I bought a Galaxy S from Bell Canada in august. Made the update to JH2 trough kies. Had the GPS bug (locked fine, but was sometimes way off (1-3 streets off)).
I told Bell. They said they didn't know any GPS problem affecting their device.
I tried many differents things, but I still had the problem so I recorded tracks with both my Hero and my Galaxy S to prove that the Galaxy S has a bug.
I called Samsung. I told them that I had a bug with the GPS. They said that they were not aware of any GPS bug affecting the GT-i9000M (the canadian version).
I went to Bell and asked for a repair. Seems like I was the first in Canada to report the problem because they told me again that there was no report on such problem, so it must be a specific problem with my device. They give me a Samsung Omnia II for the time of the repair. Worst touch screen ever, almost useless compared to a Galaxy S.
My device came back "repaired" (what they did was a factory reset and allegedly a ROM update, but it was JH2 before and after the repair, so this is bull****). In short they did nothing but loose my time.
Of course, I still have the exact same bug, the repair guy probably didn't even test it.
I call Bell again. Shock! Horror! They admit that there is a problem with ALL Galaxy S. Finally! Not that I told them since August... And it's not only in Canada, according to the tech support agent, it affects devices from all around the world. And that I shouldn't worry because the update to 2.2 will be released everywhere in the world in November and will fix that. Great!
Oh wait. The update to 2.2 is already released in some parts of Europe. I am not even sure that it fixes the GPS. At least I have an audio recording of Bell telling me that the bug will be fixed with an update in November. Better than nothing I guess.
+1
Two thumbs up for your effort. Hopefully canadian sgs froyo update comes on November like the rest of the world....

Good job. Please keep us posted when froyo released.

sorry to say but some tech reps are more informed than others because they take time to do their own independant research. One tech i talked to barley knew a thing about the galaxy S, while another rep was fascinated by it and couldnt wait to get their own. Mine is in repair for faulty internal SD, lets hope froyo will fix the gps, as i didnt send it in for that issue.
Those who know something about the Galaxy S (and other smartphones) are the so-called "data" support.

I agree data support are the only ones that know anything. I called customer service like 5 times before they gave me someone that knew anything, ala data support.

Well, I think that of course the response is "we haven't heard about any bugs". It's business -- they aren't allowed to admit to anything unless an order comes from the top to announce that a certain bug .. or a few bugs have been found. I haven't seen any admittals from Samsung that SGS is slow, laggy and the 2.2 update is crap. Or that there are any bugs at all. That would crash sales.
Same here
I got pretty much the same info. been through the same ordeal. I don't think I can last til the end of november for a maybe fix that might not fix anything or might get pushed back to january or even february or??? At least now with them endorsing the issue it should not be as hard to fight for an exchange, maybe get a Z.....
root your bell sgs, go to /system/etc, open gps.conf
change from:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
To:
NTP_SERVER=xtra1.gpsonextra.net
you don't even have to change *#1472365#*. I get lock to 10 sat in Montreal within 30sec. give it a try!

Well that's not the GPS bug I am talking about. My GPS locks just fine (as already said). The problem is that it is not always precise. But anyways xtra1.gpsonextra.net seems farther aways (mesured by ping times) than north-america.pool.ntp.org, so it should not fix anything.
And north-america.pool.ntp.org works just fine on my HTC Hero.

Well the thing is, when you know that there is a bug and you hide it to increase your sales, you do not deserve any customers.

I am very curious as to what software you used to record that call?
You didn't use a Korean Galaxy S (SHW-M110S) by any chance, did you? Because its firmware has a native call recorder function that I would die to get my hands on, but unfortunately Samsung doesn't allow international Galaxy S users to flash to the Korean firmware Send me a PM if you know how to force flash it!

All companies do that. Focusing on all the bugs takes the attention from the good to the bad. Basic stuff. All the companies that made you any of the things you own operate on the same principle. This is business. This is life.
But this does not mean they are not working hard on fixing the issues -- believe me, they are. Our comments and complaints are very important in bringing these things out. Stuff that gets discussed here on XDA dev is _vital_.

I got a revison 1.4 of this phone a week ago, and the phone has been better than the Captivate I left behind. I got bored of Andriod, and needed a change. I have been searching the web regarding updates to the revision of this phone, and haven't seen anything recent. I am on software version 7004, and I am aware about the different memory used in 1.4 compared to 1.3. I don't want to unlock the phone, and force an update. That's the reason I got away from Andriod to begin with. I spent too much time dicking around with custom Gingerbread ROM's. So, anyone heard of when updates will start hitting for this phone?

Did you get it at an AT&T store? If you did you might might to take it back and try to swap it out.
I bought my Focus a few weeks ago and ran into the same issue. I had the sales rep check the the rev# when he was putting the SIM card in. It was 1.4 so I asked for another handset. Unfortunately, that was the last one in the store at the time. He told me take it and if I didn't get the update in a week or two to come back and he'd swap it out. I went back a week later and he grabbed another new Focus. We checked the the rev# and it was 1.3. He swapped it out at no charge. When I plugged it into Zune it updated through NODO. Still waiting like everyone else for the security patch.
i got a Focus last may 15 and i checked if i had 1.3 or 1.4 after finding out that issue and thank God im on 1.3m i got it from an ATT store
Guys how do you check to see what version you have? I have one coming Monday from AT&T online and you guys have managed to scare me stiff.

You have to check the little white sticker behind the battery cover. I decided to exchange mine today for a 1.3. I found an ATT store that had 19 in stock, and only had to check one box to find a version 1.3. The weird thing about it is that this was a new shipment of 19, and probably all were version 1.3. From my past experiences with Samsung, I decided to play it safe with the exchange. The new version 1.3 updated without any problems. Regardless of who is to blame, it still strikes me that the version 1.4 can't even receive a February or March update.

Hi,
I just have a basic question on what people think and how the update would be handled if it would even happen
I have purchased my Acer a501 with optus (Australia's 2nd Biggest Mobile Network Company)
My Acer is on a yearly plan inc 2GB/mth for $40/mth for 12mth. ($480 inc data) not a bad deal! considering i seen sales for 1.5 the price in shops.
anyways I am excited about ICS, and hope I will one day use it.
does anyone have experience owning a device which is sub.branded with another company eg: optus/acer Iconia.
when I switch my unit on, it says ACER, then a OPTUS logo is shown until it's booted
will this type of unit retrieve updates via system update notification? that be same as unlocked A501's?
or Will i be required to ROM my system to a standard a501 and let that find the ICS updates when they come out.
Info I can give on my ICONIA is this.
Android Ver. :3.2.1
Kernal: 2.3.36.3+
Baseband: Cust:R3C01 Config:R4B01 Conf: R3C01 Protocol: R3B01 App:R3C01
Model No.: A501
ACER APN: 1.186-1
FLEX Version: 01_AAP_OPTUS
BUILD No.: Acer_A501_4.064.01_AAP_OPTUS
any info you can give to shed some light on this would be nice!
Cheers all!
Shaun.

Well Shaun, I would guess when Optus decides to release your update, you will receive notification. "When" it will happen, is anybody's guess. But the updates will arrive via OTA.
(the "OPTUS" logo after Acer, is just the boot animation).
If your tablet is "locked" to OPTUS right now (insert a different Sim and see what happens), then it will probably will be locked to the network after OTA. This "locking" is in a different section on the tab, and is NOT effected by software installs. At least on the ATT models.
So, when they push ICS OTA, you will still be locked.
But like I said, turn off the tab, put a different brand Sim card, and start the tab. If you get prompted to enter a 16 digit code, you are locked to OPTUS.
Or, as in the case on one of my friends on Rogers, it said "registered on the network". So, see what happens. (although it shows APN for rogers, only because his network sim is a new company and isn't listed in APNS-conf)
the first thing I tried when I got my tab was a TELSTRA sim
it worked and i browsed a website to be sure
it's optus branded but not locked
YAY..
seriously...
YAY! haha

Great! Guess you're not locked to a specific network like ATT.
You'll get your ICS update eventually But don't worry, they only started pushing the 3.2.1 updates to the 501 users just recently.
are you a Master user here?
I would like to see a sticky for acer Updates and keeping it updated to see what gets what and when.
so if ICS is out in USA but not OZ.. then I can see hmmmmm we getting jibbed!
and I can start to look for a custom rom for my system hahaha
Mate we ALWAYS get the shaft for most things... At least Optus releases an OTA update in a "timely" manner, Telstra is a ***** for releasing ANYTHING new...
Have never stayed stock with them....

Define "Master User"
Have I modded roms? check
Have I brought tabs back from the brink of death? check
Will I flash anything I think is usable? check
Do I flash untested kernels? check
Have I ever bricked my tab? Nope (semi-bricked my Desire 2yrs ago in the old days, but recovered) Does that count?
Am I an Android programmer? Nope. I know enough to get in trouble. I am what you might call a "fry cook"
So, do I qualify for "Master User"?
If you are on a "stock" unbranded 501, you will receive updates directly from Acer. This means you will probably get them first. If you have a "branded" device, it will be up to the network provider to decide when to release them.
Considering there are no "official" updates to ICS for the 500 or 501, then no point in discussing it. It will come when it does.
We already have a thread in the Dev section pertaining to leaked updates and roms. Believe me, when the 501 gets an ICS update, I will personally be all over it like Monica on Bill Clinton. Heck, I'll go back to stock just to snag the update file

501... proverbial "red headed stepchild"
Man you are lucky that your a501 is on 3.21.
I am one of those whose a501 was locked (to rogers) but has been unlocked for nearly 3 months (paid 25 to get it unlocked) as I'm a bell customer.
We are still on stock 3.2. Haven't seen or heard anything about any 3.21 update yet.
I use ics RC 4.2 for my i9000m and cm9 for my p1000m. I can't go back to GB. Hard to think that.
Can't wait til ics comes out though. Really loving it.

Thanks for participating
Thanks for your interest in providing fast feedback about the upcoming AT&T ATRIX 4G software update.
Here's how it works.
> Up to a thousand AT&T ATRIX 4G owners will receive the update. If you sign up, your phone may be included.
> This is what we call a "pre-launch soak." We'll watch what happens for about two days, just to make sure there is nothing wrong with the update or the update process.
> You will be trialing FINAL software. This is not a beta test. In most cases, this is the software that will be released, unless we find an extremely serious issue. Your feedback will help us identify issues that may require a later fix, and help us prepare others for getting used to the new software. Your feedback will be extremely valuable and we do hope you will take part!
> When you receive the update, we would appreciate your quick feedback. Selected users will be provided a link to a private community shortly before the update is pushed. All of your comments and questions should be posted there, and that's where we'll provide more information.
> Downgrading the software to the previous version will not be possible.
> We will also distribute one or more surveys to get your evaluation of the process and the software.
If this sounds good, please confirm that you wish to take part by completing this short registration form.
Thanks!

I just hope it's all worth reverting to stock and having to manually re-install all the apps. I hate not being able to use backups.
Could it possibly be time to put down the pitchforks and stop burning effigies of Punit?
It can't be bug fixes for gingerbread I don't see why they would do that. Hopefully its ICS.
I just accepted so I'm going back to stock.
Although I have fruitcake only (no sbfs) and because the wifi doesn't work using it's kernel then I will need to use Faux123's kernel. That's as close to stock as I can get right now, I hope that's enough...

I will admit it at&t really screwed up not bringing out the marshmallow update.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Why no weather update on the lock screen? I liked how it changed the scenery and according to what the weather was like at the current time.
Settings>Wallpaper>Lock Screen. No live weather to choose after update.
Any CSC can update to this Rom (I have ZTO)?
N915TUVU2CPE3 = official baseband
N915TUVU2DPE3 is what is offered here ....
I plugged in a USB OTG drive and it causes crashes after less than 1 minute. I spoke with a t mobile tech and he stated that the baseband version is unsupported by them. Said something about it belonging mostly to the note 5.
Looking for an official N915TUVU2CPE3 build if anyone can find it please let me know!! By comment or by message
Thanks

My OTA update gave me DPE3.
Thanks man, it's strange they're saying that this baseband has no support (because the T-Mobile page has a typ-o) I tried calling and pointing that out but the tech person seemed confused and didn't really know what to say or do when I told her to escalate it to someone who could figure out what was going on there with the web-page.

Yeah must be some clueless people that answer troubleshooting stuff as opposed to questions like yours.
But yes, I'm not sure what your problem is or why you nned support in the first place (when you have google ) but that baseband is what I got OTA and I am 99% happy with it
