Any one else noticed this?
I don't nomally use portrait but tried it on the google news site, it seemed to work fine. What do you mean by bad scrolling?

It seems like the overshoot hysteris is less on thhe acer than on my smsung galaxy tab. Not sure if that's a hardware thing or a dif between honeycomb and froyo
Softkeyboard or dock, the delay is killing me.
Its a bug i tried stock and prime v1.4 are the same, still cant type in browser, maxthon...
Opera mobile is normal.
The Samsung 10.1 has the same problem (actually worse IMO). Seems to be a Honeycomb issue.

Seems to be a stock browser issue, actually. As others have reported, Opera works fine because it was built from a completely different browser engine.
I found that the lag in the stock browser is minimal if you disable plugins.
Typing lag and potrait frame rate drop; are the biggest reasons why iPad is winning tablet race. U might not think those 2 things are huge issue but have someone who plays with the iPad and give android tab a try will be turned off by this. I know because my brother put down my xformer noticing so much lag and went back to his fluid iPad. Sucks I hope it gets resolved soon
the keyboard lag while typing in the browser is from the browser autocomplete / autosearch. This doesn't make it OK I know. But if you can turn it off (or a rom can turn it off) it should help.
What people are saying about portrait fps I don't know. Scrolling and zooming in the browser and gallery for example go butter smooth whatever my orientation is.

not to make fun or anything, but u might not have the eyes to notice a frame drop in portate mode, but its def no where near as smooth as landscape
Since this is (was?) The dev forum I was only giving facts, to help find the source. It's not apparent in every app and or every device. Bb

Well, that and Apple has been in the market almost 2 years. And they advertise at least once on every prime time show I watch.
Anyway, really happy with my Transformer. I'm impressed with how well the apps. work. EVERYTHING WORKS. It may even be better than my Vibrant. Skype and Netflix are my only two issues? Where are you?
I have another tablet (Elocity A7). Same CPU (Froyo), no browser lag. Incredibly snappy. Anyway, the transformer is a huge setup in quality. 3.1 is awesome so far (after a little getting used to).
Generally the browser freakin' awesome. Everything works (except the click lag issue). Something is definitely up with that. I also miss the click highlighting from Froyo.
O wow I've spent a while trying to sort out this issue, glad its not only me!
The lag is pathetic, this is the only thing left letting me down now. I cant believe this is happening with this great tablet!! Google need to sort this out with up-most priority!!
NOW!
Maybe some1 should try to downgrade it to 2.3.3 to reduce the bug in 3.1 )

Does this happen on the Xoom? If not then maybe someone could port over the apk?
I have both TF and the Tab 10.1 right now and contemplating returning one. I liked both the tablets, but one little issue I dont like about the TF is flash playback. Flash playback even in 720p, is ultra smooth on the 10.1, while its choppy at best on the TF. Anyone else facing the same issue?
Anyone running custom ROMs able to fix this? Would getting the browser apk from the Tab 10.1 fix this issue on thr TF?
Is your TF on 3.1 or the stock 3.0? I had some really bad lag and skipping with my TF when I was on the stock 3.0. I manually installed the 3.1 update from a link on the XDA forum. Was easy and went smoothly. Ever since, my flash playback via youtube has been butter on HD.

Yea I'm on 3.1, installed from XDA. The flash playback is bad for me.
Same here. Flash playback is much smoother on the 10.1. Especially on browser.
this is a known issue, go to .. http://www.youtube.com/my_speed
Scroll down and hit show test video.. URL see the fps, change it to 720p on my tf it gets 9-10 ,where is the xookm gets 30+ on all videos , and I'm on 3.1
Seems like hardware acceleration isn't working with tf...
What does 10.1 get

Just wondering, can any devs turn on Hardware accerelation in their ROM's ?
no idea.. its really annoying though as this is what I really looked forward to in 3.1..

This is a valid issue though and I for one and interested in other users' experiences. I was unaware that flash runs better on the other HC tablets and had put it down to being just a HC + Flash issue.

There was no intention of flame. The question was asked, to find out what different in the TF, having the same hardware n the OS as the Tab 10.1. I'm not asking others to take my decision, I'm only asking others to help me resolve an issue, which I feel is important in my decision making. Stop jumping onto obnoxious conclusions.
There is no fix for this problem. Only Asus can provide a solution. And i hope they doing it asap.
me too.. so annoying as oit works on any other 3.1 tablet...

yes, i am reakkt disappoint about the flash performance..though i love my transformer.
hope it will be solved soon, like the youtube app playback issue
I agree that the weak threads about nonsense details between tablets and which is better are useless. This thread, however, is clearly asking an important question. Why are tablets that essentially use the same hardware and same software performing differently?
I have had no issues with flash playback being "choppy". I would use the speed test, but my tab is in Texas right now. Haha.
Anyway, this is definately a software issue and you can expect a fix either on XDA or courtesy of Asus. It's not something that will always be a problem and shouldn't be a deciding factor, imo.
Afterall, can't you root and install a custom ROM to alleviate the problem?

That was a part of my question too. This is one of the deciding factor for me right now, bcoz I spend lot of time on Youtube and I have major buffering issues using the youtube app on both tabs, which strangely is not there when using flash
Mine is rooted running Prime 1.4, latest clem kernel, OC'd to 1.6ghz and it still is only getting 9-10. Tried in stock browser as well as Dolphin HD. I'm not sure where the bottleneck is... Not sure if it helps anyone but for some relative numbers, the quadrant score is 4000+.
So, it seems to not be a processing power bottleneck but some other factor.

Of course it isn't the processing power. When he's saying other tablets with identical clock speeds and identical processors perform better, that's a given! lol
I'd get an advanced task manager-type app and go through disabling features and turning off background programs until the problem is resolved. Troubleshoot it.
It's not a processing problem as that test video clearly shows that the transformer is using software decoding rather than the hardware decoding it should be using.
It's either an issue of missing libs on the transformer or Flash falling back to software decoding when it shouldn't be. I'll steal a copy of the flash system libs from the tab and install them in the transformer to see if that fixes the issue.
sassafras
Just ran the test, and I'm getting the same poor results. And, I'm not sure if it's relevant (might not be saying what I'm thinking it is), but the test video also indicates software decoding. Not sure if this should say hardware decoding, but it sure seems like it would make sense.
This does seem like an issue if other Honeycomb 3.1/Tegra 2 tablets are performing better here and/or using hardware decoding. Makes one wonder where else there might be issues.
Asus, if you're checking these threads out, looks like something you should be fixing.

I have a Xoom running 3.2. Most of the changes are behind the curtain so you will not notice them in the UI. One change you will notice and use is the zoom feature for non-tablet apps that would appear small even in portrait mode. But when you stretch or fill screen, the sharpness goes away just as am image stretched would be. One thing it did do for my Xoom was enable the MicroSD card but read only. Even my Viewsonic GTab running 2.2 Froyo had read/write permissions on the MicroSD almost a year ago...
In a nutshell, the 3.2 update for the Xoom was about making the Xoom more stable and that it did, much like the 3.1 Build 8.4.4.11 follow-up update for the TF did. As far as new features we can see and play with, well I think we'll be waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0...

I believe that the 3.2 update brings some additional bugfixes that are very significant. Can you report on portrait scrolling between screens? The absolute worst flaw imho is the rendering when it portrait, its just damn ugly.

Smooth as butter on my Xoom swiping screens side to side in portrait mode. Checked it on my TF for you too and smooth as well. Some members have reported lag when turning the tab from landscape to portrait but that is the design not a bug. If it was instant, the screen would be changing every time you made any tilting movement. It has to be at a certain angle for 500ms or so...
Please could you report whether there is any 'judder' in pan shots using an H264 video in stock player?

Tegra 2 devices have to struggle with orientation changes because everything has to be rendered in software instead of hardware (wtf nvidia).
Toss a widget on the homescreen and watch that sucker lag.

Maybe I don't understand. My home page has only BobClock widget but the screen to the right has 4 widgets (YouTube, Market, Media widget and Google Buzz widget). I can scroll right through those pages to the right and back to the left, in landscape and portrait mode with no lag or delay... Should I be seeing something different? I can video it for you if you want to see it...

Hello,
- Why Samsung does not publish the android 3.2 ?
I have a lag with galaxy tab 10.1
- Samsung plans to do something, will solve the problem?
thank you for your help
Last I heard it would be second quarter 201mumblemumblenever.
What is 3.2 supposed to give us?
Just my opinion, but I doubt you will ever see 3.2 on the tab, as stated in the post above. With the next version of android a little over a month away I doubt very much that Samsung is going to waste $ on developing an update that will be extinct in such a short time. Then again, all we have are rumors on ICS.

You mean download the GT P7500 rom (I am using P7500) and flash it in my GT?
That will reduce the lag by some amount?
Which type of lag exactly are we talking about here? I see lag in some areas, but not others. For instance, I can switch home screens without lag, however in some text boxes, there is significant lag that prevents me from efficiently editing text, especially when I'm using Swype (unfortunately, because I love Swype). Also, in some apps, Swype performs very well, and other times it does not.
So, could you be more specific with where you're experiencing lag? There may be a solution besides flashing a custom ROM (not that I think that's a bad idea either, just a little bit more work).
As far as Google Android Honeycomb 3.2, I don't know if that will happen or not. I tweeted Samsung about it, and got a less-than-stellar response.

Not good samsung
Not good at tracking software
Iconia tab a500 has tracking software and android 3.2
Sony S has tracking software and android 3.2
What exactly is tracking software? I had a GT, traded it in for a Sony S, couldn't sleep at night, and just exchanged it for another GT. Nothing too special about 3.2, you could stretch apps that weren't made for tabs..

thanks for the tip, didn't improve it but it was worth a try. My g/f's Tab pan's fine. Hers is really smooth an doesn't have any panning issues, or opening and closing apps. I'm not sure whats wrong with mine. Is this common with 3.1 or could it be something wrong with my Tab? I just want panning to be smooth and opening/closing apps.
