Ok so I recently rooted my phone after a lot of trouble, before rooting I was really excited and impatient thinking of the possibilities I have if I rooted but now after rooting I feel like a fool as now after rooting I don't have any apps that only rooted phones can run except Market Enabler which I don't use that ever often making me feel a little stupid.
So I wanted to start this thread so people can Co tribute things you CAN, SHOULD DO OR INSTALL AFTER ROOTING
So let me start of to say Superuser is a must have app, like literally must have or else your not rooted. Another app is Mobile Odin Pro which causes money but is worth it as it allows you to upgrade new roms as they are released still while maintaining your root and data (after I downgraded the rooted then used mobile odin to upgrade to new room my smemo drawings are no more there, there are still in the folders but its not read by the application, any idea why it happened)
Systemapp cleaner is also a must have as I deleted a lot of stock apps I don't use at all
So you guys leave comments to suggests things that can be done or installed only on rooted phones (lets make an exclusive thing so the non rooted phone owners are jealous )
Composed on my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium app
The reasons I root after install a new ROM are:
- Use adfree to block online adds (saves 3G data too)
- Remove the camera shut sound (annoying and stupid)
- Be able to backup everything and modify files in /system/app if needed
- Clocksync is another favorite, although time got from cellullar provider should be exact enough.
root explorer
mybackup root
adfree
those are the 3 main ones i need root for
Just adfree for me...and mobile odin pro for convenience.
- Mobile Odin Pro
- Change the density
- Freeze/delete system apps i don't want/use
That's about it at the moment.
- Titanium Backup
- WifiKill acting funny in front of family and friends
- Installing new Arabic Fonts

- Mobile Odin Pro (too good for easily flash what you want);
- Set CPU;
- CPU Spy (wonderful, it shows you how your CPU works so you can modify CPU parameter as better for you);
- CWM for nandroid backups.
So that's it?

I would like to remove the following built-in application:
- Zinio (it's way outdated and doesn't work - Android Market have newest version but this will note replace the built-in one, so I have TWO Zinio reader)
- Kindle (I can get one from Android Market which is newest)
- PressReader
- Polaris Office
- MyLibrary
- MyCloud
- Layar
- FileManager
Obtain root access and delete it from /system/app/ using ADB/TitaniumBackup/FileManager/etc
use Search on how to root your TF101, I recommend using NVFlash.
As he said above you need root to remove these apps.
Here I will help, I used the root method below and it took 10 mins to do.

Also this video helped a lot too.

Thanks for the help all.
I am now rooted, so the next steps are:
1). Go to /system/apps
2). Delete the offending apps
3). Done.
That's it? Is there any apps that should NOT be moved because of its integration with Asus?
I had bad experiences with my Thunderbolt where I removed the Verizon Backup app and my Thunderbolt croaked.
Don't forget to use the thanks button
The first thing I would do is a backup that way if something does go wrong you not dead in the water.
As far as what apps are safe to remove I haven't tried to remove them but if you plan to install a custom rom most of the bloatware is removed for you.

Not that I know of. Everything should be good, if you have Titanium Backup Pro. Just freeze the app and see what happens If all goes well, uninstall it using Titanium Backup.
So i was browsing market apps yesterday and ran across ROM toolbox (formerly Liberty toolbox).
After downloading it I was amazed at how much more functionality and options it brings to the table when compared to ROM manager.
Basic Comparison:
ROM MANAGER
Flash CWM
Reboot into Recovery
Install Rom from SD Card
Download Roms and Check for Updates
Install from QR Code
Manage and Restore backups
Nandroid backup
Fix permissions
Partition Sd Card
Pro Price: $5.99
ROM TOOLBOX
Download Roms and Check for Update
Install Rom from SD Card
Manage and Create Nandroid backups
Wipe Cache Data Dalvik and battery stats
Change battery Icon and System Fonts
data and system app manager (unisntall , freeze, clear cache etc
app backup and restore
Batch apk install
Set min/ max CPU frequency
Scaling governor ( performance/powersave)
Sysctl config
Minimum free memory taskiller will keep
Zip align system and data apps
Fix permissions
Run custom scripts
Mount /system as writable
Block ads via hosts file (who doesn't like this)!
Enable disable boot animation
File manager, Change LCD density, Change VM heap size
Change wifi scan interval
More stuff that I skipped
Pro Price: $5.00
In a nut shell, its like ROM manager combined with ad free, titanium backup, set CPU, and root explorer for only $5.00
I know people around here think that ROM manager is the best thing since sliced bread but was curious to see you guys opinions on ROM toolbox.
Anyone have the pro version??
Your right...it rocks!!! It can even enable powersave on setcpu!!!
Agreed, will definitely purchase the pro version.

So you're comparing apples to oranges, I don't see the point.
ROM Manager is an application designed to flash zips, install ROMs and make full nandroid backups from inside Android using CWM recovery.
ROM Toolbox looks like a set of tools that might be useful if you're rooted or using a custom ROM.

Actually no, ROM toolbox makes nandroid backups and flashes ROMs too, only with a lot more options and functionality. So its apples to apples my friend.. Or oranges to oranges
Looking in https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox it's supposed to be able to flash ROMs too hmm
Just downloaded it, nice...
Has anyone tried Root Toolbox. There is a free and a pro version.
Looks like a great app.

Both are very useful because of total different Apps. But you could compare Absolute System Tool and Root Toolbox
Form is temporary but Class is permanent. I love Liverpool FC.
Phones : Motorola Backflip Cyanogenmod 7.1 & Motorola Atrix Cherry Blur
Thanks for reminding me about this. I had found it before we had the unlocked boot loader and most of the options weren't applicable yet. I am definitely going to go grab this right up.

I am glad you guys have found this useful. I will update the OP later with a side by side comparison for the non-believers..
If anyone bought the pro version I would like to know the differences between it and the the free because I am certainly contemplating buying it myself.
I downloaded it to try it out, but it turns out I'm missing busybox.
I'm rooted on stock 2.3.4, unlocked bl.
I thought the Atrix came with its own busybox installation, or am I wrong? I seem to recall something posted by designgears that it had it in its stock rom.
If not, would installing busybox from the market be safe?

I dont think stock ROM comes with busybox.
But you should be fine downloading "busybox installer" from the market. Mine is installed to /system/bin and everything works great.
The creator of ROM toolbox also has a busybox installer app. Get the one by jrummy
Either or:
https://market.android.com/details?id=stericson.busybox&feature=search_result
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer&feature=search_result
Both Busybox are alright to use.
Wow, toolbox is great. Im thinking about getting pro with my next paycheck. Any feedback from anyone with it would be greatly appreciated.
Mobile Glowy Atrix.
ya I have the pro.... haven't done to much with it yet cause I Do Not have my Boot Loader Unlocked so I've been cautious on what I try.. Are there any features included in the pro version that are not in the free version?? Just curious, but it looks like I'm going to purchase it either way.
Also, what are you waiting for???? get to unlocking that bootloader !
Its a great application and the dev is fantastic. The bad thing can't download ATRIX roms yet because it isn't supported fully.

Rom toolbox is great but what is the one thing you need for flashing roms... Let's see uh RECOVERY, which rom toolbox doesn't give you so it really is comparing apples to oranges
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
It's more like comparing the features that utilizes "Recovery" because you don't need Rom Manager to get recovery either. Actually, the fine people here at XDA had a working recovery before Rom Manager's CWM was working on the Atrix.
The beautiful part about this is we all can make our own choices.

Those of you rooting your TF101, why are you doing it these days? When I had my old GTablet, rooting was a necessity because the stock configuration was just so awful. Plus, the geek in me just loves having control of things. But, to date, I've never felt a need to root my Transformer or flash a custom ROM onto it, as it's always been "good enough," and I didn't feel like breaking OTA was worth it. The only exception might be my desire to change the hardware keyboard layout to Dvorak so I can touch type on it.
But, now that apparently you can root without breaking OTA, and the potential of getting JB a bit early via CM later this summer, I'm thinking about it again. What other advantages are some of you reaping from being rooted these days?
I would say that rooting a stock rom is minimally useful (unless you have the knowledge to do modifications like many on XDA). I would suggest a custom rom like AOKP because:
1.The speed and stability is amazing.
2.You tend to get updates more frequently.
3. Overclocking
4. Titanium Backup
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
1. Debloat- dont want to have apps that i dont need or can't uninstall on my device.
2. Titanium backup- being able to back up all of my apps in case something happens or when i flash different roms
3. Adblock
4. Being able to flash AOSP roms if i want a cleaner experience of android with tweaks created from source and being on the latest android version.
5 Overclocking
Updates still available after rooting if you read lizard's thread. It the same as OTA but this update is flashed via CWM. Beside this..
1) Overclocking
2) Titanium Backup
3) Droidwall = firewall
4) RootExplore = freeze unwanted apps
5) CWM = fun and life saver
6) Run Apps that need lucky patcher which required root
I rooted so I could install Debian in a chroot environment. Connect a keyboard and mouse and It's even better.
1) because i can, ive always hacked, root or jailbroken my mobile devices all the way back to rockbox and the old toshiba gigabeat and creative zen vision m.
2) custom firmwares are much better then stock
3) titanium backup
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Since I'm running a (mostly) stock firmware, everything boils down to:
Titanium Backup (both to freeze Asus bloatware and to backup apps that disable the built-in ICS backup system - ie. adb backup - in their manifest)
ClockSync
OpenVPN
NFS (to a lesser extent, I still have to rebuild the kernel and a modified busybox binary with XDR/RPC support)
adblock
freeze CMClient and DMClient
access the crash dropbox in /data to retrieve logs related to ANRs and the like
(yes, I do have CWM as well, but I pushed it via nvflash and then used it to root my device and flash guevor's kernel and the updated nvidia codecs, not the other way around )
So I could change the physical kb layout to Colemak
So I could remove all those awful Asus apps
If I could do both of these things without root, I'd happily stay unrooted.
Cause all the cool kids are doing it.

How did you go about changing the physical keyboard? Did you manually alter the mapping file, or is there a good tool for it?
Fix Asus problem
I had that bug where my tablet would randomly go into a boot-loop and drain the battery. I would go to use it and the damn thing would be dead... and it happened quite a few times before I broke down and rooted/flashed a new rom. Problem solved.
Overclocking and added features were my main reasons.

There are some layout files specifically for the TF dock in /system/usr/xt9/keylayout/ specifically qwerty-en_GB.kl (for UK) or qwerty-en_US.kl (for US) (..etc) that are thankfully plain text files. Just edit them, reboot and enjoy your new layout!
Took a while to work out because I had been editing the layouts in /system/usr/keylayout to no avail.
I'm typing in colemak with it right now, well worth rooting for
titanium backup alone is enough reason to root for me.
Out of reasons already exposed here, I rooted my devices because I can install a firewall which disable on demand wifi/3G/phone access to application. Very useful for applications which have too many ads or too aggressive ads
Titanium Backup... Plus it's fun to tinker with your device.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The reason why i rooted my tf101 was because i wanted to try some custom roms and kernels. I usually hate it when i get a new device and its bloated up junk apps and settings. I also like that i can tinker with it and try to get maximum performance without sacrificing battery power.
Also i hope a nice Jelly Bean rom comes out for the tf101 so that it can finally have smooth animations and look plain beautiful.

-Greenify:
Prevents (wakelock) apps from running in the backround when device is idle, to save battery life.
-Perfect App Lock
Protects your system and applications with a password.
-Root Checker:
Checks if your device is rooted.
-ROM Toolbox:
The ultimate root tool, features apps like: rom backups, rootbrowser, cpu gov, buildprop editor, theme manager, bootloaders etc.
-Root Browser:
A great filemanager tool.
-Titanium Backup
A great tool to backup your existing applications and system files.
-Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper:
Application to temporarily backup/disable root to enable OTA (stock) firmware updates.
-WakeLock Detector:
Detects which app runs in backround causing battery drain.
-XDA App:
The official XDA App to keep in touch with the XDA Dev Community. Just included this one cuz its a must too
Just place the zip into root folder of your internal storage and flash the update.zip with CWM Recovery and everything will be installed.
This flashable file can be used with Stock Samsung Rom or CyanogenMod 10.x
note: If you wish to leave out certain apps just edit the zip folder and remove the apps from data/data & app folders.
Download Update.zip (36.5MB): http://www.mediafire.com/?cgha32b5lgwan32
Nice idea.
Thanks for sharing!
Your welcome, i use this zip when i change between roms after wiping my data/cache/dalvik, always useful to have the right root tools on a fresh device and not having to download and search in store.

I believe this is a feature already existing in stock kernels. Its what helps you save your battery when you aren't doing anything.

Yes to a certain extent, but if you monitor the system with wakelock, and a cpu monitor, it still fluctuates quite a bit, freezing system wakes is a whole other mission on its own, if you want your syncs and stuff still to work in the background.
Anybody manage to pull this of with tasker/other apps?
Edit: Kernel Tuner plug in + Tasker is the answer, just use a "A1 cpu tool" or "cpu spy plus" since they keep logging even when your phone sleeps

And Button LED does not support S4 mini
As some apps are not available or their updates sometimes not possible in the place I am currently living, China, I was looking for another third party app store and found 1mobile app. And just like some of you, traveling from one rom to another rom it was a pain to install over apps from app store in case roms got different build or even android versions, besides restoring apps by titanium backup causes some problems in some cases when I tried to restore my apps. After a while using and searching in 1mobile application I saw a very interesting feature which let me backup my apps by creating a folder called "onemobile_backup" without their data or messing around and restoring apps quickly.
So you can follow my tips if you are interested:
How to Backup
1- open 1mobile app and go to settings
2- go to end of settings option and hit Auto install and give root permission
3- and again hit Auto install and check if it enabled successfully
4- go to "Backup" and check every apps you like to backup
you can also update backup of any app, on "Backed Up tab": lower version in front of apps indicates that you have newer version available so just hit on small "x" behind the app (this would delete backed up app) then switch to "Available" tab and see that newer version is there, again tick and make a backup of new version.
How to Restore
If you already gave root permission skip 1,2,3.
1- open 1mobile app and go to settings
2- go to end of settings option and hit Auto install and give root permission
3- and again hit Auto install and check if it enabled successfully
4- go to "Backed Up" tab
5- tick every app you are going to restore
6- finally hit blue install button
7- wait for a little while and let the app restore your applications one by one
There maybe also similar apps doing the same but I found this app more convenient and quicker besides it's free and can update itself.
