I'm pretty upset that megaupload was shut down by the feds. I had a very important rom uploaded on there and now I can not access it. Rom devs if you have used this site to upload your rom(s) to, your pretty much screwed:

Yes this is total BS. It just proves that the powes that be aren't interested in following the same guidelines they set forth for others. This particular action isn't just an infringement of rights, it's a clear abuse of power. They have no interest in fair and just. This is a clear indicator that if we let them continue down this path, one day we shall all be asking for permission to use our once freedom of speech. They hide their attack of our rights by saying that certain individuals were pirating. But in reality it's the same as confiscating your home, and every house in your neighborhood. Because a person three blocks over might be stealing cable. In essence it is downright ludacris.

The FBI site didn't even go down, basically, they're not as amazing as they thought. In a way I want to see them prevail but it's inhumanly possible, I can only imagine that they'll eventually be found and arrested, sparking conversy and if anything that'll light the fire for the fight against these bills, and overall a new outlook on human rights.
Might prove me wrong though

They were shut down but they(the gov) got it up and running shortly after
Yup, the whole reason they attacked megaupload was because of all the sites like this one protesting against SOPA. Hello even google protested against it. It just goes to show how much of a bully our government can be when people speak their minds. It's like them saying "you don't have rights to free speech or to decide what we the fed government do" or "we make the laws not you the people".

Yup looks like even sites that are US based can/will get shut down by the US. Over the years i've come to hate us(america) and all the bull**** we "stand for" I see why everyone hates us and i'm really thinking about moving to Canada or some place else in the upcoming years
Sending an attack directly to fbi.gov is really dumb and childish. It's also a great way to get caught. I'm pretty sure they'll get traced back pretty quickly.

Yeah but the problem is most of them are located in other countries hiding behind proxies. And a lot of isp's don't want to co-operate, and tech they don't have to if they are in certain countries. That's why they call themselves anonymous because it's really hard to find them. Trust me they've gotten smarter since the last time people got arrested. I've done my research on it.

Seriously....its not hard. And no, trolls, I'm not whining because no one thanks my posts. Just look around at the ratio of downloads : thanks. You'll find simple .apk posts that have 110 views, but the post was only thanked 4 times. Please don't try to tell me that all 106 other people used the XDA app to download. I realize that you can only give 5 thanks a day, and the app has no button, but everyone here knows theres always been a serious lack of appreciation here in the Vibrant forum.
It's the easiest, most effortless way to show appreciation to someone, yet it seems at least half the forum can't take .28 seconds to hit the thanks button. Don't just download and run guys. Slam that button, and do it with a smile...cause you would expect the same.
Any time you download posted content, either via link, or via attachment...it is out of courtesy that you hit it every time....regardless of whether or not you liked the content. Also...dont just thank popular devs. Even if its someones first post, they still deserve recognition.

Nobody cared about getting thanks until the thanks button showed up. I don't care if someone wants to feel special because some stranger on the internet clicked a button. Now all anyone does is solicit thanks from some nerds they don't even know. Who gives a damn.

youre such a rebel badass....classic vibrant user
yah we wouldnt want you to strain your finger muscles or anything. And the reason the "Thanks" button showed up was because of popular demand. It is a widespread feature across internet forums. Some people actually enjoy giving thanks....even if it is through a virtual, meaningless button......its certainly better than your deplorable attitude.
"hey, we'll take all the free roms, kernels, themes, apps, mods, etc. that we can get!! just dont expect us to press a 'Thanks' button, because WE think its a cheesey concept."
you dont care if someone wants to feel special?? interesting, well id bet youd want that person to care if you downloaded something of theirs and there turned out to be something wrong with it, right? Youre the type of person that downloads something....doesnt say thanks or leave any positive feedback....but then once you find something wrong, something you dont like, or something you WANT, THEN you will make the effort to jump on the forum and say a thing or two.
The bottom line is it doesnt matter what the hell you think about the Thanks button. If someone is kind enough to provide you with something that improves your phone experience, and all they ask from you to do in return is to move your mouse a couple inches to click the Thanks button?????....then you hit the friggen Thanks button!...quid pro quo, clarice.....

No I don't contribute much, but I try to help when I can. What I don't do is start threads whining about people not using the thanks button. Maybe I just don't get what the obsession is about the thanks button. Is it a popularity contest, or is their an achievement that we can unlock like in XBL or PSN?

The reason they leave, mainly, is for site hits. But I also think it's because the moderating on xda is so inconsistent, and sometimes hypocritical.
By keeping their content in a forum that they control, they are likely to have cleaner, productive threads...because anyone that flames/hinders production will ACTUALLY get disciplined.
But yes, I do agree that blasting the forum on the way out is cowardly....but I'm not going to point fingers. Just keep in mind that I kind of see where they are coming from.....people can be very unappreciative, and will jump at any chance to get on each other's case (see members above)....it gets annoying after a while, and starting a controlled environment can really cut that type of **** down...as opposed to letting the critters roam free

I find this thread hysterical. My thoughts...
I LOVE when someone hits "thanks" - it is natural to feel good when someone appreciates you/your efforts.
I HATE when...
people whine about not getting thanks
or make posts about "click thanks" (defeats the f'ing point of the button / clutter)
and I hate when people make their signatures all about hitting their thanks button.
Both sides of the "argument" are right in this thread.
Put on your big boy britches and realize this is the Internet.

I guess xda is planning to officially go offline on purpose on JAN 18th to help petition against SOPA. The only way we can help get xda back online is by getting involved in the fight against SOPA by joining the petition process.
As far as I know this only applies to the U.S., so if you don't live in the U.S. you should have nothing to worry about.
More information about xda's goal here:

They plan on replying to you with a canned response.
Not sure if it has filtered down yet but any of us trying to get software hosted on Megaupload are out of luck us the US DOJ has shut it down :-(
Even more reason we dont want SOPA/PIPA, They could toast places like XDA for "hosting" or even linking to "pirated" stuff eg if a copy of swype ended up on here, or even WM or WP7 roms.

Just a quick question. So the Movie and Music industry is complaining about not hitting their 100 billion target for last year and now blaming it on the public. Funny how not 1 sent of that money goes to bettering any community but rather line the already filthy rich people with just more money.
Good Job America. You just showed us how greedy you really are. If you don't want people to pirate your stuff get better security or employ more competent people to make it unpiratable. Not my problem you make it so easy to copy your stuff. That's your own fault.
Sad to Learn about the news on MU.... ):
well, according to me,no one can stop piracy...Until and Unless The I.T. Law Introduce some new Technology to tackle this problem.
because even if MU is gone, there are 100s or 1000s of new sites that are based on "one click" hosting online service.
so it's impossible to stop Piracy. and what a foolish reason to accuse MegaUpload LOL...i guess Federal prosecutors need to get life...

The youknowwho everyone is referring to is you, just to let you know. I will not reply to you again and add you to ignore because I know who you are and don't want to trail any more threads off topic. I can tell that that post is intended to just cause more drama because you are desperate for attention. This post did not contribute to this thread at all (and neither did mine really, but I am replying to another post). If you actually posted something useful that pertains to the thread you are saying it in after searching the internet and getting a knowledge of the subject, I wouldn't rant. The only posts I have seen you post are insulting other users, such as "it is all of the old people" and "marcusant is insulting other users". If you are truly this hypocritical and are truly new even though you seem to reference to events that have happened long before you joined, I would be surprised. I will try to not reply and try to ignore any more posts by AdjectiveAnimal or any other troll that seems to use the exact same phrases. The reasons behind my insulting (it really wasnt insulting), was to show you what you are saying to other users in the forum. I am really confused as to why you would cause this much drama on a PPC development forum. I would be less mad if you actually contributed positively to the community. I hope that you read this post entirely. Please do not respond (I am talking to everybody) as it will bring this thread more off course. I see that you are already banned. I hope that if you do make a new alternate account that you actually attempt to contribute. I'm sorry for any thread jacking or additional drama. Have a nice day.
Now for a real reply. I find it odd that they are able to sue for data throttling that everyone has noticed and known about for a while. It still effects android phones and probably dumbphones with 3g. This is one reason I chose sprint. But I do bet that the throttled speeds are faster than Sprint's 3g on a good day.
I think he makes it fun and funny. I also find it entertaining that people are still replying. The gassyP account has been disabled since last nite.
