which browser?
have you tried it on wifi ?
APN?
Yes, try it on WiFi first to remove the browser from the suspects.
Which APN are you using, "three.co.uk" or "3internet"?
I am on 3 uk and I can access it on the note with the stock browser no problem.
I use the 3internet APN as it isn't restricted whereas the three.co.uk one is.

Can you detail the differences between restrictions on the two APNs?

I believe three.co.uk is meant for phones and 3internet for dongles so access to more websites is allowed. I am on PAYG, so it doesn't matter but check you wont be charged per MB if you are on contract by using this APN.
I'm on three UK with an unlimited data service ,,
TV Catchup runs with no restrictions ..

I had the same problem and I solved it by removing the proxy adress and port from the APN configuration
Thanks
Posting 5 years after the prior post . . . just to say thank you.
I was having the same problem on my INew V8 Plus running Jellybean. Couldn't access any https sites over AirVoice. Tried everything, looked all over for an answer. AirVoice was no help at all. And then I stumbled upon Talel's advice: delete proxy and port from the APN. Bingo! I feel like just got a brand-new phone.

Edit: Android Version Added
Edit2: Android Version Opera Mini 6 Added
Call me stupid if you want but but but... you're still required to have T-Mobile service to use this (meaning the 3G connection, not Wi-Fi) so, it's very far from "free" even if it could be a workaround for a data plan which I'm guessing is the whole idea.
Somewhere down the line T-Mobile is going to track pretty much everything... could get slammed with a big bill after the fact even in spite of such claims of it being "free" I suppose. Worth the risk? Hardly.

Dude !! first of all when you put in the APN Settings !! see the small "E" near the signal strength....which means you are already on their EDGE Network !!
As far as tracking is concerned !! I have been using this since past 6-8 months and no one has a clue and they never will !! You know why ?? (Cos a Tmobile representative told me this that too being my friend since the APN is of the old Tzones plan which is no longer in the market but strangely the APN still works)
choice is yours for the so called "RISK" !!!
ughhhhhhhhhh....annoying dream

i definitely agree. when the packet data icon is "X" it means that the gprs connection is not available in your area or your simcard connection is disabled by your network provider. however if you can see "G"/"E"/"3G"/"H". the connection is available. but if your on prepaid, some carriers wont allow you to connect on the accespoint of the network. they required a min amount of load/credits to use the apn. while some just like here in our country allows you to connect to the accesspoint but pages that you may access is only limited to the network's wappage/homepage. many network have glitches. bugs like you can access sites thats out of the carrier's wappage/homepage just by inserting characters @ the end of the url. for some reasons it confuses the network and allows packet data in even without load. were using this trick for a very long time on java versions my only problem is editing the server of the native opera mini for winmo.

I really don't think you can get free. Tmobile would detect you using data and probably charge you for using it as on the go. Tell me if i am wrong. All my data usage are viewable online.

Is this only for Windows phone? No Android version?
Hi,
I've had my Desire HD for quite some time and I havent had any problems with it so far. About 2 days ago, I noticed that no webpages would load when I was on the Mobile network.
Everything works on WiFi.
When using 3G i can only check my Email and play some online games.
Web browsing doesnt work in either the stock browser or Dolphin HD.
I cant access the Android market or use the Playstation application.
Update: Facebook app and Gtalk work as well.
Does anyone know what the problem may be? A hard reset doesnt help!
Hello,
Same problem here, also with HTC Desire HD. Not sure when it began, but it is possible it happend about at the same time as you. I cannot send mms eather, but mail, market, exchange... work fine on 3G. I just cannot surf. Just wondering : I use Mobistar with a professionnal contract, is it also your case? I am about sure the problem is there.
Regards.

Check your APN settings
Hello,
Thanks for your answer. On my side, I do not think the problem is in my APN settings. Because:
-it used to work until a couple of weeks ago
-I called my provider to check my settings
-I erased several times my settings to recreate them (either using the default settings of the mobile or the information on the web site of my provider)
-my 3g connection works for everything (mail, exchange sync, different apps) except for surfing (I tried 4 browsers)
Thanks
Did u accidentally change ur phone user agent by any chance? I found that when i used my phone as desire hd,i will connect to another 'channel' though the same apn. Atleast this is my case with my provider.
Sent from my 001HT using XDA Premium App
Hello,
Thanks for your answer. I am not sure of which user-agent you speak. In Dolphin browser, the user agent is set on "Android (default)". I tried with "Iphone" (an other choice in the combo), but it did not help.
Regards.
The one that i was talking about is in build.prop
U ought to have root for that. Change the ro.model (?) From desire hd to ur brand.
Sorry forget the detail. Will post later from computer
Once ur done, as u can see here in my post, my htc dhd is recognized as 001ht, branded as in my carrier locked version rom. Though i am using custom rom
Edit: m not sure weather u have trouble with web browsing, or mms. For mms, to change UA u need a custom mms apk.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I found the solution.
In fact, the APN was not correctly set (despite the settings I used are the one you find on the Mobistar website, the one I was given by the phone support, the one stored on the sim card...).
So, if it can help anybody, for a Mobistar professional 3G subscription, here is the APN which works for me (web, mail, activesync...):
APN:internet.be
User : mobistar
pwd: mobistar
MCC:206
MNC:10
APN type : default
Authentication Type : PAP
Everything else (port, proxy, server...) have to be left empty.
Hope it helps someone else.
PS: in Belgium, until now, we have no phone which are stuck to one provider (in brief, it is forbidden by the law). So, I guessed the "agent" parameter was no use for me.
hi, i have the desire HD running smartdroid my network is 3 (UK).
when i use the internet on my phone every so often i receive n error message from 3 stating they've blocked the internet on the basis i am using it as a wireless hotspot or modem. now as i mentioned i am not doing either of these as i am using the browser on my phone not on any other device.
i have contacted 3 already on a fair few occasions and they have advised there's no problem with the network so it is to do with my device. they explained that the data packages they receive from my device are not valid with their servers therefore it presumes I'm tethering.
what could be wrong with my phone for 3 to stop my internet?
thanks
I've looked around and can't find any posts like this one so i do apologise if there is.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD with Beats Audio using XDA App
i'm also on 3 network, but have no trouble.....tried using a different browser?
A lot of sites 3 will block using the standard android browser, but simply use another browser and browse what u like. Might just solve your particular issue too.
Have you double checked to make sure tetherring is off?
APN Settins ok?
They should be:
Name = 3
APN = three.co.uk
MMSC = mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc
MMS port = 8799
MMS protocol = WAP 2.0
MCC = 234
MNC = 20
APN type = *
Everything else leave alone.
Try that.
Matt
And when it's working, install Barnacle WiFi tether from market, change the user agent in IE development to your mobile browser's, use chrome for normal internet, and start tethering away using IE!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Cheers for the replies. Tether is definatly off. And I'm using dolphin browser. And all my apn settings are correct. I've phoned three and they say its to do with phone. Is it because i have a custom from so the three servers don't recognise the data packages. Maybe not i don't know just a suggestion
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
One quick thought I'be just had. I'm using a sensation XL based rom for my desire hd would the three servers pick up that its a sensation XL so therefore having my phone down as a desire hd it thinks I'm tethering to a sensation xl

Hello comminity
I have a N4 using Carbon Rom and with 4G LTE active and running. Today I ran into an issue where my tethering is routing my laptop to a tmobile landing page asking me to change my plan. Anyway around this?
Interesting. I wonder how they're detecting non-mobile access.
You might try User Agent Switcher with Firefox or Chrome and then set it to a mobile user agent string. Sorry, I'd post links, but the dumb-ass forum won't let me.
The carrier is detecting that you are tethering and want you to buy the tethering plan...I would stop because they will tack that extra money for the tethering onto your bill if you don't buy the plan. I am unaware of a way around it
Write a new APN . which will eliminate the hidden settings in the stock APN. Look in the gs3 forum for ways around teather detection. Then apply it to your nexus. IT WORKS. I just LTE tethered a lot last 2 days while out of town. Convert this app 2 a system app and write new apn with it.

Do you mean just copy the existing APN info into a new listing, or create one with different settings? If the latter, which should I use?
