What do you want to see if HTC bring out a hardware keyboard phone? Also names and any news.
Personal I would want qHD screen, terga 3 CPU, + GPU, 4G, sense/ics 4.0?, better speakers, 1900 mha battery, 16GB on broad memory, 2GB RAM,

QWERTY keyboard phones are unfortunately out of style nowadays. Moto Droid/Milestone is pretty much the only keyboard phone series with modern specs available at least over here. Samsung Captivate Glide seems intriguing with its dual core CPU and AMOLED display but it's US only.
If you are really looking for Sense, it's unfortunate that there are no rumors or leaks or anything about a HTC QWERTY flagship.

That's not true. There clearly are people out there eagerly waiting for new QWERTY-phones, otherwise e.g. Sony Ericsson wouldn't sell Xperia pro and Mini pro etc. Nokia has released a few phones with QWERTY keyboard and as you said Motorola has Droids too.
Does anyone know how many Visions has been sold? HTC has always made qwerty-phones, I can't see any reason why they should stop now.
A QWERTY Nexus would be nice - death to Sense. When I owned a Desire Z rooting and going to an AOSP Gingerbread DOUBLED my battery life.

I would like to see more internal memory, better speakers, a better screen and I would like to see them keep the touch sensitive "trackball" button at the bottom of the phone!
to me, the only thing that matters is to make the soft buttons as hardware buttons, not the irritating touch

I'd love a 1080p screen, gorilla glass, tegra 3, 64gb internal, ICS of course, 4G, an INSANE camera, and no matter the mah a battery to hold it all together for 14+ hours at heavy use.
But that's just me.
let me not forget to say vanilla android!

4.0" 720p screen, Qualcomm krait + adreno 225, pentaband 3g, AOSP ICS, 2GB ram, 16GB ROM + SD card, 5 row QWERTY with directional keys or D-pad, dedicated camera button, metal back cover with release lever.
hey, I can dream right?
I want an HTC device, built as solid and of as good quality as this one with updated Rezound like features. Not going to happen though, HTC has successfully grabbed a large portion of the market due to their past quality and has since shifted from quality to quantity.

It's not my personal opinion, just look at the current phone market with slates everywhere. For one, I'd love a powerful QWERTY smartphone to replace my current primary phone GSII, which was by the way the first non-keyboard one.

Aren't most of these are mid-range phones with the exception of Droid?
At least I'm not the only one that feels a bit lonely out here.
Android phones are being pumped out by the dozen, but there are very few QWERTY phones in the mix. I could probably count them all on one hand. Everyone uses either a GSM or CDMA network, so your options are halved right there as well
The only quality phones I have seen maybe worth trading my G2 in for, are the MyTouch 4G Slide and the Samsung Captivate Glide.
But they are still fairly new phones with no CM support yet....

If that's what you want, then the 4G Slide is your only option. It's one of the only phones that still retains hardware keys.
I actually prefer hardware keys as well. But the 4G Slide wasn't out at the time, and I needed a little more horsepower than the 3G Slide I was carrying...
Damnit! this is just wishful thinking lol! I thought there was some news of the G3/Desire Super Z or something Didn't we already have a wish list thread for the next big HTC qwerty model?
I do wonder about when it will happen. In tech terms, our great Desire Z/G2 is extremely antiquated. It does seem to be taking too long but the same happened with the G1. The only decent option I've seen is the MT4GS and that only a US model. Can't really compare a Samsung model because they are junk compared to their flagship models like the Galaxy line.
Even those... I'm hardly interested in those. Lack of led for battery/notifications, trackpad/ball, and plastic-ish build is too much for me to consider. Plus, even though I'm in the US, the MT4GS have literally 5 pages in the development section and has little dev support. All this is starting to get me worried! I don't think I can hold up much longer without a new phone lol! It's been way too long! I LOVE my G2 still but would love a dual core model with MORE RAM and stuff. Sino8r is getting anxious!
Plus, y'all are forgetting the Samsung Captivate Glide is only on AT&T in the US. That means no 3G. Stupid US carriers and billions of different frequencies.
It will be very interesting to see where all the G2 owners go when they need a new device. But as long as the dev scene is still hot here, I see no real reason to leave just yet. IF the 4G Slide starts to pick up once ICS is released, then I may consider it.
It's remarkable, the prices for that phone have already dropped as well to $250. Waiting for it to get around the $200 mark, and then I'll bite.
BTW, anyone looking for the absolute best value QWERTY phone, you can pick up a brand new 3G Slide from eBay for $140. And if you go through auctions, you can get it for less than that. Astonishing, considering G1 phones are going for just $30 less. Obviously all without contract.
(PS, this is not an advertisement or plug. Just a suggestion)
The droid 4 looks promising. Really love the design and the idea of a back lit keyboard. Just hoping that they will have GSM bands with the phone. Fingers crossed!

I was just about to mention that. Remap the Genius button into Search, flash one of undeadk9's "Sense lite" ROMs (posted on RootzWiki), flash unity's overclock kernel, buy an Anker 1900mAh battery or two, and this phone is a BEAST.

I would much rather have the Epic without the keyboard. When I switched from my mogul to my hero I thought dropping a keyboard would be hard, but it wasn't. Also the Galaxy S is SUPER thin, about as thin as the Iphone 4.
Anyone else on the same boat?
If they don't get the Galaxy S I'd probably just go with the epic.
For those wondering the Galaxy S has no keyboard (like the tmobile vibrant, it's also under 10mm thin) the Galaxy S pro (which is the Epic 4g has a keyboard).
Perhaps you can get the Verizon version working on Sprint. I've read that the retail on these devices is below $500.
But honestly, even if you do not use the keyboard, the added thickness is not that bad. This coming from a person who has a TouchPro2 and never used the physical keyboard.

You're right, it's way better, full qwerty for those who want it, swype still installed for those who don't, 4G radio and a flash, yet still slim enough to contend with the likes of the Evo and such, oh wait who on earth wants anything OTHER than an Epic? lol

Ignore the hardware keyboard as I'm going to do and you have an Evo on steroids with a gorgeous screen. I don't do hardware keyboards either, but thick? It's about a quarter fingernail thicker than an Evo and 3x the phone the Evo will ever be without the help of any developer (you can't patch hardware). With custom ROMs this phone has the potencial to be the best "superphone" in the game until well into the end of the year and looking at how fast the smartphone market is moving that's saying alot.
Display-wise, this is going to be king of the hill until someone figures out how to get a Retina-quality IPS display on their phones. I would take Retina over Super AMOLED, but Samsung has a monopoly on Super AMOLED for quite a while into the future, and hteir phones are going to be the only ones that have it. I don't know if any other company is going to be able to get an IPS LCD that is as good as Apples while also being 4+" in size. For one thing, they will be very expensive and will probably experience shortages as all the different manufacturers clamor for them.
As for the CPU, the GS might get beat in the Spring, but not before then, and these processors are going to be pretty power hungry and more expensive to manufacture.
A new "superphone" with a 4" 300dpi IPS display and a dual core snapdragon will be big, expensive and power hungry. Basically, not something I would want to buy.
I am curious to see whether 28nm phone processors will be available by next summer, and whether Apple will be able to use one in the next iPhone. Something tells me they will just use another 45nm CPU and not bother to upgrade their A4 much at all.
Edit: Global Foundries will probably not be manufacturing at 28nm until 2012, which probably means that I am right about Apple not doing much with the next iPhone CPU.
Or maybe not. TSMC is supposed to be shipping 28nm right about now, designed for mobile applications.

You're right that's why I returned my Evo it's much longer and wider than the Galaxy S is thicker than the Evo, just didn't feel good in the hand that's partially the reason I returned my Evo, well that compounded with the Evo's bad hardware.
The keyboard is the best part for me. I can't wait.
Should i buy a Htc DesireZ / G2 or wait for a phone with qwerty kbd and dual core like Snapdragon/Tegra2 ?
Is it really worth to buy a G2, or phones like i mentioned will take time to appear in the market ?

It depends on what you currently have, but the g2 is a good pick if you're coming from a much older device.
Up to you really. I personally just upgraded to the DZ/G2 and it's looking and feeling great. A HUGE upgrade from my previous HTC Hero with a faster CPU and RAM and all that junk.
If you really did want to wait tho, I do believe that the newer dual core/Tegra2 phones are set to be released later this year (summer/fall) so if you can hold out till then, you can pick up one of the newer ones.
Alot of people are saying the DZ/G2 is "dated" but it really isn't. It's able to keep up with my brothers DHD once it was overclocked to 1GHz and easily surpassed his stock DHD once I tried over 1GHz on the clock speed.
If you're not that finicky about hardware, the DZ/G2 is a solid choice. Easily be able to last you 2 years before the really good quad core/tegra4 phones get released
EDIT: Here's a partial list of upcoming phones with Android: http://www.611connect.com/blog/merben-upcoming-android-smartphones-2011
Regards.
I have a Touch Pro2, and want a native Android handset with qwerty kbd and fast performance.
I also want hi-res (800*480) and at least a 3.5" screen, which provides good readability without zooming and lots of content on-screen.
And the Z/G2 is the only phone that suits my prefs right now...
Sent from my FROYO X RED using XDA App
Coming from the Touch Pro 2 (like I did), and get the DZ/G2, you will wonder why you even questioned the purchase. Its so far ahead of your old WM phone, its going to knock you on your rear in terms of speed, smoothness, and stability. The DZ is the best phone around with a hardware keyboard.
Doesn't seem like there will be a better HTC phone with keyboard coming out anytime soon. And I'd only buy a phone like this (with keyboard) from HTC. The other manufacturers just can't seem to get hardware keyboards right. And this is all assuming your local carrier (or phones compatible with your carrier) will be released on a timely basis.
Obviously, the treadmill of technology guarantees that something better is always on the way. But if you go 6 months or even a year without regretting your purchase (wishing you had waited), you've done just great. And my instinct is that this will be the case.

I reckon Redpoint has hit the nail on the head here. Considering the 2year gap between the G1 -> G2, i'd be v-suprised if there was a worthy successor (from HTC) within the next 9 months or so.
So it depends on how long you are willing to make do with your current handset.
I'm in a similar situation, my only concern is that I buy the DZ and then a HTC Merge variant becomes available in Europe (3.8" screen, no trackpad)
That's right, new model replaces old one usually in a year time basis...
HTC DESIRE Z is an excellent choice, and you won't regret it.
This claim comes from someone who changed this year only following devices:
- PALM PRE
- HTC HD2
- SAMSUNG B7330 OMNIA PRO
- SAMSUNG WAVE
- SAMSUNG GALAXY S
- and now last two months HTC DESIRE Z...
@ gerryr what do you have against opt.trackpad?
It is very useful when moving cursor in any text entry related app...

You're holding out for a tenth of an inch screen size difference? And as already mentioned, the trackpad can be very handy for moving the cursor accurately between text characters.
It would seem very odd for HTC to make a Euro GSM variant of the Merge, basically making it back into a Desire Z (as the specs are almost exactly the same between the DZ and the Merge), which is already widely available in Europe. But who knows, cell phone companies do weird/unexpected things all the time.
I only remember using the optical track on the desire a handful of times, really don't think it's needed.
I take your point though, doubtful they'll release it in Europe given the similarities of the rest of the spec

I hear ya. Many people on here have mentioned that they find the trackpad useless. But for me, I find it useful, particularly correcting text in SMS or email. I can't place the cursor with single character precision using the touchscreen.
Its also nice if you switch to CM7, or otherwise mod the phone for trackpad button wake. I press the trackpad to wake just about every
time I use my phone now.
You mean there are people that actually DONT use trackpad to wake their device but instead reach for the top right corner?
Trackpad wake for the win.. I'd go nuts if I had to use the actual power button all the time =[

Not sure if it works for CM7, but here's a link you can try

I have a G2 and its a terrific phone. The trackpad is basically only my power button since text selection in gingerbread is... well there actually is text selection.
If your phone isn't on fire though I would suggest waiting because there is going to be a wave of dual core awesome coming out this summer so you might as well wait for the next train instead of jumping on the one leaving the station.
I have a myTouch 4G and even though dual cores are around the corner I won't regret this buy. G2 and MT4G's are so quick as it is, I don't really need a dual core. Apps open in an instant and multi tasking is as quick as can be. I say if you just need a new phone now because you can't handle your old slow phone then go ahead and upgrade. The G2 is a very solid phone.
Only hold out for a dual core if you plan on doing some heavy gaming with high graphics. But other than that, go grab a G2.

Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input, and you will see an option for Trackpad wake under "Buttons".
If you want trackpad unlock (not just wake) you can go to Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Lockscreen>Unlock options. But this seems like an easy way to accidentally unlock your phone while in your pocket.

Dualcore phones are coming out, but OP was specific about a hardware keyboard. Nothing like that has been announced from HTC yet, so it will likely be some time (has HTCeven announced any dual core phones yet?). So I'm betting it will be at least fall, if not later, before a HTC phone with a comparable form factor to the Vision (but dual core) is released. And frankly for the most part, I don't care about any other manufacturers besides HTC. They always tend to have some combination of cheap housings, poor developer support, and crappy keyboards.

Consider it an evil of the technology treadmill. A newer product is typically going to be faster and better than an older one (unless the manufacturer really screwed up!). You'll drive yourself crazy envying every new phone that comes along that is newer than what you have. So unless you have wads of cash to buy every nice looking phone that comes out, most of us have to make a decision based on the choices you have at the time you want to upgrade, and live with it until you can afford the next upgrade. No doubt, even if you bought a Galxy S2, you would end up salivating the next "latest and greatest" in a few months. Appreciate the fact that you have a nice performing, solidly built phone with a hardware keyboard, that has (and will continue to have, for some time) great developer support.
Ya my roommate just got the g2x and now I hate my phone.

I had an HD2 for ages, an S2 for a few days (then sold it because I could make £160 profit on e-bay due to people paying silly prices!), now I've just ordered a desire Z to give it a go (£263.39 on ebuyer inc VAT)!
Though the S2 was nice & the HD2 does the job, I'm now much more excited about having a hardware keyboard than anything the S2 had to offer!
Unless you dislike hardware keyboards, I agree there's no point having phone envy yet - the S2 does nothing that the HD2/Desire Z can do; it just does things more smoothly!
I would agree that there are phones out there that might be 'prettier' and provide some 'eye candy' but I don't think I would trade my DZ for any other device out there right now.
I too cannot live without a hardware keyboard and the DZ has one of the best keyboards I have ever used. It took some getting used to because of its size, but after that initial period, a keyboard has never felt better in my hands.
And while it may not have the fastest Dual Core Processor on the market, I have yet to find any set of tasks that my DZ can't handle. Throw in the unlocked bootloader and arguably the best developer support of any Android Device and you have a recipe for a long-lasting, competitive smartphone.
I won't even consider upgrading until we get a phone that looks like a 'G3'...
i work at best buy and i see this same situation almost everyday. technology is a love hate thing. you just have to realize that its going to be constantly changing, and getting better. lets not forget that the vision is still a highend phone, and kicks alot of phones asses. i love my g2, but i do see myself getting a htc sensation. ive come to realize that although the kb on the vision is amazing, its not something i have to have. the vision is a great phone, along with the desire hd, nexus s, mytouch 4g and all of the phones that came out the same time this one did. its awesome. you just have to realize that if it does what you want with no problem, then why hate?

I'd have to disagree with the fact the Vision is high end any more. On release yes, but 6mths down the road it's only just mid-range in pretty much all areas EXCEPT the keyboard. Single core chip (albeit a reasonable one), 512mb RAM (really? The DHD had 768mb), an average 5mp camera...
I think we make a lot of excuses for this phone, just to have the keyboard. I had to think long and hard about keeping my second one because of the questionable z-hinge, and decided that I'd have to live with it since there were no other qwertys coming out (except the Droid 2/Milestone 2 which is a no-no with encrypted bootloader).
I hate the weight of the thing, I hate the battery life (which although better than my old Desire, is still pretty poor as I work in a weak 3G area), I hate the fact I struggle to see the screen in the sunlight, I hate the sh*t-arse weak speaker which struggles to get above one decibel without distorting, and I hate the fact that HTC always cheap out on cameras, the video-recording is crap.
People come to me at work and ask what phone they should buy cos I'm kind of that guy who knows a little bit. And they've all seen the recent HTC marketing campaign here in the UK, they're like "Oh you have an HTC, do you think I should get this HTC (model)?" And I find myself saying "No, get this Samsung, or get this iPhone, they have better features that you would get use out of".
I know I'm not at the point where I want to give up the awesome dev support that HTC phones usually get, but I am at the point where I hope devs start supporting other brands a lot more too. Especially in light of HTCs locking of bootloaders, and the fact it's getting harder and harder to get full access to them. HTC has the big rep as the hacker's choice, but I don't think their hardware justifies it any more. Not at the moment at least.
Don't get me wrong, there is no other phone I'd rather have at the moment, since one doesn't exist. And the rom I'm on is frigging amazing. But if Samsung bring out an S2 with a keyboard then I'd have a heard time saying no to that, as would a lot of other people I imagine. I never thought I'd consider a Samsung after last year's update debacle, and I'm still hesitant now. But if enough devs get one, then they would sort out any probs the phone has.
OK, rant over!
I just watched an unboxing of the HTC Sensation coming to Tmobile ... GODDAMN .. that is a thing of beauty..

I know my phone is good and dev support is GREAT, which will allow it a decent enough lifespan for some time to come.
But I just wish someone would put out a super-phone WITH A DAMN KEYBOARD!! I don't care what it would cost to buy, I would buy it. Sure this phone can be OC'd quite nicely, but with the weak mono speaker, average camera and video, screen which is rubbish in direct sunlight, etc. it's not really my dream hardware :-/
Here's hoping the next Nexus comes with with a keyboard, dual (or quad!) core, a gig of ram and decent multimedia components!!

While this is true and all, I still think our phones are the best overall hardware for someone who needs a physical keyboard like myself. There are plenty of physical keyboard models out there (not as many as touch only of course), and there is still yet one to come out with better overall specs than this phone.

Yep, and that's the BIGGEST problem with Samsuck. They tend to make pretty incredible hardware (minus the vibrant, who the heck makes a camera without a flash nowadays?), but their support is absolutely abysmal. A friend here at work has an Epic 4G, and he's STILL on Eclair. Absolutely unacceptable support.
I'm looking to buy a g2.
Firstly, Is there anything that I should look for? Are there specific versions that are easier to root than others/ harder to brick? (I'm coming from a vibrant and they made a bad batch of those that couldn't get into the recovery, so I want to know if there are any similar issues to be wary of)
Second, do you long time owners recommend the G2? Is it a good phone or should I wait for something else/go for a mt4gs?
Thanks in advance.

well if you buy one that is running froyo instead of gingerbread, it will be easier root. i would also say if ur looking for a android qwerty slider, then i recommend the droid 3, but if you can get past the uglyness of the mt4gs then thats not a bad option either. the dz is getting pretty old now

Stuck on t-mobile . Idk if I could live with sense on the mt4gs to be honest, and it seems like CM7 isn't coming to it anytime soon.
I think I might just tough it out with my vibrant.
You're arriving kinda late to the game, aren't you? The G2 has been end-of-life'd if I remember correctly.
But it looks like you're in luck as T-Mo is about to drop the price on the G2.

G2 is a good buy get it wit Froyo n ur good to go everyday I enjoy it rooted 2.3.5 and long as u flash different roms n boot animation wit music everyday is like X-Mas. I turned my G2 to a Monster. I even snatched sum of the new Bionic stuff onto my G2 now n my boy with the new Bionic is jealous. Listen this Bad boy was built to modify n customize I can't see u nt liking it.

G2 is a robust, highly customizable phone. I highly recommend it.

Its a solid phone. But as others have mentioned, its getting pretty old. Getting close to a year old, which is ancient in smartphone terms. Unless you get a real good deal on one, or a hardware keyboard is an absolute necessity (G2/Desire Z is still probably the best around with a keyboard), I would spend my money on something with more current specs (CPU, memory, etc.).
You might like to know that the HTC Desire Z / T-mobile G2 is very similar to the Desire S.
Difference is that the Z has the qwerty keyboard and the S doesn't.
(Also, the S is stock clocked at 1GHz and Z is only 800MHz, but it is the same chipset so this can be changed with software).
The LCD, touch screen, gadgets and everything is the same.
The S is lighter and slimmer, also looks better.
If you get over the qwerty keyboard you might prefer the S.
The touch screen is very good and I often use it instead of the physical keyboard on my Z.
Also, even though the physical keyboard is good i cant type that fast. Not as fast as on a blackberry (keys are closer together on most blackberrys).
Some people have issues with the hinge and it's hard to replace.
Personally, I would swap my Z for an S right now. But they are both excellent devices and both **** on an iPhone4 for screen quality, call quality and build quality.
Screen is really good for watching videos, colors are so much nicer than on other devices like iPhone4 or Desire HD. It has a noise cancellation mic that makes voice chat sound really good and I have never had a drop out in the 6 months I've had it. It has a metal chassis and is very strong, dropped it plenty of times and it just scratches never breaks. Digitalizer is plastic so won't crack.
2nd hand, you can pick up a Z for about $250 or S for $300 - ish.
OP, really going to have to agree this device is too old at this point. Almost a year old now so I wouldn't buy one unless I got a damn good deal on it used. Plenty of other great phones out there right now.
It is a year old yet still one of the top performing single core phones on the market. If you can get one for $200 or less with no contract bs then I would say go for it. This phone still goes on ebay used for $150+
Know that finding a good case is tough with this style of phone....I recommend the otter box personally. Their warranty is top notch as well.
I also recommend doing the spring replacement to tighten up the hinge. Ever since I did that little mod, I have been more than pleased with my G2. I have had mine for 8 months and I can honestly say I could care less about upgrading my phone anytime soon because this phone does everything I need it to do and it does it quick enough for me.

Desire S and Z are not the same chipset. Z has the Snapdragon MSM7230, and the S has the MSM8255. And there is also a big difference in the MHz rating of a CPU, and simply overclocking it.
Also the S has 768 Mb of memory versus 512 Mb on the Z; the S has a 1450 mAh battery versus 1300 mAh on the Z; the S has no trackpad but it does have a front facing camera. Really, there is not that much the same between the two phones besides the screen size.
IMO, the hinge "issue" is totally overblown. The hinge is designed to be easy to open and close with a light touch. Some people don't like it, and its just a personal preference.
Okay, I posted a very similar thread in the Epic 4G section. I don't often come to this forum.
It seems to me that looking at all of the new releases, with the possible exception of the Motorola Droid series (although it seems the Droid Razr is getting more hype than the Droid 3 did, so it may not even count as a flagship), is the era of flagship physical keyboard phones dead?
Noteworthy to me is the fact that other than the Desire Z (and the Desire HD was arguably the flagship of its time, although IMO the Z was a better phone), there have been no new keyboard flagship phones from HTC or Samsung or most of the smaller makers.
What do you think is the future of keyboard phones?
So far all of them seem to be decidedly mid-range devices, not phones that set the bar, so to speak.

Samsungs Captivate Glide looks very promising
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/14/samsung-captivate-glide-and-doubletime-hands-on/
but for now just in the US..
I was a Keyboard Smartphoner from the beginning, but now, I think on the bigger screens its more easier to type fast on a virtual keyboard.
Maybe my next Phone is no more equipped with a hardware keyboard.
first fact for this is the wight and the design.. 180g and 15mm is not so "smart"

I wish it would be more "mainstream", have a 720p screen and LTE support. I'll stick with my Desire Z for now.
i don't get the race to the flattest phone in the world, i would say give some extra fat for all those extremely flatty things and slap bigger battery in them.
Desire Z feels like a phone, i like the way its think, not too thick, and im fine whit the weight, people can't carry 200 grams whit em anymore?
There's Droid 4 coming, 5row qwerty, looks promising, hope they include atleast 1,2Ghz cpu. But at this moment i don't think im going to change to a new phone within a year. Ill hope HTC comes up whit 5 row G3.

I'm not too big on super thin either -idk what's with this trend.
So far mostly mid-range phones - Glide is a midrange; the Galaxy Note or HTC Rezound are more like top-end.
I personally prefer something a little thicker and heavier in my hands ;D
Jokes aside, the heaviness of the phone gives me the feel of a better build quality, as opposed to the cheap feel of the S II, which my gf has. So light it weighs next to nothing...
feels like the wind can just blow it away...
Yes i hate thin light phones! I want a brick phone damn it! Give me a big screen a good keyboard (im thinking G1 style but full width) and a nice thick heavy battery that will last all day. Oh and i want one of them fancy induction chargers built into the case. And a nice creditcard chip thingy.

OMG that would rock my socks. I wonder, is there maybe a proper sized BT keyboard and a case?
Check Adapt ADK-100 Micro Keyboard (Amazon ASIN B003ZWGEW8) saying it's exactly the size of an iPhone 4. this is a comparison with the HD2: images.mobilityminded.com/2010/07/IMG_4444.jpg
Also discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327124
My opinion is riding a subway, bus etc. Qwerty wins. Physical buttons will always be superior and more versatile/precise.
I do think phones are crafted by trends, had the G2 originally been launched with a tighter spring, this phone would have sold like crazy.
Although I'm happy with my phone as I think its funny when I catch people looking at my phone wondering which one it is or why my screen is green.

You seem to have missed the HTC DOUBLESHOT:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones...px?cell-phone=T-Mobile-myTouch-4G-Slide-Black
I moved from the Desire to the Desire Z.
To me, a thin keyboard-less phone like the Desire is like an Aston Martin with a 1 litre engine in it. It may look nice but, it's missing the grunt to really get things done (functionality wise rather than cpu!).
With the Desire Z, I can snap open the keyboard and get far more screen real estate without having to have a software keyboard popping up. I can also do common tasks like copying and pasting faster and easily switch apps with shortcuts. I can pretty much touch type on my phone now, while walking for example without looking down.
Of course, we all know this, I just wish the public would realise the advantages of having a keyboard and then manufacturers would make more of an effort. Maybe if we all lectured friends, we can force a tipping point!

Well and at&t at that. Ugh.
The Glide has already been out in Canada for a couple weeks or so. Although Rogers is just as bad as AT&T probably.
Well, you got me there. Me and my brother enjoy the feel of keyboards on our phones. My G2 came across an lcd problem and my sister got me a G2x, good phone but couldn't enjoy the LG,since I'm an htc guy. Sold it,got a sidekick 4G, didn't like the way samsung made it. Sold that, bought a new LCD, fixed my G2. At the end of the day, I'm a Qwerty keyboard HTC guy. As for my bro, a HTC mytouch guy, he loves the Mytouch Slide 4G. We both came from a G1. I'm praying for the G3. *fingers crossed*

What I'm hoping for in the next year:
1.2 ghz dual core minimum
5 inch screen (4.5 inch minimum)
Qwerty 3-4 row I don't care
Hdmi out
Not samsung (wii controller won't work)
Must have decent battery life, most liekly ill be buying another fat mugen lol
preferred htc but its not really a big deal to me
Don't care about thick or thin
Honestly the desire z handles everything but the screen size and hdmi out want my n64 on the big screen! I'm hoping for gamecube/dreamcast emulators in the next years. These overclocked dual cores can easily handle it.

You couldn't PAY me to use a phone with a 5" screen. Screen ***ABSOLUTELY MUST*** be UNDER 4". Any bigger than that and it isn't a phone -- its a tablet, and no, I'm not interested in holding a tablet up to my head to make a phone call.

Cool, wasn't really asking for anyones opinion. Some people just don't like big phones, I love big phones and surf the internet and play games quite often. I don't wear tight jeans too lol, so 5 inch phones would not really be to big.
