Anyone had any succes with tethering on Linux? I'm stuck atm with this phone as my only internet access and it's starting to piss me off.
Cheers

Nevermind, I sorted it out by writing a little shellscript using OpenVPN.

Can you write a brief how-to?

Did you ask Mr. Google before asking here? If you did then you would've seen this: http://code.google.com/p/azilink/

Lazy me... Shame on me... Thanx!

Only downside with azilink is that everyone assumes that you're using it with Ubuntu and either a Nexus One or a Galaxy. For us X10 guys on Arch linux it took some marginal hackage.

I have tried azilink, but it need some modules installed, and im a bit weary as a newb to do this.
Is there any other easy solutions with a rooted x10 and a usb tether to a linux pc? Scripts / apps or whatever? Ive done a lot of googleing, azilink seems to be the most popular for linux. Ive read someone who had the x10 with this built in, and by turning this on, the network manager will auto connect on the user pc end.

New and Easy Wired Tether for Linux {Works on all roms!}

Thanks to Cornbreadfarts for pointing this out to me-It saved my live over the move. over 12GB has moved through my phones data connection over the past 2 weeks or so with this setup.
Heres the original link, but DONT click and start following those instructions, I did and felt like a freakin idiot when i got to the bottom.
http://www.humans-enabled.com/2009/12/how-to-tether-your-verizon-droid-as.html
This is the link you should really be interested in. The writer of that atricle put together an all in one python script that gets everything setup for you. you can find it here
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/394584/Droid-Tether-SV.tgz
Extract it and run
Code:
sudo install_droidtethersv.py
I've used this before a few months back. It is easy to setup. Auto wired tether built into roms make it easier for windows based. Linux isn't too much of a problem. [=

ya. it was really bad for a while. i messed up my sudoers file. rendered me root-access-less on my laptop. meant i could do anything with adb, couldnt run this wired tether...god it was bad.
so i had to re install ubuntu and my laptop uses proprietary drivers for the wifi card...that have to be downloaded from the internet. so wifi tether was out. and i hadnt noticed the all in one script in the beginning so i went through doing it all by hand, incluing having a buddy download all the pre-requisite deb files and put them on an ehd for me...god it was horrible.
then i found the all in one script!
Wired tether is very handy to have. Glad to hear that that you have everything worked out. Keep up the good work. Now if only someone could make a wep cracker app for our wireless card. lol

sharing computers internet with phone?

Yo all!!
ok.. i have been trying to get my phone to connect Via HTC sync V2 and latest V3 but have been told that it will not work as we are not using Sence? (FroydVillain 1.5)
if so... i need a little help....
With HTC Sync (before Froyd..), i could get the phone to use the computers internet.
Is there any way of doing this without Sync?
Cheers all
Simple as that! You have FV 1. 5!!!! Just connect the usb cable and enable tethering under >setting >wireless connection, you can now use wireless or 3G with your pc... ;-)

Im confused why would anyone want to use the computers internet connection on a phone when they are tethered?
I can see wanting your computer to use 3G but not the other way around. Am i missing something something here ?

yes i can see that aps will cost if you've got no data plan with a smart phone, i did have to abort a few auto updates when i was on holiday and being charged roaming rates and now routinely set them to off. If it was me I would look for the apk files from and load them from the sd card or failing that walk the streets looking for an open wifi
had a quick google and found this , hope it help the op

[Q] DDMS Problems

Hey there I looked around and couldn't find anything specific to my problem without there being a twist so I figured I would start my own thread.
I have a fascinate that I'm trying to take screenshots with. I'm on Windows Vista 64bit. I've done the drivers, sdk, usb debugging, java, blah blah but when I open up DDMS my phone isn't there. My phone DOES connect to the computer to where I can upload/down files, music, pictures etc and works perfectly BUT it won't show up in DDMS what so ever.
Any clue?
I had this same problem a few weeks ago and downloading the 32bit drivers also fixed it

Just tried it and no luck. I've looked at every other thread about DDMS problems and tried everything and it doesn't make much sense to me.
If you're rooted, you can get an app like ShootMe from the Market. It's free.
God luck.

Hmm...I'll look into it more. Sucks that you need to do all this for a freakin' screenshot. Don't know what Google was thinking when it came to this.
What phone did you own before the fascinate?
Figured it out. Not really but yea. I ... I'm not sure what I did but it's working now lol

It is possible, and I have successfully done it. It is not very useful though. But we are not always interested in usefulness, now are we?
Anyway, google "Desire HD Linux" and I believe it is one of the first, if not the first, links. Similar method geared toward the Desire HD, which is almost identical to our device internally. It works.
Question, but isn't that just VNC?

i'm pretty sure vnc just lets you view your computer at home, or view your screen when you're away.
Do you even know why you would want Ubuntu? Is it for the GUI, our for a better bash shell?
If you look around (I accidentally found this only a week ago) you can find Debian images for the android that they have had out since the G1. And they work on the MT4G.

now the real shocker would be if we could put windows mobile on our mt4g or dual boot either 2 android roms or windows mobile and android.

Yes, it uses VNC. It is used since there are no video drivers available for Linux on this platform, which is difficult due to the lack of code/documentation from Qualcomm. Ubuntu is actually running on the phone's hardware through a chroot shell, and VNC connects to the local host via a socket connection to provide the display. Just a way for the display to be displayed, if you will.
