Get Windows 98/XP to run on Atrix - Atrix 4G General

I followed this guide on EVO 3D forum, and everything worked:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459153
I googled around and found some XP and Win98 images. Just used them.
I will test if HDMI landscape mirroring on lapdock is good or not.

how slow is it on xp, just out of interest?

Wine via qemu on lapdock is better idea.
Tried the n900 guide but got segfaults with wine(qemu worked perfectly), maybe you got more luck/time to play with their guide.

Does full emulation of x86 work with ubuntu/lapdock? I've been wondering this. always wanted to try and run StarCraft 1 on my phone. if it runs at all decently (doubtful windows on linux on linux on arm..) but it'd be neat.

Yes, I followed the nokia n900 guide and got working qemu-x86(userspace) but stuck with wine.
Also you got bochs and qemu working on android(very slow)

Playing around, but i can't connect to webtop in LS HDMI
Win 98 and XP is not smooth enough with such small touchscreen.

Windows XP is not working for me :/
can you make a movie how to create bootable windows xp partition?

Ditto on the movie? Maybe a youtube vid?

I don't know why you brought back a dead thread, and not only that you posted some unrelated thing from smosh.
On topic:
How do I get playonlinux to work? The aptget/wdget doesnt work nor does the rpm... Anyone got a guide or something?

dead thread? lol... First post is from 31st January 2012, 11:45 AM

What the hell? My phone had it listed as 2011, I need to check that... So is playonlinux under the stable or unstable setting?

there is no playable game with playonlinux. This is unstable ARM port from x86 app. You can try to emulate Windows with QEMU or Bochs. You can download this packages from Synaptic.

You doing it wrong! Smali editing.

Ok good got your attention?
So actually I guess I am the one doing it wrong.
I am using baksmali to look at why ** doesn't work in the new 2.1 dialer. I have a feeling it has to do with the SpecialCharMgr in the new 2.1 dialer.
SpecialCharMgr.smali references"##", "#", and "#*#*", "*#*#" it only seems to be like ** would show up in here as well.
When I run baksmali on my work computer - I get smali files galore. When I run it on my laptop, I really only get the images/xml files. Not one smali to be found.
So what am I doing differently on this machine than the other? Does it have to do with the version of java installed? I thought it was the latest on both machines.
Also, I can't remember back to 1.5 (all 3 months ago) was it called HtcDialer.apk there as well? I have a phone.apk, but again, can't look to see if they are really "the same" or not. If 1.5 had an HtcDialer.apk can someone post it for me, I have 3 roms and its not in the /system/app of any of them.
what are you running for op system on your laptop? I had this problem and had to install 64 bit java (i'm on windows 7 64 bit). By default, only 32 bit java installs even on a 64 bit op system. You can always test, open command prompt and type java, see what ya get.

Any clue on the 1.5 dialer? Phone apk from 1.5 has some stuff but not what I am looking for.

hmm not sure, what are ya wanting to do? Ya got my curiosity.
Can ya just rip open the 1.5 dialer and compare?

Sorry, guess you have ripped it open. is there an epst.apk or field test apk in 1.5?

Thread moved as this is not development.
What do you mean this isn't development!? I guess decompiled java byte code is just text editing? The sub forum isn't called "hero roms" its called hero development, which last I checked had to do with program code....

Ubuntu successfully running on the FIRE

My FIRE:
Rooted with Burrito Root
Busybox installed
I followed the instructions from "Ubuntu Install Guide" found in the Market
This is essentially a ubuntu .img file that you place in /sdcard fire up, and VNC into
But works extremely smoothly!
There is a regular desktop version and a LXDE version, even one formatted for the Kindle Fire's 1024x600 screen
Mark
Video of it? Screen shots?
Would love to see video and screenshots if you could.
Update: I searched the guide on the market and found this. There is a video there and a few five star reviews. Is this what you are talking about mprattmd?
Thanks,
il Stalk3r li
That's it, there is a paid version if you want the links to the higher resolution ones, although you can just search xda ánd find the links also.
Runs as smooth as on a ñetbook!
I will see if I can video
Well, it wont let me link my video , put youtube.com then
/watch?v=OWN9rU290Gw
I tried this on CM7, and it didn't work properly.

Do you have busy box?
What error you get?
Wow, this is so awesome..
I need to get this
I would like to read more about Ubuntu on the KF.
Awesome....Can i test it
I can comfirm this works on cm7
It gave me a bunch of errors when I ran the script.

Ok, in order to do this, you HAVE to install the PAID version of the app, then redownload the PAID boot script and replace the old one. Also, it has fast download times.
Thanks for this. Would be happy to pay the $1.50 for the work you've put in packaging this, but using Cyanogenmod 7 I can't buy this app in the marketplace... I'm told it's not compatible, with no option to download it.The free app installs fine however. Any thoughts on this? Also, have you managed to get 11.10 working yet? Am more interested in this, with some version of Unity (2d if nothing else), than the 10.10 interface. Cheers.

Unity.... Thats just nasty
Lol. Unity isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love it, and use it as my daily driver. It's quick, intuitive, and designed for people willing to be open to new ways of using a computr interface. After using desktop linux for sone years (multiple distros), I'm hooked.
how big is the .img file?
what with the kindle having no removable sd, i'm rather cramped on space.
Large is includes:
1.5GB download, which is 3.5GB once extracted
Lightweight image includes:
500MB download, which is 2.5GB once extracted
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zpwebsites.ubuntuinstall
This rocks! It's only a shame it's VNC since hardware acceleration would prove to be a problem there I reckon. Still, would be an interesting experiment to get tuxracer on there and see how it went!
I can confirm this is working, but can you install gnome or similar?

[Q] Windows 8 free upgrade

Hi I was wondering if people who just bought a Windows 7 computer would be able to get a free upgrade to Windows 8 when it comes out, kinda like what happened with Vista/7. Thanks

it Is certainly very quick just now, but looking at the vids, when its done on a computer designed for Win 8 its stupid fast.
Think of putting Win 7 in suspend, turning on in what? a few seconds, the time it takes to do 5 pushups?
well Win 8 on dedicated hardware can more or less do that from cold, no suspend, battery out of a laptop
before you say that's just hibernating, well, if that's the case then it still looks twice as fast as my hibernating laptop takes to wake up. so in either case its pretty damn cool

Seriously? 8 seconds? I don't think Windows 7 on a SSD boots that fast...
Kinda, you get a disscounted upgrade to Windows 8 Professional ($15).
But I don't think they started this offer yet, but rather will start next month, when the Release Canidate is availble.

Yes, they tested this, and found computers with SSDs running Windows 8 can start with-in 8 seconds. And most HDs can start usually with-in 20seconds, usually. However, there's a bit of an issue with it starting so fast. It boots so fast, you don't have enough time to access BIOS settings. Thankfully, MS is coming up with a fix, where it launches Windows 8, but if it detects a problem, it doesn't do a full boot, but goes to option screen similar to when an error occurs during a Win7 boot up (Only now, it's visible with mouse support, instead of BIOS like menus, which of course is required, or it wouldn't work on tablets) So that way, from the Win8 option screen, you can do the expected things such as choose boot device, launch repair mode, force start BIOS. You can also manually access it by holding shift while clicking 'Restart'.
Here's an article on more:

I have WIndows 8 installed as a second OS, and while I still mostly use 7 (Don't have most my files, settings, and programs ported over yet) I still have Win8 set as default OS, simply cause I love the visuall menu selection.
like everybody said, it will cost you to upgrade (of course)
but, if you dont have any money, why don't we wait till the pirate of the seven seas give us the OS
Right now you can download and install the consumer preview for free, but after a certain date your computer will not function until you pay for the full version.

The vid shows no other applications, programs, start up etc. That's why it booted so fast.

Asus T100 Owners

Is there a T100 owners thread? If not this should serve as one. We can discuss device tips and tricks as well as other stuff.
Mine is about to he shipped and will be my first Win8 device. I am pretty excited for it to come. I'm hardcore android and always will be, however it seems to be a good mobile productivity device.

linux question & dock
1, yeh id like to know why cant we just use a 32bit arch of Linux instead of patching the hell out of a 64bit arch
2. ive seen a Mod for the t100 keyboard dock to add a ssd hdd in it, question is will it work for the t100ta dock
as well?
I have a T100 but haven't seen anything on XDA dedicated to the device
I did find another forum but I think its against the rules to put up a link to it here
Its very similar to XDA and I have found a lot of good tips for the T100 there
so if anyone is interested hit me up with a PM and I will point you in the right direction
Ya I found a good dedicated sub forum on wp central so I'll have to register there

Is anyone else having a problem, where with the latest windows update, touch and mouse don't function as they should. It registers as if I was touching it on the left side of the screen, where the windows button is on the charm bar, even when I am not touching it there. This kind of renders the whole device unusuable.
Can't say myself. Just got mine today. Finally setup and charging. I noticed mine doesn't have the windows home logo bottom center like in all the videos I have seen. Anyone else have or don't have the false button? Everything else is correct..

Limbo pc for Switchroot

Have anyone tried running a pc emulator on switchroot?
Short answer: Not possible. But even so, why would you want to do that? There is native Switch Limbo port and there is even an Android Limbo port.
HughNeutron2018 said:
You just contradicted yourself. You gave "not possible" for an answer, but gave an explaination that it does work. This is Android running on Nintendo Switch. That means that Limbo can work through Android, which a custom ROM is supplied here for Nintendo Switch on XDA. Also, there is no native Limbo PC Emulator for Nintendo Switch, only DOSBox, which can only emulate older operating systems based on MS-DOS such as Windows 98 & before.
