My point exactly ,,, these specs don't even mention EDGE !!
Thats because its not EDGE compliant. The HTC Apache is the EDGE compliant version of the Wizard.
The specs I have posted are official as they have been confirmed with the supplier.

As far as we have heard and seen in the States, the HTC Apache is the CDMA version of the Wizard and has EVDO (and thus not EDGE which runs on GSM). Rumor has it that the Wizard (at least the one that will be released by the US GSM carriers) will have EDGE.
The specs here confirm the EDGE rumor on the Qtek 9100: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4173.html
Oh crap my bad.. sorry, yes the Apache is the CDMA version and apparently the Wizard has EDGE.
Here we go:
http://www.qtek.fi/qtek9100.htm
does anyone know if this will have support for USB 2.0 (the sync port)?
OMAP 850 specs
Well, I got a bit curious and went digging on the TI site for information about the OMAP 850 and found this:
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...00&path=templatedata/cm/product/data/omap_850
Based on this I would say that yes, it is possible that the device has 802.11g (The diagram shows a/b/g) and they could very well have Bluetooth 2.0 (Did anyone spot a BRF6300 chip on the device?).
Robert Harrold
Houston, TX
Very unlikely that it will have anything above 802.11b.
In the specs:
CMOS 1.3Mega pixel with fixed lens
Or
CMOS 2.1Mega pixel with macro lens / AF
anyone heard of a unit selling with the 2.1?
Also, I in the specs under MSD:
Blackberry email client (Optional)
I heard of a blackberry client available for the Magician, anyone have it?

The diagram only shows peripherals the processor supports... The final call is the sole property of HTC whether to put an a, b, or g. Just like Intel Bulverde supports Wi-Fi internally, Palm Treo 650 (Bulverde 312 MHz) doesn't come with Wi-Fi.
Bored of those "my Tytn has this defect, my Tytn does not do this" threads, lets start a new subject: A better Tytn? Eten M700
In the Internet you can come across the info on a new communicator – E-Ten M700. The announcement is expected in November. And now we have some preliminary info.
The M700 is said to inherit from E-Ten Glofiish X500 the support of GPS and Wi-Fi. The model will be the first in the lineup to have a sliding QWERTY-keyboard.
The communicator is expected to support 3G networks and carry 256 MB of flash ROM onboard. Some sources name smaller memory size – 128 MB.

It is fake ...
No wheel? No OK/Win buttons? No 3G? No front camera? And what's with the vertical D-pad?
Obviously (Assuming it's not a fake) this is a mock up, and specs aren't final, but the only plus I can see for it is GPS, which I'm not bothered about on a non-VGA device anyway. And if you do like the idea of GPS, bluetooth ones are cheap.
Not to say that it doesn't look to be decent, and more device competition is always good for all of us, but unless the (wildly varying) rumoured specs are wrong, it's certainly no all-round Tytn beater.

Yes. It looks fake. Keyboard is open, but devce is still in portrait not landscape! But keys asume landscape mode. Mabe this is a shot of a clay model
Possibly not a fake but not real either. Maybe an earliy mock-up and certaibly not anything nearing release.
Notice the keyboard (not just orientation) but that set of blue lines. They are graphically added - the keys are truncated by the lines and not evenly either, you can barely see the top of the F and yet there's lots of space under the R.
In any case this would be an older generation non-3g device with no video calling.
Actually quite like the styling - more lively than HTCs austere offering.
Mike
Seriously - how can anyone not tell the difference between a drawing and a photo when it's as obvious as that? The number of places I've seen this image this week and instead of debate about the device itself, just a load of "OMG ITS FAKE!!!" comments. No, it's not "fake", it's an illustration. I've seen monsters in Quake 2 that I've thought are more real-looking.
Grrr.
Of course it doesn't help when the person posting it (not the case here) claims that it's a photo!

the information is all valid, trust me.

There's no UMTS/HSDPA... why are we even talking about this thing.
E-ten m700 foto
hi-quality e-ten m700 fotos
Actual photos? Well, that's not bad for a "fake" device. lol
Anyway, specs-wise it looks to be very similar to the Hermes. While it has GPS going for it, there's no 3G, it's bigger, worse UI, and a gimmicky looking keyboard.
Still, for anyone not bothered by those, the GPS could make it a good device for them.
HI
well it lacks 3G which actually if it did have it would set it apart form any device.
about the keyboard, well i dunno mate but to me i think this an original idea, its something more contemporary and concidering we livin in an age of advanced handheld devices there is very limited changes to the look and feel of them which is kinda wierd. this is the metamorphosis... i hope.
reo
I'm sure the keyboard is of good quality, but I find those glowing lines overpower it, and I just see them more than the keys itself, which is very distracting.
MAybe it's different in person though, I certainly hope so. It'd be a shame to ruin an otherwise good keyboard with some gimmicky glowing lines.
No 3G, in my opinion the screen is to small for the casing. There is no way that this could even possibly rival the Hermes in my opinion.
No 3G ? I will pass.

Where are you getting it?
GPS is a great thing, but keep in mind, that it doesn't make a lot of sense without corresponding application. At this time only car navigation applications are available, for which you don't need an integrated GPS receiver. An external one has even advantages in terms of placing it in your car, so it provides better reception.
There are almost no GPS-based location based services for pedestrians available and even if so, accuracy of conventional GPS is mostly too bad in urban canyons. Without A-GPS you have very little use in the city, also because your battery will run empty quickly.
And for hiking or other outdoor activities I will never take my precious TyTN along with me, but use an old-style Magellan receiver.
I would never swap 3G-capabilites for GPS!

I've just been thinking...what is your dream device?
What would HTC (or any PPC Phone manufacturer) have to develop to get you to put your Hermes in your mobile phone collection drawer?
I'd love to know what is your perfect PPC Phone Device! Let's get the perfection specs listed here.
If Apple can get 2 gigs into a Nano why can't HTC get 2gb in a PPC phone?

I agree. At first I though if Cingy released the Hermes like it was supposed to be with the front camera then that would be enough. But actually I could give a rats about the front camera. I think you are right on target.
Why is it that they can't increase the rom to a gig? Is there a technical reason why that is the case?

Use a screen that dosen't suck as much as a lot of other TS-phones do in sunlight/outside. Something that Neonode has used for years now on the N1.

As a lefty I applauded the Hermes thumbwheel placement... For once the tables are turned. Don't change a thing there plz.
Hurrah for Lefties!!!! I enjoy that scroll wheel very much!
Hermes would be greater if....
it had...
a slimmer design,
more internal memory
and a standard headphone jack.
otherwise...
Great phone, especially with kyphers xd-live rom
that all have phun hehehe
They could release this same phone in a second edition or anything else they want to call it and add a few features.
More internal storage memory is a MUST. I cannot think of a single reason for being limited to around 45-60mb when Nokias and SonyEricssons are getting double that at the least.
Internal GPS also needs to be there. I never understood why people would want it until I finally tried it. It is not just about navigation. It gives access to location based information regarding restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and just about any other business you may need and their phone numbers...yeah, plus directions to the location!
A NO CAMERA option and a better camera for those who choose the camera. We don't all want one on the phone since we can't take them certain places...like work. However, those that do want it should have a better camera installed. I do not just mean more megapixels. The camera needs to be sharper, faster, clearer, and more accurate for colors. I don't need 7MP on my phone, but the photos I take with it should be worth showing to people, not just big.
More security options for those of us who don't have access to the Exchange server. Many of us might have a hosted exchange service or none at all but we still want access to all of the security feature that other users enjoy.
...and keep the scroll wheel on the left! Right handed folks get everything else made for them. It is nice to have something for me!
I'll Play, I think the "Kaiser" will be close, slightly thinner Hermes with built-in GPS.
I'm OK with 320x240 as the Hermes is quite good, I have an iPaq hx4700 with a HUGE 640x480 screen with excellent outdoor readability so who wouldn't love a ultra crisp display.
I have always wondered why the heck these companies won't give us a couple of GIG extra storage. I'd also prefer mini SD so we could use a cheaper and I think more common 8GB SDHC card.
Thumb wheel. Well I've played with a friend's Blackberry and it is better on the right (for us right handers).
Can't wait to see the Kaiser, one step closer to the perfect "all-in-one"
Hmm, let me see (in order of preference)
Built in DAB digital radio
GPS
Built in FM/AM radio
A screen the same size as my Hermes but with higher resolution.
Better camera (maybe 3mp but also better quality metering and focusing)
Mini SD slot or large (6gb) int memory
3.5mm headphone socket
Better quality loudspeaker
Better layout of buttons on front of device (I have a SPV M3100)
Once the qwerty slide is out, it would be nice to be able to tilt the screen towards you.
An clip-on external wifi ariel to boost signal as standard in the box
Also just imagine the processing power and RAM of even a cheep laptop in a PPC. You could attach an auxiliary 9" screen, mini keyboard and run a version of windows far closer to the desktop OS (if not the same). I could even get some web design done on the move then without a laptop.
lol, probably got a bit carried away there, but then again when the Nokia 8210 was the mutts nuts 5-6 years ago who would of thought that the Hermes would have been possible!

Built-in printer/scanner No, seriously, a thought reader.
Form factor is ok, but it would be nice if the screen could be tilted slightly. On the hardware side, I would like to see:
USB host, standard audio jack, GPS would be nice, better design (slimmer and better looking), video out (don't care vga/cinch/...), video in, 640x480 display, ...
My main issues are with the software, before any other hardware, I would like the software to provide more features:
BT PAN, WPA2, better IMAP support, stability (sometimes my startbutton just disappears, sometimes the device just hangs, ...), printerdrivers, ...
Oh, BTW, a printer is not so far fetched: the technology is here.

I thought it was so strange that when I scanned for bluetooth devices I picked up my (pc) internet modem (which is wireless enabled) so I thought bluetooth and wifi must share a lot of the same characteristics.
I was browsing for the latest Android developments and stumbled on the following
Please take a look at this page http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12000&contentId=4679
And this one http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbugencontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12019&contentId=4635&DCMP=WTBU&HQS=Other+OT+bluetooth
This seems to mean that FM Radio and WiFi is a standard feature of OMAP 850 chips and (for the touch owners look at this page http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbugencontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12028&contentId=4636&DCMP=WTBU&HQS=Other+OT+agps)
Seems If you have Bluetooth you also have wifi and possibly fm radio built in only lacking the drivers (no special wifi antenna is used in the omap 850 solution accoriding to TI)
It would seem that all we need is the right drivers and regsettings (so no new rom or radio rom should be needed)
Who can make it a working cab?
Woooooooooo!
Good news.
great job
if some solution, make me to buy one.
by the soft solution, strange story !no idea for none cost effective option. why do HTC designers make a 2008 PDA with no WiFi Option!
wow
wow...it might be dream come ture if it happens....please some body develop a driver for pharos Fm radio n wifi.....please buit up some regsettings......
This is a good information. Hope that we could make it work on our Pharos.
Good News... I hope who will make it soon because I don't understand about ARM work.
That is an awesome find man. I hope this info is used to get a wifi working ROM.
I thought it was some kind of cost saving to not include wifi, i.e. some missing hardware. If it's just a driver, that is the so friggen stupid! Why have such a great phone and then neuter it by taking away wifi? And the price is still just as high as the Artemis when it came out. The lack of wifi is the only thing that would keep me from buying one. Otherwise, it would be a great upgrade phone for me since I don't need nor have 3G with my service and and it has the cool flush screen that I wish my Artemis had.
someone knows if the touch dual then also could have the wifi option turned on by drivers? the touch normal has wifi, so i guess it should be possible.
anyone tried the drivers from the htc wizard? it also has a ti omap 850, so driver from such a rom could be coocked into the rom of other devices.
@VOODOOS!L
The touch dual uses the Qualcomm 7200 chipset. That chipset uses the arm926tesj as a co processor but i dont think its the full OMAP 850 chiset.
but there is a project for enabling niki wifi (started out as a project ot enabkle both wifi and gps)
@shawndh
Phone manufacterors do it all the time. Look at the Kaiser story, yes they have some great graphical chip (would be too expensive to make a different chiset with another graphical chip) so they just didnt include the drivers for it.
With some other phones like the touch HTC disabled the wifi in the radio rom... maybe some techies here could try to put an artemis radio rom in the pharos... but for none techies this would probably be an instant brick (thats why i didnt try it) tom_codon maybe you could say something about this....input would be apreciated.
Come to think of it, I remember that they had a crippled GPS radio or something in the TyTn I. The only reason I could think of for disabling wifi is so people who need wifi would buy the the Artemis. To be honest, if I had a choice btwn the two, I would get the Pharos over the Artemis if they both had wifi. Even so, it should still have wifi.
This ia a good news.
I'm waiting.
you know what... im giving up.
ive tried pm ing some guys working on the wifi on nike project, asking tomcodon. no response as yet and prolly not going to get one.
And tried to get qtopia and winlizard(gizard) working.
but in the linux world up is down, left is right, and smart is stupid. those people are (in dutch: contactgestoord) communicationally challenged. you cant find anything on their sites. there is no(or very little) documentation on how stuff works ...noone explains anything... so in order to learn linux you have to know it.
thats why m$ can afford to be so sucky: their competition sucks so much more
i said to the guys at irc #linzwizard hey thnx for the build, i can boot it too (gizard aka linwizard 0.3.0) but the touchscreen driver crashes.
he then said make a support request at sourceforge which i did (btw it isnt obvious how to .. it should be very simple. but hey... thats the linux way, isnt it) response was.. and this is a shocker.. your touchscreen driver doesnt work(.... grrreeeaat) you should disable it...(no description on how)
up for the rom with wifi for the pharos!
Thanks
Not to rain on anyone parade but from the first page from TI, it looks like to get wifi support you have to have a special chip in the phone(upper left corner) thats diferent that the chip to get wifi, so unless someone knows for sure that the WiLink chips are present, I think we are without wifi
Wait and see...
The only problem is... How long does it take to finalize such a ROM?
If it takes 1 yr, for example, I think I will have already changed to at least TouchHD..
Anyway, good news!
Hello! I have a HTC Pharos for one month. Yesterday, i accidentally have wetted phone by tea, and then i disassembled it for cleaning. Cleaning was finish sucсessfully, now phone is working
During disassembly of the device I have made some pictures. I think Wlan module is in the device. Look at the photo! Motherboard have many connectors for external antennas, and Wlan connector is on the board!
http://www.flash-remont.narod.ru/pharos/pharos.jpg
thank you for the picture, its in a good resolution! but what would have made it more clear is if you would have looked for a specific Texas instruments chip with letter combinaton BRF or BL (there are 4 chips mentioned with a dual solution BL6450 BRF 6350 BRF6300 and BRF6150 last one is not good because its a bluetooth only chip) we should also be looking for TI chips with a WL designation and number 1271 1273 1251 1253
at least (BRF6300) - Bluetooth specification v2.0 + EDR single chip should be in the Pharos since we have that bluetooth spec.
in the picture i can make out the TWL3027 chip with extra designation BZQW (at least i think its that chip ... according to the ti site that would be the baseband chip but it doesnt describe on the site what the extra letters mean)http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12311&contentId=4706

If you take a look at it, it comes from the 3470 (or rather, the P660). I think that they have removed the CPU and replaced it with a faster one.
Those pictures are a P660/P3470, there can be no question.
its a dopod htc for the chinese and japanese (east asian) market
http://dopod.com/pc/product/p660_1.php

I realize that the Dopod 660 is the same as the P3470, and it has the same Specs.
But the Ebay add specifically said that they had upgraded the OMAP to a different CPU, and that WiFi was enabled. I asked the seller about this.
what did the seller say about it?

He said it was "OEM" and that the CPU was indeed fast (presumably no longer the OMAP850), and that WiFi was present. I wasn't interested in buying one, so I didn't ask about the language (English, I guess, the auction was in AU $), warranty, etc.
very strange, so they changed the cpu,.. and the motherboard presumably...so then its a different phone

I think they just swapped out the CPU and added drivers for the WiFi. The external form factor and the other specifications are identical to the P660 / P3470.
Either they licensed the design from HTC, or they "borrowed" it. Or maybe HTC is building them for another company - HTC often does that, although it is usually common knowledge when this happens.
euhm they would also have to put in a wifi chip... that is unless ours is disabled... i would love to get a copy of that rom!!

There is a whole thread about enabling WiFi on the HTC Pharos; evidently the OMAP 850 has WiFi built in, but HTC chose not to support WiFi. They have had no luck enabling it in the Pharos. I suspect there is a hardware issue, i.e., there is no connection from the OMAP to an antenna.

hehehe i know i started that thread... we didnt succeed in identifying a couple of chips.. so we dont know if there is an actual antenna connection... and we have confirmed that Pharos does not have a bluetooth/wifi in one chip
so if the coolp660 has wifi and ONLY the processor is changed... that would be very significant! then our pharos is "wifi ready" just needs to be enabled!

The items are no longer for auction on ebay (the auctions ended, and no more are listed). I'm not entirely sure it wasn't a scam anyway; the item was from Hong Kong, but the listing was in AU $. It seemed funny to me, not to mention that the device was obviously a P3470 case and specification - except for the CPU and WiFi.
This is an awsome Phone!!!!!!
Well for a noob like myself I think it is. This phone is also considered a V990.
It has Windows Mobile 6 Pro / CE os 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2). with a PXA310 @ 624MHZ, 256/128. It's also VERY affordable. I have no clue as to what the OS is compatable to OEM, Cooked, or other OS could replace it. any info on this would be greatly appreciated by far. Thanks in advanced for any info and I hope this phone does alot better than the DAXIAN X999+
of course
yes it has WIFI too
if it does have the PXA processor then its a significantly different phone than the p3470...so much for getting that rom ...
so i've got this phone, it says it has 624mhz cpu and wifi is working
if you want it's rom, pictures or screenshots - just tell me how to do it
