[Q] Text notifications - Kindle Fire General

Is there anyway to get instant text notification with screen off? I'm using text+ and I while on Modaco rooted stock rom, I can't get the notifications unless the screen is on. If I am using cm7 they come instantly but not on the other. Thanks

On a stock rom, you might give WiFi Keep Alive, an app that lets you set the device to keep listening to the Wifi connection with the screen off.
I don't recall if it will work without root, but I use it a lot.

Screen doesn't turn on when i receive SMS

Hi, i just flashed my phone with MIUI, and now my screen doesnt turn on when i receive a notification.
Has this happened to anyone?
It happens to me with Oxygen too.
It's the application that controls whether the screens is turns on.
Have you tried a different application? Handcent? GoSMS?

Tasker and Nexus 7

Wondering if anyone has any input of this.
I already have a tasked profile for when I sign onto my home network to disable notifications on my phone, as I am using my tablet exclusive at home. Then they turn back on when I leave my WiFi range of my house. I am using Tablet Talk for SMS so I get those notifications on the tablet.
Now...
I want to setup Tasker on my tablet so that when I am not home my tablet does not make noise.
Any ideas on how you would do it?
Looking for brainstorming ideas...

I don't use Tasker on my Nexus 7 but use it on my phone. I think I understand what you're wanting, but not quite sure.
Couldn't you just set up a profile for Wifi Near and invert it? Then create a task to enable silent mode?

Set a variable that changes values when you are connected to WiFi and then a task with an if that only executes if the value is whatever when you are not connected.
Might not be the best way, but that's where I would start.
Correction on this a little after re reading my post. I want to get it so that when I am not home and leave my tablet there it does not make noise. I am not sure if there is a way for tasker to scan the network for a specific MAC address and if it sees it then disable notifications. Then I'd be able to sign onto my WiFi at home with my nexus phone when I get home and all notifications would go to the tablet.
Was also thinking NFC would be neat to trigger it all. Think this way. You come home and tsp your phone to tablet and the notification volume gets turned up on your tablet (ie. Gmail, SMS). Then when you leave you tap them together again and NFC turns notification volume up on your phone an down on your tablet.
Using NFC tasker I can only see writing to NFC tags for tasks not setting specific tasks based on the NFC communication between the two devices.

Two options come to mind. First would be pairing your phone and tablet over bluetooth and then creating a state where when they are not connected to each other, the tablet would be in silent mode. Second, how about just having the tablet go to silent mode when charging? You're not likely to be using your tablet while charging because the battery life can handle it, and you probably leave your tablet charging when you're not home.
It's not perfect but I'm not sure how else you'd do it without getting really fancy in Tasker stuff.

I saw this thread and had to share my idea. It sounds like what you need is a way to let your Nexus know when you are no longer home. The easiest way to do that, in my mind, is through SMS, especially since you already have SMS tied to your tablet, anyway. You could add a hook to the profile you already have that turns notifications on and off based on whether you are home to also send an SMS to your tablet with a code word that you would then use in a Tasker profile on the Nexus to trigger your silent mode. So something like.
Get Home:
Turn on your SMS forwarding, Send "I'm home" SMS to the Nexus by sending an SMS to yourself that gets forwarded, triggering your profile that you'd want for when you're, you know, home.
Leave home:
Send "Not home" SMS to the Nexus, putting everything into silent mode, then turn off SMS forwarding
It's probably also possible to set it up so tasker immediately dismisses the notifications and deletes the SMS for you, since it seems to me like Tasker can pretty much do anything. The only other option I could come up with would be something that constantly has the two devices pinging off each other, which sounds like a battery eating nightmare.
Side note for my own info, but I plan on picking up a 7 in the next few weeks and I assume based on this thread that Tasker functions well on it? I've currently got a rooted and jellybeaned Fire that Tasker won't really work on, at all.
autoremote is a tasker plugin. If for some reason you don't want to use sms as another poster suggested, you can link your n7 and phone and send messages through autoremote. Basically you'd have the opposite of your existing profile turning your phone notifications off, and when you phone isn't on your home network it will send an autoremote message to your n7 that you can use as a context to make whatever sound alterations (and other changes) you'd like.
autoremote is the easiest way I've found to communicate back and forth between tablet and phone. I use it to sync alarms between them, so I have a backup alarm without actually having to set it up.

Screen turn on when messages received and home button turn on screen disable

Hi all
Is there any way to disable messages to turn on screen ?
And is there any way of disable the home button waking the phone ?
I am rooted. Thanks in advance

For the home button waking phone issue, see this thread in this forum from yesterday:

I'm not as worried about the Home key, but I have the same complaint about receiving SMS.
When I receive a text message, my screen turns on for a few seconds, then turns off again. Is there a way to stop this?
If I touch the screen when it is on, it takes me into whatever I touched, and the screen stays on. That is particularly a problem when it turns on while in my pocket.
My phone is set to have no lock screen (and unless you use a PIN or similar, I don't know why you would want a lock screen - it's just one more step to get to using your phone).
My Messaging app is set to show notifications in the notification bar and play a sound and vibrate, but not to show a message preview.
So, I think it's actually a bug that the screen would turn on at all, just from receiving an SMS or MMS message.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to stop this behavior?

Bug or feature?

Hello,
I'm using omnirom on my Nexus 5 (5.1.1 nightlies) for about a month and I found some things where I can't say if its a bug or a feature:
1. I'm using bluetooth in my car to play music from my nexus 5. My bluetooth system has a key to play/pause and skip a track. Everytime when I skip to the next track, the display gets active and stays active for the setted display timeout. I couldn't find any setting where to disable this "feature". Before I was on stock and didn't have that problem, it causes high battery drain.
2. If you're in e.g. Whatsapp and press the power button to get your device into standby, the app remains in background and is still active. I cant explain exactly, normally (on stock) when you get in that situation a message, the normal notification sound would be hearable, but here its only the in app notification sound. So it seems that the app isn't in standby and thinks you're looking at your phone. This happens also in Threema, which is not good because you don't recognize when you get a new message. I hope you understand what I mean.
3. When you're in such a messaging app and you get a message, the notification stays in the notification center until you swipe it away or touch on it, so it does not detect wether being in the app in the correct chat or not, it shows it independently.
Otherwise I have no problems, really nice rom!

Disable screen wake on notification

Has anyone found a way to disable screen wake for notifications? Every time I receive a new email or hangout message(Those are the two I've noticed so far) my screen will turn on. Driving me crazy.

+1 on that, driving me crazy also and I can't find any way to turn it off.

Just tested it, I don't have screen wake on notification, neither with power plugged in, nor on battery. Also tried with with always on display, it only adds notification icon, doesn't even change the brightness.
Go into "settings" and turn off all notifications
it's also annoying that the screen lights up when the battery reaches 100% while wirelessly charging,
it lights up the whole bedroom.
This was driving me crazy. Came across 'SMS Popup' app I used years ago and it works like a charm. No more screen lighting up when a message comes in. Disable notifications in stock messaging app and enable in SMS popup. Unselect 'screen on for popup'. I like the popup options better than default messaging app too, you can configure the buttons and even have one that reads the message out loud.
Edit: After further testing, results are very inconsistent. Works great sometimes and not at all others. I have uninstalled and it's back to square one.
