[Q] [Solved] CM7 + Kindle Fire = no 802.11n? - Kindle Fire General

Hey everyone!
I have installed CM7 onto my KF, which I am loving btw, as directed by whistlestop over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390773, but I notice that my KF cannot find my 802.11N network. However, my 802.11G network is working w/o any problems.
I have searched that thread and the entire xda forums and could not find anyone commenting on CM7, KF and 802.11N. I am just wondering if the feature has even been added yet to the build or if I have a problem.
Much thanks for any info!

Has no one have any observations on this? I see the thread has gotten nearly 100 views, but no one is even able to confirm/repute my observations?

and your using CM7 on your KF? Can you tell me what band 2.4GHz, 5GHz or both you are using? Are you using a static channel or is it set to auto?
I ask because I had to set my 5GHz channel to a static channel for my Galaxy Nexus to see my N network. I am also using dd-wrt for my router firmware.
Thanks for the response!

there is a post from a dev that says 5ghz is not possible because the chipset is'nt capable of that - only 2.4ghz

Ya, mine was able to connect to my N network when it was running stock, but not since moving to CM7. In CM7, it doesn't even see the network.

Thanks for the heads up! I also found a page on wlanbook.com after you mentioned it. I would post the URL, but not allowed yet.
As for seeing N network on stock, I realize I previously had my N network SSID extended to the 2.4GHz band as well as the 5GHz band, which I do not anymore.
Thanks again!

glad to help ...

[Q] WPA2 compliant

Hi, I am looking to get the Aria for the wife, but I saw a post (unable to now find) that claimed it did not support WPA2/AES, I have checked on the HTC site and the manuals, I have searched on here and google and no clear indicators.
Can anyone confirm or revoke this for me?
Cheers

Mine works fine with WPA2/AES on my network. However, I've had more than one new Laptop recently that wouldn't connect, and from my experience, WPA2/AES can be a bit hit or miss based on the compatibility of the hardware/firmware of the router and connecting device.

Here using WPA2/AES with my Aria with no problem (with stock, FR008 Liberated and CM7 ROMs)
And I guess some laptops may have problems with it, as WinXP needs an update to work with WPA2 if I'm not wrong.

Can't connect my tethered wifi to nexus 10

Hey there
I have a nokia e6, and i tethered my connection using joku spot-But the wifi doesn't show up on the nexus 10, my ipod and my laptop are able to detect it.
Please tell me whats wrong?
Sorry for creating threads again and again
I've had this happen on quite a few tethering apps on my Galaxy Prevail and my Nexus 10. I think it has to do with Ad-Hoc vs Infrastructure, with Ad-Hoc networks not being visible (which quite a few tethering apps use). I could be wrong though.
I use joku spot premium
Any one please
Please any one can help me

[Q] 5Ghz WiFi, Galaxy Tab 2 7"? (GT-P3113)

I've been scouring shopping sites and odd forums, and for the life of me it's proving difficult to find a newer-ish (relatively inexpensive) tablet that has 5Ghz support.
So far, the only tablet I've actually come up with is this one (GT-P3113), but I've been unable to find if anyone can confirm the 5Ghz radio working. I saw one forum thread that mentioned issues with higher 5Ghz channels, and it's got me worried. Has anyone had any experience on this? Stock ROM? CM?
Thanks in advance.
B G N only no 5ghz
Are you certain? Quite a few places (and forums) suggest that model has a 5Ghz radio

Are you running stock ROM?? From what I've read the 5ghz radio can be enabled with root, but I'm curious to see if it works in CM or not.

From what I've read 5Ghz wasn't enabled from ICS on. Something to do with the availability of 5Ghz in Europe. I've seen several guides on how to enable it on ICS at least, but I can't test it since I don't have a 5Ghz router. Here are the two guides I've seen on it. I'm almost sure you'd have to be rooted to do either.

I'd probably go for CM10(.1) straight away, which is why I wondered on if it's enabled in there. Luckily for me, CM is opensource so I can just go look and see if it's enabled in those files lol.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

awesome! Did you have to do anything post-root to get it working? IE did you switch from stock rom, or did you need to modify any wifi-config files?

Yes ,lucky its open source except for the proprietary bits that you need from hardware vendors like the wifi and GPU drivers and several others , just like the open source Samsung stock ROMs.

I believe you are right in that the Kindle Fire HD has a 5GHz radio, but I'm looking for a more pure Android experience, google play and what not. I know there are methods to getting Play Store on the Fire HD, but more specifically I'm looking to go CM with the tablet, and I'd rather run the Samsung for that if it has a working 5GHz radio.
Question
Nevermind. My noobness is showing

hey guys,
i have been baffled by this too when my gt-p6800 upgraded to jb, it lost the capability to access my 5GHz-N wifi. i tried going back to ics and i had access back to the 5GHz wifi. however, ics have had its problems (wifi disconnects when the tab goes to sleep) and eventually i went back to the jb: no 5GHz wifi but wifi is stable and doesn't disconnect.
earlier today, a friend of mine with p3100 on jb visited me at home. his tablet wasn't able to detect my 5GHz wifi too.
interestingly, my very old p1000 on gb can still access the 5GHz wifi.
is it now safe to say that tablets with jb have problems detecting and accessing the 5GHz network?
regards to all!

Router suggestions for N4

Greetings,
I'm planning to purchase a router for my office and I'd like to use it for my N4 via WiFi.
What specs should I be looking at?
Is there something I should consider (bands, frecuencies, etc.)?
My connection is not that fast, only 1.5MB.
Please share your experiences. It'd be truly appreciated.
For the best speed it should be N and 5GHz.

Wireless routers have different standards that they go by. As of right now for consumer use, there are B, G and N. B & G have been around for quite some time and N has had some time to develop to the point where its the fastest standard available currently.
So basically, you want to see if the router you are purchasing supports the wireless N standard. Chances are if the router supports N it will support B and G as well...

That is for 300 mbps, there is a section for 150 mbps. My guess for the difference is obviously the speed, but that difference in speed will most likely affect the price as well.

I'll contact a few stores here. Thanks again for all your help.
By the way, the person that replied first recommended 5Ghz but most of the TP-Link options I've seen in that page you linked show 2.4-2.4835Ghz. Would that be enough in your opinion?

The frequency is to circumvent interference. For example, a lot of home phones operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency, which is probably why the first guy who posted recommended 5GHz, so you could have a dedicated frequency for Wi-Fi. If you can get your hands on a 5 GHz router, then go for it, but if not a 2.4 GHz router shouldn't be a problem...

[Q] Constant Wifi drops at my wits end

Hello everyone first time joining xda; I have used the site a few times and I love it. I also created an account because of the wonderful community anyways; I seem to be having this really frustrating problem with my Verizon LG G2. I picked up the phone on black Friday and its been absolutely wonderful except for one issue, my WiFi drops signal constantly and I mean almost every 3-15 minutes but the catch is that I have used WiFi at my friends and by that I mean more than a one or two works great at theirs and not mine but at my house and it doesn't and I think this might be a router issue. But I have spent many hours trying to figure out what might be wrong it it helps my router is: Netgear model WNDR3700. I've tried just about everything and would like some smarter help. Thank you for reading!
Shameless self bump

Having same issue but not as often.
If I use my htc sensation with vipers it's even worse. Even causing my router to reboot.
Se if u can extract logs from your router.

Maybe screenshot those and post them on here? Lol
My suggestion is to just get a new router. They're only 30 bucks if you get em used (I mean, NICE ones). I am somewhat router-savvy and I would recommend the D-Link DIR-655 as a replacement. It has OS-independent printer/HDD sharing, website URL blocking (great for blocking ads), time restrictions, logging, wireless N & good range... if you're lucky you'll find one in great condition for about $39 last I checked. Once I got one for $20 off ebay and it had some issues.. so don't do that I guess.
I know my suggestion doesn't directly answer your question but it will directly solve your problem. Hope this helps,

Also, another dummy fix is checking which wireless standards you have selected. Surprisingly a lot of android phones are not compatible with independent Wireless-N, make sure you have set up a,b,g,n or b,g,n or even try straight g or straight b if those don't work. On top of that, try changing the wireless frequencies, that is very likely to be your problem.
