What's the significance of EOL? Just simply that you won't be able to purchase them new anymore?
Wow, I got my Evo launch day 6/4/10, and have never had it replaced or had any of the hardware issues I've seen others complain about/report. I love my Evo.

It has the best screen aspect ratio, and great visual resolution (biggest icons).
Just did a speed test compared to the 3d it sends and receives twice as fast.
If HTC and Sprint don't have a line item replacement with the same characteristics ... see ya later.
sad, to say the least. my evo is coming up on it's first birthday , i may wanna grab one more brand new before it disappears into sprint heaven.......

It's perhaps their best seller up until the iPhone 4S and new Samsung Galaxy phones came in.
I just had to have mine replaced and sadly ended up with a refurbished one. No biggie though. The EVO 4G is perhaps the best phone they've had at Sprint. I can't wait to see if there's a new HTC phone announced during the MWC for Sprint.
I device 'truly' hits EOL when the development stops, and I mean we have ICS. We're good to go for a while guys.
October 2011 called they want their news back lol, evo 4g went eol just before Halloween meaning no new shipments of phones from HTC only leftover stock of new phones rest are all refurbs
We are legion, for we are many.

Guess my crystal ball was broken, but either way - that link was posted on the web the same day I posted in this post. Dated January 25, 2012 7:57 am. Don't you think if it was on the list back around Halloween, SOMEONE else would have posted it SOMEPLACE on XDA??? I do, and its not anywhere...
Moving on, and I quote - "the latest leaked EOL list is coming from Sprint and has a few key devices included."
Get over it dude, I was just passing on the info.... you're welcome...

Sad to see. I've had the same Evo since day 1. Love this darn phone. But, luckily, like the other posters have said, as long as the devs here keep developing for it, it's not EOL. At least until the Galaxy Nexus is available!
I am just curious what they would replace with it, I have to get mine replaced so now I know to do it ASAP. Does any where keep track of what ends up becoming the replacement device if one becomes damaged after EOL and they have depleted there refurb stock.
There goes any chance of an official ICS Rom

We wouldn't have 4+" screens or 4G without the Evo. The most important smartphone release in the last few years for sure.
I believe the HD2 was the first 4+" screen, nearly identical HW to Evo. In fact, devs have WinMo (native), Android 2.2,2.3, & 4.0, AND Ubuntu/Linux, and WinPhone7 running on it (multi boot)!!! Pretty amazing stuff, there.
But still, yeah, the Evo has been one wicked machine. And we were lucky with amazing devs from day 1 (toast, virus, lithid, etc). Its been fun. And continues to be, with devs still bringing ICS to it/us.
And post about EOLd twice due to badassery.....lol nice

Asurion has been replacing them with Evo 3ds, in many cases. There's a thread here in General about exactly that, just saw it yesterday. And apparently sprint has sent letters to 30,000 customers/ex-customers trying to get some Evo 4gs back to use for refurb. Lol (I personally prefer the OG to the 3d by far,..don't like the narrow screen or materials used on 3d).

Tell me about it I miss that phone alot haha. It was so cool Dec 30th 2010 when we were finally able to run Android on nand. I showed that phone off alot. Windows phone running Android haha.
Then later down the line CLK recovery came out so the phone would go from splash screen straight to boot animation no more MAGLDR screen haha.
But before that I was hooked on Energy winmo roms. Good days...
Evo is still an awesome phone no complaints what so ever. We have Roms for days.

i don't care what anyone says this phone is revolutionary and in my mind still the best on the market and until they make a new evo that has the same screen size (not skinny like the 3d) and keep the look almost exactly the same as the 4g we all know and love this will be my phone of choice :')

Well I just sold my Samsung Epic and everything that goes with it. Just like my departure with HTC Hero and the HTC Vogue, I will let y'all know what my decision is for my next device.
I am going to CTIA in Orlando, Florida and I will be at the invitation only Sprint Event, so I'll get to see the new devices they are announcing. Depending on my use with the devices, rumors are HTC Evo 3D and Nexus S 4G, I will make my decision.
I am kinda leaning towards HTC Evo 3D because of it being HTC, which I now realize is better then Samsung, and it is 3D!! Without glasses.
But, the Samsung Nexus S 4G will be supported by Google and always have the latest software. So...it will really depend on which one I love more. Heck the Nexus S might end up being dual core!
Anyways, I'm sorry for the departure. I will still try to provide all the software I can get my hands on, and I will keep you updated on my status.

Well I have been defending Sprint and Samsung a little too long. I am going back to my HTC Vogue for awhile. Yeah, that old thing
I have been a HTC man from the start, but they disappointed me on both the HTC Vogue by leaving out OpenGL driver and then on the HTC Hero by ending it's support early for it, and never releasing 2.2. That's why I went to Samsung. I was hoping that the best phone by FAR would get excellent support. I was wrong.
I want to test out LG and Motorola Android devices, but Sprint isn't getting any GREAT Moto or LG devices, like the Atix/Bionix or the Revolution or the Optimus 3D. I'm with Sprint til the end. I will never switch to another company, unless T-Mobile and Sprint merge because I envy GSM devices ALOT. I don't care what happens. I love Sprint and I love their prices. I never have had a problem with them. I know I'm a Sales Rep for them, but I'm being completely unbiased here.
LG is still new to the Android game, so their support is undetermined. Will they be another Samsung/Motorola? Or will they be a HTC/Google? How about I just not take a chance.
From now on I will only buy Google flagship/supported devices or HTC devices. Sadly all the great devices from both of those go to GSM, except for the HTC Evo. The Evo blew away everyone and broke all the records. Now Sprint is probably going to do it again with the HTC Evo 3D or the Google Nexus S 4G.
Nexus S is Samsung, but it is Google supported. It will be the first CDMA Google device, if you don't count the Xoom, which I don't. The HTC Evo 3D will be the most supported by Sprint. Sprint will defintively be pumping money into that phone like no other. That's why I said I will really need to take some time and think about whether to choose the Nexus S 4G or the HTC Evo 3D. Both are going to be highly supported, the Nexus S more then the Evo 3D just because it's Google's FLAGSHIP CDMA device, but the Evo 3D will likely be the second device to get all the updates just like the first Evo did.
It will all come down to which one I like more in my hand. I will be writing a review for all the devices I try out on BriefMobile.com, and I will include my decision on which device I decide on.
Nexus S 4G vs. HTC EVO 3D
Which one will win my heart for the next 6 months? We will find out in 2 weeks when I get to see them up close and personal!
EDIT: Major +1 is Netflix support too. I have had Netflix for the past 5 months and I cannot live without it. My next phone must have it or else...

I really would like it if we could get some attention out there for it, even if it is just purely pointing out that it exists, and that a specific Sprint / Samsung combination has it.

If you have both, sell the Evo first. I would have loved to keep my Epic, but I need money and I want something else. Something with more support too.
The price is still being negotiated, but it is basically a done deal
I'm suprised that you would even consider an lg. those and htc are the most returned phones because people break them constantly. My wife went through 3 htc moguls and an htc touch pro in 6 mths and she is not hard on her phones at all those brands are garbage. I would suggest a moto phone tho if sprint ever gets one. The nexus s 4g does look inticing.....
Are you happy with your phone still? Are you waiting for possibly a new LTE phone in 2012? Or just waiting on your upgrade?
Just curious to see what others thinking about their phone. My phone still works great, but being the geek I am. I'm itching for something new. The E4GT looks like a sweet phone, and supposedly there's a fix for the LOS that developers got their hands on.
Waiting for something that would be a real upgrade, so far I've been very happy with my evo, thanks to the devs here. Until sprint releases a LTE device that's killer spec wise, & has some decent development going on, I'll stay with my OG. I've had my evo since it came out, and its totally because the devs here keep my evo fresh & interesting.

3. waiting for sense 3.5 = Got it
I guess I'm waiting for my contract to be up. Then I will consider something new, but I see no need right now for what I use the phone for. The next best thing isn't always the best IMO...

My upgrade isn't until August 2012. There should be a bunch of new phones released between now and then. The Galaxy Nexus and HTC Edge or other new quad core phones look intriguing, Iphone 5 (probably not I like the personalization options Android has). As long as we get an ICS rom it will feel like we're running the latest phone though, at least for now.
my upgrade isn't until March, so I'm sure a lot of new phones will be out by then. But if I had to pick right now, I'd either get the GS2 or leave Sprint for the Galaxy Nexus
i cant decideeeee, i dont know if i should get iphone or wait for early 2012 to upgrade
i do want GN not sure if sprint will take their time like they did with Nexus S
for now will keep the EVO going since we have great Devs... and recently swtiched prl to verizon and its working great/better so not sure why switch anyway
time will tell

We're comin from a pure power source.

Honestly, it's going to take an awful lot for me to upgrade. There isn't really anything I want to do with a phone that I can't already do with my Evo.
Hardware Acceleration is going to make ICS run really well (even on older hardware), and I expect that the specs in the Evo will allow it to continue on just like a modern phone. Bluetooth, front-facing camera, etc. will continue to make it a contender.
I will be sticking with mine (not counting an accident) for at least another generation until Nexus Next is available, and then consider based on hardware and Android J+.
I would maybe go for that Nexus S (sexy thang). However, there aren't any phones offering me my Death Ray flashlight and kickstand, so...the Evo stays.
I do have 2 bright spots on my screen though, which is annoying.
Im due for upgrade on 2 evos around February. The only thing I really like is the samsung s2..
That phone will probably be 99 but the time end of Feb comes around..
Who knows though, I may just hang tight without a contract..
Waiting for my contract to end. Hopefully network will be working better by then.

I am very happy that I bought this phone in July 0f 2010. I was not happy with the broken GPS and laggy performance of 2.1, but if it was not for the phone's problems and my frustrations with waiting for a fix from Samsung I never would have discovered XDA. If you think about it, these same problems presented a challenge to the dev community, it became an ongoing project that became fun and brought together a real "community" around the Vibrant. Now we are all enjoying ICS on an "obsolete" phone. Amazing! Thank you Team Whiskey for Bionix, Einherjar for Trigger, (I never used any GB Roms because I use GPS a lot) and now I have Neobuddy to thank for fully working GPS with ICS....
I was reading another thread tonight started by someone who hard bricked his Vibrant and called T-Mo for a replacement. They told him they were not supporting the Vibrant anymore and he was very bummed. He was persistent however and was overjoyed when T-Mo sent him a Vibrant. A few more people chimed about how Vibrants are not as easy to get now.
Like I said, a great community!
I think a lot of old users are upgrading and so there's a fair amount of used Vibrants on the market for a good price. Buy a used phone with no warranty and naturally the first thing to do is mod it
I bought a Vibrant just because of ICS Passion...and the fact that the HTC Sensation doesn't have an AMOLED screen.

Got mine for $180 off eBay. It was already rooted with CM7 and unlocked. Only downside is that the battery was sort of drained (solved by an Anker battery for $12 though) and there's some bumps and scratches on the bezel.
There's also a seller selling a brand new one for $300 rooted and unlocked. It's a great deal compared to even some of the newest phones out there.
I'm an avid Vibrant users and I've been using XDA for quite some time. I hate the new posting rules but I can deal. And ICS is really sweet as ICS(s)
I have had my Vibe since Oct 2010, I have been looking for a new phone and really want a Nexus but will not buy new without warranty. Right now I am quite happy with my Vibrant but really want a bigger screen with higher resolution. I also want to be able to turn the GPS radio on and off without having resident process draining the battery. Before anyone says go back to a 2.2 or 2.1 ROM, I just can't do it. I have tried but I just can't go back to an early OS build. I can't even go back to a GB ROM since I have had ICS. All earlier OS builds just feel to antiquated. To me it would be like going back to Windows 98 because there are a few DOS based games that don't run in Windows 7 X64.
With that said, I can fully understand why we have new users. The Vibrant is still leagues better than any new mid-range devices and can run toe to toe with all but the Newest High End phones that came out late Winter last year. I will be sad when giving up this very trustworthy device when I finally do. My wife will get it after me so at least it will stay in the household.

I've had a vibrant since December 2010. Found one for myself and my girlfriend from shady backstreet dealers in Houston for $230 and a brand spanking new one for $250 . I've been flashing it since shortly after I received it. Bionix was solid. I was a bit disappointed with 2.3 roms in general and then ICS passion came out. It is the best ROM I've ever used hands down. I've yet to see the stutter that sometimes accompanied 2.2 and 2.3 roms. Apps maybe take a tiny bit longer to load than on CM7 but the general interface is so damn smooth it makes the occasional app launching non-problematic.
Now if only Swype would get updated to be compatible with ics...

NO. YOUR DOING IT WRONG.
you forgot to water it. anything with roots needs water to be kept alive. unless you want a brick. water it. definitely.
Well, actually the ICS neobuddy put out is what brought me here. I've learned quite a bit over the last could weeks. Root\ICS has really brought new life to my phone.
So, now that my beloved Shift 4G is pretty much dead in the ground, how do the other current Shift owners feel about the Samsung Epic 4G Touch and the Iphone 4S? I am thinking about upgrading.

Those phones are downgrades...
And... The shift isn't anywhere near "dead in the ground"... We just had at least 3 new roms released in the last month... Sounds real dead to me...

I personally don't think any phone is truly EOL until developer support stops. I'm sure there will be sense 4.0 roms out sooner or later for the Shift. That said, having used to E4GT I find it very underwhelming. The S2 line as a whole wasn't as awe inspiring as it should have been... Not to mention samsung build quality sucks. As for the iPhone... Its an iPhone. A good phone if your willing to bend over for Apple, personally would never move from an Android to an iPhone, too much of a backward leap. Probably should wait for the EVO One, I think that's supposed to drop in June sometime

Both of those devices, the SamSUCK ,and the ITurd are just truly GARBAGE. I have had to repair both, and have owned several SamSUCK devices ( DARK DAYS) . No thank you, both are a huge downgrade. Also just because a device goes EOL, does not mean it is dead. Look at the original Sprint HERO. It's still has a strong following. The EVO4G same thing. The Touch Pro2, I can go on. IMO hold on to the Shift till HTC steps up, and gives us something we want.
At least wait for the htc one x to come to sprint. Because then we should have sense 4.0 out for us and it gives more time for u to pick a new phone

For the love of Gawd do not get the iphone 4s, drob is right it's a complete fail. "We added android notifications, ota updates, and voice search (siri)", all things android has had for a long time! There's a app called everfriends on the market that does the same stuff as siri.
Now the title of this thread really cracks me up. "No ICS or Sense 4" but you think you can get that on a iphone 4s? *smh*
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my Shift and I LOVE Android.
But, if the damn phone keeps failing, and I can't get a replacement from Sprint, what's the point of holding on?
What I love the most about Android is QWERTY, removable battery, and removable memory. I HATE Apple and Steve Jobs. But, if HTC is only going to build Iphone clones for now on, why not just go with the real thing?

Once you go use the Android OS you will always hold regrets when using an iPhone. At LEAST use a windows phone 7 device . Even then though.... Wait for the EVO One buddy. (or buy a cheap EVO 3d unopened on Craigslist. That's what I did to tide Me over when I moved from the shift to the og EVO)

Xdandroid is still in development for many devices released before or with android. In some places development never dies. I know I will be happy with the shift until a quadcore slider comes out. May be a long and happy wait lol.

Except the NS4G. Owned 3 of those, and they all SUCKED. Dropping calls all the time, no 4g reception where I can connect fine with my Shift, and random switching to 1x in what is a solid 3g region.
The only Samsung I ever owned was the original Instinct and I thought that was the ish! After that, I upgraded to a HTC HERO, and no sooner, the SHIFT!!! I am not eligible for an upgrade 'til Nov. So plenty of time to see what's out there...
i think i might get an evo lte. also, i haven't experienced failures. i had a new screen put on after a 7 foot fall onto carpet made 15% of the touchscreen not work (which was weird), but nothing but a good phone for the last 1.25 years.

Just an update:
I got the Photon Q LTE and I am LOVING it.
I think I'll like the Q myself. I've looked through the Photon Q forums and haven't seen a sense 4.0 port yet though.

I like the Motorola Photon Q also. One of the issues I have with it though, is that it is a Motorola .
If you really want a new HTC slider I really suggest doing the following:
Send an email to [email protected] and tell them you are thinking of cancelling your service and how dissatisfied with Sprint's current product line.
State there is currently no phone to upgrade to from the Evo Shift (no ICS slider) and that you are thinking of going to Verizon and getting the Droid 4.
You will get a call from "Dan's team". Please reiterate and stress these facts.
HTC won't make a new slider unless Sprint asks for one. Petitioning HTC is pointless.
Anyways, 29 calls later (don't ask) after getting my "early upgrade" letter and a $65 credit on my account and emailing [email protected] here I am, still frustrated. Waiting for my contract to run out and looking at a Droid 4 at Verizon (the company I paid $600 to get away from).
After my phone call with them I asked if they would follow up with me and they said "No, but we'll take your feed back in to consideration".
Anyways, I think this is the right place to be yelling at.
I noticed recently that there is no slider in their current lineup and realized I am going to have to be very careful with my shift.
I'd help you out, but I'm not going to call them and tell them I am going to cancel when my contract expires.. 14 months from now... (I didn't get any early upgrade notification)
Here's the problem. Sliders are not in high enough demand to constitute Sprint spending the money to have a slider by any manufacturer. There was a rumor of a Sammy slider but it looks like that never came to fruition.

Most sliders are not separate, individual designs; they are successful models that have been modified slightly to to have a physical keyboard and sliding screen. It is much cheaper for the manufacturer (and consequently the carrier) to tweak existing designs over commissioning an entirely new design.
If our collective petitioning gets noticed by Sprint, it'll be more of a "Okay, let's throw them a bone to keep them happy" move, rather than a HTC One X sort of decision. We will probably have to wait for 4G LTE phones to mature and become slider candidates, but I have faith.

Actually they are. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I go to a spot in the mall that puts screen protectors on my phones and was asking the guy if he got a lot of Evo Shifts and he said a lot of Shifts come through his stand.
Again, HTC manufacturers what the phone companies tell them to make.
If Sprint said "Make the Evo Shift LTE" HTC would make it in a heart beat. If 100,000 end users told HTC to make the Evo Shift LTE nothing would happen.

Although I don't disagree, and thats certainly a possibility. (Samsung and LG have been known to do this, I think.)
What was the HTC Evo Shift based off of?
Looks like it might be some sort of meld between HTC Evo and HTC Desire Z, but really it's, it's own phone as much as any phone is. [All phone are going to share design as much as they possibly can]
Interesting:

From what I can gather, it's an Evo with Desire Z and Hero elements. A little more than the "tweaked design" I was talking about, but nowhere near a total redesign.
Interesting link on HTC's plans for the future. It looks like they're shying away from keyboards... both physical and virtual
It's rumored that LG is working on a Viper with a keyboard for Sprint (say what you will about LG quality).

What's your point? We all took economics in high school.
We'll see a slider. I dont think we will see it any less than 6 months from now though once the LTE runs out of its awe and wow factor

Then you weren't paying attention. Sliders are a thing of the passed. Get over it or just buy a bunch of EVO Shifts so you'll always have a back up when your outdated phone keeps dying.

ahahahahahaha +1
I prefer htc, but if lg produces the pictured phone from that post, htc would have a hard time keeping me! 5 rows? Yeah, I miss the dedicated number row from my g1.
And as far as what this phone is based off of, I sorta followed it though the development stages. I'm pretty sure the g2 was first, then they began development of the merge that was supposed to go to vzw, and then the shift. From what I remember, they all run pretty much the same hardware. When it became apparent that vzw wasn't getting the merge, I was tossing around staying with tmobile for the g2 or move to sprint for the shift. Honestly, one of the main points of the time that brought me to sprint/shift was the reports of the g2's crappy hinge. Lol. Now, I'm glad I made the transition. I like my shift, and hella prefer sprint to tmobile!
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
And than we also have the desire z which is also thrown into the mix of merge/shift/g2... Funny thing is that shift, g2, and desire z are all eol yet all are still regularly developed for...

Just my two cent, but look at the amout of (wimax) 4g phones tht got released while the network was still taking off, including sliders. I'm considering emailing [email protected] to let him know how disappointed I am with the shift. I love this phone but they keep sending me bad replacements (re-furbs). Not to mention they are all on back-order leaving me with malfuntioning devices until the next Malfuntioning device arrives lol.
