[Q] Clearing Cache on Acer A500 - Acer Iconia A500

Hello, Is there a guick way of clearing the cache memory of a stock A500 running 3.2.1? I have done it by manually going threw each app, but this a long and slow process, is there any way to do this in bulk?
Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Not sure of one for STOCK (non rooted)
easy answer (but not for STOCK Recovery, if you have Rooted tablet, use CWM Recovery.
maybe a app program, but most likely that app program would need ROOTED (and if u had root, you could use CWM Recovery)
it would be nice to have a app that would kill cache and/or other not needed files on 1 touch click.
MyBackup Pro App (Needs ROOT) ...inside "My ToolBox" menu...has great option like "Freeze, Un Freeze, WIPE CACHE, Wipe Data, + more)
easy to check box's on "Non-System Apps" or "System Apps" and get all in 1 click "WIPE CACHE", etc
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro&hl=en
This menu inside "MyBackup Pro" version : https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyToolbox&hl=en

Haven't tried it, but if you aren't rooted this should work.

I am not very familiar with android OS, but through my experience with the iconia, It could only be cleared individually. I searched so hard for an alternative but never had luck!

This clears it, guaranteed:
ACER A500
1. Power Down
2. Make sure the Screen orientation is off (slide to left while landscape mode)
3. Hold down the right volume key (Volume up (+)).
4. Hold down the Power Button.
5. When it buzzes let go of the power but keep hold of the volume up button (+)
rock the screen orientation switch quickly back and forth once.
6. Should say :

Wow, wiping cache through recovery fixed 2 big issues for me...

Issue 1 - Ever since going from FRF50 to 72, I noticed that my soft keys weren't as responsive. My fingers had to roll over onto the actual screen to get them to register.
Issue 2 - Pinch-zooming in the gallery worked oddly. Once I set two fingers down without moving, the image would start shifting away from me. And when I spread my fingers, the image never zoomed into the area between my fingers.
I finally rooted and used amon_ra's recovery to wipe cache and dalvik cache, and both those issues are fixed! I don't know which cache wipe did it, but either way I'm glad it worked.
How to wipe cache with stock phone (no root, no updates)?
Is there any way to do it without third apps?
Yes, boot into recovery (turn off the device, then hold down the trackball while powering on the device)... then follow the instructions to navigate to the recovery window)... I believe when you get to recovery you get an android with an exclamation point.... press volume up, volume down, and power button all at the same time to access the submenus. Wipe should be in there. Works for non-rooted and locked phones. It's the same way I did my manual 2.2 update.

From stock recovery you can select wipe cache partition and see if that helps.
Just to be sure, all my data will still be there after the cache wipe, right? Coz it's only a cache wipe and not a phone wipe...
Sorry for my noob question, my phone is still stock and I m not familiar with the recovery yet, I will try when cm6 is out

This I'm not sure about.... I haven't wiped yet, though I'm about to. I'm not entirely sure what the system stores in the cache partition, so I'm nervous about doing it. I did backup my SMS messages (using SMS Backup & Restore) and my Apps (using AppMonster) just in case I decide to see how it works and it does remove my apps and sms messages. My contacts are all stored with google and on my macs address book so I'm not worried about that. And my photos and music are on the SD card so it won't lose those either.
im having problems with the keys too, and also with my gps...
im wondering, what kind of wipe you did to your N?
I just used amon ra's recovery to wipe the caches.

Thanks for the heads up. I wiped my cache and although I never had any issues with pinch zoom in the gallery, it completely fixed my soft key issue. They are now very responsive and register in the correct spot now!

No you wont lose any data/settings. I know because i just wiped cache partition on my N1 few minutes ago and all my stuff are still intact.
So if you do the OTA, does it wipe the caches for you?
I just did the Wipe Cache Partition, all my things are fine. Stock Froyo with stock recovery. I was hoping to get a better response from the buttons, I'd say it might be better. It's hard to tell, but it doesn't feel like I have to hunt for them as much now.
For anyone wanting to try it, once you get into the recovery menu you'll see it's save. There's a Wipe Data/Factory Reset option and then the last one is Wipe Cache. Just use the trackball to do a Wipe Cache. Mine took about 2.4 seconds to do this. I rebooted (which is nice and quick anymore) and everything seems fine.
I don't know what the cache is or what is in it. It may have just kicked a dog, I don't know.
I do this every few days.
I'm in the same boat, I have no clue if I'm kicking a dead dog or if it helps but I like to think it helps (LOL).
All personal data is intact. Nothing (I notice) is lost.

[Q] Reboot Button problem

OK, I'd appreciate some help here. I Just downloaded Zenmaster's Reboot button app. I probably made a mistake by going to ROM manager and its install from SD card option.
The install started out fine, but just stalled at installing update. Left it there for 30 minutes.
I did a battery pull and the phone went into recovery except it says at the bottom of the screen:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk01p1
(Invalid Arguement)
#MANUAL MODE#
The upper screen has the typical
reboot system now
Apply sdcard...
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Nothing happens with either reboot system now or apply from sdcard
So I really would appreciate...what now.
Are you rooted? Do you have Clockwork Recovery installed?
Are you hitting the "Home" soft button key on the Reboot option? That's the "Enter" key for the stock recovery screen, not the Power button like it is for Clockwork.

Thanks for your response.
Yes I'm rooted and yes I have CWM.
This is embarrassing now, because I WAS NOT hitting the home button, which I should have known to do, but obviously forgot. Did that and I'm back up. Old Droid habits die hard I guess.
My apologies for using up bandwidth and thank you again.

Yeah, that's not gonna work. The app is a .apk file, which gets installed via adb or Root Manager/Astro. It's not a flashable zip.
It's also now available on the market .

Bonus. That is fantastic news.
Well naming the .zip to .apk worked and Reboot Button worked. Sort of. I think what happened here was no fault of the app, but something related to the relationship between my phone and voodoo. I had never seen any particular problem on my phone, but I just wanted a way to disable the thing as I was contemplating flashing jt's ROM.
Well the disabling of voodo lost root on my phone. I use Launcher Pro and that was gone too. So I tried reinstalling that and entered a force close loop from hell. After installing the LP, the phone regressed to the same opening screen it had when out of the box, different from the static wallpaper I had.
There is a thread on this here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/38029-how-escape-force-close-loop-hell.html
I followed that and got back to the out of the box Fascinate state. Only part of my apps, and not all of the paid ones showed up in Market, even after an overnight wait. The significant missing one is Documents to Go.
There was 0.00 space left on internal memory, so I did a factory reset.
This would not be a big deal, BUT the phone will not root, so I can't use Titanium Backup to restore stuff. The Samsung Drivers are installed, the USB cable is the one that came with the phone, and the computer recognizes the device. However, Odin seems to think the device is not connected.
So, I'm not sure what is going on with this phone of mine. Again, I don't think it is the app.
Edit; All is back to normal

boot to clockworkmod and do a wipe of everything. This should fix your sync issue, however you will have to reaload all your apps and set up your phone again. Recommend a Titanium Backup before you do all that though. This fixed it for me.

1. Turn your phone off
2. While holding both the volume buttons down press the Power button. Hold all three down until you have booted to the Hboot screen (android guys on skate boards on the bottom of the screen)
3. Let the phone search for an update (will take about 15 seconds)
4. With the volume buttons toggle down 1 space to recovery. Press the power button.
5. Phone will boot to Clockworkdmod.
6. use the volume buttons to scroll down to wipe data/factory reset and press the power button.
7. Scroll down to yes and press the power button again.
8. After wipe data/factory reset is complete, scroll down to wipe cache partition and press the power button
9. Scroll down to yes and press the power button again.
10. After cache partition wipe is complete scroll down to advanced and press the power button.
11. Scroll down once to Dalvik Cache. Press the power button.
12 Scroll down to yes and hit the power button.
13. After Dalvik Cache wipe is complete, press the menu soft key at the bottom of the phone.
14. At this point your should be back to the main menu of Clockworkmod, reboot system now should be highlighted, press the power button.
15. Phone will reboot, set up your phone again, sign into facebook again and then restore apps via titanium backup.
That worked like a charm, thanks so much!
I spoke too soon. All the sudden half my pics are gone from NY contacts and the sync is down again... any ideas? Is it something in the Super Clean ROM?

I must have done something wrong...

On stock 2.1 from a brand new phone. Wanting to get a Bionix-V 1.2 rom installed to start with. (unless someone points out a more popular/stable/better rom to start with)
So I thought I was following the guide right but I cant figure out what.
NOOB GUIDE is what I was following. Here is where I think i messed up or got lost.
3 – Rom Manager / Clockwork Recovery
Now that you have your apps, system data & home settings saved, go to the Market to download Rom Manager (there is a paid and a free version, either will work, but I always suggest supporting developers if you can). We are going to use Rom Manager to install an alternate recovery, called Clockwork Recovery. This is what allows you to make a backup of your entire system (called a nandroid backup).
Once you download and install Rom Manager, open it, give it Root Access (Check to always remember if it's not already selected). At the top, click "Flash Clockwork Recovery" and after it has finished click to Reboot Into Recovery.
If this is your first time, you are very likely at the stock vibrant recovery (purple text)... click on Re-install packages. Your phone will reboot and should come back to the Clockwork Recovery (green text).
If at stock, click reinstall packages again (likely worked the first time).
Great, now you have a custom recovery. Scroll down (by using the volume buttons) and select (by using the power button) to backup your system. This will take about 5 minutes to complete. Once done, you have a complete snapshot of your phone that you should always be able to come back to.
I strongly encourage reading Koush's thread, you can find it here.
His installation instructions have more detail:
Installation instructions:
1.Download ROM Manager from the Market.
2.Flash Recovery.
3.Choose Vibrant as your phone.
4.Accept the Superuser prompt.
5.On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
6.Watch the backup go!
Click to collapse
The thing is when I try to reboot into Clockwork it still looks the same, nothing happens when i tell Rom Manager to backup, it just restarts to what looks like the original recovery screen. It looks something like this..

OK, so something has gone wrong. At first I thought it was all ok but now the more apps i try to open the more nothing seems to work. Going to try to go back to stock and see if i can start over but I cant seem to get this phone to go to the clockwork recovery menu. Apps don't work probably because you did not do a correct wipe when you flashed. Try: Wipe Data/Factory Reset - then Flash the ROM - then Wipe cache - then go to advanced and wipe Devil Cache - then Fix permissions from the same menu, go back and reboot.

@ferhanmm: I did get bionix on but it was acting very flaky, system ended up getting stuck in what i thought was a brick but someone in my other thread helped me get it working again and now i have a fully working trigger rom.
Everything is up and going again now I would like to get a theme for it, but really the only thing i dont like is all the green icons. About to do some research and see if I can just replace icons somehow.

[Q] Phone Constantly Locks - Which Service is Responsible?

I used Titanium Backup to uninstall certain packages (not before backing them up, of course) and it seems that I uninstalled too much... Whenever I start certain applications, the phone immediately blanks - and locks.
I have to press the power button 1-2 times before the screen unlock allows me to seep my finger. And it doesn't always succeed in retaining the screen: too often, it will immediately blank and lock again.
Example of applications that make the phone lock: Titanium Backup.
Example of applications that don't blank the phone: Dialer.
I started restoring some of the packages I uninstalled yesterday with the hope that this will fix the problem. So far I tried restoring:
- hiddenmenus
- sns
- Dialer 2.2.2
-setup wizard
- syncMLsvc
But without much success yet.
Any idea which service or package are responsible for correct behavior of the phone?
UPDATE 2: I gave up and decided to flash the EC07-Nuckin-1 ROM. I repeated the entire procedure detailed here and the phone boots fine, but the problem persists - in addition to the fact that the soft menu buttons now disappeared (replaced by faint color dots - LED-like).
How could this happen? Is it possible that my phone contracted an Android virus? (it appears that the problem started immediately after installing Stay Awake from the Android Market.
OK, this is becoming insane: I did a factory reset, re-installed ec07-clean, and not only the problem persists, the settings, home, back and search buttons no longer work!
Not to mention that my account details (and everything else) are still there, even after the factory reset...
And Market won't even start.
How is this possible?
What do I do to simply start from scratch, wiping out everything and all history (except for the SD card)?

I'm not really interested in 2.1. I just don't understand why a total re-install of ec07clean.zip + ec07.tar + update.zip won't restore everything to "brand new condition". Surely there is a way to tell the phone to "forget all history". But what is it?
In the meanwhile, I managed to make the Settings (leftmost) button work, by manually restoring SDM from Titanium Backup.
Android Market now starts. But the SCREEN OFF problem persists. I am now beginning to believe that Stay Awake actually caused a permanent damage.

I understand that they aren't 100% and I am OK with that. All I want is bring the phone to that pristine state it was right after I upgraded it from DL17 to ec07clean.zip.
Is this possible at all?
I even tried the built in stock recovery 2e to do "factory restore". Didn't help.
Why doesn't it even delete my account information? This is weird.

I tried this at least 4 times. It doesn't get rid of anything. That's really puzzling.
In the meanwhile, I managed to restore my phone to a usable state (i.e. get rid of the original screen-off problem). Here is how I did it:
Settings > Display Settings > Power saving mode: UNCHECK (was checked)
Settings > Display Settings > Screen timeout: 1 minute (non was selected!)
I bet this was some remanent of that Stay Awake app.
Now, I lost quite a few productivity hours due to this. But at least now I know that this phone will always be mine, because in this particular phone, "Factory data reset" simply doesn't work.
Have you thought about using a different version of clockwork for flashing and wiping? That usually helps or perhaps stock recovery even
