[Q] Is my MS2 bricked? - Milestone 2 General

Hello every body,
I have bought my ms2 yesterday and i have decided to dont root it, so i went to motorlas web site and update it to android 2.3.6. But after see the MUIU from will5 i changed my mind i decided to install this custom rom. So i tried Gingerbreak to root my device, but tha app doesnt work i run it and he stay foreer with the mesage that tha phone is being rooted and nothing happen, so i presse home button and it closed and the fone stayed ok. But the only way i know to root this fone with ginger was that app so i decidd to try downgrade my fone to froyo again. i downloaded RSD Lite, upgrade my bootloader from 70.12 to 70.13 and tryed to install froyo retail again, the process look good but when rsd show the message rebooting fone the fone do not reboot and after rsd shows progress complet (Pass), so since that my fone is dead, can turn on in any mod or do nothing any one can help me to save my fone? And after that try a working root method? Thank You and Sorry for my English

You did exactly the same thing. Once you are on GB, you can't go back to Froyo. And don't worry your phone will be okay.

use SuperOneClick from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 to root your phone. make sure USB Debugging is on, plug your phone and click on Root menu in the app, then sit back and relax.
but without the ability to go back to froyo, MIUI is out from your custom rom Option as MIUI cannot run from GB kernel base.
however, there is CM7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338183 (and an inprogress CM9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374497) that you could try if you want to experience custom rom. functional wise, CM is better than MIUI (imho), but MIUI wins in fancy UI & themes.

thanks guys i think i will keep my phone with the default rom, i will only root it remove the unsued apps from TIM, and install a MIUI launcher. Did U think is a good ideia?

I don't think MIUI launcher works on stock ROM unless they have released a version compatible with all android 2.2 or 2.3
You can try Espier launcher from market. But it is more iPhone-ish than MIUI-ish.

Hi. I'm assuming your phone is rooted? If so, download ROM manager, and you can preserve the ROM from there...
To view stock ROMs please visit samsfirmware<dot>com and download the ROM you want i.e. version, brand (network specific), country etc.
I'll be honest, haven't once regretted upgrading to Froyo. For more information on upgrading see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880

This does not work for me - it installs nicely, and the phone seems rooted. When I started Titanium Backup, the screen froze. After rebooting the phone the phone wasn't rooted anymore. Weird. Tried z4root, didn't work either. This on a new 2.2 phone.
can i ask U where can i download and install android 2.2 for my blade?
thanks.
Modified z4root where permanent root works! by kallt_kaffe
but it seems to be just another custom rom, isn't it? i just wanna have android 2.2 and dont loose assurance... i dont know if there is official release yet..
anyway, thanks
Was answering op, best bet is too root clockwork mod and flash custom, you can revert by flashing stock to which will also remove clockwork for if you need to return for warranty purposes.
ROM in sig is sweet

P.S When I try the hard reset the phone doesn't show the green android but only the FTM message.

[Q] 2.3.4 jvp is missing some important app

hi guys i install 2.3.4 from samfirmware and when i check i have no CMW and Superuser app installed in it.......can anyone tell whats that mean coz i m really stucked that how i make the titanium backup without supperuser......coz it is not allowing me to use titanium backup and some other apps.
The firmware from samfirmware is official, so it does not come with superuser or CWM. Check the dev section and flash a kernel with CWM, and superuser. I suggest CF-root.
or hardcore.. speedmod is the best on my jvp for now
can u plz tell me what is dev section and how i get rom from their plzzzzzz
I'm wondering, you had a phone with root, superuser and cmw before upgrading to 2.3.4? How did you get your phone to that point before this upgrade? Because the process would be the same really.

DEV Section
sorry for that i cant get ur word that time.....thanks for this and plz tell me which one is best rom.
My advice.Do not flash rom before one week of reading posts in xda forum.
What about Sammy application, which are missed in 2.3.4,?
I was affected to Konami Crazy Cart game
I miss the allshare application!!!!!!!!!!

I still have Allshare in 2.3.4, downloaded from SammyFirmware
in 2.3.4 some apps just like Superuser and CMW is not built in it........but this firmware is bit fast then 2.3.3 u can manually install superuser
superuser and cmw are not built into any android version. You can dowload superuser from the market but I believe your phone needs to be rooted to use it.
In effect these are after market add ons that will give you more functionality. But they are nothing to do with google.
Ali, if you don't mind me asking did you purchase your phone second hand? Or have someone else do some stuff to your phone for you? I'm only asking because I would normally assume that a person that has rooted, and applied cmw to their phone would know that they've done it after market.
Anyway, hope everything goes well for you so far. But have a good read around the various forums in the i9000 galaxy section. There's lots to learn.
well my phone is rooted buddy last i m using jvk rom 2.3.3 and i have superuser and cmw in it and the darky and other all contain these apps but this one not have these apps.......so why it is
Go back to the first page of this thread again, and read carefully what everyone has said... again!
All the answers are there for you!

Darky's ROM comes pre-rooted, as do most of the roms in the DEV section. The rom you installed (JVP 2.3.4) is a STOCK rom from SAMSUNG. Stock roms do not have CWM, Superuser and are NOT rooted.
You need to read this whole thread again. All your answers are in it. Simply, custom rom may contain cmw, root and su. Non custom won't. You have non custom.

Video tutorial for absolute newbies: How to Root + Upgrade + and load Custom ROM

Hey everyone I decided to make an in depth video tutorial so that no matter which version of Android you're running you can follow along until you reach the part of loading a custom ROM (in this case zdzihu's final Cyanogenmod 7).
This was made so that even the biggest noob can follow along this video tutorial if you're stuck with the X10 due to a contract why not get the most out of it?
Q: Have a an error? Got stuck?
A: Please use XDA search since I didn't do any of the developing!
Q: Why start from Android 2.1 and show every single step until finally flashing the custom ROM?
A: This was done intentionally so that no matter what version of Android you're on, if you find the video part that is like running the same version of Android as your X10 then you can follow along from there.
Q: Doesn't it seem a bit too long? I've seen shorter videos.
A: Again, this was done intentionally so that even if someone is currently on Android 1.6 or 2.1 they can follow along. I want to show people how to backup apps before losing eveything, its pretty annoying otherwise.
Q: Why bother showing every step?
A: My g/f and two friends are stuck with the X10 until their contracts allows them to hardware upgrade until next summer, I want to help other people get the most out of their phone. I don't care about donations, if this helps one person out I'm happy with that. It sucks paying tons of money for a device that is laggy and be stuck with it for years. XDA members have helped me many times, I just wanted to contribute back somehow, the more people share knowledge for free, then the world slowly becomes a better place.
In part 1:
-How to backup contacts (like I said, for newbies )
-How to install a driver for the computer
-How to root
-How to backup apps
-How to upgrade to the official Sony Gingerbread
In part 2:
-How to root Official Sony Gingerbread
-Downloading XRecovery
-Installing the Android SDK
-Installing Xrecovery
-Downloading xRecovery update
-Downloading Cyanogenmod 7 files
In part 3:
-Download Cyanogenmod 7
-Restoring apps via root method
I take no credit for any of the rooting methods, or making the cusom ROMs, this is simply a video tutorial, all necessary links are in the Youtube video description.
Nice work mate...
Apply for sticky, so many people ask these questions, yet you're probably the first to take initiative to make an ultimate Q&A
Thanks for this and I am sure that it would reduce A LOT of clutter.

Hi. Very nice work! I have a question though. My phone is already running on 2.3.3. Do I disregard the first root of the phone using superoneclick? Or do I have to flash the 2.1 version and start from there?

YES! you don't have to downgrade to 2.1!
its works for me , thanks
Wow that's so much easy to follow! I have just one question.. ( i am a noob) ok I was able to get GB ported through my phone when the rollout for GB was happening so it was a flash upgrade no root.. I have app to sd card installed and moved everything i could over to sd card for the apps that i couldn't move over is there anyway to get them backed up? or do i have to flash back to 2.1 and do this process from the very beginning?
thanxx for this fantastic topic!

I no longer have an X10, I'm using a Nexus One, but with Titanium Backup I'm able to backup any app even under these conditions: app on internal memory, apps2SD and/or apps2ext (its always backed things up). It should work for the X10 as well. There is no reason to go back to 2.1 as long as you are rooted.
If you're ever in doubt download a random app from the market and back it up with Titanium Backup, uninstall the app and restore it with Titanium Backup, thats the easiest and safest way to test. *Remember your phone must be rooted to use Titanium Backup*
Ok the phone is now rooted but I have ran into another road block, first is when i try to install xrecovery from the link provided it comes up with a mass lot of letters and symbols theres no button to click install after you click it initially.. Also I'm trying to install eclipse and get the android sdk but everytime i go to install eclipse i get this message...
"The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library"
What does that mean? what have i done wrong???
Ok since the last time i posted i went through everything again i sat down and worked everything out and now i have a rooted x10 on GB and most importantly i am running CM7!! thank you soo much for the helpful tutorials! even a complete noob like me is able to complete this. I can safely say that you have helped that one noob you wanted to help.
So now that i have done setup to get to where i am now, if i wanted to change to a different rom for some reason now do i just bascially download desired rom and load it through xrecovery? so long as i have the compatable bb71?
Thanks again!

Glad to read it worked out. I no longer have an X10 (using Nexus One) but yes, you should be able to flash other roms via xRecovery, I suggest you always make a backup first. *Note I have not tried other ROMS via xRecovery, try at your own risk, please research on how to flash your desired ROM before doing so. There could be certain variables that could cause an error such as: wrong version of xRecovery, kernal issue, baseband issues, etc.* Do some research in the correct thread of your desired ROM and I'm sure someone will be able to answer, best of luck.
p.s. Sorry for the delayed response, I'm swampped with mid-terms.
That's all gotta prioritize the more important things in life, im just wondering it seems to me that cm7 drinks the juice a little more than the stock 2.3.3. I do have a thread in place to find out as to why theres mention of calibrating the battery but i'm unsure on how to do this im waiting on a response in my other thread. eventually i want to get to 2.3.7 before if and when the devs make a ics port.
But thankyou again and good luck with the exams.
thanks!!! it work perfectly
Thanks for your information
Nice tutorial!
Thanks you
My x10 doesn't reboot! =/
Hi clozecall and thanks for the help:
While doing everything you said in your videos (I'm a noob), I got stucked in step N° 2. After flashing with "aZuZu Kernel - Upgrade" my x10 doesn't reboot correctly. The SE logo just appears and then it turns off, and again the logo and again off and over and over... any idea or help pls??

Flashed this

The phone wont bootup so I reflashed an eclair sbf. Any more ideas on how to updgrade this thing to froyo? This phone is seriously frustrating. I would throw this thing if it was mine. Things are a lot simpler with my Note
I have to tell you now that the motorola 2.2 rom is absolute rubbish. Motorola really screwed over defy owners.
But luckily you have XDA
1. Okay so from Eclair you should try and find a 2.2 sbf restore your phone to using RSDlite.
2. From here you want to root - search for "z4root.apk" its just an apk you install and you do one click to root. (not in the play store, search google)
3. As well as this you need to install busybox and also install defy 2ndint from the play store.
4. Next step is you need to install a recovery application - Clockwork mod works great.
5. For your first rom im going to suggest you install CM7.2 (stable release) as it is probably one of the best roms to start off with.
Its fast, may not have all the features of other roms, but its super fast.
6. Put the rom in your SD card
7. just boot into recovery (there are applications on the market that do this for you - or you can do it the manual way if you know how to)
8. Wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (for clockwork it will be in the advanced section) and then install zip from sd card.
If you really cant stand CM7.2 which is based on gingerbread and you want ICS or better, use Moto ice gun ICS rom.
Its the best one around in my opinion
