My wife has my old Epic 4G.
I put ACS ICS ROM on it, back when I had it, and she's been using it for a month or so.
Yesterday her phone stopped sending and receiving texts. I pulled the battery, waited a few minutes, then rebooted. it sent 2 text messages, then stopped again. It doesnt work today either.
I don't think ACS ICS ROM is even being worked on any more.
What should I do?
Flash back to stock then flash cm7.
Odin in EC05 tar, root then flash a GB ROM and then flash the EC05toEI22 modem delta.
Firmware version: 2.3.5
Baseband:S7000.5S.EI22
Kernel:2.6.35.7.nubernel_v0.0.2
Build number: ACS ICS
Hardware: D700.0.5
Also, I tried clearing data and dalvik. Didn't expect that to do anything. It didn't.
Should I downgrade EI22 to EC05 then back to EI22?
Update PRL and Profile. Then remove battery for a minute the power back up. And don't use any task killer that clears level 2 RAM.

Really would prefer to not have to go back to stock, then install CM7, then put everything back on, just to get texting working again.

Who said you have to go to stock? Just flash cm7 and wipe data. I do this all the time to go between my new MTD rom, MIUI, and cm7

I'm having a serious issue with the market and I have not been able to find any solutions. No matter what I do, applications will not download. I've wiped cache, dalvik cache, even a factory reset or three and nothing. So I odined back to stock di18 and it still won't download anything. Anyone have any ideas?
Lol - we made threads within a minute.
I've got issues too downloading.

I tried wifi and still a no-go.
Same problem here. Tried downloading an update, and says "Download Unsuccessful" in the notification bar.
I have 2 friends that have the epic 4g and are having the same issue! I rooted the phone for them using the one click root 2.4 and upgrade both to froyo 4.2 beta! I cant say if they had this issue before or not, but they definitly have it now.
Problem: open market try to download any app, it will say that it will download shortly and show briefly in the notification window but then just goes away and never downloads.
I have try connected and disconnected from wifi. Problem still exsist.

I Rooted for a while, then I used Odin to go back to stock dI18. I just recently updated to EB13 using the basic samsung epic recovery method. My camera and screen rotation are broken. Since I am no longer rooted I cant fix it. Will sprint be able to see I was rooted? I want to return the phone and just get a replacement thru insurance. Especially because text messaging hasnt been good. Guess my modem fried. please help thx
No they can't tell you've been rooted.and no they won't exchange phones. They will just reinstall old software. They've been told not to exchange phones over this issue. If you knew someone who works there you might be able to get it done, but probably not.

You're Welcome.
They'll flash DI18 and it'll be back to normal.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I flashed dI18 and it wasnt back to normal as well.
There are fixes for both of those that don't require root. Screen rotation can be fixed doing the horizontal calibration under display settings. The other requires flashing a file to your phone with odin in a rather simple process found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970452
Edit:
By the way, I did have screen rotational problems even after calibrating but I reflashed EB13 with the Samsung tool after wiping data and cache several times then calibrated it again and it fixed whatever the problem was. Also seemed to fix my TWS problem that was still there after the first install.
They will know if you have a custom rom installed. I had a hero for awhile and ended up having problems. Didn't get a call or text for over a week. I called sprint tech support and they told me my current software was an nfx rom and blamed it on that

Could be the way you flashed it. There are problems some people run into when they flash using usb ports that aren't directly connected to the mother board. Reflash and try to use a port connected to the motherboard.

I'm having this problem for awhile, tried different things all end up when tethering my phone shuts off about 45min to 1h of tethering.
Currently on EC05, stock rom and wifi tether 3.0 pre 12 but tried them all and going down in version for more stable one.

Settings, choose device build and select the Epic.
Also, make sure 4G radio is OFF before starting it.
I have all that selected still no luck.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
this happened to me on ef02 it only worked when plugged in to a power source.
I'd suggest uninstalling that one and switching to Barnacle Tether. I recall the WiFi Tether app having technical issues that the dev couldn't get around.

Geez that made my phone unbootable (had back up) but made me more searching around that post so thank u. Since I'm on EC05 that didn't work but found patch that modified framework and now pure hot spot working without wifi tether, thanks again. Not sure what you are asking. Is it about the OTA to Gingerbread or hands-free activation? I have done hands-free activation on a few ROMs with no issues. No rooted ROM will let you get the OTA updates.
I infer that the OP is talking about hands-free activation. If that's the case, I have flashed a bunch of roms from 2.1 through 2.3 and hands-free always worked.
Can you elaborate?
He may have odined with efs clear or whatever checked off. I don't remember exactly what it was but phones weren't reactivating without calling sprint.

Mine reactivated fine. 3 days later it wierdly disconnected and the call went to Sprint and they reactivated it. Had nothing to do with the ROM.

When I fist got my epic and was switching phones I contacted the sprint chat support and they had me enter a dialer code and enter my # in a couple fields. The phone rebooted and was active. Not sure if that helps, I was on stock rom and even it didn't auto activate.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
sorry, to be clear, i am having a hard time with the handsfree activation after flashing a rom to this device.
many folks seem to request the exact opposite built into roms for this phone. meaning upon install and reboot, the rom will not run and complete handsfree activation.
no roms seems to have in the description that handsfree activation is supported.
does that make a little more since? if not let me know and i can give more details
thanks all

All roms have hands free supported that's why you don't see it mentioned. You only activate once brand new out of the box not everytime you flash a rom. Unless you mean the google activation then just open then market and sign in then your google acct is then activated
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I agree, you only have to activate once ever, until you get a new phone. This is a non issue as a result.

Sorry. Drank a Steel Reserve, a couple "C-"s and smoked a blunt during my horrible loss in softball tonight. Thought that was funny.
Good night everybody. Love you all.
I was referring to a while back noobnl started a thread about checking off extra things in odin in relation to clearing nvram or something back when we were trying everything under the sun to fix the gps. I don't remember exactly but when you did it your phone went back too literally out of the box condition deactivated and all.

Never saw anyone requesting on the Epic threads that their phone not activate when switching ROMs. Maybe you saw that on a different phone. The only thing requested here was to stop the OTA update notification.
How did the phone become deactivated
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
the phone was completely wiped, it was a gimme from a friend, i wiped it totally and started fresh. rooted, flashed rom, etc, (froyo) and now after rest it of course starts handsfree act but it crashes before activation finishes.
depending on rom, sometimes the MIN/MDN updates before crash which allows voice/txt only. thats about it. maybe its not the rom's, but i assumed since some will at least go that far. i can not see how it would be anything else because the phone started out as if it came from manu. fresh.
thanks for input everyone, much appreciated
cheers,
disco
How about using stock rom to activate before flashing a custom? You can nandroid your current setup and restore to it after you activate.
