Slow boot up time - Kindle Fire General

Okay, so I noticed my kindle fires startup time has gotten slower. It went from 30 to 40 to 50. Itvis really annoying. It has Aldo seems generally less snappy than before. I am rooted running go launcher ex with a live wallpaper

Also, I am getting a 1700 quadrant benchmarks score, which is pretty bad for a dual core device. This is really starting to bother me

Why am i not surprised that nucentury, who seems to have NO interest in getting the Atrix since it doesn't have a Gyroscope which will apparently be such an improvement for gaming that Crysis might actually run on a phone if it had one, is bragging about random crap again. Or maybe he's not bragging, seeing as my Archos 70 Internet Tablet with a 250GB hard drive running Froyo already got a score of 1,778 in Quadrant running at 1Ghz. Or maybe it's the idea that benchmarks are completely meaningless for the most part.
And if you have to overclock your device and still can't reach the scores of the Atrix.... which as far as i'm aware i don't believe Quadrant has support for multi-core chips yet.... then i don't see what you're bragging about, really.

I have a Samsung Captivate. Just went through warranty exchange as I got one right after release and had been battling shutdown issues. After rooting and applying lag fix I now get between 2000 - 2200. I just ran it and got 2248, which is on the high end of what i usually get.
I wish I would have waited on the Atrix. Have fun with your new hardware dudes.

Yes, it does. With my old Captivate, when I went to add a shortcut to my homescreen, when I hit the applications button it would take like 10 seconds to load up the next screen with my apps list. And I had mine overclocked to 1.28ghz and all that jazz. This one opens it straight away. No waiting for anything to load.
What are the neocore benchmarks at? That's a pretty cool program to test the phones gaming ability. I'm not getting an atrix because I like my iPhone but I used to use android phones. Just curious about the phones performance.

The Streak is 800x480, as are most high-end large sceen Android phones, and the Atrix is pushing 35% more pixels @ 960x540, and STILL getting higher scores...
Plus, add in what others have mentioned that Quadrant is not multi-core capable, and you start to realize how much power is under the hood of this thing!

Atrix quadrant scores

Hello everyone. What's a good quadrant score for a stock 860? I have been seeing 2600-2650 on average, is this fairly common for this model? Is there a good way to prepare to take the test by closing apps, features etc?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Ive been averaging consistent 2500 of four attempts in quadrant after the 4.1.57 update. I normally run it just after start up and I get those scores.
I achieved 2740 with 4.1.57
I've gotten around 2900 once, but it usually falls between 2650 and 2800. To be fair though Quadrant only tests a single core, if you compare it vs say an inspire on stock rom (Or probably even a custom) at stock clocks it will only get about 1900-2100. So really the Atrix gets 20%-30% better scores and it's only using 1 of 2 cores. Another thing you'd notice on the Atrix is it has nearly no slowdowns, even an Inspire running at a 1.8 OC (battery life is horrible) will bog when you install/update programs while doing something else because it's still a single core and needs to share cycles across programs where the Atrix can devote a core to all background activities and the other to what you're doing in the foreground. I didn't really notice how fast the Atrix was until I had to fix something on my girlfriends Captivate (Gave her mine when I upgraded) and she has like 25 apps and a custom rom with a 1.4 OC and OMG it felt so slow compared to my Atrix.
I got a 2774 with the gingerblur ROM. That's the best I've ever gotten and I've run it on stock, 1.52, the new update and gingerblur. Gingerblur has gotten me, by far the highest and most consistent scores of all. I usually run between 2600-2750 under normal usage, which is quite a bit.

1-what kernel were you using when this 'bog' down happened at 1.8 ghz when something was updating. cause my inspire at 1.8 ghz while downloading a file through web, and updating apps in the market will still be faster than the atrix. ive NEVER even had so much as a hiccup at 1.8 ghz on my kernel, and i just did exactly that, downloaded a file, while 4 apps were updating in the market, and at the same time opened app to qr, and the apps loaded instantly. the atrix takes a few seconds for it to load up, with nothing at all going on, with all bloat removed and only the factory default apps on it. the inspire has over 100. also, i posted this elsewhere also, testing my kernel yesterday running at 1804 mhz all day long, i got over 16 hours off a charge with 3.5 hours screen on time. screen brightness was at 100%. if it was at 50 it could have went much longer. not horrible if you ask me. the inspire with a single core doesnt lag when a live wallpaper is put on it, and i can actually type on the keyboard without having to correct errors every other word cause its lags so bad.
just another note, my inspire rom and kernel at default 1ghz (no overclock) hit 2700+ quadrant
I just got 4000 on CM7
4900 with cm7 + overclock to 1.3ghz ;P
the motoblur software and at&t crap really slows stuff down.

I/O preformance is horrible

I ran androbench and this tablets i/o benchmarks are terrible!
How is there such a huge gap between the tf300 and the other devices used as references in this benchmark.
I am oc'd to 1.5 and have the sio scheduler enabled using atp tools.
Is this a hardware or software issue? Or am i misunderstanding these benchmarks and making something out of nothing?
Is there any thing that can be done to improve this?
Just figured id post my screenshots and hear some other opinions
can confirm this. Stock I/O is bad. In Quadrant about 300points behind custom Roms.
Well, are you guys happy with the performance of the TF300?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
This is exactly what I was suspected, really hope its not caused by cheaper/slower integrated SD storage chip :-/
There is a real impact on performance when accessing internal storage, my TF300 goes to a complete halt if I download using Torrent to internal storage. However when I direct downloads to my external class 10 32gb SD-card I can still somewhat use my pad for surfing.

Its a nice tablet, and for the most part yes but, a new $400 device should not be dead last in preformance on any test. And its not just a little behind, its so far behind on some of the tests it almost dosent show up on the bar chart. I would just like to know why this one aspect of the tablet is so much worse than other devices when all the others are on par or better then the competition.
This thread is asking the same question about the TF700: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766836
So far, signs are pointing to slow flash storage chips, which can't be fixed. Hopefully, someone can provide a good answer.
This is expected.

I am very happy with it. As I said its a Stock rom issue. I don't use Stock, so I have better I/O
I don't trust benchmarks so much. It. has to feel good, that's what counts.
Even with the lag of. I/O its a very fast tablet. I Am about 5200 in Quadrand and about 13000 in Antutu
Well im stock rom but using sio not noop. It did help a little. How much of a difference does using cm9 or aokp make? i dont really want to void my warranty untill i use it for a while to make sure its not going to crap out on me.
if you use rom toolbox you can actually boost the I/O i believe up to 4096 kb which should improve it.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using XDA Premium HD app
Rom toolbox shows it at 4096 i set it anyway and the benchmarks are worse
This is interesting.. I've noticed accessing the internal laggy at tines too. Like whenever I'm installing apps from Google play it is horribly laggy yet I can go on my galaxy s2 update 10 apps at once and not even notice it in the background
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Would running a custom ROM either help or fix this issue?
Well its either hardware or software. If its a hardware limitation then no, there is nothing that will drastically improve it. If its. Software then drivers or a kernel update could. At least thats how im seeing it.
AFAIK the Prime also suffers from the same crappy I/O performance. Also, I have read that the performance can be boosted up with custom kernels, so far there aren't any kernel devs working on the TF300T.
Using ATP_Tweaks changing the scheduler from noop to SIO has almost doubled my results in Reading and Writing Speeds, still the numbers suck (it went from 300-400 to 500-600).
always run a bench 5 times and get the average.. there is too much that interferes with these benchmarks especially the IO onces ... 1 background write and youll see a big drop in the score of the running bench...
Just ran antutu on stock...
Running in balanced mode.
8177
Data IO= 390
SD write= 7.1
SD read=18.2
Then installed atp_tweaks and changed to sio...
8065
Data IO=405
SD write=7.5
SD read=48.4
Only did a single run for each though.
Just run a quick test with the latest Skank. Just run it one time.
But as I told before Bench is not so useful. For me it all comes to the way the Rom feels. Never felt any lag in one of the Custom Roms. Can't tell anything about Stock, because I only had it on for about 10 minutes

Having lots of problems with my Nexus 7

I'm not sure if anyone else is having my problems. I'm running stock 4.1.1 with this Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831780 (I'm not even sure if that matters). My nexus 7 isn't nearly as fast as when I first had it. Its gotten slower. I'm having issues with multiple games randomly freezing my entire Nexus 7. Sometimes I have to hold down the power button for 20 seconds because it won't respond at all. Also, whenever I reboot it says "Android is upgrading..." then at the bottom it says "Starting apps" for a few seconds. I've had this problem for awhile now. I've tried clearing the Dalvik Cache, removing memory/storage, defragmentation, etc. I'm not sure why it is acting like this. Please help. Thank you!

Lol you don't know if it matters that you're using the elite kernel? Maybe you shouldn't be flashing kernels quite yet bud. Go back to stock kernel.
OK ill see if that helps, although I think the issues were happening even before I flashed it. How do I go about returning the the stock kernel?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
backup all your stuff to your PC, and load the factory rom and it will wipe everything clean including your SD. After trying a few roms I noticed there are some hidden craps that can't be seen by any file explorer and the only way to clear them off is flashing back to stock.
Hi,
Elite Kernel works pretty good. But maybe it has too much overclocked GPU for your device, yeah some device can't hold as much performance then others. Try flashing back the stock rom and see if it works
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
You really shouldn't game on 1.8ghz the elite offers unless you are using ice under your N7. The elite is not really for daily use just benching and seeing how far one can go. Imo pull the core speed down to 1.5 / 1.3ghz to see if your games become stable. Also try the motley kernel build 218 with the 520 gpu for everyday use. Cache whipping should only be done if your installing different roms and completely different kernels. the elite kernel is a motley build so no wipe is needed.
Cheers

I think you guys are confused as to which one I'm running. I'm using the one on the second post where the max speed is 1.5GHz.
The 1.5 extreme under volt? Actually that kernel flat out boot looped my N7 and the only way to get out of it was connecting the N7 to the pc. Ditch that kernel. Use the 1.8 / 650gpu pinkfix that kernel is stable at all core speeds for me. Imo just set the clock speed to 1.3 to reduce heat. The 650gpu setting at 1.3 / interactive / cfq will still give you 66fps on nena2. My best score is 71 at 1.8. I the heat build up for gaming is just to much.
Always clear data on setcpu and sys tuner pro when jumping kernels.
Concerning lag does power off then back on fix it for a short time? If so you might want to return it. Asus really dropped the ball on the early N7 runs. I love "Googles" N7 but I'll never buy another Asus product. Hopefully Google picks a better Manufacturer next time.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Ok. Do I flash this one: https://rapidshare.com/files/1034477848/Clemsyn1.8GPU650.zip or the pinkfix: https://rapidshare.com/files/223841402/Clemsyn1.8GPU650Pinkfix.zip?
Pinkfix. Run your games at 1.3 to see if their stable. Gameloft works best at 1.4 / 1.5 just watch the heat to hot and it will start to lag. THD games 1.3 TOPS their optimized and don't need the oc. Once your done messing with the elite motley build 218 520 gpu is a better everyday kernel for gaming. Have fun and always have a few different kernels in your download folder in case something goes wrong and you need to use recovery from the pc.
Cheers

How much free space do you have on your device? It's been found that the Nexus 7 lags pretty bad when you're running extremely low on space. Try freeing up a couple gigs and see if that improves things.
Also, following Jay's Recipe for Buttery Goodness will help greatly speed up your device.
Do you have your dalvik cache integrated into the ROM with Titanium Backup? That's one way to cause the "Android is upgrading..." to appear on every boot.

[Q] UI Smoothness of Nexus 4 vs any other phone (including sgs4)?

Hi all, i'm looking to upgrade to a nexus 4 and have heard praises for it's smoothness..
For those who have used a nexus 4 for a while, have you found any other phone smoother in ui experience?
...i can't stand things like skipped frames, stutters etc... this question especially for those playing around with the new sgs4 for comparison as it's a potential choice..
UI wise its buttery smooth, but some 3rd party apps are compete crap and will lag regardless of phone.
I am running Xylon ROM with Matrix kernel and also Nova launcher, phone is smooth as butter, very fast, zero lag.
I can almost guarantee that the GS4 won't be any smoother in day-to-day performance. I haven't found any phones which are better than the N4, and although the iPhone is obviously on par with the smoothness it makes so many compromises that you can't really compare them. The only place you'll potentially find lag is in third party apps as said above.
Stock kernel has the least lag in the UI.
Almost all custom kernels i tried do stutter regularly
To be honest, I never feel it lag on day to day usage but once it gets hot while playing games, it does throttle pretty quickly which leads to unexpected lag on the phone. But overall, as long as app is well coded, you shouldn't feel much lag.
Also like people said, flashing custom kernel will improve your performance and battery life dramatically. Running Franco with Paranoid Android and everything is buttery smooth!
I never used galaxy s 4 but I doubt that it'll be any smoother. S3 felt more laggy for me compared to Nexus 4 if that helps
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk HD
UI is pure buttery smooth. They have a S4 Launcher.zip you can flash somewhere in the Themes and Apps forums. If you want to have a S4 experience just flash that. Its still smooth lol.

thank you all for your reassuring feedback, might just wait for the alleged 32gb refresh of nexus 4.....yea the throttling issue is a bummer..for those who want an in depth analysis of this nexus 4 throttling can look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abf7nPiUUE8
All modern smart phones have thermal throttling. It's just that the nexus 4 has an extremely low threshold on the battery sensor which is set to start throttling at just 36 degrees Celsius, which in a hot environment leaves little lee way if any at all.
The lg optimus sister phone has the same CPU and battery but has a much higher set threshold regards the battery temp. No one seems sure why Google set the nexus 4 one so low; my grannies flat is hotter
.. I edited my thermald.conf to higher threshold of 44 degrees Celsius and along with a 150mv UV I have to really push my phone to get throttling.
even while gaming eg in NFS/other heavy games?.......any risk of bricking the cpu/gpu by setting throttling higher?

Increasing a little bit SHOULDN'T effect too much, but I wouldn't recommend that. There must be a reason why Google or LG decided to keep the throttle that low, and I am not going to argue about that as I'm not a huge gamer on my phone and the maximum time I played on my phone is 1.5hrs.
thats pretty cool...did you manage to circumvent fps drops in your game?

I've never really checked with games, most games I play don't tax the phone at all.
I ran antutu 4 times in a row to see if it would throttle and it didn't, that's the only real test I performed.
I haven't seen a phone smoother than nexus 4 on stock kernel. I also own an HTC one and it has a smooth ui, but my nexus 4 is a bit smoother than it.

you know what lags? texting. I dont know why. I use the stock keyboard.
My nexus 4 lags from time to time. I'm on cm10.1 with nova launcher. Home screen stutters sometimes. Opening and scrolling through the app drawer, messaging, or email stutters at times. (I have the music playing and low signal when I notice it.)
I don't know why people say it doesn't lag because, clearly, it does. The nexus 4 isn't up to, "par" with the iPhone UI. Sure, the 4.2.2 is buttery smooth, but I never seen an iPhone stutter, hiccup, or lag while my Nexus 4 occasionally will. Biggest gripe is when I open and swipe in the app drawer; The animation and picture loading lags when I scroll through it like a madman to test it and it drives me nuts, however nova launcher made it better.
Nexus 4 compared to Sense or Touchwiz, yeah, stock Android blows both out of the water in UI animations.
