[Q] Update to 6.2.2? - Kindle Fire General

Ok first of all if you are a DEV and busy working away in the background THANK YOU!! I am waiting patiently for a day to day rom and am cheering you guys on in the background every day as you hash out the issues getting sound and video working. I will be donating cases of beer for your efforts!
I was able to root both of my KF's (6.2.1) and I am using droid wall to keep the OTA update out of my life for now.
The only question that is burning in my head is should I update to 6.2.2? The only real advantage I was able to read about was full screen browser and a couple of minor bug fixes. What are your thoughts on this latest update from Amazon? Should I update or continue to wait until we have a wonderful day to day version of ICS to flash?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

A better question is ... why are you holding off from updating to 6.2.2? You can gain root with BurritoRoot2 on 6.2.2.

or use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452082
and to prevent ota additionally:

I am not worried about loosing root by updating. As shown in other threads rooting was figured out quickly.
Thus my question...What are the benefits the upgrade? If the only benefit is full screen web browser and a couple of minor bug fixes I probably won't upgrade to 6.2.2.

there is'nt really much more - usb connection seems a bit faster if you plug in but that does'nt matter - it's not transfering faster ...

[Q] Why should i root my phone?

Hi, i have got my DHD phone for over a week now and im loing it. its such a good phone. its much better than the iphone. but i wold like to know if it is a good thing or a bad thing if i should root my phone. what are the pros and cons? i have notice aswell that my phone is starting to lag. i have the usb debbug on but is still lags. can someone help me if i should root my phone. thanks
Pro's
- Performance > Flash a new Kernel and overclock your DHD.
- Battery Life > Setting a much lower clock speed when your screen is off.
- New Features > Rooting your DHD allows you to flash custom ROM's.
- Ability to remove bloatware (Amazon MP3, etc...)
- Any more?
Con's
- OTA updates, I'm not sure but I think rooting your DHD will stop OTA updates from working. (Correct??)
- Any more?
Do you know if we are expecting a new update soon for the dhd. I want to know if I should wait before I root my phone. I don't know if its the best for my phone. Have you rooted your phone? How are u finding it?

There will be a 2.3 Android update in the coming weeks, however I'm not sure how long HTC will take to release this for the DHD.
I rooted my DHD to remove HTC Sense. I've flashed CM6.1.0-RC1 & Buzz OC/UV 1.51Ghz 1.0.7 and It's great.
I rarely call people anyway, send a few SMS's, surf the net for maybe an hour over WiFi or 3G/HSDPA and mostly listen to music using Winamp 2-3 hours a day I can get 2 days between charges.
I've overclocked to 1400mhz (performance) when the screen is on and underclocked to 300-400mhz (smartass) when the screen is off using SetCPU.
Obviously your use may vary.
I would not be to concerned with OTA updates....
I think that once new updates are available, you'll have them sooner via a custom ROM then you'll get them OTA

This. So long as you are happy with AOSP you will have your update well before htc update sense to 2.3.
Tbh I would still love this phone if I never got another update again. It's just wonderful. Sometimes it's best to remember the definition of an update - to fix old bugs and add new ones.
Sent from my Desire HD by magic.
so can i ask what is the best rom and settings i should use if i decide to root my phone. also are there roms with no issues on the phone like FC's? i have read about some roms audio dont work and GPS not linking and you tube not working too. Will i have to update my rom all the time. I had a g1 for 18 months and i had to change my rom all the time cause there were issues with it. sorry to sound dumb but it is such a nice phone but it does lag. i really didnt expect this as it has a fast processor.
I am using LeeDrOid atm and have 0 problems with it....

If you wait the exploit we are using to root the phone will in all probability be closed, so you may be unable to root your phone, if you permaroot with visionary you can always unroot in future if you wanted to and you needn't proceed any further so the risk to your phone is mininal from going ahead
I'm using CM6.1.0-RC1, with Buzz OC/UV 1.51Ghz 1.0.7 kernel.
No issues at all. Very quick, with great battery life.

New Release end of July

I've been in close contact via email with Acer and reporting all the problems and so on.
And now the latest email I got was saying they are not sure about the exact date of release but that it will definately be in the end of july. But they did not state what issues they would fix.
Just sharing some info.
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing.
the information my contact gave me was very blurry...
something about 3.2 and A100.
also about the Iconia Smart
Thanks to the Senior Members
Thanks to the senior members from a newbie for staying on top of 3.1 release of honeycomb for the A500. It's very fustrating not knowing when the release is coming out and not getting squat from Acer for information. I've only had my Iconia for 6 weeks and I'm holding out paying any money for Apps or rooting my tablet until the new version comes out but my patience is wearing out. Do you think that's the right strategy.
Why hold out on buying apps? Anything you buy now isn't going to suddenly stop working with 3.1...
Same goes for rooting, really. It's an easy process to undo, and 3.1 is already out and rooted, there's just an unconfirmed rumour that it has been temporarily withdrawn.
And besides that, even after a hard reset you can still download your previously bought apps without having to pay for them again. Google knows how to remember what you bought
And you need to root to create a system backup. My device for example updated to a "dud" - a firmware that was withdrawn and couldn't update further. Had to flash the right update.zip upgrade to be able to get 3.1.

I think it's the same case for me. I had a nandroid backup of my official firmware before going custom. Sad to say, it seems that the OTA update I had was a dud like yours. It updated to Acer_A500_1.126.03_COM_GEN1 and I was unable to get any updates.

Really.. uncomfirmed rumour that t has been temporarily withdrawn? Is that why I can no longer get it? I read your posts and so often they flame.. Just like the rumour of global warming right?

Huh? What the f--- are you talking about? I'm not flaming anyone, just telling the OP there's zero need to wait regarding buying apps from the market.
Get back under your bridge, troll.
Im thinking Acer is trying to conserve resources. Instead of working thruball the bugs are waiting for Google's release.then making there adjustments. And pushing big releases instead of a bunch of minor releases.and I think it might be best for everyone in the long run.less fragmentation with all the small updates
Again my openion only
So, basically, August.
I predict I'll get my update the 2nd week of - or later.
My Iconia updated without issue on the 9th. And aside from doing the double restet button to fix wifi, I've been enjoying all the new features and speed (the screen scrolling/swiping finally matches the rest and pricier other HC tablets).
As for the end of July date you posted, I think it might be HC 3.2 after reading this-

awesome.. I did not know that. Since we're on the subject of buying Apps I read on another post that some clown took apps and added some malware and a root kit to hack your system. I guess he got caught when someone noticed the new version wasn't being sold by the original developer or something like that. Anyway since I'm not that saavy yet is there a way to make sure I'm buying something that's clean.

Alrighty then... I guess I'll go back to the threads on rooting and give it a shot. Since I've got some droid heads here I can ask another dumb question. Once I root this puppy is there a way to get a terminal window to run some linux-like commands or am I out to lunch on that

Terminal emulator, I think that's it...In the market.
I've a question, do providers have to get extra bandwidth to push out updates, and could that be a factor why some of them might do it in batches so they don't have to pay up for extra bandwidth? Acer reps saying that the update may arrive in a week or two doesn't make sense when some have received their updates already even two successive builds in some cases :/

[Q] OTA pushed over my Deodexed GB?!

I've just got a notice of an ota for 4.5.602 even though I'm on the deodexed version, and have been for months. Anyone else getting this today? Is this normal?
It seems late in the update season to have this pushed to me. Are they tracking down the rooted ones now? Is big brother red finding us?! (O.K. that was a little dramatic.)

Same for me. Using the deodexed 496 and I got the upgrade notification today as well. My guess is that whether it's deodexed or not it doesn't matter. What matters is I'm not going to bother attempting it until I hear more information.

I feel the same way. I'm tempted to, but I'm afraid of losing my root abilities. (Mainly tethering.) Thanks for replying. I was beginning to feel targeted, haha.
Same here...
I gave it a whirl as I can always force my way back.
The update failed.
.602 is old news, been out for a week or so. Read the forums better. Also you will lose root and will have to sbf if you take it. There are other steps to get there so just read around

I know it's older. I was just surprised about the OTA notice. I actually let it try to install and nothing happened. It just said that it had failed to install. I stay caught up with things best I can. Thanks though.
This is massively annoying, I like my current version, stable and tether (.596), I keep getting the notice to upgrade, I've done it, it fails but it still keeps asking me if I want to update...aaaargh

I hear ya. I finally got fed up and updated to rooted .602. Everything seems to be the same. I know there are some fixes, but I didn't have any problems on .596. There's a 2 part update for .602 if you want to get rid of the notices. You have to sbf though. But hey, at this point, we're all pros at it. My phone feels like it has dissociative identity disorder it changes personalities so often!

Well until/if it gets hacked it's a permanent loss of root. So far nobody knows a way to gain root on a 6.2.1 KF...

It will probably come with 6.1 or 6.2. But as soon as you go online it will start updating itself. This is automatic, and so far no one has found a way to prevent it happening.
What you would need to do if you bought a new Kindle Fire is update it to a custom 6.2.1 ROM before you connect it to wifi. Then you would be good to go .. until the next update comes!
Or root it and swap to CM7..
I got my Kindle Fire, yesterday. Declined to join wifi network during initial setup. Followed threads to root, load TWRP, backup Amazon's rom, and load CM7. Loving it.
Not sure how long we got till stores start stocking Fires with 6.2.1 preloaded, so I wouldn't sit on the fence about it for too long.. When I got mine at Walmart, the sales clerk said I could return it during the next 15 days if I didn't like it. But I'm keeping it.. Good hardware at a reasonable price.

Believe it or not after reading/posting about this update issue I took my first 1 back to Wally and he gave me another. So its currently in the box and awaiting my next move. I did Root (Superuser but no R/W capabilities [obviously did something wrong] first root) the returned kindle but could not progress. So here I sit once again learning the Kurve of the Kindle. So right out the SuperSized box I shut off the Wiffy (Newegg Commercial) and took a look at the system version. It's 6.0_userxxxxxx. Reading up on the TWRP and searching for a MAC friendly rendition while @ work.

That pretty much explains why I don't watch Conan.
I have searched all over the place.
Could a better Navigated person direct me to place where installing TWRP on a KindleFire with a MAC is found. I have downloaded the twrp-blaze-2.0.0RC0.img and attempted to follow due processes, only to be found seeking re-routing directions.
Any and all welcomed, thank you, back @ work.

My Tab wouldn't take the update because it's Rooted. The Note 2 got an update pushed last week that the devs said to not accept since it contained a Bootloader. Hope this is not another attempt at locking the bootloader and root on the 7.7. I was able to freeze the app on my Note 2 to keep it from attempting to install again.
So what does this update do for me, really? Why do I care about how much power it consumes when its turned off ans charging? Does that mean shutdown & charging, or just screen-off & charging?

Interested in what this update is really doing as well
I saw the news reports that an OTA update was coming that would help to make the battery life better on my i815 but like others here, I've not noticed the battery life to be that bad to begin with.
I don't have a problem with the idea of updating, though just to get to ICS, well, I wound up using electron73's instructions here as it seemed my poor i815 was one of the ones that was just never going to properly update OTA from HC to ICS
Perhaps it is another attempt at sending out small update before the big update?
Rooting stock IMM76D.LP11
My newly purchased tab came with this update already installed (build number IMM76D.LP11) from Verizon. Power consumption seems good though I also use Deep Sleep Battery Saver. Having a hell of a time rooting this thing though. ExynosAbuse initially worked well but then inexplicably lost root just today which I discovered on using TitaniumBakup. Anyone aware of a rooting tool for this build?? I can't breathe without root!

The update will not affect your battery life, for better or worse. It simply reduces the amount of power draw while charging. This helps avoid a trickle charge that constantly uses power from your outlet while the device is on the charger and at 100% charge.
Maybe it has to do with the charger getting hot.
