Okay so my sister got her Xperia.
But she is a Mac user.
So how to update this phone on Mac?
Is there any official app for that on Mac?
The only mac app available from sony ericsson is for media transfer, contacts and calendar she could use Google to sync. Software updates only OTA or on bootcamp.
Edit: The media transfer app is called "sony ericsson bridge for mac".

I have windows installed via bootcamp on my iMac.
The Arc is almost the only thing I use my windows for...
thanks guys, installing Windows on Mac just to use SE is idiotic.....
so SE didn't sort it out? Lol that's ****.
As idiotic as it might sound, I also have installed bootcamped Windows on my mac since I'm a weekly flasher.
But I don't think your sister will flash a lot of FW so maybe she could just use your Windows computer every once in a while, it seems the best solution.
My wife updates her arc without a pc, she gets a message that she has a update and clicks it and she's updated

That would be perfect solution but she lives in UK and I live in Poland.....
Torrent windows 7 and install it on bootcamp. I fail to see how is idiotic. You get the best of both worlds.
Also the ICS update for arc/s will likely not be OTA.

Nevermind, I sorted it out by writing a little shellscript using OpenVPN.

Did you ask Mr. Google before asking here? If you did then you would've seen this: http://code.google.com/p/azilink/
Lazy me... Shame on me... Thanx!

Only downside with azilink is that everyone assumes that you're using it with Ubuntu and either a Nexus One or a Galaxy. For us X10 guys on Arch linux it took some marginal hackage.
I have tried azilink, but it need some modules installed, and im a bit weary as a newb to do this.
Is there any other easy solutions with a rooted x10 and a usb tether to a linux pc? Scripts / apps or whatever? Ive done a lot of googleing, azilink seems to be the most popular for linux. Ive read someone who had the x10 with this built in, and by turning this on, the network manager will auto connect on the user pc end.
Anyone else having trouble mounting their Epic to the Mac running Lion? I just recently upgraded and am no longer to connect. Wondering if its just me.
Same here. Cannot make any connection after upgrade to Lion with epic 4g.
Is lion the new update that just came out. What version is it?

Nah, you have to buy the new OS on the Mac App Store for $30. Great deal in my opinion compared to Windows 7 Prices ($200+ jeezus!)
@Korey, what's 10.7.2? Isn't it the dev release of the new update or something?

I'll start by saying I've been Snow Leopard as long as I've had the Epic.
You trying to connect through a Cinema Display? When I connect my Epic to the monitor (24 inch with 3 usb ports) it never mounts, but if I connect it straight to the MacPro it does. Never been able to figure that one out, but I've found that to be the case. Real PITA because all of the USB ports on the MacPro and both Cinema Displays are used - although one of the ports on the display is used on a handy charging cable for the phone.
That said I've never had trouble mounting on Windows, straight to my PC or through a hub.
I think it's just a problem between Macs and our phone.
Sidenote - sometimes when I connect my Epic to the Cinema Display it causes a freak out and the Mac says a device was trying to draw too much current so it disconnects the hub inside the Cinema display which disconnects all connected peripherals, the webcam, and the speakers until I disconnect the screen's USB cable from the back of the tower and reconnect. Anyone have a clue how to prevent this?

I don't mean an upgrade. I mean the full thing. Yeah some are cheaper, but I mean ones like W7 Ultimate is very pricey

Glad to hear it's not just happening to me. Hoping Apple pushes out an update.
If anyone figures out how to mount their phone please reply in this thread.
Thx!
You guys had any luck getting this working? I have the same issue ... Running Cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire.
Same here as well. although. I noticed the my Mac Book pro that gave with 10.7 doesn't read my epic as a mass storage device. But when I plug it into a friends mac book pro that was upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7 detects mass storage just fine.
I downloaded, and installed a update for Kies, but that didn't seem to do anything either ( i have rebooted yet, will up date this post if it works after a reboot.).
If anyone figures this out please update this thread.
Fix
Shutdown you Mac, boot into safe mode. Press and hold shift key after the chime when you power on your mac. You will know that you're in safe mode because only programs that came with Lion will boot. Fully boot into Lion, then restart back into regular mode. Connect your phone, turn on USB mass storage mode. Should be working now. Apparently the issue has to do with corrupt driver cache.
$30 every year vs. $250 every 5 years, both companies are about the same just one releases quicker and gets ya for small chunks when your not looking
Well that support info i got was wrong because Yesterday Orange Released the update on PC Companion, running it right now and loving it .

I tried to install the Samsung drivers under windows 8 without success. I ended up installing it on a virtual windowsXP machine running under VirtualBox on the win8 machine and it works fine.
I put the phone in download mode and fired up Odin and it recognize the phone.
been on 8 primarily since the dev preview, never had issues. I use the google USB drivers since I'm on ics.

I'm still on Windows XP haha, I meant to upgrade to Win 7 but never did since I can't afford to upgrade my motherboard/cpu/ram/etc. Windows 8 looks promising... but I don't really know how I feel about it looking/feeling like a mobile platform rather than a more 'traditional' desktop feel. Do they let you change it to look like traditional Windows or not?

I tried to install the sdk but it's complaining that it can't find java.exe or the java sdk even though it's installed and jave.exe is right where it says it can't find it. Did you run into anything like that?
EDIT: never mind. I was installing the 64 bit version. the sdk wants to see the 32 bit version.
