Hi
I have a friend with a Kindle Fire in the UK and is stuck with installing paid for apps. I know you can install .apk files by downloading them directly to the kindle but how do you go about installing paid for apps. We need to access exchange email so looking online touchdown from nitrodesk does this but how can you get the .apk file?
Can somebody recommend either a way to install touchdown including licence or recommend another app that does exchange email that can be downloaded to the kindle fire. I dont want to root the device if possible.
Thanks
Sully
touchdown for smartphones is a free app on the android market
i could download it for you and upload the akp if you like and don't want to root
If he can buy apps why not just buy Touchdown?
What you are asking for is against the rules.
I thought the native email app supported exchange.

That is a 30 day trial
sorry - i wasn't aware that it is just a trial
but a short search on the android market gives a lot of exchange capable apps
also free ones - don't know which are trial and which are not
I just looked the Android native email app supports exchange and active sync but Amazon stripped it out on the Fire, All the more reason to root and install another ROM
I don't think I am asking for anythign against the rules, applogies if it came across that way and no the native app on the kindle fire does not support exchange active sync.
Touchdown is $19.99 on the Kindle, you can download the app which is 30days trial and then you have to purchase another app to activate the product http://www.nitrodesk.com/fire.aspx
The issue is how can you firstly download the apks whilst in the U.K and secondly how can you purchase the activation if you not got US creditcard.
I don't have the Kindle with me yet so I can't try anything out so this is a preemptive question hoping other UK kindlefire users have sorted this already.
Sohail
Just read that Touchdown provide a link to the apk for the app and activation via email so now providing I don't need a US Creditcard to buy the activation I should be O.K.
Thanks
nitrodesk has also it's own downloads with the apk's
http://www.nitrodesk.com/download.aspx
go there with the browser of kf - download - install
and you'r done

i don't know how to install exchange certificate to i9000. i tried from setting->location & security->install encrypted certificates
both cer and pfx format can't be recognized.
the same certificates can be inputed to win mobile system and working.
when you think of it
I have the same FAQ
What are they, where to put 'em (in order to install 'em), how can We manage etc
It would be nice some more experienced can explain us these questions ...
p.s. My main concern is I can NOT buy anything on the market
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4461360/how-to-install-trusted-ca-certificate-on-android-device
Conclusion: Android 2.1 and 2.2 allow you to import certificates, but only for use with WiFi and VPN.

So it seems like a difficult task, I'm afraid. Unless that's changed in 2.2.1 or newer, of course.
Although, doesn't the Samsung email client allow you to accept any SSL certificates (there's a check box during account setup)? I would assume that means it'll accept "snake oil" certs as well?
And in what way does market issues have anything to do with importing custom certificates, Vanto?
Thanks for clearing that up for us !!!
Regarding "market issue" I'm not quite sure how can 1 buy anything...?
I've opened payment method via Google Checkout in my Google account and
(I must note that there's NO PayPal for my country, yet)

Check if your country is in this list, otherwise you cannot buy paid apps: http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=143779
PS: As per your profile, you are in Macedonia which is not in the list

Ah, so that's what you meant. Sorry, didn't get that from your first post
As seltaeb mentioned, it seems paid apps aren't available for Macedonia (yet).
However, you've created a Google Checkout account? If so, use the app "Market Enabler" (Google it) to gain access to paid apps. I've used this before paid apps were available in Norway, and it worked very well. You'll still be able to pay with your Google Checkout account.
(You can also use Market Enabler to get access to apps that are only available to specific regions for example.)
By the way Android recognizes only .p12 files. Just rename your .pfx to .p12.

Here is one for you: I bought a Kindle Fire for my Dad for Christmas. I want to install apps he will want before I give it to him (xfinity tv app). Is ther a way to use my amazon account on the kindle to install the apps then set it to his account after I give it to him? (I have to root to install android apk stuff, but need es-file explorer from amazon app store first...kind of a quandry).
I do not want to register it for him with his name, using his email address...that would give away the secret when he gets a confirmation email.

I believe you can register it to your acct and do what you need to do then de-register it and give it to him.
Thanks for the reply, I guess that's what I'll do.
When you deregister, all content via the amazon market is removed.
Anything you purchase using YOUR account will not be available to him in His account.
I would simply wait until he gets his unit setup in his name and assist him. You can sideload the ES file manager, or use another one.
This is the quandry I'm in with the Fire I got my mom for Christmas. I'm thinking I want to be as hands off as possible though so she can get a feel for her new computer. I'm thinking I might help her favorite the gmail mobile web version, but then let her play with it. I did get her an Amazon gift card to go with it, so she can buy some apps, or books to have on it.
I found the way around registering my amazon acct, open the built in documents app, it lets you browse to the apk files, when you click them, it installs. I first did this to install root explorer, then it's all from root explorer sideloading.
I dont know if its already here with the solution...
But after the update 4.1.1 the Play Magazines app disappeared from mi N7... I already did the factory reset and nothing... Any tips?
Thanks!
Same here. Also Google Play Books, Movies and TV, Wallet were disappeared. I have no idea what's going on.

Where r u from? It seems that these will only work in US.
Use titanium backup to defrost them...
Titanium backup requires root. BUT I FOUND A WORKAROUND MYSELF:
1) Update the desired app through the web-based Play Store.
2) Then uninstall it from within the Play Store on the device.
3) TADAAAAA you'll see the app in the apps menu.
4) Update it again from the device.
Hit "Thanks" if I helped.

Another workaround:
Just remove your Google account and re-add it BUT KEEP IN MIND that you have to be connected to a US-based VPN all the time.

What about using MarketAccess or MarketEnabler whilst Wi-Fi is turned on and phone signal and GPS turned off?
When my Play content disappeared my 'fix' was to remove my Google account and re-add it. You'll notice the Accounts option under settings within the Play app itself. So I just switched to a different account (the Play app only seems to let you use one at a time, unlike eg gmail where you can add all of your Android associated accounts) and then back to the original one.
Worked for me anyways, hope it helps :good:
I've seen some talk around this forum about porting Sense apps into the OP2. That would be great. But in the meantime, being a former HTC guy myself and a lover of the Sense UI, I used the HTC Mail app for my work email which is exchange and also for my personal email which a pop account from my ISP. The HTC Mail app allows for multi folder syncing when setting up the account. But it's not the kind of syncing that just lets you pick any folder you want from your Exchange account. It actually syncs the many different folders and displays all the messages in the main display as well as the POP account. So far I haven't been able to find a third party mail app that will sync with Exchange like this. I have been able to install the HTC mail app but it does not allow for the creation of the Exchange account with that app, only through GMail.
If anyone can make any since of this, I'd appreciate some input/help.
Thanks!
I recently discovered the mail app CloudMagic, it's perfect, at least for me. It allows you to:
- Get instant notifications (I.E. no sync intervals).
- Have separate mailbox for other accounts (I'm using iCloud and Gmail) as well as an "All inboxes" option.
- Manage the folders you wish to sync from each account.
I know it has support for all types of accounts (including Exchange).
Hopefully I'm on the right track.
You don't need a whole new Rom for a couple HTC Apps and the Sense Launcher. In fact you don't even need Root.
Install the HTC Apk's from here: http://www.fulmics.com/htc-sense/
But dont forget first of all you need to install these Apps: HtcServicePack , LocationPicker and HtcLocationServicesSetting

Thanks. I have flashed some of these. There is just a couple of nuances that don't get transferred. Like the exchange account from the mail app doesn't work and I have to use IMAP email instead.

So I got a cheap Disney plus account but am in Ireland,
Thought I could use my vpn and download the app straight to the box from my Google account but this isn't working,
What's the easiest way to get the app,
Ideally the actual Android TV app so it work well with the remote without the curser,
Any help or advice most welcome

VPN should work with play store
But you might have to wipe
Play store app cache or something

I've set my vpn to USA and none of the US apps are coming up,
Will try your apk anyway thanks.

Yes, might try creating a new Google account with US settings just to get the app,but then I'm like,do I really need this Disney plus anyway,
Cheers though,
The apk you gave throws an error when installing which makes me think they're blocking by more than just ip address
Creating a American gogle account with your VPN set to America seems to work when you sign in to your shield with that account you can get the app.
Hello. I'm looking for a solution to get Disney plus working outside US. I created a new Google account with my VPN and it is OK but it needs a sms confirmation and I had to get my French phone number. Then I saw that my Google play was in FR.... ****
I tried to switch my Google play in US with my PayPal account but bad try
As it is a French postal address I think I'm still with a FR Google play account. I can download the app but I have an error message - > I'm not in the good region
So I'm still looking for a solution please!

To receive sms code, you could try using some temporary sms services website...
Don't know if it works in this particularly case, but worth a try.
