[Q] 5Ghz WiFi, Galaxy Tab 2 7"? (GT-P3113) - Galaxy Tab 2 General

I've been scouring shopping sites and odd forums, and for the life of me it's proving difficult to find a newer-ish (relatively inexpensive) tablet that has 5Ghz support.
So far, the only tablet I've actually come up with is this one (GT-P3113), but I've been unable to find if anyone can confirm the 5Ghz radio working. I saw one forum thread that mentioned issues with higher 5Ghz channels, and it's got me worried. Has anyone had any experience on this? Stock ROM? CM?
Thanks in advance.

B G N only no 5ghz

Are you certain? Quite a few places (and forums) suggest that model has a 5Ghz radio
To list a couple..

I will say this; I have that tab P3113 and a 5ghz network. My tablet does not see the 5ghz ap, just the 2.4ghz one.

Are you running stock ROM?? From what I've read the 5ghz radio can be enabled with root, but I'm curious to see if it works in CM or not.

From what I've read 5Ghz wasn't enabled from ICS on. Something to do with the availability of 5Ghz in Europe. I've seen several guides on how to enable it on ICS at least, but I can't test it since I don't have a 5Ghz router. Here are the two guides I've seen on it. I'm almost sure you'd have to be rooted to do either.

I'd probably go for CM10(.1) straight away, which is why I wondered on if it's enabled in there. Luckily for me, CM is opensource so I can just go look and see if it's enabled in those files lol.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

awesome! Did you have to do anything post-root to get it working? IE did you switch from stock rom, or did you need to modify any wifi-config files?

I thought I read the kindle foire hd supports 5 ghz but only when 2.4 was not present is it possible t huh is is the same issue?

Yes ,lucky its open source except for the proprietary bits that you need from hardware vendors like the wifi and GPU drivers and several others , just like the open source Samsung stock ROMs.

Neither of these work to enable 5 GHz on my GT-P5113.
unrevoked, If you have it working on your 3113, what did you have to change to enable 5 GHz?

I believe you are right in that the Kindle Fire HD has a 5GHz radio, but I'm looking for a more pure Android experience, google play and what not. I know there are methods to getting Play Store on the Fire HD, but more specifically I'm looking to go CM with the tablet, and I'd rather run the Samsung for that if it has a working 5GHz radio.

Question
Nevermind. My noobness is showing

hey guys,
i have been baffled by this too when my gt-p6800 upgraded to jb, it lost the capability to access my 5GHz-N wifi. i tried going back to ics and i had access back to the 5GHz wifi. however, ics have had its problems (wifi disconnects when the tab goes to sleep) and eventually i went back to the jb: no 5GHz wifi but wifi is stable and doesn't disconnect.
earlier today, a friend of mine with p3100 on jb visited me at home. his tablet wasn't able to detect my 5GHz wifi too.
interestingly, my very old p1000 on gb can still access the 5GHz wifi.
is it now safe to say that tablets with jb have problems detecting and accessing the 5GHz network?
regards to all!

Wireless N for Evo. *SOLVED*

Will there ever be wireless n for the Evo, I understand that the chipset might have been built on g but how was someone able to get it working on a nexus one? Would the broadcom company have to release a driver; I heard a rumor that our wifi driver COULD support N but that was just something I heard. And Lastly, Isn't wireless n the standard now why is this not common in phones yet lol. Not only does the wifi on the Evo stink, its not even wireless n and it stinks
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
UPDATE: i was mistaken about the n, it does have N just not 5ghz. I found this on the netgear website. Stupid Routers.
It has some wireless n. I've seen it on my airport extreme at 78 MB/s so that's N for sure. But it only does the 2.4 Ghz not the 5 Ghz.

Pretty sure wireless N was enabled with one of the earlier OTAs. Mine is definitely connecting with N and works fine... I'm running Calk's EViO rom with netarchy kernel.

This was my impression, as well.
Really guys? Hmmm I've never been able to get it to find my ssid on my wireless n netgear and everything else picks it up fine. I guess I was wrong then and very mistaken. I was really under the impression that the evo didn't have wireless n *scratches head* . I think my router is set on n and a mixed. I tried to change it but my Evo has never been able to find it. I've been all over netgears site and nothing. Just odd that my Evo is the only thing that doesn't see it. I tried on sense and aosp.

i tried man nothing, the section where you can change it from 5ghz is like grayed out. i have 2 n routers they act as an access point and bride, or you can use them as single n routers, my xbox and laptop pick them up but maybe that plays a part with the 5ghz. I guess when ur wrong ur wrong; maybe my routers of 5ghz only and thats why my evo cant see it. Might be time for a new router then; heres a screenshot of my access page it wont even let me remove 5ghz lol stupid netgear.
You gotta change where it says N only. It should be mixed or g and n mixed. Then it will give you a option to use 2.4 Ghz.

I have a netgear dual band router (2.4 & 5Ghz) after much searching and messing around in the router settings I've accepted defeat on connecting to the 5ghz band with the EVO. :'( Plus I really dont see any added benefit anyway considering im already browsing and streaming on my phone without any problems.

Those are 5ghz only. I have them as well. Evo can only use the 2.4ghz band. Which you've rightly figured out.
You could always set your router to broadcast 2.4 N is its capable like mine is. Then use those as a bridge/ap combo. That's how I have mine done.
Wow. A 5 Ghz band only router.

I dunno. I don't have any problems aside from wireless taking a little while longer than I like to connect to my router which fools my juice defender into thinking there isn't any wireless then disabling it to save battery.
When it's connected though its plenty fast.

[Q] [Solved] CM7 + Kindle Fire = no 802.11n?

Hey everyone!
I have installed CM7 onto my KF, which I am loving btw, as directed by whistlestop over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390773, but I notice that my KF cannot find my 802.11N network. However, my 802.11G network is working w/o any problems.
I have searched that thread and the entire xda forums and could not find anyone commenting on CM7, KF and 802.11N. I am just wondering if the feature has even been added yet to the build or if I have a problem.
Much thanks for any info!
Has no one have any observations on this? I see the thread has gotten nearly 100 views, but no one is even able to confirm/repute my observations?

and your using CM7 on your KF? Can you tell me what band 2.4GHz, 5GHz or both you are using? Are you using a static channel or is it set to auto?
I ask because I had to set my 5GHz channel to a static channel for my Galaxy Nexus to see my N network. I am also using dd-wrt for my router firmware.
Thanks for the response!

So... Miracast and the Nexus 7?

Please tell me the N7 4.2 update will bring miracast. Because I cannot explain to you guys how exciting that would be XD
Also...anyone know where to buy one of those adapters?
I know you are excited... we all are.
Where to start? Ok first off don't buy any adapters for anything yet. Read this and get a little depressed, first (but less depressed than if you wasted money on an adapter that isn't compatible with your device).
http://www.slashgear.com/miracast-accessories-dont-jump-in-head-first-just-yet-06255843/
Now let's make you feel a little better. Hardware wise, yes Nexus 7(which has Tegra 3 chips) should be fine with Miracast.
http://blogs.nvidia.com/2012/07/tegra-enhances-miracast-wireless-display-on-hdtvs/
Although we don't really know if the bandwith of the wireless card will allow for streaming content from the interwebs to your TV, what the quality will be for a 2.4 Ghz wireless card or if Google will natively support it for the N7 (even though 4.2 is supposed to)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896605
Time will tell. For now, just sit back and watch the posts to see the early adopters complain or rejoyce. As it is we really haven't even seen Miracast in action in the real world, just very controlled demos intended to get us all excited (please correct me if you have a real world video).
Also interested in knowing how well this will work. Please report successes/failures here. I am looking to switch from my T-Mobile Springboard to N73G but I'll miss the HDMI.
The update is here for many people so it is time to settle this once and for all.
I know some of you that have already updated have a netgear 3000 ready to go so...what is the verdict?Does it work or not?

Thanks.... IT SUCKS! ....but thanks anyway
I mean...hey guys
The google native support was always an iffy thing. It sucks but I'm sure we'll see some custom rom love in the upcoming weeks/months (hours? I love you guys... You are doing God's work). There doesn't seems to be a lot of options for Miracast from the pull side (unless you want to go buy a new TV just to support your $200-$300 tablet) So it's not like there is a huge rush to get the push side working right away. The bigger question is the persormance we'll see. But to be honest the fact that google nixed it from the start seems to suggest we may be disappointed with that too.
So I bought the Netgear ptv3000 updated my N7 hooked it up to my TV connected to it through WIFI-Direct and nothing. Screen on my TV says it's "ready to connect". It connects via wifi-direct according to my tablet but not the 3000 isn't showing it.
Nexus 7 will support Miracast needs to be on 4.2 and set op boxes may need to be updated, but overall, wait o buy, here what people say about them. I am waiting for the update to be pushed to me over the air because I am to lazy to dit manually right now, but it should be to all of us in at most 3-4 days. It may be a setting inside apps. Although, from the man websites I have been to, they have all been saying that it will get Miracast. I would post some but I have just lost track of all of the websites.

For the moment, it just doesn't seem to be an option as Google hasn't included it in the 4.2 build. I tried to connect up my 3000 with the Wi-Fi direct option, but it doesn't do anything- I suspect it won't work without the option in the display menu.
After the late availability emails today on 4/10 releases to the store, Google is not on my nice list at the moment.

Upgraded Nexus 7 to 4.2, bought a Netgear PTV3000 and tested.
First of all, couldn't find any Miracast related settings in N7/4.2.
Was able to see the adapter, changing its mode from Intel WiDi to Miracast mode and enabling Wi-Fi Direct option in Wi-Fi settings on N7/4.2. I can invite the adapter, but nothing happens on the other side.
Wi-Fi Direct option was already available in 4.1.2 and I understand its purpose is to transfer files only.
Any input or suggestion?

Router suggestions for N4

Greetings,
I'm planning to purchase a router for my office and I'd like to use it for my N4 via WiFi.
What specs should I be looking at?
Is there something I should consider (bands, frecuencies, etc.)?
My connection is not that fast, only 1.5MB.
Please share your experiences. It'd be truly appreciated.
For the best speed it should be N and 5GHz.

Wireless routers have different standards that they go by. As of right now for consumer use, there are B, G and N. B & G have been around for quite some time and N has had some time to develop to the point where its the fastest standard available currently.
So basically, you want to see if the router you are purchasing supports the wireless N standard. Chances are if the router supports N it will support B and G as well...

The frequency is to circumvent interference. For example, a lot of home phones operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency, which is probably why the first guy who posted recommended 5GHz, so you could have a dedicated frequency for Wi-Fi. If you can get your hands on a 5 GHz router, then go for it, but if not a 2.4 GHz router shouldn't be a problem...

UK 4.2.2 firmware N5110XXCMH3 is showing up on sammobile.com
Will this version work on the US version?

i checked couple of people on my google+ Note 8 community in UK, they said it looks like they fixed S-Pen issue. A few reported that S-Note and Alarm is acting up, but wiping system cache and dalvik seems like doing the trick.

yeah...I am actually planning to install UK version if Samsung delays US version for some stupid reason. I have one more person told me UK version works just fine installing US model wifi tablet...so thank you for confirming for us, more people try, the better we will feel if we go with UK version
Does the multiscreen function work?
Anyone know if its possible to update via kies, or other ways without root and without wiping the data on the device, regaldress the region
Uhh, yea. The UK update flashed through Odin is a no-wipe update. Did it yesterday and zero problems. Actually seems smoother to me.

Did you flash the kernel as well? I thought that was usually included in a ROM but it shows as a separate download.

like jazzespresso posted earlier, I don't really see an issue with the s-pen. On the other hand, the periodic screen freeze has been fixed. That was bugging the crap out of me before.

Which is exactly what prompted me to flash the UK version. If the US version offers anything new and worthwhile, I will Odin that at a later date.

No screen freeze is great, don't notice any problems with the s-pen, and love that apps to SD is included in the applications manager. I was able to recover almost 1gb of internal memory.

One more question:
is the multi user option enabled by default?
Thanks again

I can't find the option on mine so I assumed Samsung had removed the option for some reason.
Also seemingly missing is the swipe to camera from the lock screen, which I had wanted.
I wondered about using another ROM instead but guess I would then lose some of the S-Pen ability and dedicated apps?
I flashed this via Mobile Odin, but I lost my 5 Ghz! How can I get it back?

Well, I seem to have solved it, I found this post-

I had the same problem with 5GHz, solved by setting up router at channel 36 on the 5 GHz band. (Router came from factory in auto mode then I change it to channel 36)" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45374467&highlight=5ghz#post45374467
I changed the 5Ghz channel on my router (Netgear R6300) to 48, and it found the 5 Ghz right away. Well, problem solved anyway Is there a difference in the UK version? I am trying to figure out why it won't see Channels 149, 153, 157 and 161, it did before.
One other thing, when I switched the R6300 to Channel 48 the router gave me a popup about the best wireless performance being with Channels 149, 153, 157 and 161, I am assuming it says that due to the possibility of more congestion, though being rural that's not an issue, and 5 Ghz seems to be fine on Channel 48.

they did not remove it, they just, for some strange reason, not enabled it - don't even ask me why. However, check Civ's custom ROM (based on UK Firmware), look at his post: [ROM][4.2.2][N5110-MH3][N5100-MH2] CivZ-FLEX-BEAM-REV3.0 + SphereEngine [18/sep/2013]
he did enabled it...
unless multi-users option is critical to you, I would recommend to flash Civ's ROM.
