Hi,
I ha ve done a full restore of my current Taboonay 2.2 image (done 3 weeks ago) to restore my tablets with my prefered applications.
Everything is ok on tablet but i have loose the root access , strange, i have it when i have done the full backup of my configuration.
Before restore i have done a wipe of all (except battery).
I have try to run again IconiaRoot, but receive message : Iconia Root has been denied root privileges.
What is wrong ? How to restore root access (for me Taboonay should be rooted as defaut).
Many thx for help.
SOLVED !
I have apply this patch on CWM to grab root access again

Were you running SetCPU? I saw in that article you linked that was thought to be the cause. I use Taboonay and SetCPU and haven't had this. I've restored quite a few times after numerous restores.

I have titanium backup and I want to restore but it needs root. How can I get root in froyo?
Paul will be posting an update.zip for rooted phones shortly according to his twitter. I'd wait for that.

I had the some error. It's not because of root, it's because BusyBox is not installed. Hit "Problems?" within Titanium Backup and download the patch. That solved it for me.

I will try
Hope it will work for me

I'm fairly new to Android and have just rooted my Milestone 2.
If I reset to factory settings, will this remove root functionality (from what I have read I don't believe it will, but just want to confirm)?
(Assuming the answer to the above question in 'No it won't remove root') How would I go about unrooting my device? The method I used was to copy the files required to my M2 and then run the commands in terminal on the device, are the a set of commands to reverse this procedure?
What precautions should I take before doing anything else with my phone? I have read people recommending installing Koush's BootStrapper, does this effectively create a 'Last Known Good Configuration'?
Then finally what software should I load to get the best out my rooted M2? I was looking at installing AdFree, Titanium Backup and Root Explorer to start...
Thanks is advance to responses to my questions
First off rooting your phone is basically just installing programs to your root app folder that allows programs to use anything they want on your device.
Where root gets installed is a place that is not affected by restoring your phone so no restoring will not remove root. Im not sure if z4root works with the m2 (I don't see why not), but its a free app on the market that can remove root for you.
Koush will let you backup up the current state of your phone (apps and all) so if you get a bootloop you can restore it which should only come in handy if you are installing custom roms but is still handy just to have.
Finally some root apps I recomend are: ad free, titanium backup, root explorer, droid overclock (another that MAY work on the m2 not sure), cache cleaner, that should be it I will edit if I remember any others.

Thanks, I've read about ClockworkMod, is this do something similar or is that just for custom ROMs?

They are one in the same except koush's bootstrapped clockwork recovery is built to work with the D2/DX's locked bootloader.

If this was designed for the D2, would installing it on the M2 cause any major issues, I don't mind trying it, but is there a possibility that it could brick my device?

there's always a possibility of a soft bricking or that it might not function correctly not being built specifically for the M2. I know there is an SBF for the Milstone 2 so I'd read up and have all of the files ready for the M2 before I would even attempt to do install the bootstrap. I mean there are no ROMs for the M2 as far as I know so it's not a big deal to try installing it right away but I know you want a backup so it's up to you to try but have the correct SBF ready in case something goes awry you can flash it and be back to stock. (always have your phone's charge pretty high when you start to flash stuff, nobody likes a phone dying during a flash process.)
Hey I just got my atrix on Thursday and rooted but was reading that the update is supposed to land tomorrow and was just wondering if I need to unroot to install the update.
no, but you will lose root after update
I think you have the webtop hack installed it will mess it up though.
Personally, I won't be updating until I can upgrade and get root, titanium backup, setcpu and webtop onto my phone. Not worth losing all of those.
On a side note: to people who are upgrading and losing root: have any of you guys used Google's built-in app backup? How does it work? Can you force it to reinstall apps, etc.?

Ya I only rooted and enabled the side loading apps, with the update is there any way to side load apps
Moved as not android development
I am going to reflash and do the base sbf -> aroot -> update procedure again tomorrow to make sure I didnt somehow get a legacy copy of the beta earlier and will post back confirming, but with the beta that method worked for keeping sideloading, been using the amazon market on and off all day.
I simply can't figure this out. I have an A500 that I have rooted successfully back a few months ago and installed HoneyVillain 1.04 ROM. It has worked flawlessly for months. Now I can't get root access with Titanium BU, BusyBox, Root Explorer or anything! I've tried re-rooting it using GingerBreak 1.2 with no success. I can access a backup that I made right after I rooted a few months ago, but that doesn't bring back root either. Can someone please tell me what to do before I make a 10.1" frisbee out of this thing. The tab's batery has been allowed to go completely dead once, but I don't think that would be the problem. I'd like to install the latest version of HoneyVillain if I can get root back. I sincerely appreciate anyone's help.
Sounds weird. You hadn't flashed anything else had you or installed a system update?
What's your kernel version & build number?
Have you tried using IconiaRoot?

Did you by chance do a restore using cwm..? Every time I did a full restore I would loose root.
I haven't flashed anything and no system update. I'm about to try IconiaRoot 1.3. Still looking for the answer...I'll report back. Thanks!
I tried Iconia Root. It goes through the steps and says Done...Have Fun! Then a message says Iconia Root has been denied root privileges. I tried to unroot and it says something went wrong and I'm still rooted. I must be somewhere between rooted and unrooted! What now????

Well, you're right - it did work. I didn't even have to root again. Everything is back after the reflash of the ROM. Now tell me the full story. I'm wanting (I think) to try the latest HoneyVillain ROM.
By the way, thank you VERY much for you help.

You must not have wiped anything...? (Not that that is bad just more tech info for me), still learning.
Anyway, I have used honey vill and taboonay many version and with different kernals and love both roms.
What happans to me is I use cwm after I get the tab set the way I want and then do a full backup using cwm. Then I always want to fire test my backups so I immediately do a full restore using cwm, soon after I start getting denials from super user..? And after checking using a app from the market to check root, I have now lost root and can't get back, same as you.
I now just reflash the rom and if I do full wipe I reroot and all is well.
So I went with a different rom, backup and immediately do full restore and now no root again.
It happaned with every rom I have tried. Someone told me to delete the android.secure.image folder from the backup set that cwm makes. I tried that and that did let the restore, restore the flex rom folder but had the same problem. I have two a500 and both do this. I don' t know if stock rooted will do this as I have not tried yet. So what good is a full backup if it fudges your system. Maybe someone has a answer, but I have not found one. Sorry if this ain't your problem at all, but might be related. Later

That's amazing. I want to move up to the new HoneyVillain, so I guess I can count on rooting again? Wow. I love my Iconia though. I just remembered that I recently had trouble with WIFI so I DID do a restore via CWM. I guess I just realized that things weren't rooted! Oh well, you have provided some much needed info for me. At least now, I will know what to expect. Thanks again. Have a blessed evening.
I also had the wifi problem, and that is what started the whole thing with the full restore. Have a good one.
The same thing happened to me. I just installed another ROM to fix it.
Kinda ridiculous though. At least we know how to deal with it.
Thanks for this thread -- confirmed my sanity when I lost root after a CWM restore. Does anyone know if the updated version (1.6) of CWM for the A500 fixed this problem?
Hello friends,
I just went thru this whole ordeal. I reinstalled my 3.2 backup, but it wasn't rooted. That's when I realized root is written to the device and not the rom. I didn't know this. Anyway, after going thru hours of doing this all again and installing my virgin backup with nothing but root access (oh brother, what a pain) I realized something:
Theoretically, if something went wrong, and I had to reinstall my unrooted backup, and since you can't root 3.2, couldn't I just go into recovery (since I would already have that from gaining original root access) and install the rooted 3.2 update over 3.2 non-rooted and it would be rooted all over again? I haven't tried it, but I think that would work, wouldn't it?
Thanks!
Also, I know about Titanium backup, but I don't like it b/c it's left me with corrupted backups and missing data time and time again.
