What are your thoughts on SPB Shell 3D? - Atrix 4G General

Its on the Android Market. I haven't bought it yet but for fifteen bucks I am going to have to atleast try it. It supposed to be a 3D interface for your phone. Anyone play with it?

Please use search before starting a new thread. You can just "revive" an old discussion and might even find some info beforehand.

i like it alot in currently useing it on my atrix yes the launcher is way overpriced but the addons i dont think cost that much its really done in great detail an awsome animations

I tested it for about ten minutes so I could still get a refund. Here is my ten minutes wroth. Animation looks good, widgets are nice and it had very little to no lag wall I was testing it. But overall I think there are a lot of other launchers that offer just as good if not better performance. For 15 bucks it's just not worth it to me. So just give it a try for ten minutes and make your own decision about it.

Its just overpriced.go launcher is better in terms of functionality

Is a very good launcher but way too overpriced to justify spending the money.
Sent From Rob's Neutrinized ATRIX.

It's very well put together. The animations and transitions are a lot smoother than most launchers I've used. It takes a while to set everything up, since it has so many options, but I think it's worth it if you like quick access to information.

noticeably slower than moto's 2.3.x so I uninstalled it. mostly eye candy that was better than foyo but worse than gingerbread

I was super impressed when I first saw it then as I noticed that lack of config options less impressed. After waiting for it to load each time it crashed I decided it was garbage...

I was highly against this launcher due to the price and the lack of development support/ response... until a workaround was posted on mobilism... Its alright.. Quite honestly, just a bunch of hype of you ask me. It would probably be good for a WM phone since they are ugly out of the box anyway

Either way, very nice launcher!
I was hoping there was a demo or a lite version to experience it a little bit... this way I am not sure if I am sold on it - gotta pay $3 to experience - to late for refund then.
we'll see what happens in reviews - so far it looks pretty kewl

looks decent,
features i use the most on launcher pro...
continuous scrolling dock
(dock) swipe up to:
-launch another app (2 actions per icon)
-show 'leap' view
-show notifications
can anyone say if these features are available in this?
many thanks

i believe it has everything except the dock swipe
Do you know where I can suggest the dev some features ?
Most important for me is : set the default screen to the first one not the centre, put the "1-icon dock" on the right or left and not only in the centre, be able to choose the icons background.
Fantastic job for the rest. Super fast...
Edit : can someone confirm me that ADWNotifier works with this ?

The refund period recently changed to 15 minutes, contrary to the 24h earlier. What kind of person proposed this change, I don't know. This short timespan barely left me with any time to test ADW EX, so I ended up asking a refund because I don't feel like buying a product I'm not sure I like.
In short: it's not the devs fault.
Liking it...
.. but doesnt feel faster to me compared to launcherpro
Yeah sure you can set the homescreen transitions to fly by alot quicker than you can in LP, but overall LP just feels smoother to me.
Apart from that, my currentwidget now hovers between 9-16ma in standby, where my phone was consistant between 6-9ma with LP.

Certainly too short to really try a launcher that looks and acts seemingly like another one. Not enough time to find out any specific nuances that we may like.
In fairness though, I can't see any reason why anyone would change launchers to use this. They all look the same to me, with a few "little" features that hardly make the transition worthwhile.
Not knocking the app itself. Just don't get reinventing the wheel, and then releasing newer versions of it.

Haha nicely worded.
been using LP for about 3 weeks now, love it, however i just got ADW, been using it for like 30 minutes, and extremely loving it.
The one important thing i noticed:
w/ 7 screens in LP fully packed w/ widgets, folder, apps...when you 'pinch' the screen to view the preview screens it stutters. Like it lags the first time you 'pinch' it, after that initial swipe, it is fine. This got really annoying, especially when coming out of sleep mode.
w/ 7 screens in ADW EX fully packed w/ widgets, folder, apps...when you 'pinch' it is still smooth as silk, coming out of sleep mode as well.
I'm still comparing the two for now, i'll keep you all updated
comparing both w/ DS's SupperRam 1.5

I just made the same switch last week (3GS -> Atrix). Agree that MotoBlur sux and it's also been painful syncing contacts and calendar from my work's Outlook (going through Google isn't an option)
One reason I made the switch was for the less restrictive Android OS. However if you're on version 1.57, it looks like you have to take a few steps backwards to get ahead (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12540398). Looks like I'll have to set aside some time to play...

Get adw launcher and use titanium backup to freeze blur. Fixes that problem right up. On the other hand, try running gingerblur which has a clean UI and runs quite smooth. It also removes a ton of other bloatware on the phone. Everything except adw launcher requires root of course.

Blur USED to suck, past tense. It doesn't suck too badly anymore. And I can't see why a new user would say it sucks when they have no experience. This is just a blind statement.
I'm very picky with my launchers and if I could tweak Blur to look better and purge a few things I don't use, it actually wouldn't be very bad at all. But I like that with the other launchers I can personally tweak them precisely to my preference.

BLUR sucks.
Exchange 2003 notifications are broken.
Unified Inbox doesn't include GMail. (that's a hurr durr right there)
Duplicate functionality of what already exists (Social Networking, Accounts, Corporate Sync)
I don't mind the homescreen/launcher.
My biggest complaint with blur is simply the lag when switching home screens and bringing up the full list of apps. And that you can't change anything on the dock. And the widgets are ugly. Oh wait...that's pretty much everything that blur does I hate...

You mean the interface that is the exact same for everyone? The iPhone was made to be simpler. It's so everyone can use it. If you like being coddled by Apple, return the Atrix and get your i4.
It's up to you. WebOS is rising, WP7, BBOS (not as popular). Your pick, dude. Like I said, the iOS devices are made so that even a monkey could pick one up and work it like a pro.
If you're not going to take the time to tweak your device to your liking, go with iOS.

Have you ever tried TouchWiz? the iPhone wanna-be? Sense is decent, but Blur is one of the closest manufacture's skins to Vanilla Android.
Also, your opinion on Blur is your own. Many people love and use Blur, and many people do not. Just because you say it's the worst, does not make it so.
I advise you to try out all the other different interfaces, and tell me Blur is the complete and total worst you have ever tried.

Lol. It was obviously an opinion. I did not in any way said im representing the whole android community duh.
I have tried touchwiz, sense and the LG UI already. And of course i've also tried the original android stock UI.
I kinda want to know what people doesn't like on motoblur. The panels? You can empty all of them and end up with 7 panels on witch you can put whatever icons, shorcuts, widgets (and so on) you like. I'm coming from sense but I can customize the motoblur to look just as good. Don't feel like using launcher pro and already uninstalled regina 3D and adw. I woulg probably give a spb a try if they would have a trial.

I'm also coming from an iPhone, and here are some things I think are superior on the Atrix (and Android) to the iPhone (and iOS):
1. Non-intrusive notifications! I hated how on the iPhone, notifications pop up as dialogs that have to be closed. Sometimes you're doing something important, and you get a text message which pops up right in the middle of the screen. Irritating! I like how you can slide down the top bar when you want and it shows you your notifications.
2. Notification LED. It's great to be able to tell that you have messages or a missed call without having to turn on the screen.
3. Four hardware buttons instead of just one. After you've used the phone awhile, you'll realize how useful a back button and a menu button can be. You have to switch back to home less than you do with an iPhone. Also, hold down your home button and shortcuts to your last 8 used apps will appear.
4. Every application must advertise what features of your phone it has access to in the Manage Applications settings pages. So if an app can read and write to your contact data, it says so in the settings. On the iPhone, you have to rely on Apple to make sure all apps are doing what they're supposed to. Worse, if you get apps from Cydia, well then you're completely on your own.
5. You have 15 minutes to get a refund if you buy something from the Android Market. That's a pretty short time if you have to download a big application, but better that than no refunds at all.
6. Having the option to use an external micro-SD card is pretty nice.
7. Unlike the iPhone, the home screen and the app drawer are two separate things. It's nice to have widgets to customize your home screens.
8. For obvious reasons, Android versions of Google applications tend to have more features on Android than on the iPhone. For example, Maps has that cool 3D compass view, instead of the regular "up is North" top-down view. It also has a Street View add-on which is pretty neat and works quite well.
9. GPS seems faster and more precise on my Atrix than on my iPhone (and my friend's iPhone 4). I've heard others say the opposite with respect to the iPhone 4, so maybe it depends on where in the world you are.
10. For Bell users (ATT users have to pay I think?), Mobile wifi hotspot works great. I've tried tethering my Macbook Pro to the phone via wifi, and it works really well.
11. There's a basic data counter built in, which shows you how much data you're using, and by which apps.
12. There's a pretty decent Battery Manager built in, which shows very clearly what percentage of your used battery was used by each phone function, or application.
13. It comes with Swype as an alternate input system to the virtual keyboard, but you're free to install other 3rd party input methods if you like (there are quite a few).
Well, I don't know if I missed anything, but for the most part, these are the things that impressed me the most after using the Atrix for a couple weeks. I'm very happy I moved to the Atrix, but that's not to say that I hate the iPhone. I still like it, it has a very polished feel and the best screen in the business. And after all, it was the breakthrough smart phone when it first came out. There are just a few things that I think they really need to improve (notifications!).

I liked some of the features of Motoblur, like having the Manage Applications settings right in the menu of your homescreens. Very useful. Some of the widgets are nice too. My major complaint is that Motoblur is so choppy when scrolling around! That's unacceptable for a high-end phone, in my opinion.

New Galaxy Tab owner, some questions and comments...

So I just came over to the galaxy android side of things from the ipad. The so far, (and with my verizon 4g mobile hotspot in hand), I'm mostly impressed. It's really a beautiful device and I really enjoy honeycomb.
However, my stock tab is incredibly laggy in normal use. This manifests most notably when moving App icons around. Another good enough example is angry birds which runs MUCH smoother I on the ipad. Honestly, my galaxy s2 feels much more responsive in normal usage also. What's going on here I thought tegra was supposed to be better than that? So far I'm a bit underwhelmed with the performance.
Also, what the heck is up with the lack of sd card slot? I'm absolutely baffled by this missing feature as I foolishly assumed it would obviously have one. 32GB is nowhere near enough storage for what I plan on using it for.
And what's up with the lack of netflix?

Hmm... First of all,ios does have a smoother build than android. Android has been released like tero years? But ios has been here for more than four years. Android needs time to catch up. well, then samsung's own tweek about android does slow down the system quite a bit. however about angery birds I myself feel it's about resolution.i feel the one on ipad has lower resolution than the one on android(this is my own observation,i have absolute no evidence to bakup my theory), anyone can confirm or correct me please.
Would any of the dev made launchers work properly with a Honeycomb talent and would it likely help with the lag? It is bothersome especially when my galaxy s2 feels much smoother. Thanks guys.

Suggestions
1. If you want to stay stock honeycomb and it starts to lag between screens, click on + symbol on top right of homescreen, then click other or wallpaper or one of the other options, don't do anything else, then just click the home button to back out. Lag should be gone. Don't know why it works but read it on one of the other forums and it works.
2. Spend $3.50 and buy ADW EX in the market and make it your default launcher. Spend a day tweeking the settings to your liking and you will not see much lag. There is also Launcher Pro Plus but the new update makes ADW EX better IMO. Many forums here will help you set up or tweek ADW EX. Leave your lag behind!
3. What else are you doing while playing Angry Birds? I have never had an issue with a game except for the ones that aren't optimized for honeycomb and are made for a phone. (Which I don't know how anyone plays these games on a phones screen)
4. For typing I absolutely suggest Thumb Keyboard on the Market. I don't know how I went that first week with the stock keyboard. Worth the $2.
Happy Tabbing!
Thanks for the tips! Unfortunately I need another. I just performed that system update thinking it was a good idea but it put that god awful touch wiz ui on my tab!!! Is there any way to get stock honeycomb back??

you can go back
But you would have to do too many things above my pay grade to get it back. Not sure if a factory reset would do it, pretty sure you would have to root the device and flash a honeycomb 3.1 rom.
I like the touchwiz, I'm just hoping somebody comes up with a way to make the task bar black so it doesn't look so bad while watching Netflix. That is my only real dislike. And the innability to switch apps on the swipe up. A world clock, wtf am I going to need that for?
Everything you need to get your tab exactly how you want it is here. Including getting back to stock 3.1 as well as putting a black bar on touchwiz, or overclocking your processor, or yes even using custom launchers from the Market or from some of the great devs we have. The whole beauty of Android, IMO, is that we don't have to accept what the manufacturers give us. Everything you need, files, instructions, and further reading is in the "Look here first" sticky in the development section. The key is read read read, read some more, search, read read, and read. I love my tab because I can make it my own.
A factory reset will not remove the TouchMyWilly update. Honestly, it seems like you rushed into this purchase, especially given that you didn't know it doesn't have a MicroSD slot prior to buying it. 32 GB is actually quite alot if you use cloud storage. You can also get the USB adapter and transfer files that way.
But, it seems like you're not pleased with the Tab. There's no reason to force yourself to like a gadget. If you're still able to return it and give yourself some time to properly shop around for something that fits your needs then maybe you should consider that.
You can also check out the Android Dev forum a few links down from the General. That will show you how to root and flash a pre-TouchWang ROM. I didn't like the update at first, but it's grown on me.

Not as bad as it seems. But it would be great if Samsung published a sdk to make use of their customization of the Android shell. Yeah, I have read a little of the forum for the black taskbar but I am not that well versed in android to go messing around with folders. If it was on a PC I would be good to go, just need a simpler solution, hopefully an update. At least the taskbar matches my keyboard, just looks awful when watching Netflix.
Thanks for all the responses.
The tab itself is definitely growing on me. I still find it perplexing Samsung left out the micro SD slot; it's one of Apple devices worst "features" and for Samsung to copy that seems bizarre.
To be honest, I have no idea how to go about setting up cloud storage. I'm just used to old fashion storage methods. I have Google Music but really don't know how to get it set up as a network sharing player. I know I'll have to read read read, but I simply don't have the time right now to get into such an endeavor.
Really, don't let some of my negativity fool you. This tablet is awesome. It's just a bit of shell shock coming from my comfortable experiences with the ipad and my knee jerk dislike of the Touchwiz UI I had no idea would pop up in that update.
I'm very much a fan of stock OS's. Especially Honeycomb, I feel like if it ain't broke, why fix it?

Because Honeycomb IS broke. It's a beta, an interim build, came out of the oven months and months before it was ready. The TW update is a partial attempt to address some of these problems, and add some extra functionality.
As for looks, for a lot of people, Honeycomb is an eyesore in stock form, color-wise. The very cold color choices are not welcoming.
I daresay most non-geek people aren't fans of neon blue on black, or of faux-retro computer fonts, and above all else, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was meant to compete in the mass market, so it needs mass market visual appeal.

Hey, I totally understand.
I actually really liked the neonish theme of stock honeycomb. It matches very well with the neon color of swiftkey keyboard and just gave a very futuristic vibe.
The added functionality is nice, but that can always be addressed through widgets and apps.
As an aside, what is the name of that app that organizes widgets by grouping similar ones in the widget menu?
Like all of beautiful widgets would lump together into one until you click it?

I had a Superclean ROM running on my Fascinate phone that collapsed widgets into folders (ex: all the Beautiful widgets into ONE).
I'd love that on my Tab.

It's a matter of preference. I like the TouchWiz update as it eliminated the worst feature of HC 3.1... the typing lag in forums. I also like the Quick Access panel in the bottom-right corner. One or two clicks to get to what you need, unlike the 4-5 clicks it takes to get to the same things on HC 3.1/3.2.
I am also wondering if this was a rush purchase for you if you didn't realize the Tab 10.1 doesn't have an SD card slot. Not picking on you, please don't misunderstand, but if an SD card slot was important, you could have picked up a 32GB Asus Transformer ($460) instead of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB ($600) and used the savings to buy SD cards. I don't have money to burn (says the guy with a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and an Asus Transformer, lol ), so I do a lot of research before I drop $600 on something.
You can't "uninstall" the TouchWiz update once you have it. Wiping the Tab with a factory reset does not remove TouchWiz. You'd have to load a custom ROM to get rid of it.
And as far as Netflix, just head to the Themes and Apps part of the Galaxy Tab forums and grab the Netflix .apk from there. Easy to install, even for an idiot such as myself. That's the only thing that's making me want to keep the Galaxy Tab over the Asus Transformer at the moment.

4 daya with the gs2 after wp7

Well, of all the android devices, I had to use Samsung. They seem to be the only ones who even attempt to make the android software user-friendly. For my little experiment, I went a full 4 days without using WP7. A full four days using only android. Overall, I enjoyed the games. Dungeon Defenders is a great game that I've poured time into, but the battery life of that thing makes it impossible to play for any fair period of time. I even picked up the Mugen battery with double the capacity, it still had horrid battery life. The hotmail simply doesn't work, regardless of settings the built-in mail just doesn't work. You have to install third party apps to check your email, it's sad. The UI leaves a lot to be desired, it takes a lot of rearranging and way too much management for my taste. I tried other launchers, themes, and folders, it just seemed really haphazardly tossed together. Even as a, "Facebook machine" as most use it, it just doesn't seem to work well. The hardware is great and it would be great if well implemented, but everything short of the gaming I could do on wp7 quicker, smoother, and hassle-free. If customization is your bit, android all the way. It won't be pulling me away from WP7 as I want something that really works and does t cause more headaches than it resolves. Anything you guys would recommend to make an android experience more... User-friendly?
Cool story bro

rooting and flashing an AOSP ROM?
I personally hate TW like hell especially on ICS.....its makes everything look crap.
As for facebook, the official app is always slow IMO. I recommend using Friendcaster.
And for hotmail, there is an official hotmail app from MS i believe.
edit: I personally just auto forward my hotmail to my gmail so therefore no need for third party email apps
I wouldn't use gmail if it was the only email service there was, can't stand it. See, I, disagree though. I got the phone used and it had aosp on it and I went back to stock because I hated it. touchwiz is the only considerable hone replacement I've stumbled upon. I'll check out friend caster though. I want to like this phone, but it feels like someone wrapped a ton of capability in something...
Android is good, unless 2 problems: short battery - high degree
OP: I totally agree with you. Its something iOS and WP7 beat Android in.

Never got on with TW/ASOP which was one of the reasons I stuck with HTC and got the Sensation, the built in Apps seem more polished, take the email client and Polaris office on the phone, if someone sends me a .xlsm file, I can open it, something IOS and other Android devices I've tried cannot do. The Blackberry playbook can, but that's poo.
Do people still use Hotmail as a daily address rather than just a spamtrap? I haven't logged into mine for about 4 years now, I only have a live acount these days for accessing MS services like their licences page.
Hate gmail but use Android? Makes absolutely no sense.
Thats like me using a Windows Phone and hating Bing.
keep on trying to promote WP7, you may actually stop the losing market share.

Im confused...you had an SGSII, got rid of it months ago and then bought another one to "try out"? That doesn't make much sense at all...
U sir don't know what android is about. When u start messing with rooms and customization u will know.Give it some time. And flash aokp or cm9 loads of features

I REALLY don't get you. Android is common sence. Download a easy launcher if you don't know what your doing. Android was never intended for people without common sence if you read they're story.
Also, you saw samsung has the most user friendly interface however all android phones have the same basic stock ui. The layout is the same just different styles.
Remember you have widgets

Had a gs2, didn't like, heard ICS fixed all that I've hated, gave it a shot as I'm an equal opportune type when it comes to an OS,.still the same issues. The OS just isn't very intuitive.
Anyone got a ROM that will give me more than my hour and a half battery life? Something with Swype as the stock keyboard won't keep up.
Matty, don't mock someone common sense until you can distinguish the difference between, "your" and "you're" or, "there," "their" and, "they're."

use AOSP not that bloat filled ugly thing called TW ontop of ICS
Just sign up for Swype beta and you can get swype on any device
Last I signed up for Swype beta, there was a waiting list. AOSP isn't really appealing to me. It's pretty unpleasing aesthetically.
No more waiting on swype beta. Just sign up.
Or you can use WP7 keyboard.
Hour and a half battery life is a over exaggerated, dont you think?

each to their own.
If you dislike android so much; go back to WP7
Won't is my main OS, I use it as my daily driver.
I tried the imitation wp7 keyboard, it's still a bit slow. I'll sign up for Swype beta and look for more battery friendly roms. I wish I was exaggerating, my phone dies faster than it charges while plaiting dungeon defenders.
How can you use something as gimmicky and non-user friendly as WP7 and say Android is not intuitive? Basically WP7 is similar to the beta Windows 8and can be considered a step backwards for MS going by the new UI so I wouldn't exactly call WP7 intuitive and user-friendly/

Z2 graphics performance

Hey all, I was in John Lewis playing with the new Z2. I noticed that the live wallpapers were really slow and the transition between pages seemed a low frame rate. No way near as fluid as on the Galaxy Notes. I was a bit surprised, surely as the latest and greatest device it can eat any live wallpaper for breakfast?
I was planning on buying the Z2 LTE but I was a little put off by what I saw. I closed down all the running apps on the device but it was still not smooth. I put on the stock water drop live wallpaper and it ran even more stuttery than on my Nexus 7 (1st gen)!! Surely that can't be right.
I expect my Dualboot Games live wallpapers to run buttery smooth on my next tablet!
Was that just a freak occurrence or is that just how it is? Hopefully one of you guys can put my mind at rest or I will pass on this one.
Forget this stupid stock launcher. Totally irrelevant.
I don't understand how people judge a device by preinstalled crap.
Install another launcher (Nova, whatever), and there you go.
Live wallpapers are battery eating, superfluous s**t anyway.

What is there to understand? I had to judge it on that cos it was a display model in the shop. I cant go customising it lol. Thats why Im on here asking the question from people that own one.
Was it the stock Sony launcher at fault? Is the stock launcher really that bad or is the device just like that regardless? For a premium device I would expect the stock launcher to perform at a decent level at least.
As for live wallpapers being superfluous s**t, that's irrelevant. Its been a feature of the OS for a long time now and I was surprised that the device struggled so badly with it. Like I say with seemingly less performance than my Nexus 7.
I was ready to buy one but from what I saw in the shop it made me nervous to drop £500 on it. So Z2 Tablet owners how is the device performing with 3rd party launchers? Im really expecting it to be silky smooth even with a live wallpaper running (obviously I understand some LWP's are badly made and slow no matter what device).
Any comments appreciated!

Are you complaining about the launcher or the wallpaper? If it's the launcher, I barely see any lag at all. For the wallpaper it will depend on the wallpaper, the tablet is very powerful with a decent graphics chip, but if whichever wallpaper you are using is badly coded it won't make a difference.
When the tablet in the shop was fresh out of the box, it's no wonder that it was lagging. For instance, the media scanner will run and other first-time apps and background services will be started. An Android device is always only at it's real snappiness a few hours after first start.

It wasn't new out the box, it was on the display. They had rows of demo units on display. I closed down all the apps too. There was a lot open from people playing around with it.

It was more the wallpaper. I tried the default Android water ripple one and it was really slow, slower than on my Nexus7. Also the standard Sony wallpaper. Swiping through the screens it just wasn't as fluid as the Galaxy Note also on display. Must say it shocked me a bit.
Do you own one? Im after gauging what its like for people that actually own one. Because I know what I saw on display but I only had a short time with the device. I am asking what its like for you guys that own one. Is it smooth and fluid with 3rd party launchers? Do live wallpapers slow it down a lot? I know there are badly made LWPs but Im talking about good wallpapers, does it handle them ok?
I had been waiting for the Z2 to come out but after playing with it Im having second thoughts. I want my next tablet to be hassle free. I dont even want to be flashing roms, Im fed up with that, I want it to be slick straight out the box.
Im considering one of the Tab Pro's or even a Win 8 Pro tablet. I played with a Sony Tap 11, I know its a different device altogether but that thing impressed me! Its so light considering its a full i5 PC.
Slick straight out of the box? Seriously, take an iPad or a Windows machine.

Yes I own one, I've had no problems with lag of any sort.
Thanks Jai23, I will take that on board.
Hasenbein that's funny but sadly true!
I am going to have a think about it and try get another demo of the Z2. What I would really like is the latest Asus Transformer that comes with Tegra 4 graphics. That's the kind of graphics grunt I know I would like but they don't do an LTE version for some reason.
The Adreno 330 in the Tablet Z2 has at least (!) as much "graphics grunt" as the Tegra 4! If you notice lag, it's not because of the "graphics grunt"!

Ok guys, based on your replies I will go give the Z2 another demo. Especially now I've learnt that the Tap 11 isn't 4G.
My next tablet absolutely must have 4G. Its surprising there isn't much choice when it comes to 4G on tablets. All top end phones have it but not tablets.

I have been using my Z2 with some high res games and have not had any problems, a fantastic tablet.
I have gone ahead and ordered one, delivery Friday.
Its been a long time since I bought Sony. I used to buy nothing but Sony but their build quality and service went down hill and let me down so I boycotted them. Their latest stuff caught my eye though. We are in this together now guys..

I dont see why you wouldnt try customising it. on the demo model in john lewis, I found an open wifi network, logged on with my google account, installed antutu and minion rush and tested them both to see how well it ran (very nice). Then I removed my account from it again. problem is the tab pro 10.1 also ran very nicely!
Also, there are going to be a number of software updates from sony that will fix issues like poor live wallpaper response. Although I too think they are resource hogging garbage!

Late reply considering that you've bought it but the reason that the store one was laggy was because it had been on for a LONG time. Given it a reboot should have fixed it.

Yep very well might have been that. I did try closing all in the switcher but maybe a reboot was needed. The poorly optimised Sony live wallpaper doesnt help either. Makes the device look slow! Im happy with it now!

Received mine yesterday, and it is pretty damn nice. I had the TF700 for a while, and it seems so slow compared to the Z2, that old thing.
But you do have to install your own launcher, dont use that Sony crap, not so bad compared to usual stock, but other launchers are so much more customizable, why would you want to keep it stock!
Just waiting for a root option without losing the ability to backup DRM keys...
