I apologize if the answer to this already exists, but I wasn't able to find it.
I just ordered a Dell axim x51v from eBay and it came preloaded with Windows Mobile 6.1. I bought it to use with a barcode scanner. Unfortunately the barcode scanner doesn't work with 6.1 (It's a socket mobile series 7e if anyone cares to look: socketmobile.com) so I really would like to get it running Windows Mobile 5.whatever. I understand that I need to download a ROM to do that, but I haven't been able to find a Windows Mobile 5 rom. If someone could point me to a Windows Mobile 5 rom AND give me some tips on how to install it I'd be really grateful. Thanks.
uh?
Did I post this in the right place?
Get the stock ROM straight from the horses mouth:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...ormats?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&DriverId=R112544
The page has the instructions you need to flash it step by step.
Socket CHS barcode scanner works with Windows Mobile 6.1
flav0rc0untry83, the Socket CHS 7E barcode scanner does work with Windows Mobile 6.1. Depending on how old your 7E is, you can either just use the Bluetooth software on the Axim to connect, or you can download the latest SocketScan software from the Socket Mobile website.
There is a youtube video for downgrading the x50 from WM6.x to WM5. I believe accessing the SD image loader is the same for both models so follow the instructions and use the x51v images instead, which should be on Dell's website or Google for them.
Maybe you have a dated CD that only has WM5 drivers, but there appear to be WM 6.x drivers online that you can download. It says for WM 6.x touchscreen phones, but should work fine on PDAs.

Anyone using Epocrates successfully on the XDA II/ imate?
After a fairly routine installation, the the autoupdate feature of Epocrates Pro for Pocket PC freezes up in my PC and the drug databases are not installed. My PC platform is Windows Me and the imate has the preinstalled "Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone edition Version 4.20.1081 (build 13100)".
Any suggestions are welcome..
Still not able to get it to work. Epocrates customer support has offered a few simple solutions like resetting and reinstalling - none of which have worked so far.
Is there a real difference between the "Windows Mobile Phone edition" which comes preinstalled on the XDA2 versus the "Pocket PC 2003" since I wonder that is why it wont work on the XDA2?
Epocrates worked finally after upgrading to the new ROM from clubimate
ROM version - 1.52.00WWE
ROM date - 10/23/03
Epocrates support staff have been very good through all this and did refund me the purchase when it did not work with the original ROM
Hello,
i've read it in web page but can't recall where that win ce 5 is out!?
If yes where can we get it from ?? How can i upgrade my i-mate PDA2k from win2003 se to ce 5??
thanks
windows on pda's is very very unlike windows on pc's
a rom requires to be 100% made for the spc device
so you cant get it ever! unless HTC makes a basic rom and
hand it over to the operators like o2 orange and.....
and about if it's out then i've not come across any pda's with it yet
I have seen a lot of reports, comparisons and evaluations of CE5.
BSquare seem of have CE5 ROMS avcailable for their products :
http://www.bsquare.com/products/bsp/amd_download.asp
Actually, it looks as though CE5(Macallan) was realeasd in July 2004.
You can get a device emulator for it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...12-CA31-4BE9-A3BF-B9BF4F64CE72&displaylang=en
and an evaluation version of platform builder to create os images for the emulator from here :

Hi,
I am a newbie and not tech at all so I need you guys to give me some expert help. I downloaded a prog called Worldmate Executive Travel package for Pocket PC for my XDA Exec running wm 5.0. The software has downloaded and installed but when I tap on it nothing happens. I have no clue what to do so if someone can help I would be so grateful.
Thanks.
Steve
Moved to the correct forum.....
You should try [email protected] for getting support. I would say, this software do not support WM 5.0 and is designed for WM2003......
Watching on similiar products i found : WorldMate 2005 Professional Edition for Pocket PC

I have used this software for years on my Palm devices. It is very functional, and easy to use. I would have given it a 5, except that I recently purchased my first windows mobile device. ( a Dell Axim 51V with windows mobile 5.0) and now I find it is not compatible with version 5.0. When they achieve compatibility, this will be the #1 piece of software on my Axim, and it will definately be rated a 5 once again.

cheers! I appreciate your help.
There are a lot of threads about this subject but somehow non of them where able to help me to get embedded Flash in websites.
I've installed the Flash 7 ActiveX plugin, installed Flash Lite. Together and separately. Reboots, instructions from this forum and instructions from Adobe.. nothing seems to help. I use the latest PIE and Opera Mobile 8.65.
When I visit www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ in PIE I get a message that Flash version 7,0,70,0 is installed but without the embedded Flash element you would expect that says "Adobe Flash Player is installed.", like on a PC. When I visit the same page in Opera I don't get any messages about successful installations.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? If you need more details about somethings; let me know...
First post here... please be kind...
Actually, I've been looking for such a solution myself. Very easy to test my own website (www.LauraBraniganOnline.com) since I have Flash snippets on the top of each page that I purposely coded to read down to Flash 5...
Had an Axim x51v, Flash seemed to work OK... now got rid of that when I got my new AT&T/Cingular Tilt (HTC Kaiser), their latest ROM but hard-resetted and soft-resetted so I don't get AT&T's extra crap... btw doing this works fine for me.
But have Flash Lite 2.1 developer installed, had the Flash 6 installed, now have Flash 7 ActiveX installed, nothing works on any other browser but PIE (believe it or not, have Opera Mobile 8.65, MiniMo, and NetFront all installed).
Being from Philly originally, love to listen to KYW-AM news radio over the Internet, works fine on my laptop, dies on my new Kaiser... assuming that CBS coded their latest player at a Flash level higher than 7.
ANYWAY... what with all that background (are you all still awake... ), I'm wondering if there are any other back-end, side-end or otherwise workarounds to get OTHER browsers than PIE to read at least Flash applets coded for 7 or below... at least until the behemoth that is Adobe decides to actually give the incredibly exploding numbers of Mobile platform users a Flash player that actually works with WM6 and its growing number of non IE browsers. Heck, you'd think if they were so eager to push the Flash technology on everyone on the planet after buying out the much-loved Macromedia (I still use my good-ol' copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver!), that they'd have a mobile solution that actually works for those of us who still think that Microsoft is doing their own mobile users an injustice with a PIE that hasn't changed nearly at all from the old Pocket PC 2002 days...
Sorry for the rant -- spent about 5 days searching for a solution... and either I'm missing it, or it's really hidden... or it just isn't there yet... maybe we haven't bribed Adobe & Microsoft with enough $$$ to actually have them work on this...

So about a month ago I managed to acquire a Dell Axim X50 low at a garage sale. It is in great running shape and has Windows Mobile 2003 SE on it. I like having little electronics to take to work with me (I am not able to have anything more than a smart phone).
I have been doing a few internet searches, and I cannot seem to find any links anywhere to download the upgrade to Windows Mobile 5. Is there anywhere that anyone knows of where I would be able to acquire it online? I have searched Dell's support website and cannot find any downloads for it anywhere, and support for it has long been dropped. Thanks!

I don't know how up-to-date the website is but htcgeeks.com was always my go-to source for help when I had my Ax.
Have you tried this?
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails?driverId=X4F0F
It's an update to WinMo 5.0 but it might work.
Depends whether the installer bothers to look at what's on the device first.
The 33 MB size of the package looks like its a complete WinMo 5.0 ROM
Good Luck!
