[Review]Some Xperia Styled ROMS(for new members) - XPERIA X8 General

Hi Guys....
For All The New Members Here is the list of some ROMs that have Xperia look.
I am just telling My experience on these Roms.
**XGIN 6.1+6.2
Android: 2.3.7
Theme: Live with Walkman(v6.1) and Xperia mini new(v6.2)
RAM: Stable Average Free RAM, Best multitasking(Swapping will Amaze you)
CPU: Highly Responsive
Battery: Excellent
Kernel: Stock, Alfs supported
2D: 212 (Quadrant)
3D: 378 (Quadrant)
Pattition: Ext4/3/2. I am using EXT4, its fastest.
Conc: Daily purpose ROM, best ROM, best for Hard multitaskers(After swapping 500mb)
**Stornmix 2.2.0(only)
Android: 2.3.7
Theme: Xperia Theme with changed background
RAM: Stable and More Free RAM, good multitasking
CPU: highly responsive
Battery: Excellent
Kernel : Stock, Alfs has mounting problems Even with update.chargemon+vold.zip
2D: 256 (quadrant)
3D: 383 (quadrant)
Partition: Not Supported ???
Conc: Unique ROM, Fast ROM, there is only bug for me like sometimes hanging up when long press power button.
**GingerCruzt
Android: 2.3.7
Theme: Stock Xperia
RAM: Less Free RAM(due to almost all xperia apps), not much Stable, average multitasking.
CPU: Highly Responsive
Battery: Good
Kernel: Stock,Alfs supported(v8.4), nAa supported (v8.5)
2D: 210 (Quadrant)
3D: 368 (quadrant)
Partition: Ext4/3/2
Conc: This ROM has features of Xperia mini. But less multitasking and less battery backup makes it average Rom. Swapping is Must for this ROM otherwise poor multitasking.
**GingerXperia
Android: 2.3.7
Theme: Xperia Mini
RAM: Stable, Average free, Good multitasking
CPU: Highly responsive but with overclocking.
Battery: Excellent
Kernel: Stock,Alfs Supported
2D: 204 (Quadrant)
3D: 355 (Quadrant)
Partition: Ext4/3/2
Conc: Rom is Fast if I don't Change performance setting under cyanogenmod settings on Stock kernel othwise I will get this ROM laggy on stock kernel.
On Alfs kernel its pretty Charming ROM.
Q: Why These Roms Are Slower?????
Ans: The Roms which are Xperia Styled are somewhat slower than ordinary styled like GDX and MiniCM7 (not talking about 2D performance but of overall performance).
Reason:
1. Timescape as it requires 20 Mb for running with its widget. Even if you don't use widget then its extensions are running in background....causing battery drain and less free RAM...so less multitasking.
2. media widget This service runs all the time on the Rom even if you are not using it.
3. Photo widget This service also runs in background sucking Battery. And you will feel the Xperia launcher a little bit laggy in sliding when this widget is added to it.
4. Walkman When this application running then Cpu frequency is always 480Mhz and above.. So less services to other applications. Hence..sluggishness
Solution:
Use other music Applications from market like PowerAmp etc and delete walkman.
Delete timescape and its all files(extentions, )
from /system/apps/....It has 7 files.
Delete photo widget & media Widget.

EDIT: Thread moved to right Section.

Wrong section, but excellent post!

Yeah really useful post like for me.
now my conclusion is Xgin is best among these. As I am still using it.

Is there anyone who tried latest linuxperia Rom?? Please send me a PM about its performance. I will update this List.

How about the weather widget, does that affect performance?

No its not. Its ok.

GLBenchmark Results!

I've tried to overclock, lagfix, change roms and kernels, but I didn't see any big difference.
I would like to stay with real FPS benchmarks like GLBenchmark or others not like quadrant.
I've seen many people using ext2 instead of ext4, other say rfs is better, so I'm getting very confused. And also many people around here.
Each one of us has got a personalized SGS. Let's run each one of us GLBenchmark OpenGl 2.0 test without FSAA (The one of egypt) and see the results of each one of us.
Dlownload glbenchmark here: http://www.glbenchmark.com/download.jsp
Please specify model, rom, kernel, launcher, running apps, free mem before doing the test... Like every bit of info you can give, so we could find the best settings!
Thanks to all ! I'll run the test and post in few minutes!
Ok, here is the template 1.0 to use ;P just copy and paste and modify!
OK, got:
2438 Frames (21.6 Fps) with no fsaa.
My settings:
MODEL: European, I9000 SGS 16gb Vodafone
SPEED (GHZ): 1.0
LAUNCHER: Go Launcher
KERNEL: Lastest speed mod.
ROM: Darky's 8.0
LAGFIXES: On, System converted, on fast mount.
PROGRAMS INSTALLED: Very few, just wiped it.
FREE RAM: I forgot!
OTHER INFO: Wifi on, and overclock @ 1.2 makes worse FPS.
Lagfix will have no effect on glbench
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Bench marks do not say how responsive or laggy the phone is and unless you are obsessive with numbers are a waste of time .
jje
yes, but games performance is equal to FPS, so more FPS=More optimized system.
Just because that reason i proposed to use glbenchmark, as it is an only graphical test.

Fast and smooth MiniCM9

I've installed nAa's MiniCM9, and managed it to be superfast. I've decided to collect the tips and tricks that you can use to increase the speed of your phone. It will run like hell, but i can't say the same about the battery So if you want a (relatively) longer battery life, im afraid this thread isn't for you.
1. After you installed the rom, supercharge it with V6 SuperCharger by zeppelinrox
howto: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
i've chosen 256+ HP super unledded
2. Use swapper
howto: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445543
a 128 MB swap file in my case
3. At the performance settings use the following options:
CPU: 748 Mhz with smartassV2 governor (this is the most stable for me, but you can experiment with higher CPU clock), and set on boot of course
RAM: zRAM 18%, and turn on purging of assets and KSM
Turn off Surface dithering, and use 16bit transparency
4. Use Apex launcher instead of Trebuchet (or ADW/LauncherPro if you don't persist the ICS experience).
note that if you change the launcher, you have to run the SuperCharger script again to make the new launcher also die-hard
5. With a root exprorer (e.g. ES file explorer) delete the unused apps from system/apps directory. Stay away from apps like Facebook, whose eating a lot from your precious RAM in the background
Enjoy your good old X8 running ICS, reaching 1800+ points at AnTuTu benchmark and running real fast and smooth I hope i helped. Have fun!
nAa, all of my respects is yours keep up the good work!
thanks for sharing.
or you can just refer to this thread

Would be better sharing your comments in the established thread above.

For discussion GB VS ICS in performance ..

Hi all
i used a lot of ICS roms here but it seemed to be bad in gameing and not fast as the GB ..
Is this the problem of ICS ????
when I use GB i play a heavy games with no problem , but in ICS it is laggy and i need to overclock the cpu to play .. even though still laggy ..
also in the performance , i see the GB is much better and smooth than ICS ..
I am now back to GB but I missed the ICS ..
It will be better if there is a hyberd rom that is contain GB and ICS togather ..
so in your opinion : what is the problem ??
is it from ICS ?? or the arc is weak to get good ICS ???
Neither the arc, nor the arc s is too weak.
Let's take my HTC Wildfire S as instance:
600 MHz SC CPU
512 MB RAM (400 useable, btw this is more than on arc (s))
CM9 runs perfectly smoothly. Also the new xperia lineup has 800 MHz phones which have the new timescape gui and ICS.
I think the problem are insufficient drivers or just a *****y programming with memleaks.
The amount of free RAM is also a reason.
everyone has their own definition of what is smooth. as for me, i define it as:
1. Fling of homescreens and applications on stock launcher is solid iPhone-like even with widgets on a non-live wallpaper. The smoothness that would not let you think of Jelly Bean at all.
2. Basic applications critical for phone use like Contacts, Messaging, Browser should also be as smooth as number 1 above.
3. Temple Run Brave while in the gameplay, no lost frames and instant response on swipes. Reason is not for gaming, but means the phone will behave smoothly on heavy processing.
Since everyone has different opinion on smoothness, nobody can tell that their phone is smoothest.
What I can say though is that on any ICS ROM I have tried, nothing meets my 3 criteria above. Hence I stick with Gingerbread.
I am critical and allergic to laggy interface / phone. Destroys the experience, makes you insecure of other phones.
I installed "Jellybread" by omenHTX today and it's great Gingerbread Stuff! You should give it a shot
After so many bad experiences with ICS I am really glad someone focused on GB again
Greetings!

I was thinking about it and I think the problem is from Sony itself
maybe they give us a garbage update to feel that our phone is outdated to Chang it ..
UI Smoothness is more than acceptable on Arconium ICS but the phone is simply just too slow in the performance department, so it lags a lot - on both ICS and GB. Stock GB was just a small tad faster than Arconium ICS and significantly faster than stock ICS.
The biggest difference was the animation smoothness though, because the phone lacks performance under GB too - the processor runs at 100% for a few seconds until it launches some heavier apps, and with ICS even basic apps like youtube became heavy.

Jelly bean vs gingerbread gaming and performance

Hi everyone I am currently running the NXT LE rom v1.3. I have tried various other roms but I find that this is the best one so far. Can you guys compare various roms and see which is better for gaming and performance, Jelly Bean (with new adreno drivers) or Gingerbread. Thanks
Every one list:
Kernel
Rom
Take Antutu Benchmark of your rom
from my experience, gingerbread is still the best android version for the xperia play
NXT LE with gin2jb theme,
Latest doomlord gb kernel
At 1017 Mhz
Score: 4288
Thinks too that a modified gingerbread is still the best choice for my Play. I saw that some guys got a bit higher Benchmark score on JellyBean but that doesn't mean that it is better for gaming. I really wish that more devs would pay more attention to GB.
Doomkernel v.14
DiXperia2
Antutu B. 6161 @ 1.8 Ghz.
Um........good point. But people are saying that with the new Adreno drivers that ICS and JB for gaming are better than GB. I only use my xperia play for gaming, so I have been looking for a rom designed for gaming, so far the best is NXT Light in my opinion. If anyone finds other please post

Come now, let's not keep talking about 'I think that, I think this'.
Let's start showing from numbers from Nenamark 2, since it's purely gaming you guys want. When you're done, just delete/wtv.
Let us start with a few ground rules:
1.0GHz Performance governer ONLY.
I/O schedule = whatever since it shouldn't matter much.
State whether you're using GB/JB.
Here's mine.
[JB]
1st run : 30.7 fps
2nd run : 31.4 fps
3rd run : 31.4 fps
4th run : 31.8 fps
5th run : 31.5 fps
ROM: SlimBean by cj360
Antutu
--1Ghz
Total : 5005
2D : 522
3D : 1950
--1.8Ghz (to align with above post clock)
Total : 6330
2D : 538
3D : 1959
I have a locked bootloader so no fancy kernels or overclocking, but I'm sure it could serve as a base to compare performance.
Nenamark 2 [GB]
First run: 14.0 fps
Second run: 13.6 fps
Third run: 14.0 fps
Fourth run: 14.2 fps
Fifth run: 14.1 fps
ROM: Xperia NXT Light Edition by Kris Dee v.1.3
Newest Adreno drivers for ICS/JB makes a huge difference albeit the RAM consumption is higher.

WOW!!!! Your scores are much higher than mine and "aitmanga"'s scores. So I guess JB is much better for gaming, right?
Now I'm quite skeptical about that methodology. x2 more fps? I don't think so.
Anyone have any other idea on test methods? Antutu and quadrant scores aren't really useful unless you state the graphics score breakdown.
Edit: updated previous post with antutu for what it's worth.
I installed the SlimBean rom and tried Gta 3, it is no where as smooth as the nxt light rom ive been using, but the benchmark is like 29!!! Which is more than double my score on nxt light, but in real life performance JB is not as good as GB!! Even though the benchmarks show that it is
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Well, some games are bottlenecked by the GPU and others by the CPU. There's no general rule like 'if one game doubles its framerate, every game should be the same' so GTA3 can be CPU limited.
Probably Nenamark is very GPU intensive and a optimized GPU driver can do wonders but each game has its own CPU-GPU balance.

I would have agreed wih u and up unill i came across jb slim I thought that nxt light was the best jb slim bean it the only rom which is really come near to perfection the only downfall is that u cannot record but u can use the camera to take pictures via app from play store for free. and all the other features work to perfection u can overclock to 1.6ghz to play certain games which are too slow to play 4 exmple modern combact 4. also u can download games from google play store for free which arent even supose to be working on xperia play like shadow gun dead zone and all this is not even he best part when u flash it normally u get atleast 550mb internall free well thats becasue how small the actual rom it self is also this is the least laggyiest rom plus if u like to listen to music then it has apollo music player bonus points so despite the loss of the recording feature it overall makes up in compare to every other feature. :good: if u are inerested i personally tested it on xperia play r800i alos thishas been tested on r800x the link to this is if u are intersed that is :fingers-crossed::highfive:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35493383
for gaming i recomend - Jellyzeus (JB) or CM9.1 (ICS) - both can run GTA VC really smoth on low settings (25%distance / 50%textures, all other low or off) ...
if you buy xperia play for hard gaming, i recomend - NXT Light Ed. - its best...
but if you play games like wheres my water / angry birds, and want JB, its a good choice...

NEW TEST My big Kernel benchmark on i9001, 4.1.2, cynanogmod ivendor alpha 10

NEW TEST, benchmark+battery
Hi, its me again, i post new test, benchmark + battery. There is here no all kernels (i want test battery life time!) , but most popular. Tests are make on cyanogen ivendor 10, no clean system, with a lot of apps on background (like polish GG-messanger, skype, mail, pdoid patch for system etc).
Theoretical, on clean system, ivendor cyanogen 10, brood kernel OC, very clean system antutu benchmark shows 7092, but this is no normal use, i prefer benchmark and battery use on no-clean system, with all apps on background what i use normal (what i mentioned before).
[1]
Castagnal 10.2 kernel, smartAssV2, 1209mhz
Battery: 6/6
Antutu Benchmark: 5831
Problems for normal use: XBMC, HD vids dont play fluency, never reboot
[2]
Castagnal 10.2 kernel, smartAssV2, 1802mhz
Battery: 4/6
Antutu Benchmark: 6425
[3]
Nexus Kernel V8.0, OC, exUV, smartAssV2, 1824mhz
Battery: 2/6
Antutu Benchmark: 6264
[4]
Nexus Kernel V8.0, OC, exUV, smartAssV2, 1209mhz
Battery: 5/6
Antutu Benchmark: 5488
Problems for normal use: XBMC, HD vids dont play fluency; caller id for incoming calls shows in 1/2 s, not immedietly

Brood Kernel 1.4 - OC
Kernel BRICK MY PHONE, always on new cynogen
[6]
PhenomKernel by Erik v1.2.4 , smartAssV2, 1824mhz
Battery: 4/6
Antutu Benchmark: 6566
IMO, best fluency on XBMC (HD stream movies plays very fluency) and whole system, sometimes reboot
[7]
PhenomKernel by Erik v1.2.4 , smartAssV2, 1204mhz
Battery: 6/6
Antutu Benchmark: 5591
Problems for normal use: XBMC, HD vids dont play fluency;
MAIN RESULT: the best kernel for normal use is PhonomKernel, or Castagnal kernel. 1,2-1,4 Mhz on procesor, smartassV2. The better performance is for PhonemonKernel, but sometimes very rarely it reebot system. Normally i use phonemonKernel, cause i has significantly higher performance on normal use, and i could fast with widget overclock processor when i like see television by the XBMC.

OLD test:
Hi, i would like to present my big-) test of kernels,
I use:
android 4.1.2, cynanogmod ivendor alpha 6 and a lot of diffrend kernels and make test twice, and take average value. Normal, no-clean system, with some apps on background, i i use normally

Re: My big Kernel benchmark on i9001, 4.1.2, cynanogmod ivendor alpha 6
Nice test!
I would be interested in the battery drains as well. A fast phone is nice but if it couldn't last a day on battery it's not an option.
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9001
I have battery some for some kernels..
brood kernel, 1800, smartass 2, battery work time is the same as stock cyanogen kernel, works good. brood kernel make sometimes phone reboot.
castagnal.kernel is very battery drain. and camera don't work good on my phone on it. vendor luizactive
Diablo kernel I don't test more than some hours... and can't say something serious about battery work time.

i will make new test, battery time work, * benchmark, all kernels from xda, new ivendor rom, non+clean system with apps i use (pdroid, gg-messangfer etc)
if u want
+1 for the battery tests; for me if a kernel runs like the wind but drains my battery in hours, there is no much point.
New test, plz comment, not all kernels, because i want test battery performance very good
upgraded test

Thank you very much for fantastic benchmarks. I haven't actually tried PhenomKerne, but seems to be the best hands down. I wonder if it would work on my Japanese SC-02B...
