When android 3.2 for the galaxy tab 10.1 ? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hello,
- Why Samsung does not publish the android 3.2 ?
I have a lag with galaxy tab 10.1
- Samsung plans to do something, will solve the problem?
thank you for your help

Last I heard it would be second quarter 201mumblemumblenever.

What is 3.2 supposed to give us?

Just my opinion, but I doubt you will ever see 3.2 on the tab, as stated in the post above. With the next version of android a little over a month away I doubt very much that Samsung is going to waste $ on developing an update that will be extinct in such a short time. Then again, all we have are rumors on ICS.

Just flash my rom. Your lag will be gone.

I can vouch for that

You mean download the GT P7500 rom (I am using P7500) and flash it in my GT?
That will reduce the lag by some amount?

Which type of lag exactly are we talking about here? I see lag in some areas, but not others. For instance, I can switch home screens without lag, however in some text boxes, there is significant lag that prevents me from efficiently editing text, especially when I'm using Swype (unfortunately, because I love Swype). Also, in some apps, Swype performs very well, and other times it does not.
So, could you be more specific with where you're experiencing lag? There may be a solution besides flashing a custom ROM (not that I think that's a bad idea either, just a little bit more work).
As far as Google Android Honeycomb 3.2, I don't know if that will happen or not. I tweeted Samsung about it, and got a less-than-stellar response.
https://twitter.com/#!/SamsungSupport/status/117664881280425984
For archival purposes, a copy of the quote: "@SamsungSupport
Samsung Support
@pcgeek86 Trevor, Currently we don't have any information but when we do we'll let our customers know. Thanks! ^Jess"
Additionally, the developer of Starburst ROM for the Galaxy Tab 10.1" said that he's working on a port of Honeycomb 3.2:
https://twitter.com/#!/JonathanAlvey51/status/117772837544140800

We will probably see Ice Cream Sandwich instead of 3.2.

Thank you for your answers
Not good samsung
Not good at tracking software
Iconia tab a500 has tracking software and android 3.2
Sony S has tracking software and android 3.2

What exactly is tracking software? I had a GT, traded it in for a Sony S, couldn't sleep at night, and just exchanged it for another GT. Nothing too special about 3.2, you could stretch apps that weren't made for tabs..

Probably CarrierIQ

faster web browser and less lag with same processor and RAM .

Please...Why do we think we are entitled to everything..I would rather the forgo 3.2 for Ice cream sanwhich and have a full OS upgrade rather the a minor updated.

Not me.
Especially when it comes to repair major problems such as lags
I feel that majors conccurents, are more reactive and present

my lag is panning from home screen to home screen. it stutters when switching home screens. I did a factory reset and it still lags or stutters.

Try clicking the + symbol top right corner, then click other, then click home button, see if swiping lag improves.
Or you can try one of the launchers, like adw ex. Improves lag on homescreens.

thanks for the tip, didn't improve it but it was worth a try. My g/f's Tab pan's fine. Hers is really smooth an doesn't have any panning issues, or opening and closing apps. I'm not sure whats wrong with mine. Is this common with 3.1 or could it be something wrong with my Tab? I just want panning to be smooth and opening/closing apps.

Slow Text Entry?

Is is just me, or is the text entry kind of pathetic on the browser of the tab
any desktop site, like.. Facebook , or XDA, typing lags always a second, so the words and letters typed will show up after you actually type, its not smooth at all...
*laughs hard*
I think there might have been a few discussions about this. Yeah, it's an issue. Dolphin or Opera Mini will work better.
So I think I may have a fix for this. I was digging around in the keyboard settings, and noticed that the Tab ships with "Samsung Keyboard" as the default. I switched mine back to the stock Android keyboard, and it's much better. Of course there are a bunch of replacement keyboards you can use as well, but the stock honeycomb keyboard seems much more responsive than the Samsung one.
So far the Android keyboard, Swiftkey, and Swype keyboards haven't made anything better for me.
I've seen some people say disabling OpenGL in the debug settings helps, but they also say it has some other performance side effects. So... I guess I'll be using Opera Mini for a while.
The Bookmarks widget though makes it real easy to use the stock browser bookmarks (synced from my desktop Chrome browser) real easy with Opera though, so I like that.
ya so far swype is tne worst. But problem ive been having is if i type too fast the keyboard suddenly closes and im constantly having to reopen it.... Its fuggin annoying.
I've been using thumb keyboard and no lag. Its able to keep up with me
i really don't think its keyboard related
I'm using stock hc keyboard
Divineblue try doing a quick reply here on ur tab and you'll see the lag
Its fine in Google search and mobile sites but just des on desktop sites like facebook etc
lag disappears in opera mini but its a slow loading browser and I can tell decreases page quality, also can't get facebook desktop to load, no user agent option
so the hc browser really sucks then and ia behind this text lag
Is this lag a general problem with HC? Do you guys think that it will be fixed?
I got this tab on friday I love it so far but this text entry lag is driving me insane.

I use the thumb keyboard and stock browser. It lags like crazy, no different than using any other keyboard.
Has this been reported to Google?
Because of this issue alone, I postponed my purchase of any Android tablet
Web browsing accounts the most for my usage pattern. And I really hate any slow down for doing it.
See if this is fixed in the upcoming Android 3.2 (if it made to GTab) ... or hopefully ICS.
Is it at all lack of power from the Tegra or is it a glitch./-/
I bet on problem with Android Honeycomb.
It is really strange if Tegra does not have enough power on this!
We have a lot of Tegra phones and they don't have this issue. Sure, this is different OS, but that should show about "power".
Probably we need to wait for Android tablet Honeycomb that does not using Tegra.
And see if the problem still there.

lol its definitely not the tegra 2. Its honeycomb, this one is all google's fault. Kind of sad that google brags about their browser being the fastest than other browser and yet the honeycomb browser can't even handle text entry.

The laggy text in the browser is total fail

Does 3.2 fix the typing lag/blue highlight when typing text in a text box?

Subject says it all. I have owned the Xoom with 3.0, the Asus TF with 3.1, and the Samsung GT 10.1 with 3.1. all suffer from horrific keyboard lag when typing in form boxes, as well as the text being highlighted in blue when typing (which many people believe to be related). It is very apparently when typing a post here at XDA.
The issue has been completely fixed in Samsung's Touchwiz ROM for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. I believe the fix is in the framework or the webkit rendering engine (not the browser.apk itself), because third party browsers like Dolphin Pad also have the issue fixed in Touchwiz (and in stock honeycomb 3.1, dolphin DOES have the typing lag/blue highlights).
I'm trying to figure out if this is something that Samsung fixed themselves, or if they maybe got early access to some new new google code, possibly pre3.2 stuff. So my question to you Xoom folks is, is the typing lag and blue highlights still in 3.2, or is it gone?
Thanks.

Well, maybe it's fixed, or maybe I never did experience that terrible lag (or only a couple of times). I rarely use the stock browser. I usually use Dolphin HD and don't have problems with it.
I don't use the XDA app though...I always use the browser...don't know for sure, but people have complained about the xda app itself, so maybe that's the problem.
I still see it sometimes with the deodexed stock 3.2 ROM using the default Browser, but not too often.
This has been a problem inherent in android at least going all the way back to Froyo (when I started with AnOs) but I assume it has always been there.
It can be unbelievably bad especially when trying to move the curser only to find that it consistently appears on another line many words away from where you are tapping. And all the people who I personally know using android have experienced this at least once in their use (some are new users).
I hate beat the dead horse, especially because I am an android user, but this is the kind of thing a person would be publicly executed for at Apple or least get off easy by only losing their job.
If it is actually fixed I will be very happy, at the same time I feel like why should we have to applaud a painfully slow departure from incompetence.
Unfortunately Google's "2.0" is what other people call "beta".

First Impressions of a new 10.1 owner.

Just got a new 10.1 yesterday and gave myself a day to see how much I like it. Speed is always a big deal for me. Im actually typing from the tab now. The keyboard isnt too bad, but I dont see a autocorrection so far, but have not looked into it. The speed of the Touchwiz and homescreens is much better than most had me believe. I dont have any lag between the tapping of the arrow and the animation to show the quick apps.
The tablet also came fully updated, as far as the tablet shows through the update wizard. I will eventually check up the dev section and make sure I have the latest update today or tomorrow. The touchscreen does show a bit of lag as far as drawing with the fingers but isnt too bad and rougly on course with the A100 from Acer, my previous tablet. Battery is also great, and came 50% charged when I bought it, and didnt drop below 40% for the 4 hours I had used it before throwing it on the charger and watching some youtube and netflix.
Anyways, that was a quick review, and I love the tablet as of right now, when I thought the Tw UX was going to be a pain, but hasshown to be opposite and not too bad.
Thanks,
Mike
I just ordered one of these. I dunno if I'll get it since the contract was too good to be true. Nonetheless, if it get it, it'll be a worthy successor to my übermodified ZTE Light.

Thanks all forth replies. I havebthe thumb keyboard already, but don't need a new launcher or anything yet, since the stock is working perfect. The next next thing I'm waiting on is the ics update in the coming months. I do plan to root this soon, but won't use an ics Rom since I use the cameras often. I may throw Task or overcome on this instead while I wait. Overall a very good tablet, and the detail is amazing as far as the resolution and everything else goes.

Thumb Keyboard ROCKS and so does HD Widgets and Reader HD..

If you are on HC 3.2 you are alright, but if still on 3.1 I'd news astonished if you liked the touch wiz. It its just horrible. ADW EX its the lightest and the most heavily customisable. The most appealing is spb 3d. It its amazing but uses more ram.
However congrats for your new tab and hope you enjoy it;-)

Ok so for those that have been able to upgrade to ICS (P6800 owners) what are your toughts?
Now this is what i am looking for:
A) What you like
B) Don't like
C) What would you like to have seen included but wasn't (if anything)
And since having the update what are you looking forward to doing that you couldn't or wouldn't with HC.
Please don't post any issues you have after updating, that is not what this post is intended for.

Well i don't think that i don't like anything but i haven't really found something that is faulty. It is definitely faster as i immediately noticed that it took less ram, than honey comb, to run. Feels pretty fast with go launcher HD to me and i love it completely. Although i thought that there would be camera improvements as tab 2 7.0 has the same 3 mega pixel camera but does 1080p recording. So i thought that it might be done with tab 7.7 as well with an ics upgrade.

Well I love it to and made it up with Samsung:
- first with ICS that tablet really rocks it already did but now it's almost perfect
- smoother faster it seems especially the OOM killer seems more smart, and less memory used it seems
- no more problem with Itap rdp right click with bt mouse
- something I never mentioned. : I developed or try to develop a clone of pronto remote and debug using adb wireless
With HC I could not connect via adb on the computer using ethernet to adb wireless wifi due to packet loss... So had to disable ethernet and enable wifi. With ics no longer this issue...
- I used to have frequent sleep of death for the moment none
- I listen radio everyday through tunein somehow at around 1pm HC always rebooted by itself. Never bothered to figure out why... Now this no longer happen...
- no wifi issue ( some ICS user reported problems). I never had neither with HC except sleep of death or reboot that might be related to wifi?. I use Friztbox 7340 AP.
- my 100+ aps. Seems to all works (of course did not test deeply since yesterday) except gmd gesture control to hide the control bar
-once in a while but quite frequently using HC my EXCHANGE account would vanish...had to re-create every time... waiting to see on this one...Could be my remote application leaking....
So all in all very very happy with this tab and Samsung... Patience was what I missed
- I did wipe and did not have any problem if we refer to brick bug... But you never know...
What I like less
- dialog box theme gray without frame around
- it seems Samy addressed bur-in doing the bar black now....
I preferred it before and I don't have noticeable burn-in ( since march and extensive uses) except using color filter and brightness turned all down then I see slight yellow discoloration... Nothing to complain for me as the TAB HW screen etc are just so great IMO and outweight for me this small detail.
Seriously the TAB rocks for me...
Can you imagine 7.7 with quad core and dream about a 1080p SAMOLED display in a 7'7 TAB for me the perfect size!
I guess I continue buying Samsung.... Despite some of my previous comments... Waiting for the ICS on 8.9 now for my girl friend
Thanks and cheers
A now happy again Samsun tab 7.7 user

My first impression
i installed the firmware through odin. it was not available on kies. so if i have to claim warranty ( god forbid ) then i guess i have to flash my country's HC firmware back
what i liked is that it is noticibly faster than HC. Apps load faster. lag is less. starting button lag is less. there have been no FC's and almost all of my games are compatible.
what i dislike or rather disappointed is that it does not look or feel much different than HC. no added functionality except Face unlock. what i would have liked is some features of S3.
i am running this for almost 24 hrs now. battery usage is same as HC.
I like that this device is actually usable now. I think I'm going to use it as my main tablet now. I didn't use it with HC because it was just so slow compared to my gt8.9 (running ICS rom).
My first impression: TouchWiz seems much smoother, Go Launcher HD feels the same. Under heavy usage of widgets TouchWiz is still great but Go Launcher HD not. I do love some Go Launcher features so I played around a lot and also tested the new 1.11 beta. But is still less responsive.
It's like a faulty motherboard replaced by a newer and faster one.
Seriously, like a new device, snappy, responsive, seems less battery hungry.
There is one 'custom rom" available, where EDaN has deodexed and removed some bloatware. I took that rom and took out everything social, photo and video editor, and some other minor crap.
Having 60 apps installed and tested it's like Christmas.
- dislike
had to discover I must install busybox to get Titanium working
had to install supersu myself, no biggy
no software based CWM, havent found compatible one, but one thats reboots to recovery anyway.
No powermenu at powerbutton
ugly blueish tint around quickmenu (with shortcuts for bt.wifi etc)
This all will be fixed when chefs get source or get impatient and offer CWM zips
Chainfire3d night mode seems to be not working...
Sent from my GT-P6800 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
my only gripe so far is that if you increase the font size to Large, some apps (mostly system apps) seem to have the font go to 'super large' e.g. google play, settings menu, whilst some apps its perfect.
Conversely, going down to medium, most apps are back to Honeycomb tiny font problem, whilst the system apps are fine
Seems like Sammy tweaked the touchwiz stock UI to display fine on medium size, without thinking that 'hey most apps the user will be using needs it set to large hmmmm'. Hoping AOSP ROMs will get around this issue
The tab is more responsive overall. Feels like a new device. But still not loving touchwiz--wish this is a pure Google device. Installing Nova Launcher partially fixes that. Only app not working out well so far is Battery Monitor Widget Pro--the mA usage keeps showing "0". Just about everything else survived the upgrade with no issues.
Add: mA information in Battery monitor widget works is set to "estimation" rather than automatic. So that problem is solved...
I never used tw always adw launcher ex on this device, everything is smoother with ics now we just need some custom roms and kernels so it can catch up to my galaxy note and asus prime

I'm truly loving this tab with ICS. One huge problem is with my WiFi. I experienced once again as it just disconnected and never connected again until I shut it down completely and turned it back on. It's good stuff!
First: Hotmail seems to be staying put. Had big bothers with this as account would dissapear from tab. Seems to be fixed now, but need more time.
Second: SD Card behaving. Sweet.
Third: No waiting around for unlock screen to pop up when power button pressed. WTF was that anyway?
Fourth: Swype behaving itself. Kept on getting beeps before, and i would have to change to Samkey and back to swype. One crash so far in google translate.
Fifth: Browser no longer reloading all the time to homepage. seems more stable.
Sixth: Youtube actually responds when choosing a vid. If you hit back before and chose another, it was no longer responsive.
Seventh: AR much more responsive. 1sec response time. instead of 3-4. Overall response time much boosted. Has crossed the line from WTF? to hey... Sweet!
0'ed: Sammy did our super bloody expensive tab first. THANK YOU!
PS: flashed XL4 (United Arab Emirates) with Austrian version.(ODIN 1.85) Not a problem. Did Full Reset before flashing though. All went smooth. Im a very happy camper! Hope i could help.

JB for the N8000 is as close to flawless an update as I've ever seen. It adds a ton of new features and improves a lot of the existing ones. It improves performance too. The keyboard issue was a one time event that happened right after I updated. There's absolutely no benefit of staying on ICS.

yeah but how many apps do you have installed on your tablet for it to preform that smoothly? i'm not taking my chances because my xoom is now a useless paperweight, i don't want my note ending up the same way.

Over 100 apps and 30 home screen widgets. Most of us that have the N8000 have been on JB for quite some time. If there were issues they'd have been reported.
I had lag but realised it was only when using Chrome. Using the stock browser now everything is fine.

yeah tell me about it, i use firefox now, i still have to put up with the lag in the os but at least i don't have to put up with chrome anymore.
anyways if i do take chances with my note is there anyway to roll back the firmware to ICS if i get any problems?
i have roughly 82 apps installed on this xoom and that's far less than what is installed on your note and it's completely unresponsive, i have 2 pages of widgets installed on the xoom that is impressive if your note is not lagging at all, does it lag or freeze when you type? can you type fast and edit sentences without lag? what about the process button? can you swipe away processes without it freezing? can you unlock your note lockscreen without lockup? sorry for all the questions, i just want to make sure i make the right decision to install jellybean on my new tablet or not.

Why are you making such a big deal out of this? Dozens of N8000 owners have been on JB without issue for weeks. It sucks that you had issues with Motorola but that doesn't mean that every device you use in the future will have issues when updated. I have more apps and widgets than you and haven't had a single issue with JB other than the one time event of having to reinstall the language for handwriting and clear cache and data on the Samsung keyboard. Both took all of two minutes. After using JB no one could pay me to go back to ICS on the Note. What you do or don't do is your business and I'm only posting this so that your comments don't freak other people out.

I did experience same way ... keyboard lagging but actually JB UK version is better than german version ... less keyboard lagging ...
but I decide to back to ICS ... keyboard typing is very responsive ...
To back to ICS is easy ... you just need re flash again with ICS Rom via odin ... some time /not alwayas after re flash back to ICS .. it will hang at Samsung logo ... :fingers-crossed: but don't worry ... just go to "Recovery system Mode" press power + down button and "wipe data/factory reset" and reboot ... and every thing will be fine ... back to ICS
still need help?
Hey. I dunno if this has been said but it takes time to read. I have also had this problem before and got the same problem again after a factory reset. Couldnt remember how I fixed it but checked the setting a bit and found a solution that at least works on the GN.
First enable developer options in the settings (to do this go into "About Phone" under settings and tap model number till its activated). Go into developer options and check the box for "Force GPU rendering". After that your keyboard should be smooth again. Fast typing is too much for the CPU? Anyways, hope this fixes your problem.
