So I bought a HTC HD2 on eBay which wouldn't turn on after a screen replacement for €65. I opened the phone and found out that the flex cable of the keypad is torn.
Now, that clarifies a lot, so now I'm wondering if there is any other way to turn the phone on? Connecting to the computer or plugging in a charger or something? (like iPhone)
Haven't tried that yet, but I assume the seller tried that himself
I don't know if it works with the stock firmware and everything,
but if i take out my battery, connect a power source(AC or USB), and put the battery back in, it starts up.
give it a try.
Even if you will be able to boot into WM, Android or whatever, your phone will be totaly useless without these buttons.
So if it is really due to the keypad flex, just order new one .. for example here http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-HD2-T8585-keypad-key-button-flex-ribbon-cable-parts-/150600904371 or in any dyi china store

Yes of course, but before I buy a new one, I need to find out if thats the only problem.
ATM, I disassembled the phone completely and the volume button is torn aswell :/ and the bluetooth antenna is missing.

Thanks a lot! I got to the maglite boot loader! But without any buttons it's useless I guess?
Well, if you hold the volume down button while you reinsert the battery you get into the bootloader. Then you could flash CLK and CWM.
I'm not sure but I believe that it's possible to flash a rom with the use of fastboot.
If you just flash a ICS rom and enable software buttons or a gingerbread rom with tablet tweaks enabled, you wouldn't need the hardware buttons
But in the end having working hardware buttons is allot more practical.

It already has Android flashed, and I found out that the volume flex cable is torn aswell and the bluetooth antenna isn't there either. Anyways, I'm able to boot into android using the charger-battery method, and unlock is possible with unplugging the charger. I ordered a new keypad and will have a look to solder the volume buttons. I installed SoftKeys to emulate the keyboard, but only the home button works, guess it's not rooted.
So am I able to boot another OS from the SD card without volume buttons?
Nah, you would need to change a setting in MAGLDR.
And i don't believe that's possible without hardware buttons.
Hope you'll fix your HD2, and get it up and running soon. It really is a wonderful phone!
And a happy new year!
Just ordered a new flex cable and bluetooth/wifi antenna.
Total of the phone is now: $123,39 / €99,45.
Guess it's still a good price for a HD2 with a brand new screen
And what would it be worth afterwards?
Damn, I wish I bought this phone at launch, its still a high-end phone in 2011. Kinda same specs as my i4.
Oh, and happy new year to you too and all of you guys
That's a nice deal!
I got mine from a friend for €120,-
There still are some shops that sell new ones for about €400 but that's just silly.
Second hand it'll do about €200,00 if you'll advert it right.

It's happen when i try to flash the 13.29.55.13H_3.35.07.20 Baseband via Recovery. My device is Tattoo A3232.
After reboot there's a Recovery picture so i tried to remove a battery and turn on again but this time it won't boot at all. no Tattoo logo or anything. and then I tried to plug a charger and there's no charging light. and i've plug into computer and no devices found.
I don't have any clue to do now. so i just try to post this before i go to HTC Care. I really hope you guys can solve this one.
UPDATE: they've replaced a new board with the old one. Now my Tattoo is 100% health!
I know this sounds stupid, but what helped when I had a similar problem with my PC (not mobile phone) was the following: removing the power cable, waiting about 10-15 mins and then plugging it in again, then at least it booted again.
maybe if you take out the battery and wait quite a while it will at least show the tattoo logo...else there are different causes for your dilemma: a piece of hardware is now bricked, the phone ROM is damaged, memory completely wiped...don't know what is the cause of your problem - but you should pray that HTC Care will repair your device if nothing else will work
what hapens if you hold volume down button and keep it held while you power it on, you should see spl screen ??
if you do get the white screen with the 3 androids then you are good to flas an IMG file

nope, nothing appear at all. probably like TheSSJ said. I really hope they will claim the phone.
When you were putting the battery in the slot, have you placed it correctly? Please, check your battery and let us know.
and then I tried to plug a charger and there's no charging light

Or when the device is bricked...I don't think the battery was placed incorrectly into the phone...^^
now it's been taking care by HTC Care now. hopefully they'll repair it.
good luck
good luck, i hope you get a good result without any problem because you were flashing at the point of fail.
keep us posted on this, im interested how fair they play in replacing your handset.

UPDATE:
they've replaced a new board with the old one. Now my Tattoo is 100% health! it's came with a new RUU though. 1.67.729.xx i think. not the 1.67.405.6.
and of course I already rooted and flashed fyodor custom room.
@3DPRO: congrates
wanted to install wp7 with a clean start...so tried to task29 (doloop) with 100% success and then my tmo hd2 wont go into bootscreen what ever i do...its stuck for ever in "stick together"...i know there is no os to load...but i dont understand y cant my hd2 go intobootloader
so far i tried
with holding volume down and power key with a single tap
with holding volume down and holding power key
with holding volume down, volume up and power key with a single tap
with holding volume down and reset button
with/without sim
with/without SD
with/without plug in wall charger
with/without plug to pc via usb cable
observations...when i pull out the battery and put it back in and then connect to computer when the phone is still off....the charging indicator LED glows in orange.
when in this mode if i switch the phone on with power/end key....it doent start...i have to pull the usb out, the orange LED still glows...and if i tap the power/end key nothing happenes...i have to pullout the battery to get it to start and eventually get stuck in "stick together"..
would really appriciate if any1 can help me get my hd2 into bootloader screen...
resolved the problem myself.....hd2 is working like a charm....thanks for all your support.
How did you fix it? For other users in this position.

SOLVED {bootloader dont loadArrow}
Here is what I did..
B4 that some background -
I used to heavily try different roms/mods and always played with android sd and nand versions…win 6.5X in multiple cooked version….
So my tmo-hd2 has been formatted/hard reseted/flashed many many times
By virtue of this….my screen died….slowly my screen touch responsiveness malfunctioned and eventually died… all hardware keys were working perfectly by the touch was dead….
During the process of screen malfunction to completely dead….made few observations to not things which might help fellow Hd2 owners…one thing is power/end key seems to be the culprit (this is my observation/belief).
Since I don’t live in US spend 100$ in changing the screen since then everything is working well…I still rig my hd2 like I always do…
Well when the wp7 was released, wanted to give a try…did this…hspl pkg 3 spl 2.08 hspl > then task 29 > and my hd2 didn’t get into bootloader at all…..i was doomed as there hd2 (after task29) didn’t hv os..
Searched for the solution everywhere and eventually nothing worked for me…I was about to give up…suddenly sometime struck my mind…wat if the power/end key is the problem….then things were positive..
I opened up my hd2 (unscrew and removed the back panel) and disconnected the connector flex rigid board (A board) of the hardware keypad from the mainboard….and pushed the battery in and pressed reset (sometime u need to plugin the usb cable to wall charged/pc to wake up the phone) and held volume down key and hopped for some miracle.
Viola saw the tricolor screen after eternity – since the back panel (not backcover) was open I help the battery to the pins and didn’t even move my fingers …run the stock rom installation and held the battery tight in place and waited to get the rom completed…the moment its 100% relaxed my fingers and reconnected the flexboard connector, re-assembled my phone and everything was back to normal…
ONE THING I LEARND FROM THIS…..HD2 IS A ROCKING PHONE AND U CAN RESURRECT IT WHATEVER HAPPENS TO IT (if at all some1 screws it with wrong radio…its officially bricked, but still it can be revived using RIFF JTAG method and rewrite boot data).
One final request pls DON’T GIVEUP ON YOUR DEVISE
Now I have wp7 running successfully and waiting for my activation code for live services

May I link to or rewrite and credit you with this in my guide?
interesting, two confirmations in this thread, and there's another thread where 2/3 people successfully used this method.
That whole lower right area is the Achilles Heel of this phone, keypad, screen connector and most pressed key all right in one little place.
Bring me the chief designers head on a plate!
Yes. The only downfall of the hd2. I wish it had the soft screen keys at the bottom.

yup...and the interesting thing is, i befriended an HTC engineer and got hold of multiple 'a-boards' at that time to test this out.the flex-board that reacts when we push the button.
there were multiple models/molds for HD2...may be different production lines..everything did the same job including the one which was shipped with the device..'a-board' wasnt the culprit here..the very design of having power + end call + device unlock in the same key/button is the issue.
Ok fellas. To make a pretty lng story short.. My beloved Nexus One is dead.. ::sadface::
yes im experienced with rooting and all that.. its jus i cant get to the recovery anymore.. it wont turn on (because the power button issue) and when i do the "battery pull out then back in" trick, it goes to the nexus X and stays there.. ive pulled the battery NUMEROUS times.. it still gets on the X and gets stuck..
im rooted with the new MIUI version..
Anyways, when i hold the track ball, when i do the battery trick, it goes to the bootloader screen.. Well, i cant select anything because, again, of the power button issue lol..
so again, when when i pull out the battery and put it back in, it turns on.. but gets stuck at the nexus X...
there is no way i can get to recovery and do what i need to do...
So my question is this...
i prolly need to buy another phone (like in a couple days) i cant wait months.. or weeks to buy the next best thing.. because the nexus is all i have..
--What phone on the market RIGHT now has the capability or more as the Nexus?? Nexus S? i like it, but its from samsung.. I have T-mobile btw.. Any ideas? thanks guys..
oh and is also rootable.. should i jus go ahead and buy another nexus off craigslist?.. your thoughts...
:EDIT: I know a lot of you are saying that i need to go into adb.. well, i dont think that'll work only becaus i have never used that before =/ i used the "Androot One Click Root" to unlock my phone =/
U can still get the phone in download mode. Just try the JIG. its somewhere there in the forums.

It can still utilize the improved 3G and get practical speeds up to 7.2Mbps..... just like the Nexus One.
towards the end of the "X" screen adb commands work. try "adb reboot recovery" continuously.
If you can hold the trackball and do the battery trick, cant you hold vol down and do it booting straight to recovery?
Vol- does not boot straight to recovery, it takes you to HBOOT, so you still need to use the power button.
You can fix the power button by getting a replacement flex cable from eBay for not a lot of cash.
go out and buy a dell streak. it has a five inch screen and runs android. I've made the switch.
Samsung Nexus S is pure ****. Really. What are all those the features that make the phone cost like a Nexus One when it went in the stores one year ago? I'd go for a dual core phone at least. In case wait for some time and in the mean while take a 50$ phone.
I'm in a similar boat. I use 2 nexi and part them together, but the one with the good power button is starting to have volume button problems.only the mt4g and g2 use tmo 4g at the moment and I'm not interested in either.playstation phone looks interesting, but no 4g either.

You using the new MIUI? Don't worry, I had the same problem, take out the battery and put it back, then press volume-down button and press power button. Just select the "Recovery".
From here, if you have done a previous backup of the working ROM, I suggest flash it back. I only manage to get my NexusOne to load the MIUI rom after I did this.

Same problem. I solve this by:
1. download the kernel separately, and flash the kernel after flash this (MIUI) ROM.
2. reboot the phone.
3. take out the battery while it is showing 'X' and put it back.
4. From there, it starts successfully (after power on).

What part of the power button does not work did you not understand. Unless he can get adb commands to work, he is assed out without a power button. You need a working power button to get into recovery from an off state.

My NexusOne buttons went nuts initially. Take out the battery, and put it back, it will take a bit of time before the phone would boot itself. Just make sure you press the volume-down button 1st, and press the power on button. If you don't, it would stuck at 'X' again.
From here, everything went fine...
Unless TS press the power button too hard until he damaged it, if that is the case, I guess he is too late to read my post.

is there anyway i can change the boot order without my hardkeys ?
or is there anyway i can get it to boot further than magldr without hardkeys??
infuriating to now see it sat there working but not being able to do a darn thing !
can anyone advise me what i should do next? or what i can do.
im contemplating buying spares/repairs hd2, which i can replace the hardkeys / AP FPC ribbon cable.
theres no way i can temporarily repair the ap fpc cable whilst i change boot order to nand is there? :/
no wph
android sd - yes
android nand - yes
volume buttons do work
Nope there's nothing you can do other than to replace them as magldr is programmed that way. Can I ask how you even turn it on without the hardware keys?

ah im not the best, i managed to take it apart to but couldnt get to where you can get the buttons out im pretty heavy handed, didnt trust myself (nor need to at that stage).. but couldnt get the screen off. :/ tips? advice? ordering one now
Hmmm
you should just buy a new HD2
I did the exact same thing. Just bought the replacement ribon cable, and double sided tape. You have to heat up the phone to remove the screen. So u need a heat gun or a blow dryer.

Nice, real slick move,, you can't get into bootloader, yet you still decide to go ahead and wipe the OS, so now you have a non booting phone and no access to bootloader.
That's a handsome if totally useless lump of glass and plastic you have there!
JTAG, or sell for spares. (Well, after trying everything you can think of, but all I can think of is freezer trick, but its a loooooong shot. )

i got it to work. My god there are soo many ppl with this phone soo many threads and post not sure if thats a good or bad thing lol anyways out of all the searching I found this guy to have had the same as me and he solved it. It was impossible for me to ever i mean EVER boot in to the trio color screen or bootloader what ever its called using the hardware buttons even tho the hardware buttons do work. I was able to get into bootloader when comp and phone sync and I used the hspl3 program to boot the phone when it was fully on the win mo stock.
