hi fellow i9000 users. I was comparing the specs 1 to 1 with our i9000 and nexus s on GSM Arena. Noticed that nothings been changed Hardware view but the entire software has been changed. Samsung left download mode for nexus s so they can also revert to stock whilst google also provides them fastboot etc.
Now if your ready to take a risk and/or have 2 galaxys etc. read on.
What if, samsung gave google the galaxy s reshaped with a contour display? Everythings the same except a dedicated search button whilst we have to hold the menu button. This might sound stupid. U can laugh troll etc. but can someone try risking there galaxy s and flash the nexus s odin package onto there galaxy? What if it works . Let me know what you guys think.
Wouldn't the drivers be different?

This is silly. The phones are similar, but not the same. Nexus s on sgs project from supercurio already attempted this.

so it worked? I might as well flash as well . That could of been our gateway to fastboot, AOSP Ginger and future updates by google themselves. Codework should have focused on this more. So Can i flash? IS it safe? Is the phone still recognised by the computer? Download mode still works after?
they're far from being identical, in fact most of the hardware is different, just similar specs

Try it and find out. Just make sure you have a USB JIG incase the download mode doesn't work.
there are many ports out there semi-working on the SGS so the Nexus S port could well work.
Im running CyanogenMod and when i plug it into my USB port, it recognises my phone as Nexus S... Whether thats drivers or software i dont know.
But as mentioned earlier. 2.3 Beta is out now, and stable 2.3 will be out anytime...

But don't u want updates from Google and nexus s roms on our phone? That's the problem, I don't have a jig and what if the phone dies completley? I need this phone all the time. People have 2 or 3 galaxy s's so I am appealing them to try it and post results.

An unmodified kernel won't even boot. With a bunch of kernel mods it will boot and half work, but there's no point.

Lol i didnt say a nexus s rom will work i just wanted to say supercurio made it working somehow and it wasnt working all. but it started and he could show some stuff
Supercurio's project was a proof of concept, more than anything else. One issue that cropped up was the front-facing camera. The Nexus S' camera used a higher voltage than that on the SGS. A few people had their FFC fried. A few other things didn't work, too.
Is there a way to port that rom so we could get the official psone games instead of messing with emulators?

So I want to try and learn how ROMs work. Or maybe that's a little bit too much to start with, maybe mods and hacks and stuff. Is there any tutorials on how to start anything that has to do with development that someone has actually used and learned from and worked with him that you can point me out to? Or at least can someone tell me where I should start to be able to learn all that I need to know?
I've done some theming and editing .xml files and decompliling and stuff so its not that I don't know anything, just don't know enough.

Yes young padawan. You have much to learn in the ways of the force.
No disrespect to the OP or anyone else, but if you have to ask how then you aren't ready.
Do some research: take apart zips, find out how things work. Learn about Android as a whole (helps to also learn how 'nix) works also, Android is of course based largely on it), and most importantly trial and error.
The force is strong in this one, I can feel it. But he must complete the trials in order to fully understand the true nature of the force.

Well maybe I should be searching and doing things on my own but that's what I did when I started to theme a little bit and it worked out well. But I started by seeing one of travis' tutorials and with the help of shane with a lot of things.
So basically I need some help that's all.
And I too see that CM7/9, AOKP and all those are the same. Especially the 2 versions of MIUI. So I would like to start my own thing kind of like sence and blur. Sence would be something I would be interested in doing since I loved my htc phones before this one, but since its already started I will try and work on something else.
Ill pm you xboxfanj and we'll see how I can start working on it. And thanks for your offer =).

AOKP/CNA/Gummy is kinda like Sbrissen mod for touchwiz gingerbread roms on steroids. Like xbox said, the AOSP thing has been done to death on ICS. All we're getting at this point is some pointless fragmentation between the roms.
UBER/Biggorn/Big Goron or whatever name your using these days , I wish you luck with that endeavor. I tried to do my own for a couple months and realized that I was updating it every other day thanks to what was getting merged in on the other roms. Too much of a PITA for me so I went back to theming.

Hi all.
I have started a petition for Nvidia to provide us the ICS drivers for venatana board so that if our manufacturers are unable to provide us ICS, our devs can make a ICS build with full H/W acceleration by using those drivers and if we will get those drivers we will surely get latest Jelly Build also (actually i trust in our devs more than our manufacturers).
This petition is not for only Galaxy R but for each and every device based on ventana board and their users suffers lacks of H/W acceleration with ICS (like Lg Optimus 2x, moto atrix).
kindly sign this petition and show your support also spread this to your friends so that they can also support in our petition against nvidia and so that we can show to nvidia that how we care about our devices and we want drivers from you.
if u guys think that anything should be added or edited in petition leave a reply here or PM me i will do it.
rate this thread and also provide it as a news tip so that we can spread this thread on whole xda by xda-portal
Thanks.

While those devices are Tegra 2 devices, the Atrix uses a different chipset than those. Therefore, those drivers are near useless. Now if you took 5 minutes to read the other threads...

After reading through it, it will most likely not work at all for our device without modification. Our device doesn't play well with libandroid_runtime's from other devices most of the time.
And honestly, porting is hardly ever as easy as just copying and pasting. UNLESS you are working with 2 ROMs that are actually the same version. Like using a sense2.1 base to port a themed sense 2.1 rom, or a cm7 base to port a cm7 rom with a few tweaks.

I found that out the hard way.. Even if they are the same version you still usually have to fix a couple bugs and other various things, depending on the device you ported from.
