My daughter and I were playing a game when my kf froze up and turned off. I am rooted.
It won't turn on or off at this point. Any ideas as to how to get it working again?

Try holding the power button for twenty seconds or more. You might have press the power button a second time after the twenty seconds to get it to reboot.

I was browsing internet, when my NC frozen.
I pressed Power button, PowerOff/Reboot menu came up, but when I pressed Reboot nothing happened.
Funny thing is that my screen is up all the time and the clock follows time normally. Also I can feel its quite hot at the bottom.
I dont have the power cable with me.Any idea what can I do to restart?

Okay, because I don't have 10 posts I can't post in the Android Development section yet. Okay, I've have blnkks (sp?) ICS rom for about a week now. Today I was using the Kindle in study hall at school, playing glow hockey. I locked the screen, cleaned it because it was full of fingerprints, and then unlocked it. After I unlocked it, the screen went weird. Every time I press the power button, nothing happens. The screen isn't fully off, because I can see a faint purpleish tone, which tells me the screen it on. It's not bricked, because it didn't freeze in a boot cycle. Any idea? I have TWRP 2.0 and I do have a recent backup, if need be.
Have you tried holding the button down for >20 seconds? Eventually it should turn off if you do that. Then hit the power button again and it should start up normally.

I feel really stupid. I held it down for about 30 seconds and it finally turned off. It turned on with no problem. Before I was only holding it for a couple of seconds. Thanks for the help
The title says it all. I did a back up and flashed the rom. It worked well after the first boot but the Google apps was FC so I reboot to flash the gapps file. However, after shut down the kindle it just wont turn on. When I press the power button the green light appears for 3 seconds and it off again. What can I do ?
Edit: Now when I press the power button nothing happen :|
maybe charging it with the wall charger for some hours ...
Try holding down in the power button for like 20 seconds them turn on

I had this issue and thought I toasted it, negative.
Check to see if screen is still lit, if so tap power, screen should turn off. Wait about a minute then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
By that time should still be off, then after you let it go tap the power and should boot right up.
Not sure whats causing this but a minor glitch in the matrix, no biggie. Still very much useable after install of gapps.

Thanks I was able to turn it back one after a few tries
It seems this rom doesn't actually shut down. When I select the shutdown option the back light remains on and I have to force it off with the 20 button press.
I accidentally totally discharged my N4 and now t has been on recharge for over 2 hours.....when I turn it on now, the little battery displayd appears to be FULL.....BUT.....it does not start up like Normal. Is this Normal? Will it start up as it used to - after some more time? I HOPE so - this is my 2nd one.
Thanks, michael
Hold the power button longer, for about 3-4 seconds or hold volume down pressed and than press the power button. It should power on in bootloader mode, simply press power again and it should boot into system now.

Should be volume down and power button held in while turning the phone on.
I don't mean recovery ,I mean forcing it to shut down ,on all my other phones it was hold in power button

i thikn u just have to hold it down for much longer. i've noticed that power on takes probably a full second longer of holding the button than any other phone i've ever had.
Can't even get it to switch off ,held it down for about 30 sec and nothing

i read somewhere on here that you may have to press and hold both volume buttons AND power for the phone to do something. i dont know what it was, but it was something. try that. try all the combinations. holding buttons down isn't going to damage your phone.
Ok this definitely does not work on my one +6T
No matter how long I hold the power button in for it does not force the phone to restart .
Could anyone else test this ,or suggest reasons why .I always liked to do a hard reset Evey week or so so close down any apps that have run in the background etc
Thanks

My phone will hard reboot by pressing and holding power and volume up for approximately 10 seconds. Can you not just reboot the normal way through the power menu?
Mine doesn't turn off just by holding the power button. What you're describing though is not a reset of any type. It's a force shutdown, and that's not something you should be doing unless you need to (when the phone is unresponsive, for example). Just do a regular restart, if you feel the need to be refreshing or resetting, as you call it.
power off /restart/screenshot are the 3 options I get when I push the power button..tmo version..

I tested mang0s solution by pressing power and vol up in both recovery and normal mode. It works, recovery will reboot the phone and in normal mode the phone powers off.

Forcing a shutdown has the potential to cause corruption. If you shut down correctly then the OS tells everything to close first, which will avoid that.

I second this. Hold volume up and the power button and the phone turns off after 10 seconds.
