Milestone 2 weird camera bug - Milestone 2 General

Got my Milestone 2 today. Great device but one odd problem: When starting the camera, lighting levels in both the preview and taken images is darker than normal. Very dark and also washed out.
Quitting and relaunching the camera immediately fixes this issue, the camera mechanism makes fairly loud 'adjustment' noises and then everything's normal.
I flashed a CM7.2 ROM and the behaviour is exactly the same. This leads me to conclude it may be a hardware issue. I have already emailed the distributor about possible replacement of the phone (it hasn't been 24hrs yet) but wuld like to hear your thoughts on how likely this is to happen with a replacement.
The phone was bought brand-new, pristine condition.

X10 Backlight problem - lower area near the keys

Hi Guys,
I just bought an X10 yesterday. I noticed that the lower area (portrait mode) of the LCD looks like a bit dim/burned if the background is white. I noticed this when I opened facebook and looks like there are shades of light yellow where it looks like a shadow from the backlight not properly diffused. I'm going to take a picture later and paste it here. This is an expensive phone and I'm guessing that it should'nt show anything like this. Let me know if you also noticed something like this too.
Thanks.
Try another program and if the problem persists you have a hardware defect.

Yup. Tried it out, Pretty sure that it is not the app itself. Problem is pretty static even on landscape mode.
Thanks, I'm going to the shop later to return it.
OT: I think X10 is a bit overpriced - maybe not used to plastic feeling, I was pampered by my HD2.
Same here
I have the same problem, but didn't give it too much attention.
I am curious if the shop will change it for you. Let us know please.
Me too. Doesn't bother me though.
Well, I went back to the shop. They showed me the working display item. It also showed the problem. I told them that maybe the backlight was burned out and asked them to open a new set for 1:1 exchange. Same thing, problem is still there... They changed it anyway. I'm entitled for 1x 1:1 exchange for 60 days and used it by just opening box. Still asked them to replace it my 1 day old set with the newly opened X10 just to make my wife happy =). Well, still sigh.... Expensive phone with a poor backlight. I don't have it on my HD2. If you do browsing and you're aware of the problem, sometimes it just pisses you off. But not the end of the world.
OT: I'm starting to enjoy android now =) Fast and fluid... stock UI sucks for X10 but definitely can be changed and will definitely rock if rooted. I also thought that the camera button was spoilt, but was surprised that you can do a "half press" to do a focus like a normal camera. Brilliant!

what a surprise... maybe the batch the store got all have some defects. i have zero problems with my lcd and everything looks beautiful and sharp with great contrast.
I really don't know. 1 batch and all defected, possible. I actually mentioned it to them but they told me that since they released the product here in Singapore, it is the same batch. And I'm the only one who noticed it...
Are you talking about the 'wavy' pattern on the bottom of the screen? It's as if the screen wasn't laid flat and the shades of the wave shows on the white screen?
Not sure if that made any sense but it's on my device and same as my friends.
Yes, I'm referring to that one. I just checked my HD2, and it is also there but not that obvious, unlike the X10.
"Lights at the bottom are poorly diffused". And you can see the shadow of the 6 LED lights SE used. When I saw this patterns, I remembered the old LED to lit the LCDs on old Nokia monochrome phones =), and you can change that to any color just to be hip when I was still a teenager.
Well, I still like the phone. =)
Had to open a plain white google home screen with opera just to find this, yes its where the leds are spaced and what ^^ said about diffusion. Very unnoticable unless you look for it.
I'd recommend not looking for it
It is on every single X10 unit and it is nothing that should bother anyone since it is only visible in very light plain backgrounds.
I noticed it since day one but I was surprised that it does not show in dark backgrounds. It is unlike the color bleeding that would happen on some LCDs. Therefore, it is ok and nothing to bother about

Just swapped out my EVO and got the replacement. Two new things on the EVO.

I just wanted to say that I got my EVO replacement due to the screen separation issue. Anyway, as soon as I got the replacement phone I noticed two things that were different from my first EVO.
1. The back cover: The back cover on this EVO is a little darker than my original and seems to be made of that scratch resistant rubber plastic on phones like the Palm Pixi. It's not as rubbery as the Pixi but it's there and it's definitely different from my first phone.
2. Screen Brightness: The screen on the replacement is much brighter than my first EVO. Even at the highest setting on my original I was a bit disappointed coming from the Nexus One. This second phone is easily as bright as the N1.
Could the phone really be a little different this early on in production?
Whats the hardware version?
It says 0003. I never checked my first EVO though.
I received an 0003 on launch day. It does not have any of the issues so far that people have been plagued with.. I have noticed that the light from the buttons bleeds through to the lcd screen which is annoying and is more obvious depending on what is being displayed on the screen. There is not screen seperation or light gap between the frame though.
I have one of the first batch EVOs and mine says version 0003 as well. Maybe they didn't bother changing that information?
I wish there was a way to compare. Either way, I'll probably wait and see if my EVO gets any worse within my 30 days before I ask them to swap it out for a newer version. But I also don't have too many issues with it. My touch screen works properly (not sure if there's an issue or not because I tried it on my pillow again this afternoon and it worked fine) and my screen has not separated yet (though the light does still leak through a teeny bit).
I have version 2 and I haven't had any of the issues people are mentioning. Hopefully I don't have to swap mine out.
Sent from my EVO using tapatalk.
I've got a v2 and no issues except for the ground one which I don't really give a crap about.
I have version 002 and I don't have any problems I hope. I do get the problem with my screen not mounted correctly so when it is on a table the screen is not working properly

All 3 of ours were 0002 from sprint.com on launch day; all 3 have the glass problem and mine has the blown speaker problem.
Hoping when they get them back in stock, the exchanges will be better.
Yeah, I also have a 002, most likely because I have a Google IO phone. It seems to have none of the problems that are being talked about—not even light leakage or touchscreen. Only problem out there is the 30FPS cap and that's established to be kernel/firmware. Seems like the first true production run of EVOs had some shoddy work...

Odd because my Evo is from launch day and has the rising screen issue but it also has the same back cover and very bright screen you seem to be describing on your replacement. I kept comparing my Evo to my HD2 and saying wow the Evo screen is so much nicer and brighter for some reason.

Have you tried pressing down on the glass just below the 4 touch buttons? I had the light leakage since day one but I had read about it in a few tech blogs who demoed the Evo before launch and said they noticed that so I figured it was just a flaw to live with on most if not all Evo's. But now that my screen raised up and can move up and down a bit, when I press down hard enough (which isn't very hard), the light leakage goes away until I remove my fingers or until the screen decides to pop back out later.
Guess I am not the only one noticing this:

Second EVO (replacement for first.
Im currently on the second EVO now and I too niticed a difference in the brightness from the first one. This one it brighter and the bottom 4 buttons are evenly lit on this EVO. The Hardware on this current EVO is 0003. I dont know what the first EVO was. I am currently waiting for sprint to get more in stock so they can send me a 3rd replacement. This model has the yellowish vertical lines in the screen,
Today I went to use the front facing camera and the phone froze, rebooted, and now uses the back cam no matter what setting I put it on. It seems like the front cam is nonexistent. I have done a factory reset and still nothing. I dont understand what happend to HTC's quality controll from Hero to EVO. The Hero I had had ZERO issues and now these phones are falling apart right out of the box. Way to go HTC!!!
I have 002, having the glass issue along with light bleed. Right now it's not that bad when I have a case on it. But I am going to get TEP and get a new phone a year lol.

5. transfer the file to desk-top through wifi network, cell-phone reboot automatically
Nope

I have none of the above problems.
KE1 - Rooted
Everything you listed describes a faulty device, apart from the pale red spot in the middle of camera shots. Everyone phone has it. Nothing you can do about it unfortunately.
Like hearing it from a friend of a friend of a friend? Or better yet, "I'm the dude playin' the dude, disguised as another dude!" Awesome!
Experiencing NONE of the issues you posted.
(And, might want to lay off touching wood all the time, my momma told me that would make ya go blind. )

Take a shot of a white wall indoors with medium lighting and default settings (everything on auto) and with the flash off. I suspect most if not all GS2s have this issue, but it only becomes visible in certain situations.

Yes, there's a slight tinge of redness compared to SGS, I have both phones and side by side, it's pretty evident. However, it doesn't make the SGSII awful, and it might have to do with Gingerbread more than the hardware anyway. Overall, the contrast is much better on the SGSII, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the screen.
Only issue I have with mine is heat. If I browse too much (15 minutes max)
the top of the phone, especially screen, will get warm getting towards moderately hot to touch.

I agree. The pink patch on indoor photos seems to have improved on mine since I upgraded to VillainRom too - undoubtedly a result of KE2 which it's based upon. There is only a very slight red tinge now.
Everyone phone has it
NONSENSE .

When I tried to charge my battery today it said after around three minutes that the chargeing is paused due to warm / cold device/battery.... WTF???! AND... I got slow connection sometimes and sometimes it will dissconnect and disappear...
OP - not sure where you got all but one of these "defects", noone else has reported anything like them. Battery life is bad atm which is an android problem, and also wifi is reportedly weak, other than that....

Wow, perfect post. Answered none of the points, and completely lacking in anything specific to help anyone to make an informed decision on keeping or choosing the phone. Sometimes something works and sometimes it completely stops...something.
I have ke2 unrooted firmware, and on the last few days, the vibrate on the phone has stopped working. Don't know if anyone else has had this problem, switched it on and off in the hope it was a temp fault, but no such luck at the moment.

[Q] Display fault. Hardware/software?

So i recieved my Galaxy s2 the other day, as a replacement for my HTC HD2 which was in for a repair with a broken screen - apparently it was 'unecconomical' to repair - but i certainly wasnt complaining!
Awesome phone, had it for two days, rooted it fine using Odin and superoneclick - fantastic tool..
After rooting i re-flashed with stock kernel again.
All was absolutely fine, i was using my phone without problems until a few hours later (yesterday evening) when after putting it down for five minutes and picking it up again, there was a pixel wide horizontal line running across the screen.
They are not dead or stuck pixels, as they change colour with the background- they just appear extremely brightly, so stand out from the rest of the display.
No amount of adjusting has resolved this, rebooting/hard reset etc. the line remains prominently running from the right side, and slowly fading to the left.
Ive searched online but cant see any issues with screens like this, just dead pixel lines and stuck pixels.
If anyone may have an idea on whether this could be software related problem or hardware related would be great to know your thoughts.
Cheers, Alex
I would be taking it straight back . I got a couple of sgs2 handsets back in may when they were 1st released and i had numerous screen issues. i got one a few days ago an my friend got one yesterday and the screens are pretty much bang on (tiny tiny yellow tint if you go looking for it)
No lines , no dead pixels , beautifull screens even with the slight yellow tint
I hated my 1st screens so there are defo some bad ones knocking about and some that are literally 10x nicer to look at
Like i say take it back buddy
Good luck with it and let us know how you got on
Also pictures of the problem could be interesting
Yep I definitely will...
Just whether to un-root and reset flash count first or not - probs a good idea im thinking.
Aside from that i agree its a lovely display- ive heard about the yellow tint but noticed it on mine.
Will try and get a pic up before it goes back..
Cheers for the input!

White clouding and blotching on the screen

I just sent this message to Asus:
I love the TF101, but my screen has white blotches on it.
They appeared a few weeks ago. I'm not sure why--I've almost never brought device out of the house, and it has absolutely no damage to it. I've never dropped it or done anything to it that should cause problems.
The blotches are caused by the screen being brighter in some areas than in other areas. There's also light that spills in from the bottom of the screen. I will upload photos that should demonstrate this.
It's difficult to see in the photos, but it is very noticeable when using the device. It's especially annoying when there is a dark background or image on the screen, and it makes it hard to read black text in those areas.
I have done some google searching and discovered that a few other people have been having similar problems.
The device was bought only 6 months ago, so I hope I'm still under some type of warranty. The problem is a lot worse than it looks in the picture.
I'm wondering if you have any service options available for me?
Thanks! It is otherwise a great product, and I'm very happy to hear it is scheduled to receive Jelly Bean.
//end message
Here are two photos of the problem. I'm wondering if anyone here has had similar issues? A google result brought up a few threads, but not many on XDA.
http://imgur.com/a/ujLXs
I had that same issue, and they had to replace my screen under warranty.
Have it too. I thought I caused it by accidentally pressing the screen ( even I do not remember doing it).
And it looks like hw fault. GreatI have to look for the bill.
