just be a matter of drivers/software...

Chrome doesnt support most plug-ins in Windows 8, so I ran the installations on Explorer, and everything looks ok now
