Hi all... I have a vibrant w/ a broken lcd/digitizer. This means that the screen won't turn on whatsoever. How can I tell if that is the only thing wrong with it? In other words, how do I know that if I fix that, it will work again? Is there anyway to check circuit board current or something to see if its working?
I was wondering if the operating system should still be working even if the LCD/digitizer is not working... I ask this because I tried to put it in download mode and hook it up to ODIN, but ODIN didn't recognize it. This leads me to think that there may be another problem too and maybe I shouldn't waste my time. Thanks!
If usb debugging is enabled, turn the phone on and do adb logcat.. Should show the bootup process.

Try and turn the phone on normally, plug it into the pc and see if anything appears in device manager.. if not, no good.
The phone should boot up normally without LCD. It should play sound. The buttons should light up. It should ring with simcard inside. It should charge battery.
Put motherboard inside different vibrant.

Is it possible to successfully harvest a working screen from a different phone or would the screen most break in the process?

A 1500W hair dryer on high will do it. Heat it for 6 to 10 minutes moving around the edges. When you remove it do it from the top first and don't separate completely at the bottom until you remove the soft button ribbon. It's fragile and will break if rushed.
Unfortunately I think the whole phone is gone... My computer doesn't recognize it, and i get nothing when trying to turn it on... Completely dead. I bought it used to try and fix... Oh well. Guess the motherboard is bad too. :-(

Maybe it's battery? Dead battery might not turn the phone on eventhough you have charger plugged

My touchscreen becomes unresponsive after holding down the power button to get to the Phone Options where the Silent mode, Airplane mode, Choose Profile, Screenshot, Reboot , and Power Off options are located. The touch screen becomes unresponsive, I have to power off the screen for a few seconds and turn it back on and the touch screen will work again. It just started doing this 2 weeks ago. I have tried different roms and no difference. I have performed task 29 no difference, even after fresh installation of roms with no other apps installed
Im suspecting a worn digitizer but not sure because it only does it after phone opentions menu is opened, other than that the touchscreen works fine. Than again not sure if its a rom issue because it does it with different roms even older ones i never had problems before. I just know how to flash roms and basic stuff and not that far advanced
By the way I have the latest MGLDR, and recovery, have performed task 29 and even tried it with the SD card out and same result

Sure he meant this, in order to make sense!
Solution: another touchscreen/digitizer or even better(but more expensive) new combo(lcd+touchscreen/digitizer)!
I have noticed that after it boots it will let me select an option from the the phone option menu but only when it is fresh of a boot, once the phone settles after a minute or two it's when the problem starts
For the meantime I'm using Quick Boot app from the market since that is the only thing it affects. I will check for prices to replace digitizer. I have seen the digitizers alone on Ebay going got around 10 bucks but I'm scared of the installation lol. I'm going to check the phone repair shop and check how they charge. If it's too much I'll just live with it since the Quick Boot app is working fine.

Well took it to a local repair shop and guy told me the wires looked good and said maybe the motherboard was going out, well if it is guess I'll use my wife's Samsung Vibrant which I must say has never had any problems with, until its time for a contract renewal for me

I highly doubt the board is bad. I already took mine apart, a collection of dust and dirt causes the end button to mess up the contacts. Your board is probably fine if you aren't experiencing overheating or any other symptoms, no offence, he probably just wanted more work to do so they could charge you more. I've done some computer repairs for family and friends and it's ridiculous the bull that repair stores throw at you

I'm not experiencing overheating issues, the guy didn't charge and said he didn't have another motherboard to swap out with and test. He didn't charge me anything at least. I know its ridiculous how much they charge sometimes but its out of warranty so I don't have much choice and I'm scared to take it apart and damage something else but I have no other choice now lol. Did you look at a video before you took your apart?
Also was your phone doing the exact same thing? It does make sense it could be a dirty contact, I work ata Chevy dealer and bad contacts sometimes do weird things but sometimes at the lock screen the touch screen won't work also and I have to turn of t the screen for it to work

Yes exactly the same thing like 100 percent exactly. And yes I did the hardest part is getting the device out of the case lol the rest is quite simple.

Lol thanks I meant after I take the cover off, I was able to take the plastic buttons of but I didn't see much dust, I **** a little compressed air but that's all, how did you clean up the actual buttons?
Well I put it back together after blew the buttons but for a little while the touchscreen was not working at all, I rebooted a few times and it started working but same problem
Just wanted to know how you cleaned the buttons if I'm missing something. I really want to fix it because I don't to use my wife HD2, I'll never hear the end of it from her because I always tell her phone is better lol

Lol. what cover are you talking about? i just followed the one video and blew compressed air through ever little nook and crany. It didnt fix it completely as im not too worried about it since my digitizer is shattered. So i'll be more worried about it once i get a new digitizer. But just follow one of the videos on youtube, they take the thing apart all the way down to individual parts.
Hey use attached apk, and remap one of your other buttons to function as the power button. I have mine set to the green button since i dont use it anyhow. That way the endkey doesnt get used so much. It works perfectly. once i get a new display im gonna rig a way to keep this from happening again.

thanks but now my touchscreen does not work at all now. Maybe it was just the digitizer going bad in my phone. I'm using a Samsung Vibrant which in my opinion sucks, I just got it rooted, now I need install CM7, I miss my HD2 so much. I think I'm just going to order a digitizer from Ebay and try to install myself
damn the HD2 phone owners have so many rom choices compared to this vibrant

Ha, have you tried rebooting the HD2? If i hit the end key, it stops working completely, but after a reboot it works again. So far it hasnt stopped working since i remapped the green key to be power key. And yeah i had to use my Touch Pro 2 until i finally got an HD2. I cant wait to get a job and get an SGS2 though. Thats an amazing phone.

My vibrant gave up the ghost 2 days ago. Turned itself off and now it won't fully boot without turning itself off unless I leave it undisturbed on a table.
Something on/under the ringer/speaker is loose or corroded, because tapping on that part of the phone makes it cut itself off.
Been using a Galaxy Tab as my phone for the past day and a half. Galaxy Nexus should arrive at home this afternoon.
Goodbye vibrant and Bionix. I would have liked to keep you as a media player, but I guess it is not to ever be. You worked well... except for your wonky GPS and tendency to 'forget' custom ring tones for contacts.... and your shrinking battery life (I have 4 spare batteries).... and taking 2 minutes to read the SD cards during boot up.... but you sure had a nice screen.
You could still use it as a media player. Odin it back to stock then flash a rom. There's one that's design just for that.
You said when you tap it on the side it cuts its self, do you mean it shuts down?

When I tap it on the back surface of the phone, close to the top (basically where the ringer/speaker-phone is) then it shuts itself off (power goes off)
Other things can cause it to shut off, but that seems to be the problem area.
you may can fix it
well, if you have a soldering iron and a oven proceed, if not but you want to fix it go and buy one.
**Do it only as last resource and if you dont have an soldering station.**
take out the board of you vibrant, solder a small piece of any wire you have on an insignificant par of the board (like the gold border around it) put the board in the oven nearly at 200ºC and wait a bit of time till the solder you have done got liquid an the wire goes down.Turn off the oven and let the door open in order to cool ,wait till it got fresh enough to test.
Be happy!
Obs.:the board will get damage if you let it got more hot than necessary.

No. Phone insurance is mostly a rip off unless you lose it in the first ~4 months of ownership.
It was worth a shot.
I have it on mine, but I wonder what they would replace it with on a claim if I was to break it since they stopped selling the vibrant quite a while ago.

I had some rain droplets get into my phone which got it wet on the inside of course.. I did the whole rice thing, took it apart, bathed the motherboard in isopropyl alcohol.. basically for about three weeks I let it dry and cleaned it..
Last night I put it back together, connected to power, and let it sit. Turn it on this morning, it gives the vibe, system boots up, makes the proper sounds, responds to touch (I feel the haptic feedback when unlocking the phone).. BUT.. the screen doesn't turn on at all. I did some testing like trying to enter the wrong unlock code and cerberus did take and email a photo to me, so it seems like everything else works. Connecting it to the PC shows all my files as it should.
Question: could the battery be damaged so that it does not have the power to turn on the display but can turn on the rest of the phone's functions? Or did I somehow screw up the display connector? Does anyone know the inner workings of the phone that can help? Are there any diagnostic tools I can run having the phone connected to my PC that would show me if there's something not connected or fried?
Oh, also, if I restart the phone by holding the power button, the LED blinks red a few times.
Maybe the screen cannot access the power due to a wet or damaged component making it partially not working correctly like the screen cannot display what the main board is outputting.

Hmm could be.. not wet though.. the phone was disassembled for at least 3 weeks on my desk...only thing i saw that could have been damaged was the sim card connector though, and i cleaned it up a bit with alcohol.. the display connector and everything in its vicinity looked good

Doesn't look like it.. and when I took it apart it didn't seem like there was any way water would have gotten under there.

Try to look really carefully for any damage, maybe there is some damage which you cannot see at all.

It is most likely the power supply built-in to the Nexus 4 which had a malfunction due to the water causing one part of the connector not to pass power to the screen BUT it allows the rest to do so the only thing you need to replace is the power supply inside.

My friend's phone also got wet in the rain. Left it in a bag of rice for 2 days. Tried powering on got the same result. Can feel the vibrate when phone powers on but display not working. Mostly we are gonna give it a service centre.
yeah its a first time question for me and I'm sorry if it has been covered, I did try to find it. So i replacdd a display on the the deivce and it will not power on or give any sign of life. I checked with my meter and its got roughly 3.5 volts which is good enough to power. any one have an experience with this and know the correct method of getting it to power on? tried volume down and power for ten seconds didnt work. I've got it on the oem charger now even though it has a charge.
Wrong forum... But maybe your digitizer isn't plugged in correctly? Our the digitizer was crack in the process of replacing it

Yea, I have replaced several on the xt910/912 may be an issue with the install check the ribbons for tears... ensure that there both seated correctly.. replace the metal cover over the connectors... did you replace the full housing or just the digitizer/ screen? Or Item may be defective... when plugged in you should still see the led flash green if all is well with the battery ( the ones I have done did)...

yes, i should have seen some sign of life is what i was thinking as well. i replaced the whole bezel. no flash no green light and no idea. I do apologize for wrong forumn.only thing i can think of is that when taking the motherboard off the back of the display is maybe something above got damaged. i thank you both for your answers. is there a heat rip sensor on this model that would cause it to go into protected mode even though it was totally disassembled? i had used my separater to warm the adhesive to make removal of the baord easier
I'm unsure about the sensor... but I use a heat gun as well and never had issues with the Motorola's... i have 3 here one still on GB and the other two on jb.. if you know of a way to get me a shipping label I could send ya one if you think its the logic board or battery (screens are broken)...

Very appreciative man, but the riddle has solved itself. I have changed charging voltages every few hours from different usb sources to wall and to computer. it finally flashed n and i got life. I had a very distraught customer.(not to mention the guy who said sure gimme an hour) xda is a common answer to my google queries.I'm glad that i did finally join. :good:

Hello everyone,
I got this problem with my LG G2 that it fell in the water once, I directly put off the phone. (It was still intact after falling in water).
Later I turned it on but the screen did not show up. Sound works, Vibration works, TOUCH screen works (no graphical stuff) and even if I call my self with another phone the LG goes off, vibrates, plays the ringtone and everything.
I sent my phone to Dynafix which is the repair center, they said it's not available for warranty, because its water damage and they declared the phone as "Unrecoverable". Which I think is pretty weird. I have thought of repairing it myself by buying and new LCD and Digitalizer.

I have never done that though but with a good tutorial on YouTube and the right tools I should be able to do it. But before I take any action which may not work I want more info about this problem.

The water might not have an effect on the device the first couple of hours, but after a short while it will corrode it's way trough the device, rendering it useless. The repair center won't touch it because they know that no matter what they do, there is a huge risk that the corrosion will come back. You're better off with a new device.

The phone in on the charger and on, Everyday I still hear sounds and such. The phone hasnt been in water more then 1 sec though. And afterwards I left it drying in dry rice for 1 week. I know i am a bit selfish but I think there could be a chance of making it work.
The phone comes with a subscription for 2 years and it's not even a year old ;/

Not exactly the same but a friend was skipping lessons at school when we were like 10 (10ish years ago) and using Gameboy Advance SP in the toilets... you can guess what happened... Any way i took it apart and left it in a closet for a few days, gave it back to him fully working after. So it's not necessarily un-fixable.

How fast until you took it apart? Also, did he remove the batteries quickly after water exposure? I'll bet that's not the case with the phone here...

Well yeah, I just turned it off got the back cover off but not got the battery out. and let it dry.
Is there any way to acces the phone's screen through my PC? The phone is rooted.
Fixed the phone!
I removed the main board from the phone and brushed the connections with a toothbrush. Re-assembled the phone and it worked!
The only money I spent is for a plastic opening tool and a philips screwdriver.
