Miui for Galaxy tab 10.1 and others - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if there will be a Miui android 4.0 rom for android tablets?
A few people i know are getting tired of the same ui from Tw, sense, and even vanilla honeycomb, and i personally agree with them, that it would be nice for a ui change

I'll work on it. I just finally got the epic 4gs miui.us into an official state, so I'll work on this too. Once there's a tablet that has miui.us ics I'll get it on ours. If a tegra 2 tablet gets it, it'll be a piece of cake.

Since 4.0 is the "universal android" there should be no need to wait for a tablet port, it should be possible just like porting older miui versions, with the cm9 kernel, libs, etc, although picking a native miui 4.0 device with the most hardware in common would be most beneficial.

Miui in galaxy tab would be really cool.

I havent flashed any roms on my tab yet, but this could be the one rom that makes me want to do it.

It should be somewhat easier now with miui being open source.

Its not really open source yet. There's nothing we didn't have before. They just decompiled a few apks which people can do easily. For now, idk what tegra files do what since I'm used to powervr so I may need to wait for a Xoom or tegra device to get miuiics first.

He probably will, but it won't be for phones, it'll be for tablets. Honeycomb is well known to not be made for phones.
OP it should also be noted that the current ports are almost entirely non-functioning, and really just a proof of concept at this point.
I thought it was already established it can be used on phones because
of all the different resolution folders in the system .
There is actually nothing saying HC won't work on phones. As far as it being merged into CM, that will happen if and when its dropped in AOSP, as Steve and the gang only build from source.

Sure it was. The features being showcased in the video where this whole stupid rumor originated are the only things that were "for tablets only".

Just saying that Google openly stated that 3.0 is for tablets, and 2.4 is the next iteration for phones that will incorporate features of Honeycomb back to the phone OS.

I think it'd be cool if there was a decent TV out option. Things may get a little cramped, but I'd give it a shot. Would be sweet to dual boot it because as a daily driver it wouldn't be as good as something like CM or Virtuous.
It was posted today on AndroidSPIN.com, just cool to look at the ui since nothing really works yet.

Honeycomb isn't as polished as gingerbread is internally, and it was developed to run on tablets. I wouldn't run it even if there was an official version for our phone. Google needs to tweak it some more before I'd say its ready for mainstream.

Touch Wiz UI or the 3.2 update?

Both are right around the corner. If getting TouchWiz delayed us getting the 3.2 update and ICS which of the 2 would you rather have for you Tab?
Touch Wiz 4.0 or Android 3.2 update?
Knowing Samsung I doubt we get both.
I'm not really concerned about 3.2. Isn't it really just optimization for smaller tablets? I'd rather have TW now with all bugs fixed and working great.... then they can slack til ICS all they want as long as they send that out at a reasonable time.
I'd rather have 3.2
TW just makes my Tab laggy, I installed ADW EX and it's smooth as silk
Despite my initial apprehension, I'm actually digging TW, so I could pass on 3.2. However, if ICS is the major upgrade it's supposed to be, I'd drop TW in a second.

I believe ics is supposed to be open unlike honeycomb. meaning cm is a definite possibility.

I might be wrong but I think I read somewhere that Cyanogen said there is no CM8 BECAUSE HC is not open. I guess that implies that CM9(ICS) is more than a possibility.
Don't really know how CyanogenMod entered this discussion, but having tried it on my Evo, I can definitely pass on that for the Tab as well. It was cool, but still has way too many annoyances you just shouldn't have to put up with. Switched to MikG on the Evo and never looked back. o
wow, I think that's the first time I've ever heard someone say they don't like cyanogenmod. I suppose everyone has their own tastes but I've been using it for almost 2 years now and I have no intention of ever looking back. It kills me a little bit inside that there is not HC version. Looking forward to ICS.
Also, if we're discussing whether or not it ICS will be a major update, Romain Guy(from the Android team) said at one of his talks during Google I/O that they are putting more work into ICS than they have for any other version except 1.0. It's going to be huge. Cannot wait. I'm also equally excited to get myself a nexus 3/prime/whatever. my n1 is starting to show it's age..

Will we see Ice Cream Sandwhich?

Either through ota updates or unofficial ports?
sorry
I don't think officially we will get ics. But there standard a great chance of getting it on our tablets. If you need icecream right now I suggest doing as I do.Dairy Queen is close to most everyone.
Good luck

On a serious note I do think it will be ported to our device.
OK take me for a blizzard. I just finished dinner.
Quit making me hungry
Because ICS will be optimized for both tablets and phones, I think we'll begin to see a lot more tablet support from Cyanogenmod.
Speaking of which, I'm looking at buying an a500, and I was trying to find out if there is either a beta, or an unofficial CM port, but when I searched this forum for cyanogenmod I got 0 hits. Is search broken, or am I missing something? From what I've read, the bootloader lock was cracked, so why is no one on the whole a500 forum talking about CM?
I am not 100 % sure but I think cm is still on 2.3.whatever whereas we are on 3.x.x

I think that we may see an official update through Acer depending on the requirements Google has for the hardware part of ICS.
I also believe that CM will most likely stay exclusive to phones. Although ICS will support both phones and tablets, I don't see CM moving away from making custom Roms for phones.
However, I do hope that the CM team will be willing to try something new seeing as the ICS code should be very similar for both Tablets and Phones.
I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Cm as you pointed out is a team so all it takes is for root on a tab and a team member to get that tab and I'm sure cm ICS will make it to tabs.

cm did great work on the nook color, they did what they could to make 2.3 functional on the nook adding bluetooth, bottom status bar w/ buttons and much more. i cant wait for ICS to come out and im sure they will throw some tablet love our way.

Because there never was a CM for honeycomb, so to simplify things they skipped CM8 as they skipped Honeycomb.
Ahhh...completely forgot about Honeycomb. Thanks!

How amazing and refreshing is this:
The branches that you care about:
-android-4.0.1_r1 is the release branch, ITL41D, that is expected to
ship on Galaxy Nexus. That's the one you want to be using to port to
devices.

Not from Google themselves. They've stopped support for the N1 so best bet will have to be somebody here making a ROM for the N1.

As someone who stays as far away from CM, I am hoping for a very very vanilla AOSP 4.0 for N1. I almost wish that google would built it but just not OTA it, and let developers figure out the space issue..
There is no need to worry about small system partition size.
BlackRose is the answer.
We'll get ICS

I wonder where the drivers could be obtained
I guess GB drivers does not work on ICS
It's going to be a little more complicated to bring to devices because the device is now considered "obsolete" like the G1 and the Ion. Hopefully someone other than Cyanogen can make us a good AOSP rom.
Nexus S, a.k.a. "crespo", and Nexus S 4G, a.k.a. "crespo4g", are supported with gingerbread, but can't currently be used with newer versions of the Android Open-Source Project.
Nexus One a.k.a. "passion" is obsolete, was experimental in gingerbread and unsupported, and can't be used with newer versions of the Android Open-Source Project.
Android Developer Phones (ADP1 and ADP2, a.k.a. "dream" and "sapphire") are obsolete, were experimental and unsupported in froyo, and can't be used with newer versions of the Android Open-Source Project.

Why do you stay far away from CM?
Some people just want no customizations even as little as they might be.
But if CM manages to get a rom working on the N1 someone can take that as a base to build a vanilla rom.
So I'm pretty sure this will come!

Well although I am running CM7.1 right now I really can see the reason for this. I ran an unrooted version of Vanilla GB since about February and only decided to adjust recently to get ready for ICS after it was announced we wouldn't officially get it. I know Vanilla has less features but it somehow just feels of a higher quality at times. Bit of a less is more type of thing.
Has everybody seen the Cyanogen Twitter feed? Two months for stable builds of CM9 and work on CM7 7.1.2 continues in the meantime.
(Nothing specific mentioned about the N1 though)

[Q] MIUI 2.1.6 Coming to Epic mabye soon perhaps?

http://miuiandroid.com/2012/01/miui-rom-2-1-6-ics-v4-0-miuiandroid-english-version/
So many devices have this newer version of MIUI and some of them are the Vibrant I9000 and Captivate. Does this mean we are next to receive it since our fellow Galaxy S have received it?It says it's based of ICS 4.0 and seems like the only Rom close to bringing us any type of ICS goodness unless CM9 is coming first. Im just curious I saw the list of phones that have it but the EPIC wasnt listed and I became sad.
Anyone know more of this than I do really hoping it does come to our phones..
Sorry. We won't get it until after cm9 is available and considering that the cm team for epic just started on cm9, we're still a ways away. Sorry, but I just steal their stuff and add it to existing miui.us galaxy s series devices roms. So without it, I have nothing to add from epic. We can however get the gb version of 2.1.6 (the miui.us team is doing both gb and ics builds still). The CM team is incredible, so give them some time and they'll give us a great build. I think on ics, I may have to recommend cm9 over miui.us 4.0 because miui.us looks 99.999999% the same as miui.us gb, but cm9 provides a fresh new ui. Just my opinion though. I'll continue to maintain miui.us on ics as long as there's enough demand.

How come you keep saying its the same, i looked at the screenshots in the original release information and it looks a lot different. I saw the music, gallery and contacts app and those look like a mix between MIUI and ICS which is exactly what I want.

Thats pretty much all they changed though. There's a better browser and slightly different user interface to the messaging app. At least based on the videos I've watched and talking to people who've run it on the Nexus on the MIUI.US IRC.
EDIT: It looks really nice on the Galaxy Nexus though. But on the Nexus S/4G it looks pretty much the same as before.
