Windows Mango on i9000 - Galaxy S I9000 General

Dear XDA forum,
I was wondering if it is possible to flash the new Windows OS (Mango) onto my
Galaxy S i9000. I just had a go with it for the first time and love to have it myself.
Im currently running the RC1 of Android 4.0 ICS if that is of any relevance.
Thank you in advance,
Vashan

In one word: NO
It's an closed source operating system so porting is really hard.
All the devs like android so they won't even try porting.

Ok. Thank you for the quick respons.

Or you can also try windows 7 launcher from market.

If its possible, it would be great.

I think it wouldn't be so hard since the Samsung Omnia 7 is almost identical to the Sgs. Being WP7 a closed source operating system the problem, more than the difficulty, are the legal issues.

There is 0% chance of wp7 on sgs. Hd2 is the only non wp7 phone with wp7 port, because it had development drivers released.

Meego on Galaxy S

Hey Guys!
Is it possible to run Meego on SGS? It is possible on HD2 and Nexus S, so why it wouldn't be possible on our phones?
P.S. Sorry for my English
Samsung haven't released i9000 sources, but htc releases sources for HD2 and google for Nexus S. I do hope that Samsung releases sources with 2.3 update since it will be last update from samsung for i9000!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
So the answer is Meego would be hard to get run with phone without sources.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
the biggest problem are some closed source drivers to my knowledge.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It's just a matter of someone needing to implement support.. Seeing as Nokia have mostly dropped out of the Meego partnership though (traitors), I can't imagine that the OS will continue growing much. At this time, it probably makes more sense to focus on Android 3 support

Dual Boot

Wouldn't a dual boot of some other os be nice right about now? whats an os out we should get to dual boot?
None. No other device uses the same hardware as ours and writing drivers for an entire OS is an unbelievable undertaking we don't have the devs for.

They don't have a dev community so not really. So far there has been one successful "jailbreak" that ruins their ability to update forever. Not much of a future there.

For 7 right? I know Windows Mobile 6 had the ability to dual-boot with Android just fine...

Yeah, I gave my wife my old touch pro 2, she runs froyo on it... doesn't even use winmo anymore.

The droid incredible can dual boot 2 android roms but that's becouse of its generous internal memory. It would be near impossible for us on our pathetic 400mb or so.

That's what convinced me to come to Android. I had a Windows Mobile 6 phone, and after dual booting with Android for about a month, I realized I liked it a lot better and decided that my next phone would be an Android one. And that was a big deal for me, because I was developing apps for my Windows phone but had never made an Android app before.

Very cool!.. I played with android on my TP2 before I got the epic
What build are you using for your wife? I have a couple of "non techie" friends who are stuck with TP2's and i would love to get froyo working on them. Does everything work? camera, sound etc?

The OS has nothing to do w/ whether you can dual boot or not. But more depends on the hardware and and what software and/or drivers the community has put together.
Comming from winmo, I see no reason why anyone would want to go to it from android.

You never will. It's mostly closed source and even if by some miracle someone got it working HP would sue them into oblivion.

Yeah I know. Just wishful thinking on my part. I love WebOS but the hardware they're giving it sucks beyond sucking.

A completely theoretical question....

Is it possible to run a whole new OS (in this case I was thinking WP7 Mango Beta) on our phones. It would be like a port over. I'm not talking about a Metro UI, I'm talking about the real OS. The reason why I ask this is because I'm getting really bored with my phone. I think it would be cool dualbooting a whole new OS.
So, is it possible?
I know on the HD2 it is possible. A phone that originally only supported windows 6.5 now has native android, windows 7, meego and ubuntu. So it is not a far stretch of imagination to say that it is possible on the mt4g. Will it be done? I highly doubt it, but hey, who knows. Maybe you can be the first to do it.

Well I would have to say that since there are licensing issues with any version of windows that this is unlikely... As it would then be a pirated copy of the OS!

The hd2 is what brought this to my attention. I had another question, how is hd2 able to run windows phone 7 without pirating issues?

The hd2 was originally a windows phone. It can be used with android because some people were really determined and put in some hard work to make it work on that phone.

Good question! To which my only logical answer is... By law it shouldn't be able too unless there was a leaked test Rom or something. But it was a windows phone to begin with, so maybe less of a priority because of that... The reason the hd2 can run android is cause it is an open source product much like Linux and can be put on anything

If you want until windows 8 comes out, there might be some people working on it. Windows 8 will have ARM support which will make it easier to get working, but would still need drivers for certain functions.

I see....so it, in all technicality, it is possible to get WP7 on our phones, but because of legal issues and hardware compatibility problems, nobody bothers to attempt it?

No one will do it because it's illegal, the devs would get a cease and desist order if they even attempt to put it on other phones....It may be possible but the lack of drivers would make it a no go, I don't think drivers would need to be ported from other phones from htc using mango already.

Well I don't trust Firefox..
mate the Firefox is the most trashy web browser.. is the only web browser that crash on my systems (yeah .. on 3 computers). Why I should trust the OS? I bet is gonna be a junk like the browser itself. Firefox lost their start.. now they are far behind.. the market is already shared! is gonna be a total disaster!
Would definitely be interesting..!!
since the firefox os is being developed for low end devices, i wonder if it would be possible if they can make a universally flashable image or something that would support all phones..!!
that would be amazing...

I completely disagree. Firefox is one of the best browsers out there! Nothing beats chrome, haha, but I think Firefox is right behind it. It's very fast and stable.
And Firefox OS is really smooth, from what I've heard around the community. It doesn't require a whole lotta juice from the phone.

I'm almost certain what you're thinking of is actually just an iOS-themed ROM called JoyOS. It's not actually iOS running on an Android device, but just a skin on top of CM7.
