Is it to late to get the A500? - Acer Iconia A500

Ok, I got a transformer prime and it's nice but more than I really need and I'm a little disappointed with it as well. I wanted to have a USB port and expandable memory so I'm thinking of returning my transformer and getting the a500. I'm mainly gonna surf, watch movies and maybe tether to my skyrocket with slingbox. Of choose I'm gonna root and oc like my skyrocket but I wanted to see if people would still recommend it being it's not as new to the market.

Ebay and Craigslist

As mentioned, I'd hang onto it until the a700 comes out maybe, THEN eBay/Craigslist it and buy the a700

Wow what a price drop, if I had the choice now at this price I think I would have went for the xoom.

When I was looking at tabs I wanted the xoom the most, i came across an iconia at a good price and couldn't pass it up.
Since then the only thing I've wanted for the iconia is more development support.
After some tweaking it runs much better and looks better.

Try one of the custom Roms on and you will not be sorry about it.
I'm currently using FGuy's Falcon galaxy, and its awesome. It's based on Acer's stock rom with Galaxy Tab's UX interface. It's fun to have a Iconia with so much of indeginous developers on this and many other forums.

User opinions

How is the xoom treating you guys?
Ill b getting one buy this week.
Short reviews please?

I came from a SG2 and galaxy tab 7. I find the xoom awesome with some overclock it run better than my SG2. And for the price, it was the best choice, other tablet had the same spec but with 16go of HD instead of the 32 for the xoom.
Root it then switch to tiamat and you have a very nice tablet

While I love (love, love, love!) my Xoom and enjoy singing it's praises, there are already loads of threads (recent ones) like this. Just look in back pages of General and Q&A sections and you will find loads of opinions.
That said, you should definately get a Xoom, root it and flash a custom recovery and a rom and/or kernel in order to overclock and get some very sweet features. My Xoom goes everywhere with me and did I say I love it?

Sell HP touch pad, buy transformer?

Well, I'm sure I will get some pretty biased responses, but I am looking for a true android device, don't want to spend a ton, so I was thinking of selling my HP touchpad for a transformer!! What do you think? Thoughts? Really want to keep the cost in the 3-350 range...

i have a hp touchpad and also have a transformer. Since purchasing the transformer, i don't use the touchpad (with android) at all and actually gave it to my 5 year old. i have had a few lockups, but nothing too major and never while i'm using it. i'm sure it will get sorted out relatively soon. also i frequently see WTB ads on my local craigslist wanting 16gb touchpads for ~$200 and i also frequently see ads selling transformers with dock for $250-$350. So, if you sell your tp you should be able to get into a transformer for no more than $150 out of pocket if the market where you live is similar to mine.

Getting a xoom

I have a deal to buy a wifi only motorola xoom for 200 is that a good deal or should i go with something else

If you're not one to get in a fit over specs, and want a cheap 10" tablet, it's a decent deal. But if you don't mind the 7" feel, then get the Nexus 7 tablet. I'm waiting to see how Jelly Bean 4.1 feels on my Xoom and I might keep it myself. Are you planning to root the Xoom?

The Xoom is a great device if you can deal with the almost 2 yr old specs. I like to 10" Form Factor with the latest Google updates. They just keep dragging it along for the ride. You cant go wrong with either device.

Go look for the xoom universal root and guide. Did the trick for me, and only takes about 5 minutes.

For $200 it's not a bad deal if it comes with all the accessories.

If you plan on rooting and flashing a custom rom the xoom is a good choice over the nexus 7. Since it just came out and has limited space you would be hard pressed with what you could install on it. With the xoom you don't have to worry about it.
Also what size wifi are you getting?

Well I wouldn't say that, since I haveboth and there's basically the same options plus/minus for both. That said, the Xoomis a pleasure to flash on and we've got great options.

I prefer a larger screen size and would recommend the Xoom over all of the 7" tablets. I am partial to Amazon's access to content with the Kindle Fire, even the Nexus 7 can't really compare. When Amazon makes a 10" tablet, there might be an acceptable Android alternative to the Xoom. As it us all other choices are too locked down, flaky or both to be worth mentioning.
$200 is a great price for a wifi Xoom in perfect condition and some warranty left on it.

I tend to agree with the overall consesus. I use my Xoom mostly as video player, and for my needs, I require immediate access to several 10s of GB of videos. For that reason alone, the Xoom is still y favorite device. As far as the Specs go, I've had mine for a year, and have yet to have it start choking the way my one and half year old phone does.
I think it sounds like a great buy. Let us know what you decide!
A lot depends on what you want it for. I like the 10 inch form factor but I have big hands. I like the Xoom as it has two cameras. Important to me. It has an sdcard slot - also important. The Xoom is well supported by developers and Google up to an including jelly bean. However, the nexus 7 is a great deal for 200.00. So if you don't mind less options on it but faster processor and smaller form factor it would be a great choice. Oh, and less space even on board. But I use the Xoom a lot as a multimedia streamer to my television through HDMI out.

Selling Acer a500.. but for how much?

Im trying to sell my a500 which is rooted and is in great condition. I have a cover for it that has three different settings for standing it up which also covers the screen. There is nothing wrong with the tablet and im not trying to sell it here unless i actually found a buyer but i was wondering what do you guys think would be a good price? Ive had it since january 2012 and its running 4.03. The only reason im selling it is i want to get the asus transformer tf300
Sent from my Iconia A500 using Tapatalk 2
Oddly enough, I was looking to do the same and get the Nexus 7 tab. Just doing a Google shop search on the a500, I see refurbished ones starting at $250. I was thinking of selling mine, just like yours (perfect shape etc), to friends for ~$250.
That sounds pretty reasonable.. thanks

IMHO, getting another Android tablet same size with different brand, I don't see any benefit to it. Have you gone to the store and try the Asus TF300? I went to Bestbuy (store in USA) and tried it out but didn't notice any much different.
I just want to sell it while it still has its value and thats actually a good idea to go to best buy.. did you see any that you liked better than the a500?
