I can't access secure sites, https, from within the Android browser.
What version of android are you using? Who is your network provider?

I had the same problem and I solved it by removing the proxy adress and port from the APN configuration
Thanks
Posting 5 years after the prior post . . . just to say thank you.
I was having the same problem on my INew V8 Plus running Jellybean. Couldn't access any https sites over AirVoice. Tried everything, looked all over for an answer. AirVoice was no help at all. And then I stumbled upon Talel's advice: delete proxy and port from the APN. Bingo! I feel like just got a brand-new phone.

Guys, I'm very new to android since I got legend yesterday and I couldn't find a way to modify dns settings. Since, with shame, in my country, some websites are restricted due to taxing problems, (etc, youtube ) and I should modify my dns settings. I couldn't find and I'm slightly losing my temper...
There're some solutions on net but i really couldn't understand what they are talking about. I need an explaination as "android for dummies". Any help appreciated.
settings>setup>wireless&network>wifi-settings
push the bottom "menu" and choice "advanced"
here you can setup ip and dns

Thank you rcravero but this only solves my problem when usin wlan connection. I want to change dns settings for my 3g connections. I have a good data plan and i want to use it. Thank u anyway...
Recently we flashed both of our HD2's to Android 2.2, this includes the update that fixed the wireless mac address issue (TY very much for that btw). The new issue I encountered was that on 3G I was unable to establish a link to sites/apps that used HTTPS whereas HTTP sites/apps worked fine. We followed the posts in regards to entering the T-Mobile APN settings, but what I discovered is that entering the proxy settings prevented the HTTPS from working. Removing the proxy info for Proxy and MMS Proxy resolved my issue. I have compared my settings to a friends on his T-Mobile Samsung running stock Android (both of his were set to <Not set>).
Feel free to move this post if I put it in the wrong section. Just want to help remove some frustration to those who might have the same issue.
I just got my Dell streak (still rogers stock) and am trying to connect to my work's wireless network.
My first problem was our work wireless network is using LEAP authentication - I found a MarketApp that allowed me to put in my leap credentials so I'm now able to connect.
Now, to gain internet access, our wireless network has 2 options.
1) enter a proxy address - no credential required.
- I have yet to find a way to enter a proxy address using the stock browser
- I've read that there's no browser (even dolphin, opera mini) that has any setting for proxy.
Does anyone know if there's any new information with regards to proxy support for stock or any other browser out there for dell streak?
2) no proxy but upon trying to connect to the internet, the browser is suppose to ask for credential. This access works using regular laptop but not on my dell streak.
- I tried access the internet this way but when I launch the stock browser, the URL gets redirected to the login page but the browser just says WEB PAGE NOT AVAILABLE..
- I tried with Opera Mini as well but that doesn't even try to redirect to the login page. I tried to manually enter the redirect URL but it doesn't go anywhere - just gives me CONNECTION FAILED.
Does anyone know how I can fix this??
THANKS IN ADVANCE
Can someone help me move this to the Q&A section? Hpping I can get some response there..
Thanks
hi,
i'm facing the same proxy problem at my uni. I have heard and downloaded a program called " Transparent Proxy". I have not tried it yet because I'm not back at uni yet (still on holiday until end of Feb). Maybe you can give it a go and let us know
Off the top of my head, you can't get there from here.
You said you got the stock firmware at rogers that means 1.6 and i can confirmed as of 2.1 you couldn't do it trough android itelf. duno about froyo 2.2's.
however if you can run fennac ( a port of a mobile mozila firefox ), you'll be able to proxy like a mad man.
gszyszka.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-browse-internet-from-behind.html
iirc i can't post a proper link until i've got so many post (copy n paste it to get there)
I stumbled through transparent proxy after doing 1 click root of my streak - so far I'm getting no iptable binary error message.. I'll try to dig to see how I can resolve this..
I will keep you guys posted..
Thanks all for your replies..
Back to uni for two days now and been using internet with transparent proxy. So I can confirm that it works. So glad that proxy problem is finally solved
solved my proxy issues
SOLVED the proxy authentication problem
You need to install Firefox on the device, if you haven't got a sim with a data package then you will have to do this manually.I have only done this with my sim installed.
Once this is installed you need to go to the Firefox menu and search addons for "proxy mobile" once this is installed it gives you options to add http, socks and ssl proxy details that your tech team will know. Once this is installed when you go on the internet and you are connected to your wireless you will be shown the usual login box it asks to remember the password I would do this. internet works and all apps are working. Why they haven't written this into the settings of this dell machine or others I have no idea. #Majorfail and #happychap
Hi,
I've had my Desire HD for quite some time and I havent had any problems with it so far. About 2 days ago, I noticed that no webpages would load when I was on the Mobile network.
Everything works on WiFi.
When using 3G i can only check my Email and play some online games.
Web browsing doesnt work in either the stock browser or Dolphin HD.
I cant access the Android market or use the Playstation application.
Update: Facebook app and Gtalk work as well.
Does anyone know what the problem may be? A hard reset doesnt help!
Hello,
Same problem here, also with HTC Desire HD. Not sure when it began, but it is possible it happend about at the same time as you. I cannot send mms eather, but mail, market, exchange... work fine on 3G. I just cannot surf. Just wondering : I use Mobistar with a professionnal contract, is it also your case? I am about sure the problem is there.
Regards.

Check your APN settings
Hello,
Thanks for your answer. On my side, I do not think the problem is in my APN settings. Because:
-it used to work until a couple of weeks ago
-I called my provider to check my settings
-I erased several times my settings to recreate them (either using the default settings of the mobile or the information on the web site of my provider)
-my 3g connection works for everything (mail, exchange sync, different apps) except for surfing (I tried 4 browsers)
Thanks
Did u accidentally change ur phone user agent by any chance? I found that when i used my phone as desire hd,i will connect to another 'channel' though the same apn. Atleast this is my case with my provider.

Hello,
Thanks for your answer. I am not sure of which user-agent you speak. In Dolphin browser, the user agent is set on "Android (default)". I tried with "Iphone" (an other choice in the combo), but it did not help.
Regards.
The one that i was talking about is in build.prop
U ought to have root for that. Change the ro.model (?) From desire hd to ur brand.
Sorry forget the detail. Will post later from computer
Once ur done, as u can see here in my post, my htc dhd is recognized as 001ht, branded as in my carrier locked version rom. Though i am using custom rom
Edit: m not sure weather u have trouble with web browsing, or mms. For mms, to change UA u need a custom mms apk.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I found the solution.
In fact, the APN was not correctly set (despite the settings I used are the one you find on the Mobistar website, the one I was given by the phone support, the one stored on the sim card...).
So, if it can help anybody, for a Mobistar professional 3G subscription, here is the APN which works for me (web, mail, activesync...):
APN:internet.be
User : mobistar
pwd: mobistar
MCC:206
MNC:10
APN type : default
Authentication Type : PAP
Everything else (port, proxy, server...) have to be left empty.
Hope it helps someone else.
PS: in Belgium, until now, we have no phone which are stuck to one provider (in brief, it is forbidden by the law). So, I guessed the "agent" parameter was no use for me.
I don't know how many users here are on t-mobile with the Z1s and using the VPNs from your phone, but this is a necessity for me. After finally getting around to it I found out real quick that it didn't work, and recently found a post on their support forum confirming this as well as a workaround for it.
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/60804
The above is specific to T-Mobile, but not to the Z1s, so I wanted to go ahead and add my experience, which is specific to the Z1s:
For some reason I was unable to edit the APN settings. I called T-Mobile support and they told me they can't help with VPN issues because it is the IT department of my companies problem (that would be me... and yes i know the vpn works). They told me if i wanted to access the APN settings i needed to unlock the phone? But I'm impatient so here is what I did for the Z1s specifically I just created a new APN with the same settings, and basically all you need to do is chang the protocol from IPv6 only to IPv4/IPv6 :good:
And now VPN works!
P.S. If this should be in a more general sub-forum please let me know/feel free to move it. :good:
I use private internet access VPN and their apps works fine for me. Did not need to modify anything. Just entered username/pw and connect. Have not tried the phone using a corporate work VPN though.

The problem seems to be if your endpoint is using IPv4, since the TMO network seems to be on IPv6 (though it may depend on the area). Also, this is using IKEv1 IPSEC VPNs through built-in android VPN settings. I also tried NCP's VPN client (3rd party app).
I think tmo should set their default profile to IPv4/IPv6.
I noticed sometimes I don't have data connection even though at full bars.
After I create a new profile with IPv4/IPv6, I don't have this problem any more.
