I got my tablet yesterday, after rooting it, installing a rom, playing a couple games, etc.. Now what? What are some good apps/fun games? What do you use your tablet for the most?
It depends what you want to do with it. I use my tablet mostly for reading news and watch Youtube. I don't play games in my tablet nor cellphone.
I haven't really bothered with almost any games on my tablet, but I just recently found one game that I have really liked: Osmos HD. Try out the demo on Android Market, it's terribly fun.
hummmmmm
Its your TABLET use it for what you wish.
I use built in email.
splashtop HD .. (TO ACCESS HOME PC)
CHAT such as yahoo. and g+
its your tablet you bought it..
also check out thumbs keyboard and tab- tex or sync sms.. all great apps.

I just browse the web, watch movies and read manga on it with Manga Watcher. I don't really use my tablet much, I only use it as temporary entertainment when I'm waiting for something, or to relax a bit while lying in bed waiting to fall asleep.

My favorites are Hellsing, Full Metal Alchemist, Berserk, Battle Angel Alita and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order, got all of them as physical books too, but I just like to have them with me on-the-go also. I'm just starting up on Sankarea, I have no idea if it's any good or not.
Another thing you can use your tab for is actually productivity: There's next to nothing you can't do with a rooted tab and a linux chroot (within the boundaries of a deterministic Turing machine, of course! )... I personally use it with a bluetooth keyboard for document preparation (LaTeX) and programming on the go (Java, Haskell, C and some others).
Of course, streaming movies from my network storage and playing Angry Birds are very nice pastimes, too...

But yes this is the only thing i check my email on .I text my friends from my tablet thru my phone with the available apps on market.I always get asked when im at the doctors offices and Physical THERAPY ... oops painful torture.. IF ITS A IPAD..
I TELL THEM NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO would never own a i product.. my therapist has a ipad she is going to sell and buy android now that she sees mine.
my biggest complaint about my tablet. Is the apps that i use that try to collect data always..
wish i had a app. that has a widget that would create a freeze now list .. that you can toggle on and off.. it would be awesome.. So that when im tethered i can freeze that list of apps.. and when im on wifi can let them run RAMPED AS they always want to do .. Im talking facebook app my messenger apps google apps and so on... I know they only start then sit waiting for me.. But if i kill them . my speed is vastly improved...They are taking cpu cycles.

Yes, of course -- I'm compiling using the debian armel port of gcc and linking against the debian armel libc... all that on top of the android kernel using chroot (basically a crude form of virtualization, two OSes running on the same kernel). That's how I got java7 and GHC (and all those many other useful tools like git) to work, as well... If you want to try it, use Linux Installer from the market.
Proceed with caution !!!!!!! Im game..

So, now that we have our phones legitimately activated and working, one question remains. Do we buy apps knowing the risk that they could be potentially pulled from under our feet?
Another thing to think about is - if we do buy apps, we will be generating MS revenue and they may be less inclined to block us out.
I for one will spend some money on Xbox Live games since I am a two year Xbox Live Gold member, but I would like to know what you guys think.

These look like legitimate HD7s from the outside, its only from cross-referencing the phone numbers given to activation staff that the HD2 would be found out. At least, thats what I understand of the situation...
I thought they could see our IMEI numbers, which I also gave on the phone when getting my code. That will tell them we are on HD2s
pick up 10 xbox live games and a few apps loving the games
I just went on a spending spree, bought:
Harvest (skeptical at first, amazing trial)
de Blob (rave reviews)
ilomilo (again - got it on the console lol)
Rocket Riot (great handling + style)
I'm set for a good while now.
The quality of the games is great, the prices seem to get better with time, but they are still rather high. Love the try before you buy ideology that they kept from XBLA, really helps you decide if you want the game.
I would love to buy a few xbox live games, but I have no idea how i can get an american credit card... Guess I'll have to wait until marketplace is available in my country.

Yes, I bought Gem Quest 2 and my son bought some racing game for his HD2 also dual booting WP7.

Just had an issue with Need for Speed Underground, really janky in-game sound was the only thing that stopped me from buying the app.

They're easier. To be honest I really did that to support the devs, but they are different levels - same overall themes though. Same mechanics, just bitesize.
And that theme song just melts my heart, like seriously.

I'm digging the whole xbox live service on my phone having some 80 xbox live/xbox live games on demand on my 360 this is more of an extension to my gaming needs
and the games are great for the first batch of live games
Agree the games all kick ass.
The Harvest
Need for Speed (play with volume down)
IloMilo (my fiancee loves how "cute" this game is...also an excellent puzzle game)
I have tried a few games, altough they are on par with competitive platforms, the HD2 multitouch is a gamebreaker, you get it? gamebreaker.
Untill the multitouch is fixed, i'll remain to play simple and free games such as solitaire and so on.
I have bought 5 games so far:
Harvest
Bejeweled Live
Hexic Rush
Zombies! (awesome remake of the board game)
Assassin's Creed (liked the ds version)
Love my xbox live, 6+ years.

I hear so much about the Transformers incredible capabilities, but I have yet to hear what it cant do? What exactly separates it from being just as good as a computer?

Left my TF to make me a cup of coffee this morning whilst I took I shower, but when I came back it hadn't even made an attempt to do it.
Very poor Asus!

In all seriousnes.. For me it cant edit pictures efficiently in a manner I do on my laptop.. And I wouldnt even dream of dropping a Full HD h.246 video right out of my DSLR on it.. Its not powerful enough to play them let alone even try and manipulate those movie files.. Some day I hope to have a TF like device that will.. Anouther thing is that Video playback from the Browser could be better.. It does well but still isnt anything compaired to my i7 laptop.
Another thing is that in the Browser the keyboard has some serious lag issues that will need to be fixed later on in firmware updates.
Hmm .. I am trying to think of what else.. OH big one..
NO NETFLIX!! I know its comming but this is kinda a real bummer at the moment.
Aside from that I absolutly love mine and I think its the greatest money I have ever spent.. I dont expect it to do the things that my i7 laptop does but then again that is not what I bought it for.. I dont need a monster truck of a computer to go get the groceries ever day ( aka Fackbook, email, daily Forum surfing, blogs, etc)
All in all I love it.. I can throw my DSLR SD card in the Dock and view all my pics while charging my Droid X and/or OG Droid and using my wireless mouse plugged into the other USB port..

thats nothing to do with the Asus that'd be a android/filemanager thing. If your CBR reading app correctly associates itself with .cbr files then a filemanager would open it.
change .cbr to .rar and most file managers will open the file, or get ACV to read your .cbr files.

I have spent most of the day working on mine doing my reports, what it can't properly do is replicate the productivity apps on your PC, like Word & Excel. The Android equivalents do a fair job of allowing you to see & edit most docs, but using tables & more advanced formatting in a WP doc & trying to edit / create charts is beyond the apps at the moment. I doubt MS will bring out an Android Office, so we have to make do with what's there.
Printing is an issue, I can print, but not always the documents I want to & they don't always come out right.
I watch movies & content from Flash sites & spend a lot of time on email & websites like this, all are good (agree that the current browser typing lag must be addressed urgently).
It doesn't have a decent BBC iPlayer app or Sky Mobile app - UK users need to be vocal about BBC & Sky stepping up support for Android tablets.
If you can settle for the fact that the TF is not a PC & wasn't designed to be you will be happy.

NO Netflix!!! With such a beautiful ips screen, Netflix needs to hurry up and optimize their app for HC without all of the security issues!!! Other than that, it does the things I need it to do (browsing, gaming, twittering, facebooking, etc.)
KB does lag and sometimes it takes to switch app between apps!!!
I use PlayOn for Netflix and Hulu. It's not perfect, but good enough in a pinch. It's also not free, but it also allows Hulu which, even if there were an official client, would require Hulu+ at $7.99/month. So, technically speaking Netflix doesn't need to be on the list.
For me, the biggest thing the TF doesn't do, as mentioned, is allow for editing complex documents. I can use it for my fiction writing and blogging (although the Wordpress interface doesn't work sell, so I still need to finish larger blog posts on a PC some of the time), but not for most of my day job work, which requires the ability to create Word docs with headers and footers, tables, embedded Excel spreadsheets, etc. Oh, and PowerPoint support is pretty sketchy across the board, although of the options I've tried so far the included Polaris Office actually does best with Photoshop. And, of course, there's no robust Photoshop and InDesign support, and so I can't do that kind of work on it.
I think the TF makes a great adjunct device to a good desktop and/or notebook. If I were to go on a trip away from my desktop for a week or so, I'd still take my HP Envy notebook with me. On the typical day or overnight trip, however, I just take the TF.

Doesn't do Hulu (as previously mentioned) and it really doesn't like open office files. And if a file transfer that had huge numbers of small individual files fails, you'll have a fun time having to individually delete sub folders (or I did anyways). But I just got mine, so I haven't really found out what it can do, let alone what it can't (aside from all the humorous stuff already covered).

I picked up my tab yesterday and i love it... However right now i feel that aside from browsing the web i use my phone for most things like email and twitter because its more convenient. What do you guys use it for? I want to get the most out of it so fill me in
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium App
there's really nothing that I couldn't do on my phone...it's just easier/better doing it on the tab. For example, I read a ton of ebooks, and have been doing so on my phone, but lately it's started hurting my eyes, plus the small screen means I'm changing pages every 20 seconds which is annoying. or the 10 hour plane flight I'll be on in a couple weeks - I could watch a movie on my phone, but it's so much more enjoyable on the tab.
I think the better comparison is between tab and laptop, which for me is the big question. I use the tab for simply browsing and checking email, but when it comes time to actually do some typing, I go back to the laptop. Swype or not a real keyboard is just so much easier.
I'm the exact opposite.
Since I brought my tab home, I haven't touched my phone. It's been in the charger since Friday night.
I browse, email, text, music -everything basically from this tab.
Try plume for twitter, add swype and friend me for facebook and see if your phone is still more convenient.
Everything I want to see on a screen larger than four inches.
Tablets don't really do anything phones or laptops don't. They're just nice and comfortable to have for browsing the web, consuming media, reading, that kinda stuff. It's preferable to having an unwieldy laptop or tiny phone, so I can't wait till I get mine.
Sure, my phone can do everything my tab does, but a tablet is a lot more comfortable for many things. For example, I can browse the internet on my phone, but I rarely do because it just isn't that comfortable. I only do it when I don't have an option. Tab, however, is almost on par with a pc and way better when on the go.

I don't think that inch will matter. Especially when the 8.9 is said to have a lower quality display and be a bit thicker.
2 main things that I don't enjoy doing on my EVO:
1. Watching movies on planes. I fly a lot for work.
2. PDF signature app so I can sign and email documents without having to print, sign, scan. I know I can also do this on a phone but much easier on my Tab.
I for one am a ex-cell phone Rep, and the one thing that I spent years preaching was the all-in-one device. The Rep that got my Evo for me was trying to get me a tab when they first came out, and I asked one question that stopped the conversation. Can the tab make a regular phone call, not video chat (facetime,tango,etc..) just a phone call. The answer was no. So I am quite happy with a phone that I use for everything, than a tab that can't do it all

See I look at it the other way. I believe in using the right tool for the job. For example, a spork can do anything a spoon or fork could do but I'll never use a spork because it will never do as good a job as a dedicated spoon or fork. I hope that makes sense. It sounded good in my head.

Form factor. The 10.1 feels nice in my hand but when I have both my phone and 10.1 to me I almost always reach for the phone due to its size. Picking up the 10.1 just feels awkward and clunky. I just have a feeling that the 8.9 might be in that sweet spot (for me) where I wouldn't hesitate to grab it instead.
Now...I think the 10.1 is the perfect size if I was using it for a business but...for me it is just for fun.
I have only had the thing for a day though so opinions might change. Right now I find I'm using the tab mostly with XDA and tapatalk.

Was going to do a different thread, but this seems like a good place for me to ask..
I'm thinking about getting the 10.1 as a *replacement* for my laptop. I have the advantage of a terminal server at work (ie I can have my tablet "running" Windows 2003 Server, and I can use Logmein to control my laptop @ home (Windows XP).
The main things I do on my laptop are:
- Quicken (planning on Logmein)
- Internet (including Facebook flash games - can anyone tell me how well this works/doesn't work)
- Email (planning on web based)
I'm planning on Wifi only, since 95% of the time will use @ work & home. For other times, will use Hotspot on my phone.
Honestly, assuming that this can handle Facebook flash games, I just want to be able to sit on my comphy chair & use this tablet instead of sitting at the dining room table on my laptop. I keep thinking of things that I do on my laptop that the tablet can't do - and I just can't think of other problems.
I'm also planning on getting a bunch of education games for my kids (3 years & twin 2 years). They love playing on my mother's iPad, and I see lots of similar games for Android.
Oh - keep meaning to look this up - off the top of people's heads - assuming I use my same Gmail account, are programs I purchased for my phone OK on the Tablet, or do I need to re-purchase everything?
Finally, how's holding the device while sitting? I used to use a Tablet laptop (back in the pen days) and found out that you could only hold it for a brief time before your arm gave out.
Thanks for any help - especially on the Flash/Facebook games which is a make-or-break for me.

I also used an old school XP tablet/laptop. It was clunky, huge, heavy, unwieldy, and in short everything this device isn't. It's both thinner and lighter than an iPad 2 (not by much mind you, but just to give you an idea). So if you can hold your mother's iPad without issue, the GT won't be a problem either.
Hope this helps!

Much appreciated.
I don't play much on Facebook, but hoping that they are at least playable for the 10 mins a day that I do. I'm not so worried about other pages since I rarely have a problem on my Android phone.
Very glad to hear about not having to re-purchase things!
I thought about 1 more program I use on my laptop (although due to the kids not so often) - MTGO (Magic Gathering online). Wonder how well that would work through logmein. Might have to try remotely accessing my laptop from elsewhere to get a feel for it.
I'll have to borrow my mom's iPad for a day to try to get a feel for what it's like to hold it while sitting. I think that it probably going to be the other big thing. If it can do the programs & apps I need - is it more comphy then using a full blown laptop?
BTW - the thing I do most on my phone is read books. I *think* Kindle has a way to synch what page you're on.. shame most of my collection is outside of Kindle. Will have to look for programs that read other formats & can synch what page I'm on.
@polstein:
It's definitely easier to tote around and just lean back in a chair than with a laptop, no question. Also fewer worries about sitting somewhere with an outlet nearby, no concern about putting it down for a minute while you get up, etc. Minor things but they add up!
Like I said, the lack of a keyboard is the biggest concern. One option for this could be to use a BT keyboard, or purchase the USB adapter from Samsung. For monitoring things, reading, surfing, etc, it's great! I haven't used quicken for a number of years, so I dunno how much typing is required, but depending on the gui you might find yourself zooming in/out frequently, which could be annoying. Re books, I don't think there are other apps that sync. If your collection is in mobi format, or you're willing to convert, Kindle can sideload.
My opinion (after 1 day and some previous experience with an iPad): it's definitely not a full computer replacement. But I can definitely see going for a week or two just on the Tab, without opening my laptop. Especially if I bother teaching myself how to use one of the good android keyboards!
Okay, my goal was to play ps2, gamecube, wii or any pc game on the xperia play. And I knew that can't be done via emulation... BUT you can do that via streaming(local or internet)
here's the result of my test via internet streaming:

why am I using teamviewer? because... we can only use the directional cross...
FOR NOW!!! 'cause, I contacted the splashtop team and they will work on adding the gaming controller.... http://support-remote.splashtop.com/requests/5647
Maybe if we are alot to demand that, they will add the gaming controller faster...
Also, you can get splashtop for free (5$ on market):

I don't really get why people try SO hard to play cool PC games on their XP via internet. This way only works on WIFI, so why da F would you rather play a good pc game on your xperia play? Instead of playing it on your computer like it supposed to be? I can see if it would work on 3g, but as we all know, 3g is no way near fast enough to stream a good quality game to our Xperia play.
So, if you CAN'T play a good quality pc game like lets say GTA 4 over 3g (with team viewer, onLive or other ways), then i'm not interested.
nice try either way dude. Not trying to bast your balls or nothing like that.
I'm so sorry, but I think that playing like this is a bit dumb.
I mean, you can only play via wifi (via 3g? lol no), and as seen on the video, you have to stay near the wifi device that outputs the signal for playing without lag, so in that case, I find smarter to play the game on the PC instead on a mobile after having to open a program on the PC and another on the Xplay.

Does it really matter? It's the same f-ing thing in the end? What i'm talking about is WHY for THE LOVE F GOD would you rather play a good PC game on your phone instead of your PC? :S I don't care if the app is made for just mirroring the pc screen or made for gaming, you won't be able to play it via 3g anyway so why even bother?
The ONLY reason i can see this would be cool if you got some friends over and you be like "Hey! I can play call of duty on my phone hahaha you can't!" and your pals will be like "ok.. but it looks like it lags like ****, and why is call of duty running on your pc? plus, can you play it anywhere". You answer "Well.. no but you.." and your friends says "HAH! .. then it's gay as ****".
That's exactly how it is.. bro. Prove me wrong.

I use OnLive on my laptop with no lag so why should it lag on my phone. Also why would i need 3G? I have WiFi at home and when im out i'm very rarely in a position to say oooh why don't i play a game on my phone. You seem to think OnLive just mirrors a desktop it's nothing like that. They even have there own OnLive consoles out now
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Yeah onlive is a totally different thing than this. HTC (afaik) spend 40 mill $ on this project and they're gonna bring it to smartphones and tablets in Q1 2012 where you can actually play games with a controller and hook it up to your tv (if the device got hdmi, wich those devices released with onlive will have). You've got a brand new console, a mobile one i might ad. I do see the point in onlive.

Dude, i know what OnLive is. But you still don't see my point do you?
Why would you wanna play a PC game on your phone? Instead of your computer like it's supposed to be? XP is a phone that also is made as an portable gaming device. But this isn't going to work. 3G network isn't fast enough to run good games in perfect speed (prove me wrong). So even IF it would work to play games on our play, we still would have to play via WIFI. And if that was the case, i would still rather play the game on my xbox or my pc. Not on a tiny ass phone.
The day someone will come up to me with their play and show me that they can play lets say GTA 4 (over 3G of course), then I'll be interested. But as it looks now? No thank you..

So you take your PC everywhere do you? The world is full of free WiFi hotspots, every coffee shop, every mc donalds blah blah blah. The fact i'll be able to play all my OnLive games while i'm on holiday or staying at family members makes it worth it for me imo. With all my data and saves already there stored in the cloud. Epic

Lol no ****, I don't see how this other dude is even arguing against OnLive in any way. During a typical day in my life I am covered by Wi-Fi about 95% of the time. The only time I really don't have WiFi is when I'm driving, which obviously I won't be playing Just Cause 2 while I'm operating a vehicle.
OnLive is probably the absolute best possible thing that could happen to the Xperia play. Now not only will we be able to play every game pre-PS2 era, but we'll get access to just about every major release going forward into the future. How could you possibly not be excited about this? Also, the smaller the screen being outputted to, the better OnLive looks/works. It will require far less bandwidth for a smooth experience on the Xplay and look much better than on a 23'' monitor/HDTV.
Another huge plus - since console are such hot **** nowadays, most games are designed with a gamepad in mind now, so controlling them on the XPlay won't be a complete nightmare.
Bottom line, we'll be playing Deus Ex:HR on our phones within a couple of months, if this thing gets released on time.
ok i don't know what world u guys living in that you got time to sit at mc donalds and play games? :S Don't you have any work or some important stuff to do?

Lol so you post on an XDA forum for the Xperia Play - a cell phone that doubles as a portable video game "console." You obviously enjoy the device. So you're going to sit there and tell me that you only play games on your phone when you're at home, where you don't have the ability to "enjoy your life and your friends?"
WTF are you talking about? Why would you have this phone if you didn't enjoy gaming on the go? How is adding more games to the library at all something anyone would not want?! You baffle me, sir!

You're wrong sir I DO enjoy games. I play small games, like one race of Asphalt on a break. Or 5 minutes Muffin knight or something like that. But i don't wanna jump in max 5 minutes only to play Call of duty or something like that. IF i wanna play a serious game, i want to play it for minimum 45 minutes, and i don't have 45 minutes free when i'm not at home. That's what I mean. You get it?
In short, I want to use my Nexus 10 to play games on my Windows desktop, on the same network. I have a 5GHz router + Gigabit Ethernet, so the connection should (hopefully) be fine.
There are only two programs that I'm aware of that should be able to do this. Kainy, and Splashtop 2. Both programs have their own issues though.
With Kainy, if I use anything above Fair image quality, either the top or bottom-half of the screen on the N10 will be corrupted. Also it seems there is a decent amount of audio delay (video is fine, audio is behind), and the framerate on the N10 seems to drop drastically randomly.
With Splashtop 2, it works for the most part, except input is always treated as a tablet. For example, with just my N10 at all, if I try turning the camera on any 3D game, it will "spaz out" and go every which way and not behave as intended. If I plug in a USB mouse to my N10, it will do the same exact thing (I guess mouse input on Android is still seen as touch).
Not sure if there's any known fixes for the above issues I ran into (if there is, I'd love to hear ) but is there any other programs available that might help me be able to stream PC games to my Nexus 10 at decent framerate?

It is, but the app works (and can be purchased for) on the N10 strangely...
In any case, the THD version "does" work, but it puts a virtual joystick on-screen for camera controls it seems (I only tried it with the WoW profile). But touchscreen and mouse turning were still an issue.
I emailed Splashtop 2's support about it and they said it was something they were looking into.
The Kainy developer mentioned on his forums that the next version should fix some issues, which I'm hoping will fix the issues I'm having.

It's just streaming, not actually on the device. So you could play WoW or other games away from the computer. I used it for D3 and some fps games.

It would be nice when I'm not in-front of my computer. For example, I walk to a friend's house almost every weekend, and dragging my entire Desktop along is kind of a pain. Essentially, I would love to just be able to Stream games from my Desktop while it's at Home, to my tablet (which is far easier to take) There's also a coolness factor I would think if I would play some Guild Wars 2 from a tablet
Also it would be nice around the house too if I wanted to play some Dota 2 if I was downstairs or something lol.

I have spent days trying to get something working and honestly nothing will work. Splashtop would be fine if it would accept the controller input better, half the time the code goes across as gibberish. I haven't tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.rdc.android this yet but it may work better.
