Looking for a stable rom. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I know this subject has been beaten to death but with the evolution of all the different ROMs it is tough to try them all myself. I have a tmous Hd2 and I am looking for a rom with a few things that are becoming very important to me. My girlfriend and I are having our first kid pretty soon so my priorities are changing. This is what I am looking for.
1. A great camera.
I need it to be clear, fast and stable! No FCs or lost pictures. I need to be able to access it from the lock screen to be able to catch those really quick cute moments.
2. A good video recorder.
I need it to capture video's that you can see as clearly as possible with our phone. Also I would like it to be able to play them back on the phone as well as ANY computer.
3. A very stable phone.
I am out and away from home alot and I need to know that all of my phone calls and text messages and emails are getting to me.
4. Android based of course. That is why I am posting it here! I like the android os.
5. Not really as important but I would like it to be nand only so I can swap out the sd card whenever it gets full without worrying about loosing anything.
Everything else doesn't really matter to me. It could be plain old froyo for all I care just as long as it just works!
Thank you.

The Most Stable/Customizable ROM??

Hey all...I was wondering what people thought was the most stable/customizable rom out there? I'm currently using CM7 stable..and not to happy with it at all. I usually use MODACO's ROMS and have been very pleased....I just want something new, and fun...Any suggestions?
If you usually use Modoco, and have tried CM7, I guess only thing left to feel something "different & customizable" is the latest Miui.
Very stable and fast for me, and there are a bunch of themes. I highly recommend using Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher, as the built in launcher is what turns people away and in my experience is the source of instability. You can even cherry pick any aspect from between themes using the built in Theme Manager. Oh and on the latest version, I got 37 hours of normal use .
It's quite different. On MIUI now because I like the animations and built in exclusives:
File Manager with awesome indexing and great FTP
Music App is nice, scrolling lyrics are a cool feature
MIUI Gallery is slow at times, but lets you easily hide and unhide media folders.
MIUI Cam is nice too, reminds me of sense camera.
Phone/Contacts/SMS app are awesome as default android is lacking.
Lockscreen is visually nice.
I dislike the default launcher and the search!!
Niether are better, CM7 or MIUI, its all part of the fun of owning a great android phone. You get bored after a few months, you switch it up!
If you want stable, go CM6...

MIUI is nowhere near stable or bug-free. At least on Froyo it wasn't. And I don't believe that changing to a buggier Gingerbread as a base added stability to it.
If you want fun - go for it, in the worst case - keep your nandroid at hand.
If you want stability - stay with Froyo ROMs, CM6 or Enomther's. But it won't be fun then.
Yeah, I'm one of the people that have an amazing experience with MIUI, but others aren't so lucky. so like the guy above
Miui for new, fun and customizability
CM6 or Enom for guaranteed stable.
I've also had a great experience with MIUI. But, u'll only know by trying/flashing!
Thank you to all who responded. CM7 is going okay for me. I really like the customized features. But I'm having a terrible time with the Bluetooth feature. Every time I'm on a call, either the end user can't hear me or they hear static. I tried changing my kernel to REDSTAR, but yes, it made my phone screaming fast, but still I have the BT issue.
What do you all think of KANG-0-RAMA ROM? I'll check out the more stable roms you guys mentioned. I'm not a fan of MIUI only b/c I dont like the iPhone look. But what do you all like about cm6? and I emother? Can you all please list what are the pros and cons of those two?
AGAIN THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Same for me wrt MIUI. Kinda think it stands for Mimic Iphone's User Interface ;p. If I wanted an IPhone, well u know the rest ...
I've been using CM7 since nightly #3 and been lucky that the wonk has generally stayed away. (I just jinxed it, didn't I .....)

Stop being lazy!
If you use ADW for MIUI or reformat/repartition sd card--wipe all several times-- and do fresh install--use VM Heap Tool and set it at 48--the new GB MIUI is very stable for me.
I use MyBackUp Pro to bu home screens etc and restore--so it didn't take long to get back up and running
Take a look to this room http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061648 I have been using it for a couples of days and it is really stable, I don't know that kind of customization do you like from cm7 or modaco roms, I used too but they have too many problems.

thats odd... sleeps for almost everyone else. might be an app that is constantly keeping your phone awake or your sync settings are really frequent. which would go hand in hand with battery life.
Hearing people say MIUI is stable blows my mind. I've never used a buggier rom... it's quite nice when it works though.
I find that since 2.3, there hasn't been any stable roms. I'm hoping CM 7.1 is better, as I find CM7 pretty bad.
I'm using CM 7 ExtremeMod 16.5.2011 + a2sd. so far its very stable and battery last long.

dhd

anyone can tell for a perfect rom for dhd fully functional
Start here or here.
It's best you choose and try for yourself. Check out some screenshots too from the rom threads for style/experience ideas. Plus a couple of screenshots in my sig.
I've tried most of the ROMs in the devs section and I have to say that the Virtuous Unity ROMs are the most complete for me. It looks the business, runs fast and efficiently, and is 99% fully functional from first boot. The 1% left over is the best part about it though as this is fixed with patches almost instantly showing true commitment from the ROM developers and supporting devs in the very pages of this forum. The additional patches sometimes available not only fix problems but help improve the VU experience itself, ie, bulletproof tweaks.
Hopes this helps!

Ive been running cyanogenmod7 on and off since i first rooted (about two weeks ago) ive tried MIUI amd a couple of sence roms. leedroid and er3bus by jsl but keep going back to CM7
i think im going to stick with CM7 for now.
Best thing to do is just flash a few and see how they go for you. Everyone is different everyone likes different things.
fully functional, including dolby mobile and camera is deffinatly Revolution HD 5.2.6 and 6.1 except the small camera bug.
I am using 6.1 now...
I'm really into MIUI at the moment. (1.8.26 because 1.9.26 has an Android Market crash bug for some people.) It's quite a different visual experience all the way through.
I especially like the Launcher transition effects (cube), the option of up to 9 homescreens, the style of the popup windows, plus links to cool wallpapers etc. The only thing I didn't like were the ringtones so I installed the CyanogenMod ones.
The first time I tested it - I wasn't into it. I was CM7 for a long time.
EDIT: The Android Market bug mentioned above is actually addressed and quickly and easily fixed as per the FAQ.
`Just go to Menu > Settings > System > Language & Input Settings
And change your language to English (United States)'
+1 MIUI was the ROM that I was on for the longest of time. The support of the community is huge and there is an update every friday so you dun really need to check out the forum every now and then to see whether an update is out
It is a very stable ROM for everyday use and the newest version' kernel should be quite battery friendly as I am getting 2ma drain on standy which never happened before (Previously it was 4ma) and this is with WIFI + 3G + facebook + google sync on every 15 minutes.
Funny I just set my phone up with miui yesterday just to give it another go. I'm really liking it so far. (Don't think I'd fully set it up the last time before ditching it.)
I'm not a fan of the ringtones tho how did you install the CM7 ones?

Yeah I was the same - I don't think I set it up and gave it a chance before when I tried it.
To get the CM7 ringtones - download the CM7 rom (which is just a zip/archive file). Double click it to open it and go to system - media - audio - ringtones. Copy any or all of the ringtones you like.
Then on your phone - SD card - MIUI - ringtone - paste the ringtones.
Then you have a cool phone, rom AND ringtones.

Got it sorted. Thanks man.

I took MIUI off again. I charged my phone on Saturday night took it off charge about 8 on Sunday morning and by lunchtime had 50% battery, I'd only sent 3 texts and made one phonecall (which didn't connect) it could have been leedroids kernal as I was trying it out too but as for now I'm back with CM7

Sense 3.5/3.0 compared to 2.1

I am currently running NilsP Business Sense 2.1/3.0 and i was wondering what performence hit i'd take if i plunged straight to 3.5? I used early 3.0 ROMS and they were painfully slow.. I was wondering if they were the same now.
My 3.0 rom is fast. Just doesn't sound like there's a whole lot more to a 3.5 than a 3.0 so I couldn't tell you my experiance as far as speed with 3.5.
Nils Business gingersense 3.0 v2.1
Sorry, but ALL Sense 3.x ROMs drag sorry ass on this device. There's no way to get around it. The software is just too muscular for the device. You end up with a crazy amount of vm being used, and since NAND memory is some pretty slow stuff, the lag becomes something best measured in full seconds.
^^ what he said.
and anyone who claims their 3.0/3.5 roms run "super fast" and "lag free" must never have run a stock incredible lol because the stock inc is how this phone is supposed to run (sense 1.0)...sense 3 is waaaaaaay too laggy. the one thing that always pissed me off is the notification dropdown menu lag. sometimes it would take up to 5 seconds for mine to drop down, even when i was just idling doing nothing. very annoying.
The 3.5`s are pretty, but sloooooww comparably. Even with nothing added application wise, and overclocked, they lag. No reflection on the (any) developer, it's literally bunches more software for the device to attempt to utilize, when it's built for less.

Well, I will point the finger a little at the devs. As usual, it seems like the push is only for the latest and greatest, neglecting the upkeep of decent older ROMs with older Sense versions. In the past that hasn't been a real problem, but with the advent of Sense 3.0, finding regularly updated 2.1 and older ROMs is hard. At some point they NEED to realize that this device isn't a dInc2, Tbolt, or EVO 3D and cut the crap with Sense 3.x+. Sense 2.1 with some 3.0 elements really is about as far as it should go.
I thought Joel's Sense 3.0 ROM on this was crazy fast. Then I used a 3.0 ROM on my inc2. Big difference. At the stock clock speed my phone still has no lag on my current 3.5 ROM.

But what's this about we don't upkeep our older Roms? I try to keep at least my Hybrid Speed update. I've had six Roms publicly ported and released. Hybrid Speed was my second Rom. In fact Hybrid was the most recently updated, even updated after my Desired Inc Rom. People are still using Hybrid Speed and still leave nice comments and send nice PM's about how they like it, so I guess I'm doing something right there. Thanks to everyone who showed support for me and my Roms as well!
I think a major part of rom development is with these updates and everything, we can work on them and fix them up until there almost flawless. Once we have done that, the development for that Rom is pretty much done. Depending on how far the developer wants to take his rom. Well mods and everything else. Most of the time what mods are in my Roms when I release them is actually how I use them and how I have my own set up. I like to leave everything else up to those people who just use the Roms.
One thing I've noticed. All the older Androider's tend to find a Rom/Dev they really like and they stick with it. At this point in the game they KNOW what they want in a Rom and what to expect from Roms currently on the board. All the new guys like to flash everything under the sun. Just proves that just because [insert name here] releases Super Rom V.infinity which just so happens to be blend between iOS, Android, WM, webOS, whatever they call BB os, lol, and then finally BREW mobile doesn't mean its the best choice for everybody. Its just that though, another choice.
Until then everybody should just continue using what they like and keep reporting bugs and always try to leave feedback and comments about what they like/hate about the Roms they use.
Man, I hope nobody thinks I actually have or am trying to make a point here. I'm just thinking out loud as usual.

There was a huge eating of memory, until I installed AutoKiller which allows you to edit the limits of ram and on an aggressive profile, the Rom is now very well usable.

Why would you run 3.5 from the SD? That's gotta be really slow. I'd probably run something like OMGB or CM from SD but leave 3.5 on the system.

Are you using Conap's Boot Manager?
I this k many of the left over issues present in these roms aren't necessarily the dev abandoning it, but rather they can't fix it, either because it would take too much time or they don't know how/can't figure it out. MMS over Wifi is a big one on the 2.1/3.0 hybrids. I've seen many devs try to fix it but they just can't.
Like Stang said, once a rom reaches Nearly Flawless state, which is everything is fixed minus the persistent issues across all similar based roms, its development is completed. These people don't get paid to sit for hours to make every little thing work on our phone.
I think this fact causes frustration among users, that life isn't kittens and rainbows and we can't have the latest and greatest working like a champ on our aging hardware. Its not the devs fault guys.
Choose CM7 or a sense 1.0 rom if you want stability and speed. Anything else will always have little issues that frustrate you.
As for me, I like to use one of these newer roms until I get frustrated by these little issues, then go back to CM7/1.0, then once I'm bored with that I go back to a newer sense rom... Rinse and repeat

ok, so I'm running a 3.0 sense rom in the Nils rom I have. There is no lag between home sections. (I don't have the 3d tilt accelerometer feature on of course) and as for the pull down, I will agree, sometimes it does lag, but I hardly ever use the pull down anyway, and my case doesn't make it easy to pull down anyway. I usually go through the menu button/notifications to have the pull down come down. Other than that...what lag is this you speak of? I also don't run a live wallpaper very much in order to help out the battery life a little as well. So maybe thats where some lag people are speaking of is being caused?
Maybe its just me, but I'm not experiancing heavy lag with my 3.0 rom and I am even running the latest kernel. I will agree however, if you want the fastest most optimized rom for a dinc, then get a stock rom of course. But the 3.0 rom I'm running is running smooth.
I'm Running Nil's Sense 3.5, and I love it!!
(if you have tried other Roms, make sure you follow his whole wipe guide in his Sense 3.5 post 1)
I love the speed of this rom! If you are happy with 3.0, stick with it, but I love the way the email looks and works in 3.5 (it's a little snappier, and allows for more customization)
While his 3.0 was pretty fast, I find 3.5 to be just that much faster.
Plus, gets even faster if you use Tiny's Kernel!
but when you compare either 3.0 or 3.5 against 1.0... 1.0 just sucks!

Sure its right here, lol--->
I'm using Nils 3.5, and while there is some lag here and there, its a good, stable, and fairly snappy ROM. I also have V6 Supercharger (way aggressive) and the GingerTiny kernel, and that helps.
Maybe I'm just not expecting as much...I knew it would be slower than stock, but I feel its worth it for the enhancements.
But, to each his (or her!) own.

[Q] A fast ROM with good experience?

There have been quite a few discussion on which ROM is fast and stable and all, but it seems all of them are quite old and dated back 2010. It would be really grateful if someone can help finding a fast ROM from the latest list.
Following is what I'm looking after:
1. It should be fast (little or no lag)
2. All the feature of the should work (directly or through some hacks) like camera/hotspot/flash
3. voice call from google talk? (I think it can be done only after version 2.3.4)
I don't want fancy graphics or any particular latest version like ICS (but obviously, the latest the better ). I want something which gives a *good experience*. Probably many of you are using such ROM, can you just state some of them?
I tried stock 2.3.3 ROM but it was always laggy and after certain point of time it became really really slow.
The complete list of ROMs are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849278
From there I tried MIUI V4 FoR X10 which is decent but I think any MIUI ROMs would be bit heavy for the hardware of X10. Also many things like cam/flash/hotspot/gtalk voice call do not work.
Hello vagabondrules!
You will receive a large number of answers because everyone interprets the things you ask a bit differently.
For instance I don't care if I can't play games because I use my X10 mainly as a business tool. I have 62 apps
installed and the only thing I require is for them to work obviously and the rest of the system to function without
lagging too much. I only found this in DonutHD with Doomkernel. I have a few problems with my data connections
(rare and random restarts) but besides that everything is as I expect them to be for such and old phone.
Hope I helped,
Nick
Hi Vazelos,
I pretty much have the same requirement. My main requirement is to use it as a phone with occasional internet access and as a temporary camera. I just want to have what this good old phone can offer with its hardware.
So which version of DonutHD do you have? Does the camera and tethering work?
Btw, did you try FeraLab ICS V4? Seems like its pretty good and stable too.
Anyone else?
try donuthd 2.2.9, its better then 2.3.
all working.
if you need tethering, dont use ics. its not working.

What ROM is everyone using as their Daily Driver?

Hey Guys!
I am pretty new to the world of flashing ROMs, and am trying to experiment as much as I can! I recently rooted my phone (myTouch 4g) to escape the HTC Sense bloatware and kind of escape the gingerbread environment and use custom ROMs that people have developed. Of course, I've had my phone since 2010, and its been working great since. Not looking forward to getting a new phone anytime soon (it does what I want it to do well).
That being said, I currently am experimenting out CM7.2, was curious to hear what ROMs people who use the myTouch 4G as their daily drivers use. I am considering trying out one of the ported CM10.1 ROMs later tonight.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you guys!
~Darkgiants
Last Cyanogenmod 7 nightly.
I might also recommend Coderzs 4.2.2 Slimbean, Team Inferno's ShenduOS 4.2.1, or my AoCP 4.2.2 lol.
For ICS I recommend Synthetic Nightmare's AOSPx. Also I'm porting a CyanogenMod7 Type of rom, but with more features
Whatever I tried to install on it (including few JB-based ROMs) I always go back to CM7. Anything else is either less stable or uses battery or something is not working well (like camera on JB).

I use Albinoman's 8/24 build of AOSP 4.3 / CM 10.2. It has a few very minor issues but in daily use I find it's very stable...
too stubborn
Too stubborn to use CM7 I fought installing it and keep working with SlimBean 4.3 even though it is still buggy, well mostly for me. I should just back down to 4.22, but hmm here comes that stubborn issue.
I was on a small vacation, and now am about ~7 days till I move into my college dorm and start my college life. Here are few things I figured I should mention:
I am currently using the CM10.1 AOSP JellyBean ROM by albinoman887 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40665477), so far, its been awesome!
Though, there are few concerns about this ROM as a daily driver:
1. The battery life, it really does die out way too fast. It obviously is a concern for me, being in college, I would like to have something mobile and something that can last me an entire day without having to plug my phone into a charging unit. Of course, I was not expecting a perfect ROM for battery life that would be capable of running the latest Android, so all in all, the battery issue evens out, and should not be a shocker to anyone trying out the ROM.
2. I currently am running everything off of a 8GB Micro SD card, which is now full (I am waiting for my 32GB card to come in within the next few days), but when I do use apps such as SnapChat, or Instagram, it prevents me from using my camera with various errors every time. I suspect this to be the full SD memory card, I will make sure to post an update on this issue.
3. The ROM itself is FAST. I mean FAST. It really sets a definition of "multi-tasking" on the myTouch 4G.
There is a new September update for this ROM (I am going to install this update once I get my new SD card) and will also touch on how the update is, and what was resolved. As of right now, this ROM is beautiful, does require a bit of elbow geese to configure the settings to your likings, but that is the payoff.
I have tried CM7 briefly, escaped the ROM, its the most stable ROM anyone can ask for, but I personally don't want to go back to Gingerbread.
Thanks a lot XDA forums for allowing the opportunity to mess with our phones!
I bought myTouch 4g about 2 years ago. Sense Rom was installed for most of its lifetime; mysense (stock), Sense 3, then Sense 3.5, and now sense 4.1. Currently using ViperTouch 2.1.4 sense rom it is the most stable sense rom I found where all the hardware are functional. Battery life has not bad when keeping in 2G mode. I switch it to 3G with I need to browse something. Before ViperTouch I used CM 10.1 from albinoman887 for about 3 month to try out JB, it was really smooth and clean lightweight. I decided to go back to Sense after headphone heatup, camera and mic not working properly. I tried out CM 10.2 Android 4.3 albinoman887, it was smooth for the most part, but i couldn't use it as daily driver same 10.1 issues were resolved. So Sense 4.1 ICS is my current daily driver.

I am using AOCP now but currently looking for a bug-free ROM.
As far as I know, there are still a few bugs in 4.2.2 including:
1. Headset heat up when plugged in.
2. Green line in camera.
3. Signal drop after a missing call.
4. Camera flash delay.
Is there any 4.1 and above ROM without those problems? Please let me know. 1. and 3. is really annoying to me. Thank you!
I am using PAC rom . it's really awesome

I think AoCP only has the Signal Drop?

Yes, but it's a little bit annoying so I'd go back to a bug-free version
And somehow the game I'm playing (Rage of Bahamut) doesn't display right in some screen.
Tried ShenduOS and everything looks great. Until I find the 'phone' is not working, lol.
Hey guys!
So, I have been rocking this current ROM for a while now! I must admit, I've had few problems recently, but so far it works and gets the job done. I am now in the process of debating if I should revert down to one of the most stable ROMs for this phone (CM7.2) or to continue rocking this current ROM and try to see if I can help in terms of fixing current issues.
My classes start tomorrow! I will post an in-depth update on my issues this weekend!

Keep an eye on N_otori0us_, he's been really making some moves trying to fix 1. 2 you usually see patches from OP's in thier thread to fix it.
At least you don't have the screen flicker bug also.

If you see a bug in my roms. Tell me lol.
There's a fix for green line that coderzs made. And the. 64 is a temporary fix for the headset heat.
Not sure what else to fix though...

putting work in
I was referring to how you are trying to fix the headset issue overall, not how you have any bugs in your roms.
Now I've been using PACman_GLACIER 19.3 for 2 weeks. Very stable, fast and no bug (except sometimes when it boots up, Link2SD notifies me to hot reboot to make SD partition mount)
You should check out the links in this thread.

Especially those of you who like ViperTouch. They are from a Chinese forum so you'll need to translate but the ROMs can be set to English on setup.
I might call it an end with my current ROM... it is currently becoming way too unstable for my abilities as a daily driver. Current issues include:
1. Battery life - I literally drop from 100% to 60% in a matter of 2 hours only using Wi-Fi for browsing the New York Times.
2. Phone screen flickers when locked (may be linked to battery life)
3. Certain apps that require a camera just do not cooperate
4. Green like in all pictures + picture quality not the same versus when the ROM was installed freash
5. Crashes and freezes a lot
Overall, this ROM was good, but as time progressed, its performance decreased as well.
Currently about to try Albinomans latest Jelly Bean ROM, or even try out the AoCP rom!
