So I put in a ticket about the network because I was getting around 60kbps.
Well Long be hold the tech i talked to to open it said well there might be a problem.
So I get a call today and they said they changed a few things and it should be better. It is not. I am Still getting 70-80 kbps.
And the lady told me the network is supposed to give me speeds of 77kbps down and 300 something kbps up... She said that when i told her my data speeds....
SO they admit they do not offer 3G. But instead are only a 1X company.
I tried to explain to her what the minimum 3g speeds that are required to call it 3G and she said my information was wrong.. So i though 600kbps were required for it to even resemble 3G speeds....
Well Guys seems likes 77kbps download is what you are SUPPOSED to be getting... what a waste of 15 minutes on that last phone call.... -.-
*starts to look at wifi tether more* Shove it Sprint...
Sprint is pretty much garbage when it comes to data speeds. I get 33kbs during peak hours of the day and 60kbs during the rest of the day/night. Reasons why I want to switch to Verizon. Higher prices but they have the fastest speeds and the best phones. And if I join under my wifes Verizon contract I'm grandathered into unlimited data which is great. Only issue is the overpriced early termination fee. Anyway morale of the story sprints network is crap.

Yea Sprint sucks as far as data speeds, but the only reason i went with them is the great unlimited plan, but then again what good is unlimited if you can't even surf the web or make phone calls and messages.I used to be with Verizon until they started to overcharge me,i had $1200.00 bill the first month i was with them,i called and they gave me crap about it,so i returned my phone and told them to stick it where the sun don't shine. They have a great service, but the pricing sucks, they are way too expensive.
Well since that rep was obviously wrong about what speed 3g is, I would call back and open another ticket. Not sure what good that'll do though.
Seems like it's hit and miss with data for some people. I get around 700 down and 300 up. I think that's normal 3g

Welcome to the "now network". I haven't gotten above 100kbps since October of 2009.
Would it be worth flashing a different radio? I don't think all radios work as well on all areas, so maybe flash an "older" radio and see if it is a better fit for your area. I think we can all agree the network isn't the cream off the crop, but there are other factors at work depending on your geographic area.

I switch the the 3G roaming on verizon PRL.. it was pretty much 200 max for me. prolly around 90 kpbs on average.
Now im getting over 1Mbps with verizon easily, over 600 at peak times.
I call BS on that sprint Rep the contract guarantees minimum speeds of 600 kps up at peak timesmax 2.5mb it written right on my contract and is grounds for etf free termination if u don't get those speeds 70% of the billing cycle I consistantly get 1+ mbps daily and my slow speeds are 500- 800 kbps email Dan Hesse and give him the reps Id number

That actually sounds like something to look into.
Do you have any links to where guaranteed speed rates are explicitly stated?
Also, how are you all getting your kbps?
thats abysmal. now i feel lucky that im getting the 1.8mbps i am getting now. sorry to hear you speeds are so bad

Its in my hardcopy of my contract in the fine print area never checked online but its there in black and white, you are paying for a service, and paying and extra $10 for premium data which means you should get a reasonable speed on that data I know a bunch of ppl have already used it as their "out" from sprint luckily I don't have these issues. I honestly can't complain about my service or how well the csr's are, try dealing with vzw a few times you'll wanna go homicidal, I had a vzw phone's LCD die a week after I bought it, the phone had a teeny tiny scratch from being in my pocket with keys one time, they made a huge ordeal about replacing the phone and I had paid retail for it off contract. The scratch was so small u couldn't even notice it without really looking hard, the Rep was really trying to get out of replacing the phone, it took me 3 hrs in the store dealing with 3 reps a manager and 5 ppl on a phone call to get it replaced for a manufacturing defect over a minuscule scratch. I seriously wanted to jerk someone over the counter and force feed them the phone, had an issue with one of their data cards not updating online properly as well got a 200$ overage and the online info was still showing I has 2gb of data available, the phone Rep blamed me for not keeping track of my usage saying their software wasn't accurate only an estimate, that was 5 hrs on the phone and several swear words.later before I got it credited back, needless to say I won't ever deal with vzw again they are overpriced and employ some of the worst csr's on the planet. Sprint however everyone I've dealt with has been more than willing to bend over backwards and do a dozen backflips to keep me happy, att tmo vzw have the worst customer care ever all they give a $#!t about is your $$$ and their marginally better service isn't worth being treated like you owe them something when you've already given them your wallet

this is an example of when a rep doesn't know what they are talking about and trying to just close the issue...
refer them to the site next time..http://shop2.sprint.com/en/stores/popups/compare_data_speeds_popup.shtml
It's unfortunate your speed is THAT bad, I think the area has a lot to do with it.
In Chicago suburbs (where I'm located) I see consistently about 1 - 1.5Mb down regardless of where I'm at. Maybe this market is more competitive?..
There are typically changes to the contract that could allow you to get out of your contract without paying an early termination fee if that was something you were interested in. Normally there are posts with that information any time there's some sort of change to terms, and considering you never technically signed those new terms it can be used to break your contract free and clear.
What's the best way to test speeds on your phone?
Just ran test and got 834 kbps down and 576 kbps up.
Speedtest app or tether and run speedtest.net from your browser there are a few apps but i find speedtest.net mobile to be more accurate than the others I tried
We are legion, for we are many.
I used the speedtest app. And the lady refused to tell me who she was or her I'd stating she did not have to. And yea I assume its mated out cause even at 4 am I get about 400 kbps during that time. And I tried to explain to her about the data rates and that she said it was normal and kept referring to the upload.
I told her the upload was fine but the download was in the 70kbps. At its fastest and she kept referring to the upload being fine. I was like wtf.. I got no where with her. And it was a pain in the ass. It pissed me off how blatantly she OS stupid. They are required to give you their first name and Rep ID# that lady obviously didn't know her ass from her head or she's just a douche bag, with her refusing to give her info and her asking for your account info I'd be worried she'd try to steal my identity or use my ss# for unscrupulous reasons, just seems fishy to me. I hate when I have to call about a financial situtation and I get connected to an outsourced foreigner in God knows where and they are asking for all my personal info, I'm always afraid I'm gonna end up owning a house in India or something

I jsut read about this on engadget app. They said there was a clause in the new EVO4g contract stating that Sprint, at any time, may throttle data usuage. Meaning that they are going to cut it back or limit it somehow. That sounds like they following the AT&T route, to me.
I don't own an Evo yet, but my father has one. I was thinkn about switching back to Sprint. I haven't been with them in almmost 10yrs. They didn't have any unlimited plan back then. Anyways, lol, Sprint has good deals and unlimited plans now. I'm soo stuck on what I want to do. Either wait for Dell Streak on my current carrier, AT&T, or jump ship to Sprint and get the new EVO. My father loves the fact of being able to video chat thru Fring, which I put him on to. . Lol. He said it wrks great. So I'm at a crossroads of what I want to get. Then now sprint talkin bout cutting back data. Damn. I need unlimited, like I have now. I stay with carrier, I'm grandfathered in, as far as unlimited data goes. Even if I upgrade to the dell streak. I'm worried now that sprint gonna end their unlimited data. So I guess I better hurry in decide b4 the transition takes effect.

That is all rumor, the picture isnt even the entire article. The terms and conditions already have data throttling in it, it says anything over 5GB would be throttled on any mifi/modem/phone as modem plans. NOTHING about the EVO 4g being throttled, other than the Engadget article gear twards it.
According to the Terms and Conditions online they already have it in there that they can limit any phone as modem data > 5GB a month. It also says that they CAN AND WILL change any plan data/service/ anything at any time, but scrolling down further says that if any change adversely affects you, you may call in and cancel without ETF's within 30 days of notice.
Right now, you really can't beat the EVO in terms of features.
As far as cost goes, I would say it is on par with most of the other carriers, give or take 10 dollars/mo.
I guess it really boils down to how good of service you are getting.
I just switched over from Tmo after 10 years, I think they were resting on their laurels. I don't have one bad thing to say about Tmo though. But I really had to have the EVO and it was worth the $10 dollars a month "Premium". After all is said and done, its about the same price as my G1 in terms of contract costs.
One bonus is that I will probably be able to drop my Brighthouse cable in a few month when 4G hits this area. I know there is rumors about a Cap, but I was told it was unlimited and that was the whole point of the extra 10 dollars month.
My Tmo plan was $89.99 for Unlimited Everything and My current Sprint Plan is $69.99 + $10 Premium (Only 450 Minutes to Landlines). Its a little awkward, but realistically, it works out for me. And If I find the real need for more landlines minutes, then it will just put me back on par with Tmo.
I just hope their service has improved from times past. I know Sprint and Nextel get no love around these parts (Tampa, FL).

I'm in Tampa and I am mostly in the Brandon, Plant City, and Temple terrace areas and I can tell you I am loving sprint. I switched from TMO with my Nexus One. I had decent 3g with TMO but not everywhere and when I did have 3g average was getting 500 - 600kbps on average and never above 1100kbps. Well since switching to sprint not once have I dropped 3g and I average 800 to 1100kbps and occasionally I will hit 2200 - 2400kbps. From my experience Sprint 3g is a lot faster than TMO and much better signal in the area.
Throttling is better than overage charging. I'd be really surprised if their limit is the same as AT&T's before overages (2GB). I'm holding out hope that they'll stick to 5GB.
Also, I bet the throttling cap is either higher on 4G or non-existent.
I applaud carriers that protect their non-abusive customers from the abusive ones that download torrent's/youtube/pandora 24-7.
I couldn't imagine how bad the network might get if Sprint did not do this and everyone could then replace their home WiFi internet with the mobile hotspot feature. 5gb is more than enough for any customer out there. The one's that cry "but...but...but... we signed up for unlimited! Waaahhh!!!" are the ones abusing the system.

You either offer unlimited and honor it or like ATT cap it. It is a rip off when you label it "unlimited" and then throttle it.

Personally, I would much prefer to have my data speed throttled (after reaching the 5gb cap) than to be charged extra to go over it. Perhaps have this as a choice, though, for those who need the extra speed? Seems like a much better option to me rather than only having 2GB and getting charged twice as much to go over it (even slightly).

Um, every cellular carrier in the US caps their data usage. Ever since the inclusion of unlimited data plans, they've all been capped at 5GB/month, up until AT&T decided it would be "smarter" to lower the cap to 2GB (while barely lowering prices - half the usage should be HALF THE PRICE, MORONS).
They use the term "unlimited" as a PR term, not a literal one. When was the last time you hit 5GB on a cell phone? You really have to work at it, or try to replace your home internet service with it. It's practically unlimited, because it's such a hard gate to hit.
It's like Boost Mobile claiming to have unlimited web; sure, it's unlimited, but good luck using it.
me no likey, especially being a leo user since April that was forced to sign an "unlimited" data plan...
unlimited to 5g...lol.
Okay? Seriously it's not that big of a deal, just cut back on data usage.
hardly spazzing out, just a bit peeved that the answer to lack of towers is to alter the service I am paying for and deserve.
rightly so per my contract...
maybe allow previous contracts expire that were signed before the throttling?
nah, for my $300 phone, and mandatory $30 month plan I deserve to be punished for assuming that the netty netzorz would be "unlimited".
it's not as if I want a red ferrari or one night with Angelina Jolie er nuthin'.

actually that's Tmo's answer to the problem instead of erecting more towers and honoring the contract I signed back in April...
"Sir, it's your fault we're too cheap to erect more towers, use less internet plz."
you missed your calling as a tmo phone jockey!
Agreed, we signed for a specific amount on our data plans. Now I hear I'm going to have half the data limit I signed for.

Your data is still unlimited, you'll just be throttled to a slower speed once you exceed 5gb. So likely no different to the unlimited data you had before 3g was in existence.
I still think TMO's tiering/caping is the most reasonable in the industry. At least they aren't flat out cutting you off or hitting you up to pay for another 2gb bucket like other carriers. Though maybe an option to pay up to lift the cap would be a nice option for heavy users, but that might go down the slippery slope of them going that route and being like ATT rather than the throttling they are doing now
What would actually be nice is if they didnt just flat out throttle you at 5gb but throttle you with bursting ability. that way loading the quick email or light web page will still be snappy, but if you attempt any streaming or large downloads then you get throttled down.
What im curious about that hasn't been covered much is exactly what speed do you get throttled down to? do you still get 3g coverage, just throttled. or does the throttling turn off your ability yo use the 3g signals, leaving you stuck with edge coverage?
I may just have to test it out this billing cycle, and do some very large downloads the last couple days of my billing cycle and try to hit 5gb a couple days before my cycle resets and see just how bad it gets.
Although it blows to be the "victim" of a traditional "bait & switch" by a faceless corporation, I am still 3G but downloading pages at minimum 5+ seconds slower.
Terrible? No.
Unexpected due to expectations of "unlimited" use per my 2 year contract? Yup.
I realize that OTHER providers/carriers have always capped, but um, I am not with other providers/carriers.
Tmo advertised..."UNLIMITED NET USAGE" and as a paying client who signed a contract I expect to get what I originally signed up for.
Imho I'm not demanding anything more than what I signed up for.
What good are contracts with tmo for anyways? A way for them to strongarm you into coping with their ever changing policies, or pay the ETF and have a nice life???
I really despise the "sukz to be you" policy that tmo is acquiring...

Yeah i know it sucks as far as being stuck in a contract thinking you were getting one thing and getting something else
But as far as i see legally they are still holding up their end of the contract, you are still completely unlimited in your net access. They never advertised a set kbps or mbps of service they would provide. no internet provider does, unless youre talking about a leased business class line. All your home based broadband connections are advertised as "up to" whatever speed

I get it, in order to sign contracts with multi~billion dollar corporations, you must first hire a multi~billion dollar attorney to translate the fine print.
When did cellular providers get so powerful anyhow?
Oh yeah, when we decided to "let" them by shrugging off their whittling away at our rights as the clients who pour millions into their pockets.
I say more people should contest the slow and methodical "tweaking" that surely will lead to a big brother net situation.

Download movies on your computer maybe?
Either way, you can't argue that you aren't getting unlimited data because you in fact are. They aren't cutting off your data once you hit 5GB or charging you more money when you go over 5GB. How is this a breach of contract?

As far as arguing that my "unlimited" data plan is now "limited"to 5GB per month and how that is somehow not a breach of contract, well I am going to have to disagree with you.
The speed at which I agreed to pay for i.e. 3G, is slowed to less than DSL when I reach the recently altered terms set by Tmo concerning usage in a billing cycle.
If they are going to throttle my usage, they can also deduct that lost speed from my monthly bill.
In a nutshell, I am no longer getting what I signed up for 7 months ago but per my contract I am still expected to pay the same amount.
Or fork over mad cheddar to bail from the contract...don't know about you but it was $lightly terrifying for me $igning onto a premium package and a $et up like this for 2 more years.
Business expense, but still My Wife would be peeved to know it cost me $300 to pay another $300 for the ETF.
Money isn't my bestest friend...but dangit, Transformers looked SO good!!
My guess is that Tmo failed to prepare their network properly to meet the needs of the Fvckton of new clients that will rush into the HD7, and this was a hail Mary move. The timing seems about right in line with the upcoming release of the latest wondertoy.
I mean heck, what can anyone do? Complain? Whoopee, plenty of other tmo/xda members will pipe up and put them in their place.
amirite?
EDIT: I have 0 movies/music on my phone, never have.

Do you use 5GB of data each month? How long does it take you to get there. I use my phone a ton and I'm not even kinda close.

All I do is use the internet a lot throughout the day looking at news and sports sites and my bill says I use 5GB a week. I don't download anything. Why buy a G2 if you just want to make phone calls?

I recieved a text 3 days ago.
I browse the net, and post regularly on quite a few forums. The only thing I can think of that kills it is downloading the themes etc. from forums directly to the phone.
I checked my account and it reads 0 due to that pesky unlimited data plan, and tmo has no way of compiling my total usage into a nice round #. All they see on their system is my entire usage broken down into individual "visits" to the network. Yeah, I almost insisted that she break out the calcuator and get to addin'!
Like I said, they seem a bit out of their element having just launched this new system.
Not one rep could offer anything more than an apology for not having more info when I went through my list of straight forward, and comprehensive inquiries.
What bothers me, among other things is the lack of transparency on their part in the form of the inability to answer simple questions. How can I be sure that they are capping at 5gb, or find out what speed have I been lowered to?
For all I know they are making up the rules as we're plowing down this dark gravel road to unknown parts.
A free speedtest could offer better data than the company I am paying good money to, and that is pretty jacked up.
To answer your question, I have no idea how I hit 5gb 1 week shy of my billing cycle ending.
And with no way to keep tabs, it looks like my Leo will be collecting a bit more dust in the future...I'd hate to blow the cap 2 weeks in.
Youtube vids now take 4 min. to load a 56 sec. clip.

i guarantee that the contract you signed in no way states what speed of service they will provide. that would be impossible to tmobile to hold upto, what about all the people paying the same price for their data service as you, but they are stuck in areas still only served by edge or god forbid gprs service?
Yes these service areas still exist, i personally experienced them on a road trip over the summer. 1 bar of gprs service in a cabin in north mississippi is real fun. i guess by your logic tmobile owes me a billing credit because i couldn't get 3g service while on the road for a week
i really cant fathom how you exceed 5g without downloading movies/music on your phone

If I left an area where service was solid, that would be one thing.
I am in K.C. where the service rivals Sprint's due to their "campus" being located here.
3 1/2 bars since day 1, another "issue" I have...
No movies (not til I pony up for coreplayer), and as far as music, the speaker sux bawls on the Leo and earbuds irritate me.
Just regular usage rivaling that of my average daily p.c. surfing was before I got my htc hd2 set up.

wow, thanks for posting.
"privates"?
being 11 years old is a confusing, and yet exciting time!
now run along the adults are talking.
Anyways, after that lasts dumb post. I agree with the others up top, with the data cap instated, you are still getting data, just at a slower rate. No where in your contract does it state that what speeds you will recieve using mobile data, only that your access to mobile data is unlimited.
well after only about 6 months i have had it with Sprint.
I live in Cedar Rapids, Ia and the service here is to the point of almost not even having data.
by that i mean i have been consistantly getting 50-100kbps. day or not.
occassionaly between 6am and 9am i can get 700-1100kbps but this is not a daily routine.
I have been speaking to and met with the Regional Sprint Manager who was a very nice, polite and well spoken woman to work with.
She, unfortunately for sprint, has let loose on some key things such as her getting calls from their business customers that the network is toast and data is gone. and that for years its been known that Sprint in Cedar Rapids has been horrible. although the latter comment was not a blatant statement but more under the table & nonchalant.
we swapped phones and nothing changed, as she admitted probably would happen.
but i am working with her to get out of my contract with no fee's because i am not, and never have gotten actual 3G service. I was blatantly mislead and lied to on several occassions about the service in CR and even told by a store employee "oh yeah, we are going to get 4G by christmas". when the fact of the matter is because of my contacts in the wireless world, Iowa isnt even on the roadmap for 4G in any of the future plans my contacts have seen although they admit it is no doubt coming.
but even if they say i have to pay the early term. fees i dont care i am done with sprint and i will pay my fees in my own due time.
funny thing is.... the minute you leave cedar rapids, ia and start travelling down the highway your data speeds go thru the friggin roof..... but.. i dont live out on the highway in the middle of nowhere, i live in town, where service is not even service.. its 1xRTT at BEST.
I have int he past even been going 75mph down the highway, been tethered to my EVO with my iPad, and been streaming Netflix to my ipad thru my EVO... but the minute you hit Cedar Rapids,,, the network is history. and has been like that for a long time, i doubt sprint will ever fix it, it will take alot... a l o t of T1's to fix their oversold network.
yesterday i went to US Cellular and got hooked up with a Samsung Mesmerize.
Its no EVO but its a nice phone none the less. but the service, even though maxes out at about 1200kbps, is lightyears better than Sprint Service ever will be.
i thought about getting the HTC Desire but its too small. i dont like small screens, but its a Sense phone and as such is a nice phone and has the email and browser i like.
The mesmerize is not, and uses the stock android browser and email which i friggin hate. but... it is what it is.....
good bye sprint, good bye evo.....
look for a couple of evo's in the for sale section of XDA
So, for the first 30 days where you had time to test out the service, were you never home to test out the service? That is why they give you thirty days. If I had crappy service for the first week, I would be at the Sprint store returning the phone.

oh believe me i would have but, i was assured repeatedly that this was not normal Sprint when i reported issues. it wasnt AS bad back in June/July even though it was still far far less than minimal 3G speeds. I was told repeatedly atleast twice a month that trouble tickets were made and the field guys were looking into the issues.
But, obviously they have done nothing, absolutely nothing because not only has it not been fixed it is now worse than it ever has been.
so 30 days what ever... when sprint tells customers its getting looked into and yet absolutely nothing happens, well, what do you expect.
i am going to get fed up and leave, but i wont leave and pay ANY fees, they lied to me to get me to sign up, they lied to me to stay, and i refuse to allow anyone or any company to do that to me.

yeah thirty days would of been more than enough time to figure this out, after that I would understand why Sprint wouldnt let you out of your ETF, especially after sticking through it for 6 months. And some reps arent really lying as much as speaking out of ignorance, 4g is being rolled out every month in different cities, but not on any schedule that I know of. But like you said it was always bad service by you so you didnt just wake up one day and your had nothing to work with. Sprint isnt much to blame for not covering the whole nation with service, all providers have bad spots, Im sorry that you live in one of Sprints. I hope you US Cellular works out better for you.
So I guess we shouldn't go with Sprint if we live in uninhabited backwaters then?
umm bye ?

Verizon have service there? Reason is if they do then you can just use roam control to stay on verizons towers in cedar rapids.

I would check VZ
I switched to Sprint from ATT (Iphone) and so far love it.
No dropped calls, better signal and more crisp voice.
Rooted EVO is as much fun as JB Iphone.
I have a 6 bedroom house and signal dies whenever I go inside very far. I use the Airave and I get full bars now everywhere in the house.
You should of just used a Verizon PRL, it would of probably increased your data speeds aslong as verizon had good coverage there. Worse case scenerio would of been Sprint canceling your contract without a ETF for excesive roaming...

RoamControl doesnt do anything for DATA roaming. You need to manually load a different PRL with ##775#
Just a recommendation, if your not getting good service I would talk to someone in retention. I did this due to my phone dropping calls constantly inside my house. Anyways when all was said and done, I got a FREE Airave plus service for the Airave for free they just wave it every month. Just something to consider trying before you pay that termination fee, companies are very unlikely to let you go free.

I've been disappointed with Sprint and my Evo many times for a variety of different reasons and I don't think I even told my wife--even after she stopped me from slamming my Blackberry 8330 up against the wall. Life's not perfect, that's what makes it cool--creating solutions. Good luck with other carriers.

Any idea how much roaming Sprint would consider, "excessive?" One of the phones on my account roams just about all of the time (He is stationed at an AFB in South Dakota, basically the middle of nowhere) and I'm curious if any one knows how much roaming would cause Sprint to end the contract...

YOU LIVE IN CEDAR RAPIDS!
In my area, Sprint's towers are messed up (for alot of ppl) and my wife and I are roaming. We both like tunein Radio and stream radio stations from out of state. I noticed that we are both using a considerable amount of roaming data. Will they terminate me or send me a letter to "knock it off" ?? If they'd fix their damn towers, I wouldn't be using roaming data LOL..
I know it's not necessarily Epic related, but I am using an Epic LOL
Not at all. Roaming is a free service with Sprint. In fact, if you are rooted I highly reccomend an app called Roam Control. It allows you to manually switch over to Verizon's towrs if you ever find yourself in an area with little to no coverage from Sprint. Its a great way to save battery to as your phone will not be trying so hrd to find the signal. I tend to only have one or two bars at my mom's house so I use Roam Control everytime I visit her which is almost everyday for long periods of time. The only disadvantage is that at this time you will not get 3g coverage though you will still be able to have EVDO coverage which is still fine for casual web browsing.

Not quite true - roaming is free up to 300mb of data; if you use a majority of your minutes while roaming or go significantly over 300mb, they have the right to strongly suggest you 'reevaluate your options'.
So... it's free, and there's no problem with using it, just don't go crazy. And if it's a problem with their towers (or, more likely, PRL) and it affects many people, they can't really say anything about it.

my wife's roaming data usage for last month was 3.2 Gigs, mine was 2.3gigs
I called and complained about texts showing not sent, then the recipient receiving them 3 times (sometimes days later).. very sporadic data.. their suggestion was to "reset" the lines on their end, then for my wife and I to power cycle our devices. Needless to say, this didn't help.
We're not the only ones complaining though.. Yesterday afternoon they called my wife for something (survey, customer service evaluation or something like that ??).. they asked if she used her phone primarily for personal and business etc.. she also complained to whomever called her and asked about the signal problem, they suggested the airave for $120 plus another $10/mo. She refused by telling them that we can't afford the $120 nor the add'l per month fee. "If we're already paying for service that we can't use, it's not fair to make us pay additional money to use your service". they said "we're going to note your account that you refused the airave".. bastards..
Anyhow.. I'm gonna call again and speak to someone because this is a bit ridiculous
/rant
(thanks WDM for the insight though.. it's appreciated)
If you read the thread on PRLs Sprint is having lots of roaming issues right now so I wouldn't worry about it until they straighten their crap out. 3G roaming will be removed from us commoners and replaced with 1xrtt service. Business customers will still have 3G roaming. 2 different prls are being released.
Do you BONSAI?
If your signal is bad, I remember reading some posts where people were able to get a free Airave. Might want to search the threads on info about that.

I just got off the phone w/ CS.. I was told that the outage is a pretty bad one and is expected to last until July !! pretty major outages/problems in pultiple counties is what I'm told.
The did offer a credit for our service for next month, then he transferred me to someone that has the ability to discount the airave...
I'm now getting a free airave and they're waiving the monthly fee for the airave as well AND no 2 yr contract on the Airave.. I can keep it, or send it back or whatever i wanna do w/ it.
They're not too shabby IMO

Yeah I got one but they have their problems too. Unless your internet is perfect you will get problems calling. To test your internet they sent me to voiptest.packet8.net. Biggest problem on Brighthouse is jitter and occasionally quality of service. But the Airwave costs like $1.50 a month in additional taxes, that's it. 3G is great on it.

As far as the airrave, its a ***** because it 1)uses your home internet, and 2) in my case, I have a 2 line fam plan and dont qualify for another phone, so no airrave, even though im in an admitted dead zone... so until sprint decides my credit is better, I have a 'credit' for an airrave and free service 'noted' on my account... dont pay for em!! Does anyone pay for em?? I read on here that they will give em up for free if you ask and are out of coverage at home, and yeah, he tried to get me to pay and I said I read it was free on some tech blog... he said 'let me see what I can do' put me on hold, got a coffee refill, and said yes, his mgr said it was ok... oh well... moving soon, im in a 5 sq mile dead zone... sux... hopefully I can use 4g where I move!

That's BS! I have a 2 line share and got an Airave as soon as I told them I had signal drop. They practically forced me to take it. Free, just the additional tax per month, no contract...just call for them to send a return postage ticket when I don't need it anymore. Yell at them about you paying for no service in your area, speak to supervisor's and managers. It is not a line that will have minutes on it so it shouldn't require credit approval.

my home internet has plenty of room for the traffic.
I'm in Northern Indiana (barely south east of lake Michigan)
They did tell me that it would show up as an extra line on our account. We are approved for a total of 5 and have 3 now (not including the Airave)
yep according to the phone rep I talked to the airrave counts as a device, I think he even said its assigned a phone number... its retarded, probly just for bookkeeping, but you would think they could have a workaround for situations like mine... I pay my bill... eventually Not a big deal, I tried to resolve the issue with their services, even willing to use my FIOS to supplement their network... but I solved the issue with Roam Control... I just need to make sure calls come in at night, etc... although with the ISI and mms issues, sprint better be making some serious infrastructure progress... I am about 3 miles from I-5, not in the sticks. The phone guy also said that you have to be above the base of the towers elevation to get reception, idunno if thats true.. but if it were it makes sense, im on an incline down to the water, probly at 300' elevation... I just cant wait till I move... in the Seattle area CDMA is the best... the others are crap... maybe a lil better the past couple years, but I cant stand static on a phone like im on a CB or something...
Hey guys,
This isn't a thread to give instructions on how to screw Sprint over, nor is it how to get out of yours. I'm just telling you that they let me out.
I cited the fact that my service is miserable, with really low speeds, along with the fact that their new agreement with Lightsquared means that my EVO will never be able to get their 4g service, which I was promised when I signed up. They agreed with my position, and said that if I returned my phones when I left, they would waive the ETF, which I think was very fair of them. Like I said, I wasn't out to screw them over or get over on them, which is why I'm returning the phones to them. They gave me a full month to find new service as well.
Just wanted to tell everyone this so that if you're having a similar situation with service and want to switch (and aren't greedy!!!), Sprint will work with you. That being said, I'll miss this forum when I switch, and all the great Devs. I'm switching back to Verizon, and getting myself the new HTC Rezound, which I hear is phenomenal, along with beautiful Verizon 4G!!!!
I got out of my ETF in June, citing the same reason, slow 3g speeds. I do not have to turn in my phones to sprint, that seems a little shady to me. YOU bought the phones, YOU own the phones. You should NOT have to give them back, you have no reason to, they are YOURS.
Good idea, I'm getting near that move myself. It is rather silly I own a 4G phone that has never and will never see the use of 4G, considering it was sold as such.
Wonder if I can use that to force an upgrade in January. Dropping Premium really sucks, because now I'm stuck with a phone that will never see 4G or be able to get LTE, probably, until Jan 2013.

I got out of my ETF in June, citing the same reason, slow 3g speeds. I do not have to turn in my phones to sprint, that seems a little shady to me. YOU bought the phones, YOU own the phones. You should NOT have to give them back, you have no reason to, they are YOURS.

Honestly, I would have liked to keep the phones and sell them, but I don't think it's unreasonable for them to ask for them back in exchange for waiving the fee. That's what the ETF is there to prevent. Otherwise, they would have given me a $500 phone for $99 bucks, and I could just cancel my service and sell it. I think it's a fair offer for letting me out of my contract after only 4 months, and that's why I took it. I was surprised they let me out at all.
Amazon Wireless has all phones for a penny today for new activations, so I grabbed two Rezounds for 2 cents, and activated my new Verizon account!!!!
Going to need a new handle.
I have my Evo and with an AOSP Rom, my 3G is pretty solid, and I am in Bethpage.
Where on LI are you that your 3G is slow?
I live in North Bellmore, and got no reception in my house until they sent me an Airave, and I go to SUNY Old Westbury, where there is literally no reception whatsoever. I have to force roam on Verizon's towers, and that only gives me 1x unless I do the PRL hack. I shouldn't have to pay Sprint to roam on Verizon's towers on 3g, when I can get a better phone, and get Verizon 4g for just a bit more.
Yeah, once you go north of the LIE or NSP, the service blows. I am shocked that the service is bad in NB. My father lives in Wantagh right off of Jerusalem and I still get solid speeds. Just as good as his Droid X2.
Good luck with the Rezound. It's a sweet phone and VZW service is great, just really expensive compared to Sprint. See if SUNY Students get some kinda discount from Big Red. More often than not, there is some sort of price break offered.
I had Verizon before I switched to Sprint in June...Their service is great. I get a 19% discount through my job, and they said they'll put that back on for me once I activate the phones. Nice to get $30 off a month, makes it a bit more reasonable, plus all of Nassau County is 4g enabled. Suffolk County is still only 3g though, which is a bit of a bummer, but w/e....I'm not there that much.
I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see if I can work something out with them. With full bars of 3G it takes, literally, 1.5-2m for my Facebook home page to load. It's beyond abysmal. Add to that the fact that 4G is listed on their map as everywhere in my town (and yet I've been able to get one bar of it one time anywhere around here) it is useless.
I have no problem handing my phone over, I just want out (especially since Rezounds are $.01 right now ). We'll see, I s'pose.

When i was talking to one of the business sales reps last year, he mentioned that LI east of Rte 110 should be LTE enabled by Q1 2012. Not sure how accurate that info is, but that would be great to have it so quickly.

I haven't had any problem either. I get a pretty fair discount so I can't complain.
Just got off the phone with a retention supervisor and they could not wave the ETF due to data speeds because there was not any guarantee of speed in the contract. I have 15 months left on my contract and I've been with them for 4 years. I am switching to Verizon because it is a lot better in my area. They did offer me a one-time $25 credit but i refused it out of principle. They should let people who want to leave go when they KNOW they cannot compete with verizon. Slowly Verizon will slow down from overuse and the system will balance. Contracts are evil /rant

Yes there is, the contract guarantees 3g speeds between 600kbps and 1300kbps when you are within sprint's coverage area. Call back and speak to another retentions rep, or email [email protected] with your situation, and you will get a callback from a rep from his office within 48 hours.

I too do not want to "rip-off" sprint but this applies to anywhere where the coverage map says I get coverage, correct?
Sprint just cancelled my services ETC free due to excessive roaming.....go figure.

Can you provide a source for this? I am getting 2-8 kilobytes per second where i live using sprint. I am already up to 66 gigabytes of roaming data this month (and 30 last month) so I'll probably get kicked soon anyway, but it'd be nice to get out faster. I've called them complaining and trying to get out etf free 3 times and I dont think one more call is going to help without the exact quote. Thanks a bunch.
