Turn off BLN - Vibrant General

So, like many other folks here, I'm also trying to find ways to improve my battery life. Overnight, even if phone is fully charged, with 0 usage, the battery drains rapidly, to 20% by early morning. Android System seems to be the one using the most battery (51%). CPU Spy shows only 15% Deep Sleep time. Since I get emails at night, the softkey lights stay lit all night. I'm thinking that's what keeps the phone from going into deep sleep.
Question is - how do I turn off BLN? I understand many people here love the nitification lights, but I honestly don't care much for this feature.
Here's my setup:
Android Version: ICS Passion 10.6
Baseband: T959UVKB5
Kernel: 3.0.15-ICUP ICS-Streamline #1
Build #IML74K
Juice Defender Ultimate
Wifi connectivity at home and work.

settings-display- uncheck pulse notification light...and yes this will prevent your phone from going into deep sleep!

Perfect
Thank you!!!

It uses power, and when the phone goes into deep sleep the pulse uses enough energy to wake the CPU doesn't it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Bet it is the email that is preventing the deep sleep and the BLN is a cursory problem bc of that.

now could i do that with my setup? talon kernel on honeycream jw1 2.3.6. i hate the backlight and with it off i could probably get around 3-4 more hours of battery life

Pretty sure backlighting isn't the culprit since it is probably to lightest battery drainer there is. It is what I'd causing the BLN to light up that is draining the battery.

well yes but no. For example psx4droid. If you press on the screen the soft keys light up for no reason and stay lit which uses more battery... that's the only reason I want them disabled, that and I don't need to know when I get texts as I check at least every 20 minutes and each texts means a pulse.... not good.

BLN I don't think has ever had problems with not deep sleeping. I remember Eugene tested his kernel with and without BLN because he wanted to test battery life, hardly any change was noticeable. It's most likely an app that isn't letting the phone sleep.

Even the original creator of BLN has tested the code, and AT MOST it uses a total of 2% of your total battery with the lights on constantly. These are very low energy leds we're talking about here that use a minuscule amount of energy, not 4 hours worth of battery.
It's an app that keeps your phone from deep idle, not the bln.
If you realty want to test, set your phone on airplane mode over night and heck your deep sleep times, and even try it with bln on and then check in the btery to se if your phone reports sleeping (only in gb and above).

Alright thanks buddy I checked today at school and battery life is only affected by a small ammount when leds are on all day

I upgraded the battery to the Galaxy S2 version of 1850mah. I get around 75% after a night's sleep.

Battery life.

I havehorrible batter life and it takes forever for this phone to charge and it overheats. I'm using the andromeda kernal and OC widget. Can someone tell me some settings I should use? Or tweaks or whatever? I'm talking non-commonsense stuff (not stuff like "turn 4g off")

Turn on Airplane mode and leave it on. Tell people to call you on the house phone. Your battery life will improve dramatically.
The radio really sucks up tht much power, huh? :/ I wish sprint used simcards so I can have a reason to lug around my hero for when I'm out for more than 3 hours

Wow, 3 hours huh? I'm at least getting 8. I was getting 15 or 20 hours, but then started putting lots of widgets on my screens and that really killlllllllllled it
I usemy phone a lot. I was spoiled by my hero. I was getting days on a single charge with the same usage, if not, more. I wish I knew what's killing it so fast :/ spare prts says the screen is a majority of power consumption, but I usually have brightness on 0 (its plenty bright enough. It seems brighter than my hero at 50% ).

This is a first

This is the ffirst time I have itterally gone a whole day on one charge; got up and switched to the N1 at 910 and at around....830 I put it back on the charger at around 15 percent.
I checked email, surges the web and texted throughout the day; I could maybe go half a day on my Captivate.
I seriously thought aabout ordering some spare batteries off of eBay but I'm really rethinking that now.

My setup is the rooted, deoxed version of stock 2.3.3. Amazingly fast (just as fast and smoother than the Atrix) and obviously has great battery life.
I'm using Zeam launcher with a few Widgets, light flow and my led light (top of phone) stays lit all if the time.
Checking the stats, I used 83 megs of data that came from web browsing, twitter, downloading applications, and email and stuff.

I don't have much problem with battery life, if I am at the place with good signal receptions.
Here is my, Battery use graph, which is built into the Gingerbread.
BTW, I did re-charging during the duration.
Settings -> About Phone -> Battery use -> Tap the title bar.

Based on my battery stats, I have an estimated battery life of nearly 48 hours if I leavr the phone alone.
With CM7 RC2 and wifi sleep policy set to never.

set wifi sleep to never increases your battery life dramatically. if you let wifi sleep, then it switches back to 3g which destroys battery much faster than wifi. so leave wifi sleep on NEVER.

Battery Drains QUICKLY!

I got school at around 6 am. By the time I eat lunch it's already at 57%. By the time I get home around 5 and it's already at 17%.
All I do is listen to music (doubletwist/playerpro) and play Cut the Rope, WTF!?
Cell standy by is 46% in batter usage followed by wifi with 11%
any help guys?
What I tend to do is have brightness down to about half. Have you also tried fully charging the phone, taking the battery out and charging back to full? I sometimes find it drops down but regenerates itself.

Brightness is below half,I never go over. WiFi is on but not all the time.
Stock rom 2.3.4 rooted
Do you have data off?
How's your phone signal most of the time? It has been proven that low/bad signal drains battery quicker than good signal.
Sometimes certain buildings/rooms have pretty bad reception making it a huge drain for your phone.

This is a useful piece of information, however is not really practical. Ideally we don't want to be turning off our phones on every charge :/
I myself own 3 batteries, and alternate them (I have a wall charger for the batteries)
what ver are you using if 2.3.4 the battery issue is fix.
I get 3 /4 bars, at school right new and yea some times I get nothing, especial ly during the subway ruse which is an hour
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Once I updated my phone to 2.3.3 I noticed that the battery life was sub-par, only lasting 3/5s of the day on a full charge.
I proceeded to root my phone (as I don't have the money to unlock my Big Red Bootloader); after installing SetCPU I took down the clocking meter 1 notch (768MHz) and the phone is stable with not difference in performance (so far). Doing this and removing some unneeded bloatware has increased my battery life 2.5x and I can go almost 3 days on a single charge.

Someone help me! (BatLife woes)

Alright I wasn't going to make a thread on this because this topic is already discussed elsewhere naturally but I feel my situation is different. All over the place I see people reporting great battery life with ICS.. well mine is HORRIBLE. I just flashed the latest nightly for Pete's bugless. I didn't change the kernel. Everything is stock. Only a few apps installed. Noop for scheduler and ondemand for governer.
The phones been off the charger for 55 minutes and I'm sitting at 76%. Idk what's going on. I've tried so many rom/kernel combos and I seem to get the same exact battery life no matter what. Around 6-9 hours with less than 1 hour of screen on time.
Things I've tried to combat this:
Undervolting
Freezing apps
Restricting background data
Underclocking
Brightness set to auto
And I'm sure a few other things I'm forgetting about. I've done all this and still get ****ty battery life. I've flashed the new radio hoping that it would solve my issues but no dice. My signal strength reports at -67 dbm yet the bars never go over 2. 3g or 4g. Even after updating plr.
On gingerbread cm7 I ran brightness at 70%, ocd to 1.4ghz and always got 15+ hours.
For the love of god someone help me. Cuz I think my phone hates the cream sammiches.

try this kernel, trinity teuv underclocked/undervolted kernel, oc'd gpu http://goo.gl/rY6ga
and do not set brightness to auto, its a battery killer. i keep my brightness at about 20-25%.
also, be sure to fully discharge your battery then charge it completely, after 2 or 3 cycles you should be good.

I do this every day lol I let the battery drain to around 15-30% before I plug it back in.

i was having horrible battery drain after flashing a new rom & kernel - i finally figured it out that my APN settings were messed up and I re-entered them according to the correct carrier settings.
i don't know if that will apply to you since it looks like your 4G data is working properly, but since I was on wifi 99% of the time, as soon as I went off, my data didn't work. but it's something to look at.
4 hours later I'm down to 4% from a full charge.

Have you thought of trying a new batt? Just got an OEM Samsung for 5 bucks on eBay. Worth a shot.
Oh remove fb app it blows...install friend caster way better less batt make sure you change the sync interval.
You could also try green power from the market to manage your data use while screen is off.

Ok here's how my battery performs back in cm7 nightly 174 gingerbread. Almost 4 hours and only 25% chipped away. If you look above you'll notice I lost more than 40% in the same time with ics. And I'm doing nothing different. I'm even overclocked to 1.3ghz ondemand with noop for a scheduler.
I think I'm sticking to gbread until official source is out. Maybe then ill get the same battery life.

That is really weird, if you have time try Milestone 3 and SG's latest kernel and just leave the settings stock . I get wonderful battery life with it hopefully you do to
Oh and are there any apps you are using on ICS that you aren't on CM7?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
Nope. Lately its only been a handful. I actually have more apps installed on gbread to achieve some of the features that are baked into ics. I just don't get it. Ics hates my phone. I even used the GPS today. So weird.

This. If you are installing the same ol battery-draining POS app then you are not going to fix it with any rom or kernel.
So you guys think my batter watcher widget is preventing my phone from sleeping properly? Ok.. I'm on cm7 right now. Battery is def back to normal. And this is with bacround data on. Ill delete bw and get better battery stats.

Battery Draining While Phone is Off

Last night I charged the phone completely, disconnected if from charger and turned the phone off.
This morning when I turned it on the battery was drained 15% down to 75%
Does anyone else have this problem?

You have to let the battery settle and let the battery stats calibrate. The % that you had after rebooting is what you really have. The first time it wadjt showing the right amount.

You might have some apps running in the background that is preventing your device from going to deep sleep to conserve power. Check what's running in the background when your phone is off. You can use better battery stats app to check what's consuming your battery level.
Are your running a custom kernel? I've heard of a few cases with kernels where even though the phone is sleep and screen off just touching the screen will cause battery drain.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'm guessing you either meant it was at 85% or drained 25% down to 75
Either way this is common on a lot of phones now due to the way the battery gauge works. When you turn your phone off then on it doesn't always remember where it was so gives a value and then if it's under where it should be it soon recalculates and can either starts going up or stays on the same value for a long time. This has happened on both my old SGS2 and also my N4 for example this morning while my phone was being drained by the FB app keeping GPS on, I turned off location access and then restarted my phone which dropped a few extra % and then sat for a good few hours at that % even though I used my phone.
Moral to the story is don't always take what you see as true, give it time to settle and see how it goes over a few charging cycles.
